What goes up the hill, will come down (RIP Gellert)

Guided by Odea, I got to see the Buda part of Budapest. The first part is physically a bit challenging as we climbed a few staircases to reach the Matthias church. Odea spoke of the significance of certain buildings, bridges and a hill with regards to their namesake, e.g. Gellert hill is named after the priest who became a martyr after being thrown of the hill in a barrel. Got to learn about how Hungarians treated some historical scars to buildings and artwork, e.g. the rebirth of the liberty statue after 3 days under a white veil with holes for her eyes. Odea also thought us a few Hungarian words. Make sure to visit a toilet before attending the tour, though. We didn't pass any on the route. Potable water taps are present if you pay enough attention to your surroundings. PS Should you be lucky to get her as a guide, ask her for her recommended chimney cake shop. She'll give you the address and if all works out, you'll get a discount from the owner.

Fantastic Insight into Hungarian History.

Balocoz was an excellent guide and was very good humoured. He provided lots of historical information in a fun way. Although it was a hot day he made several stops in the shade to provide information and let us catch our breath. The Castle district is lovely and well worth the effort.

Buda walking tour

Balasz was our guide for the Buda tour, this guy doesn't need a mic and is super funny, very entertaining and informative tour; HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Great tour with Sophia who was a great guide with lots of interesting info. Takes in lots of the main sites in Buda. Also did the Pest tour with Sophia in the morning.

Excellent tour

We really enjoyed our time with Boulash - he gives a very entertaining and informative tour of a very interesting part of Budapest! Met some nice people on the tour, as well. (We also recommend this company’s Pest Tour, which we did yesterday).

Great tour short explanations

Be ready to walk and try to stay close to the guide as much as possible to hear everything. Wear sunscreen too it’s around 2h walking/stabnding under the sun

Great guide on the tour.

The tour was good although I had a medical incident. I passed out near the end of the tour, bent my glasses and gave myself a black eye. I don’t drink, so it must have been from low blood pressure and lack of food and a cold. Sophia was great and called an ambulance. Several people came over to check me out. Since it wasn’t an emergency we waited for a while and then left. I am sorry the group missed the end, but we were almost done. We took some great pictures. Thanks to everyone.

Amazing tour!

Absolutely fantastic tour for Buda side

One of the best tours I’ve done if not the best. Boulas was so knowledgeable, his English was great, the tour had a good flow. He answered tons of questions and just felt like I learned a ton.

Well worth the effort - fantastic guide

LOTS OF DISTANCE AND STEPS!!! (Maybe don’t do this one after a 1 am start to your travelling day, bring water and stand in the shade where you can). Fantastic, knowledgable and informative guide! Really enjoyable and amazing historical knowledge. Really worthwhile.

Simply outstanding

This was our second tour of the day. Later in the afternoon we had another tour with Judit who took us on the Castle Walk tour“ and that was equally as good. She also had fantastic knowledge of her city and delivered her explanations of the Castle area with lovely refreshing passion. Judit is 5 out of 5. Incredible walking tour of castle district.

Balázs gave us an amazing tour of the castle district. He was very knowledgeable about the stories and traditions of Hungary from the 9th century to the present day. Would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Budapest!

Brilliant tour, so much to see and our guide was so knowledgeable, gave some very practical tips for our stay & made the tour a great experience all round. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of the Buda castle district.

Worth doing it.

Our guide informed us very well and gave us enough time for pictures. She was super friendly. I would recommend to do. It takes around 2 hours.

Buda tour

We had a very informational tour on the Buda side with Balzs. He has a very loud voice so even with many in the group, you could hear all he shared. He knows his history and made a few jokes along the way

Joined Andy’s afternoon walking tour. He was funny and engaging. At the end, he gave us local recommendations (restaurants, bars, etc). PS: Be prepared to go uphil and climb some stairs.

Budapest castle free walking tour.

We enjoyed the general Budapest walking tour so decided to also join the castle tour. Boulash was a great guide. He was knowledgable and friendly in his delivery. After 4 days of walking around Budapest our legs were aching but this tour is definitely worth it.

Just do it!

Tour was amazing! Did the Pest side in the morning and Buda in the afternoon - both with Balázs. He had the gift of being entertaining while being highly informative. Also highly knowledgeable with any questions. Can't recommend enough.

Expected more

I felt a bit let down by the tour experience with Charlotte. Her approach to storytelling seemed overly focused on politics, and I found myself wishing for more engaging, light-hearted moments. Compared to other guides from the same company, her presentation fell short. Additionally, I noticed several people leaving during the tour. It's worth noting that the uphill walk required a decent level of fitness, which might be challenging for those who aren't in the best shape.

The best city tours we have experienced in our travels

These tours are not to be missed! The tour was really informative and showed the main sights that we wanted to see. The views were spectacular and plenty of opportunities for great photos. Rita the tour guide was very knowledgeable and very friendly. One word of advice, Rita needs to talk slower as sometimes I missed what she was saying .

A must have experience

An amazing and must visit experience to try if you are in Budapest. Our host Rita is amazing- full of useful information and lively conversation.

The essential Buda

Our guide Edith was enthusiastic and informative. Also easy to hear and understand. Highly recommend this tour. Be prepared to walk up Buda hill, and plan to return to the cathedral right after to see the inside.

The beautiful castle district

We thoroughly enjoyed our informative tour of the castle district. There is so much to see in this area and the tour guide shares so much great information. The tour description said that you go into Matthias church and spend 15 minutes in Fisherman's Bastion. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. Had I known we would have arranged more time prior to the tour to do this. That being said, the tour is truly wonderful. Just plan accordingly.

Highly recommended

The tour was informative and the 1.5 hours flew away very quickly. The history of the place and the art of story telling was very captivating. Charlotte had a nice sense of humor, was open to questions and gave some good inside tips about the local cuisine.

Brillaint walking tour to learn about history of Buda side

This 5-star review is for our brilliant guide, Charlotte. She toured us to many historical sites on the Buda side and explained how Budapest was influenced by different cultures in several historical periods. It was freezing in early January, so she used a strategy that she stopped and talked about Budapest's history for a few minutes and then we moved again to warm up a bit. Also she gave us a surprise by bringing us to a warm indoor site, otherwise I would become a snowman! She had lots of interactions with visitors and her talk was so interesting that I can still remember some of the content clearly. Highly recommend this free walking tour to Budapest visitors.
