Great walking tour!

Great tour of Basel! I learned so much and saw so many parts of Basel. I’m very glad I went on this tour and would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Basel for the first time.

Multi language tour annoying

There were 19 of us on the tour. 17 English speaking and two German speaking. Our guide did a great job switching from one language to the other trying to maintain the interest in the stories he had of old town Basle. Sadly for us it just didn't work. You essentially walk for 2 hours and get one hours dialogue. Or on our particular tour, about 50 mins. To be fair the dual language delivery was clearly highlighted at the point of booking. We genuinely didn't think it would bother us. But it did. You were just getting into a story and then the atmosphere was lost as he launched into the same story in German. After 80 mins we gave up. I've no idea the thinking behind dual language tours. But with such a large group of English speaking guests why not just run that group separately? We've done lots of such tours throughout the world and this was the first one we've just walked away from. It might also have been the rain but when we left only 7 people were left of the 19. Again, no fault of the guide.

Just one language please

Worth it!

Nadia, our tour guide, is very passionate about what she does! She was very knowledgeable and covered many landmarks with engaging stories. The giveaways were a great touch! I definitely recommend this tour, especially if you are short on time!

Great Tour of Basel

Great walking tour of Basel. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had a good sense of humor. Just the right length. Any longer and it would have been too long.

The guide was friendly and professional and the tour itself was informative. I would recommend this tour to anybody visiting the city for the first time.

The tour was excellent! I do not remember the tour guide's (a gentleman) name but he was excellent. learned so much about the history of Basel.

Great guided tour of Basel

Nadia is an excellent tour guide - engaging, humorous, thorough, covering different aspects of the city’s history, culture and social life. Highly recommend! The only downside is the time wasted while waiting for the commentary in the second language to finish but the tour page is transparent about its bilingual nature, so I knew what I signed up for. Would have been ideal to split it into two groups, but understand that it is trickier for the organisers. At least can use the time for taking pictures and admiring the views.

Claudia did a terrific job juggling with American visitors and German at same time. Very interesting stories about the area!!

Nice guide, but not with 2 languages

Nice guide and informative but we lost half the tour because the guide talked in German to only 3 people while the rest of us just stood there. Pls separate the groups in the future

Perfect tour of Basel

We were looking for a short complete tour of Basel and we were not disappointed. Our guide had a wonderful personality and was very knowledgeable.

Good Tour

Overall nice. Though because it was bilingual it took longer. I wish they had English and German separately. That would be more enjoyable. This felt more interrupted since the guide had to do in two languages. But we enjoyed and will surely recommend. Thanks

Grasp the City Walking

Tour was fun! Our tour guide was a local who grew up in Basel and had lots of fun stories to share about the city. It’s a fairly small place, so the walking tour helped us digest a lot of what the city had to offer.

Did not deliver

We booked a walking tour of Basel pre Viking trip up the Rhine in English. A few of the participants spoke no English so the guide would describe a point of interest in German then again in English . He spent a lot more time in German then a shorter version in English it was painful for the other 10 people who had to just stand there not understanding German. The guide tried his best and starting losing his voice. We only saw half the town and it was a lot of waisted time just standing around. We could have joined a free tour from our Viking ship but already paid from Viator and it was too late to cancel and we would have lost our money. Very disappointed as we have had only great experiences with Viator on our vacation.

Old town tour - fantastic as always

This was my third tour as I book it every time I have visitors to Basel. Sadly my visitors didn’t make it here in time, but I enjoyed the tour anyway, and even after so many times, I always learn something new and fascinating . I thoroughly recommend. Stephanie was my tour guide (my second time with Stephanie) and she was fantastic. Her enthusiasm and love for her home town is contagious. I understand why she has never wanted to leave Basel.

Best 2 hours in Basel!

Sabine, the guide, is a local and intensely passionate about Basel, she's knowledgeable and entertaining, her background and personality ensured the 2 hours were informative and engaging, highly recommend! Time spent was a sheer delight!

Informative, beautiful historic walking tour.

George was very informative and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about Basel and seeing the various sites. He even helped me find a suitcase to purchase after.

Worthwhile Tour!

Interesting and worthwhile overall, a little heavy on church history and reformation information/transformation for us.

Basel is a Gem

George gave an exhaustive and very interesting account of the Gems of Basel. A lovely short tour. One of the best ways to discover a city.

Walking tour: Basel

Very informative tour, definitely recommend. We were visiting Basel as part of a group for a day trip and found the tour to be an excellent way to view the city. The guide Caroline was knowledgeable and provided lots of interesting anecdotes about Basel.

Very informative and well-paced

Very informative tour with Frances, walking through the streets of Basel’s Old Town. Our favourite was the panaromic view of the Rhine from the cathedral, as well as the historical tidbits from our guide.

Amazing!

The tour was amazing! Everything very organized and enogh information for a two hours tour in the city! Really recommend i!

A Nice Walking Tour

The tour director was very good, knowledgeable and personable. The only caveat I would have for those interested in this tour is that the director first speaks and explains the sites in German then switches to English to those of us English speakers. Due to this fact it means the tour is probably twice as long as it would be if only one language is spoken and the tour is just is 2 hours long. Just something to consider.

Disappointed because we were not able to do the tour.

We were not able to go on this tour because there was a protest in Basel at the time of this walk and the trams stopped running. The 4 of us had to walk and arrived at the meeting point at Tinguely Fountain late. The protest was happening at the Fountain. We texted and tried to call the tour operator, but got no response. We don't know if they were able to do the tour or not. It was very disappointing. We would appreciate being reimbursed for this. Beverly

BE AWARE

Let me be clear, this is not a criticism of our guide, Susanna. She did the best she could under cheap circumstances and was Obviously well versed on her subject We were a group of 19, mostly couples with a few singles. We were told to stay close to the guide in order to hear the commentary. Yeah, sure with 19 people easier said than done. It was a waste of 2 hours. I have been on many walking tours and the guides always used a quietVox or similar system. Not only can you actually hear the commentary, you can talk photos without missing a beat. This company should either supply them or at least offer for a small additional fee. It should be illegal to run such tours without them , at least for more than 10 people. Extremely disappointed and will not be booking more for the rest of our Swiss holiday

The tour guide could use a speaking device

It was a nice tour, but difficult to hear the tour guide. Also, I would have preferred if they gave the tour solely in one language.

Delightful tour.

Despite the rain Tomas Flack made the tour a success. Very friendly and knowledgable person. I recommend the tour.

Walking tour...Isabella was AMAZING! Basel is beautiful!

Isabella was an AMAZING tour guide and as we didn't realize that this was a walking tour. Also, how many cobblestones and hills/stairs there were. Lovely town, great tour. Isabella was great in pointing out where I had some time to take a rest during the tour (recovering from broken leg).

It was very nice and interesting to Walk along Basel with you. I really offer it to People who wants to know more about it. Maybe the traffic Was bit too loud, for example by Start.

Basel Walking Tour

Thomas was great. His local knowledge is exceptional with a large photo album to further illustrate his talking points. He’s lived in Basel for over 30 years and is fluent in both English and German. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone coming into Basel.

Informative tour

Really enjoyed learning about Basel on this walking tour. Good introduction to all the important sites and history. Guide was very knowledgable and easy to communicate with.

Tour of Old Basel

Sabine was an excellent tour guide in Basel. She not only told us the history of the city, but showed us pictures to help us understand. Sabine also added some personal anecdotes which made her presentation more personal. We would highly recommend this tour.

Don’t miss this one

Our Swedish guide was great. His knowledge and sense of humor mixed perfectly. The tour itself was perfect at 2 hours. You got a taste of the cities history in both the architecture and the people who lived there during different periods. We were in town on a day trip, and this tour was perfect.

The best way to learn Bazel

Susan, if I'm not wrong with her nane, was an excellent guide for the tour. We were stroling with her through beautiful Bazel, heard interesting stories and trully learned some of the sicrets of the city. Most reccomanded.

Informative

We had a lovely guide who spoke in English and German(quick speaker). Lots of interesting facts about old Basel. History to current. Lovely two hour manageable walk, ending with a delicious biscuit from a local shop.

Just ok

Tour was in German and English which made it a bit longer. I saw most of the places we went the day before just wandering the city and we didn’t visit too many places. Guide was really nice and did learn some history. A lot of walking uphill as well as downhill. I would say this tour was just ok. Would probably book a different one next time.

Good feeling for Basel history

A nice tour of Basel and got a feeling of the history of the town and the character of the streets and and landmarks; our guide was very engaging and helped get the colour and feel for what it was like and where everything was. Would have liked a toilet stop is only thing to add as two hours is quite long!

Great tour with Caroline. Very comprehensive & interesting. History of Basil & surrounding area. Both English & German. An easy walk.

A great place to visit if you can afford it!

A place you instantly felt at ease . Full of people just enjoying life at cafes , swimming in the river , sightseeing and for those who like it a shopping experience. Little traffic, no litter, no anti social behaviour. I could live there!

Bilingual tour was boring….

Tour guide was pleasant but not very informative. We didn’t realize we signed up for a German/English tour. So it took away time for information when she translated each sentence into German. English wasn’t her first language, so there were times she had a problem coming up with the correct word.

David was both interesting and informative. He had a large group and managed to keep everyone’s attention and answered all questions!

Informative and fun tour!

Emma did a wonderful job walking us through a variety of historical sites throughout Basel's Old Town and explaining their significance. She provided great insight into the city of Basel, both past and present, and we greatly enjoyed our tour!

Informative and interesting tour of Old Town Basel.

George did a great job on this walking tour. He was interesting and informative. Not a lot of pizzazz but we got a good feel for the Old Town of Basel and its history. There was some step and hill climbing but he took it at a proper pace. The two or so hours went by quickly.

The guide did a fabulous job,! She was able to converse freely between speaking English and German. It was impressive and not boring.

Very good tour - well worth the time

Great tour - the guide was friendly and knowledgeable. He came prepared with illustrations for an orientation at the start of the tour and had images along the way. The stops were interesting and informative. He even stopped at a bakeshop at the end of the tour and offered treats to all that attended. Glad we booked this tour.

My tour around Old Town of Basel

Excellent tour guide Gabriella took us around the Old Town and told us interesting information about Basel. She had a folder with pictures to match the stories. Pace was just right and the group of twelve was enough. Two hours soon passed and the extra little nuggets she told us were great. Especially enjoyed the last surprise.

Good quick tour!

Great tour perfect time length of 2 hrs. Tour guide was very informative and knowledgeable. Gave us information about things outside old Town history about Basel as well for our trip.
