Best Montserrat experience

Beating the crowds by arriving so early, hearing the monk sings in the church with a handful of people was amazing. Albert was a great guide, took us on a little hike to show us a great view of Montserrat. We bit the crowd going up on the funicular where we enjoyed our free time and explore. The boy choir was amazing too. The little glass of local white wine at the end was very very welcome and delicious. Thank you Albert!

Best day trip ever?

Arriving early and exploring the chuch and Black Madonna in silence was very moving. Men's choir and later the boy's choir was excellent (but crowded). Tour was informative but plenty of time to hike and wander!

A perfect early morning tour!!

This trip was incredible from start to finish. Albert our guide was so thoughtful! And he had the trip so well planned from a text message the night before to coordinate pick up and reading material. We got to Monserrat HOURS before any other tourists and had plenty of time to see Abbey, the black Madonna and small hike where we saw cabra! We then had plenty of time to explore on our own where we took the funicular to the top of the mountain and walked down. Albert knew all the 'ins and outs' and told us to get on the funicular first and made sure we knew where we were going! We then saw the museum and took the cogwheel train down the mountain where Albert met us with the van. This tour format allows for a lot of flexibility which we appreciated. Albert also did a beautiful job providing both english and spanish translations for us and the other women on the tour. Thank you, Albert!

Peaceful!

Albert is a wonderful guide! He was very organized and communicates plans so we know what’s going on (2 days before the tour, he messaged to confirm pick up times and location and gave detailed timing of what the day would look like and patiently answered all of my questions!). It was a wonderful experience to get to Montesserat so early before the crowds arrived. I would definitely do this tour with Albert again if in Barcelona because it was my favorite tour. Thank you so much Albert!

Beautiful morning at Montserrat

The tour operator started at 6:00 am. We beat the crowds and had plenty of time to see all the highlights. Small group great way to go.!

Amazing views and perfect timing

Amazing views, perfect times to visit and the perfect paced visit for us, would definitely recommend. Albert was brilliant!

The best way to see Montserrat- daybreak!!

The best part is getting here FIRST before the other tourists. Eight of us had the whole place to ourselves for about a hour and a half! We saw the monks sing st 7:30 and the first to see the black Madonna that day. First on the funicular too. Explored the trails and thr great views. The 1:00 boys choir performance was so beautiful. Albert, our guide, picked us up at our hotel along with 6 others ( nice to be in a small group) He did a great job explaining what we were seeing and making recommendations while on the mountain. We finished the tour with some delicious wine and cheese that Albert provided while enjoying the beautiful views

Once in a lifetime experience!

Beautiful and scenic! Getting there early, as is the case with this tour, is a must to enjoy the monks' service in the morning and avoiding crowds. Getting tickets for the Boys Choir was also worth it!

10/10 MUST do this early morning tour!

Albert was so great! Full of jokes and smiles. He was great with my 11 year old. So knowledgeable about the history of Monserrat. We got up there early so there was no one else— THIS IS A MUST. By 11am the place was packed! I’m so glad we chose a tour that arrived first thing and beat the crowds. This meant better pictures, quiet, and free admission to mass (if you’re interested). We visited the museum, took the funicular (must do), and Albert offered to wait in line and buy our tickets so we could have lunch! 10/10 HIGHLY recommend this tour. PS: I think some travelers don’t understand you’re supposed to tip your tour guide- please don’t be rude and forget to do this. This is how people like Albert make a living. One couple was dropped off at their hotel, said thank you, and just left! I was shocked and disappointed. Okay, rant over! :)

Wonderful

The most memorable part of tour was being at Monserrat before anyone else. It was quiet and peaceful. To be able to see black Madonna on such a personal basis. Being picked up at our hotel meant a lot also.

Incredible intimate tour of Montserrat

Now I understand why Albert does this tour in the early morning. In the morning you get to experience the wonder of the place with very few people (8 people on our tour plus a few people on their own) property was such a different experience as more people arrived. This tour is also great for those who want to do a little hiking- we were the first ones up the funicular and had the mountain basically to ourselves. Our guide, Albert, was very informative and passionate about Montserrat. He even gave bits of Barcelona and Catalunya history as we drove. The tour is the perfect amount of time. Listen to the monks, then visit the cathedral and the black Madonna, then the audiovisual tour, then a short hike with Albert, then first ones up the funicular for hiking. There was still time for the museum (normally you stay to listen to the boys choir but they were not singing our day). Albert provided wine, cheese and crackers at the end which is a nice touch. Highly recommend this tour!

Definitely choose this tour if you want to experience the best of Montserrat

This tour with Albert is the best way to experience Montserrat. We had a wonderful morning enjoying a variety of activities. We had plenty of time to see everything including the Black Madonna, the monks singing, the museum, the funicular and views from various points. We unfortunately didn't get to see the boys choir because they were away on tour but Albert let us know this in advance. Albert was a helpful and considerate guide who provided excellent communication both before and during the tour. We couldn't speak highly enough of the way the tour was planned and executed.

A fantastic day in Monsteratt

It was an amazing day with Albert. We left early in the morning but well worth it. We were able to hear the monks sing and later the boys choir. Albert was very clear with instructions, great views and other suggested activities like the museum, funicular. Even with a thunderstorm Albert was able to provide wine, cheese and biscuits at the end. Loved every minute.

Great day perfect timing to go early.

So great to there so early in the morning before the bus loads of tourists. I was confused at first but it all worked out perfectly and very organised. A wine and cheese at the end was a bonus. Very well worth it to beat the crowds. Finicular is a must.

Wonderful magical trip that was very well organized

Montserrat was amazing and the trip was perfect. We arrived early brother very large crowds and it was magical to have this space to ourselves. The Black Madonna was so special and we were able to see it without crowds or any feeling of being rushed. The hike to the top of Magdalena Peak was breathtaking. Then to top it all off was listening to the boys choir. We would definitely do it all again. Very well organized and we didn’t have to worry about anything.

It was a great once in a lifetime visit.

We really enjoyed hiking to the top of the mountain after riding the funicular to the upper most drop off. The ruins and trail, along with the hermitage were very interesting! The pastries at the supermarket were delicious! The painting of Mary and Joseph fleeing to Egypt with the young Jesus Christ is beautiful!!! It’s in a side chapel.

You have to go in the morning.

Albert was excellent at communicating with us from the time to booking until pickup. The morning started a bit late with some customers before us being tardy….folks plain and simple be on time for your pickup. Once we got going it was a nice drive up to the mountain. The sun rise on the mountain is amazing as you approach. The highlight of course was our early arrival. Picture being at the Basilica pretty much by yourself. That is the draw of this tour. A listen to the monks morning service and then straight to the Black Madonna no line first ones in and plenty of time to admire the beautiful relic and the back areas of the chapel without the mass of people that were soon to come. Then it was on to the short video then up local area around the funicular waiting for it to open. At 10am up we went. It was fun to be high above the monastery and watch the masses come in. By 1100 the place was packed and it was supposedly a light day. Since we had to be back down by 1300 to see the boys choir we did a couple of 30 minute hikes in each direction went on the down car and hiked quickly to the cave and back (1 hour round trip). The boys choir was amazing and then it was time for wine at Monserrat and then back to Barcelona. Albert was a great guide with a lot of knowledge and guided when he needed to but if you wanted to roam we could do that also.

Experiencing Montserrat in the early morning is the best

The best thing about this tour is that we were picked up right in front of our condo, and that we were able to get in to Montserrat before the other tourists. The place is really so different when you have very few people walking around. It felt more holy and peaceful, almost mystical. Albert as a tour guide is so-so because he has difficulty speaking the English language. He was very nice though. He got us to and from Montserrat safely, which I appreciated because the road winding up a mountain was a bit stressful. He got me and my husband tickets for the mass, which had initially run out of tickets, which I appreciated. He also gave a nice little picnic of wine and some cookies after the tour, and he also gave us some religious souvenirs. He is very nice, but it would be beneficial if he could give more information to tourists. All in all, this trip was worth it, and I would recommend it to other people visiting Montserrat.

Great day out in Montserrat in the fog !!!!

From being picked up to being dropped off back to our hotel in the 8 seater minibus was both magical and spiritual. Montserrat was so worth the trip to listen to the monks and young boys choir singing. The walk from the funicular to Sant Joan was in the fog so this added to the ambiance of the trip as the path has quite sheer edges with a long drop !!!! Brilliant day out with a very knowledgeable guide ‘Albert’ .

Great Tour!

What a great tour. Had an awesome time with Albert. He was very knowledgeable and funny. We had a lot of free time to explore and go to museum and listen to the Boys Choir. Before we left Montserrat, he gave us a glass a wine with biscotti. Montserrat is a beautiful and serene place. The tour is early, but you get there before the crowd. We were able to see the Monks singing and the Black Madonna ( without waiting in a long line). Do not hesitate to book with Albert.

The trip offers the best time of the day to visit Montserrat. Montserrat at 7:30 am is a different place from that at 11:30 am.

Monsaratt during quiet peaceful time

Hard to pick one. While we didn’t take the funicular there were great opportunities to experience the splendor of Monserrat. Being “ first in line” to listen to morning singing of the monks then without crowds to venerate the black madonna was both personal and spiritual. The attention paid by Albert was exceptional — pick up at the hotel, explanations along the way, recommendations to spend our time at Monserrat, and the kindness of a small gift at the end our tour make this tour a must while visiting Barcelona.

An amazing trip

A wonderful trip to Montserrat with Albert. We had time enough to do everything we wanted to do and seeing the Black Madonna without waiting was a real miracle ! We could see the monks singing and the boys choir. We had time to hike in the mountain. Albert speaks english and also french. If we come back to Barcelona, we will book again this trip. Muches Gracias Albert !

Monserrat at daybreak

Seeing daybreak over Monserrat, the Black Madonna and the Abbey without the crowds was an amazing experience. We got to hear the Monks sing first thing and then the children’s choir at 1pm. In between we had lots of time to go up the mountain and walk around and also to visit the museum. Absolutely wonderful

My family spent Easter Sunday At Monserrat. It was pure magic . Our guide was amazing and the mass was beautiful. We also had wine and snacks which was a nice touch . I’d love to visit again 😊! It’s worth the trip. USA

Great Hosts allow for early arrival & good small group tour of Monserrat

Hosts were both great and accommodating and helpfull. Like the small group size. Host Offered early pick up to see Monks singing prior to 8AM. Trip got you up there early enough not only to see the Black Madonna above the alter in the Basilica but to pass by her up close once the Abby was open. The early arrival also allowed for funicular ride up men and peaceful walk up on trails and winding walk down BEFORE the crowds. Recommend this trip as hosts make it easy and pleasant!

Wonderful

What a fantastic tour. We saw the monks sing, toured up the mountain, did a few trails and had time to see the choir boys sing while still making it to the art museum AND getting some souvenirs. This tour is hands down the best bang for your buck, perfect amount of time spend on the tour to see it all and not be rushed. Albert was very knowledgeable and did a great job explaining everything even in the car leading up to the mountains. 10/10 would recommend. Unless you’re afraid of heights, then you should communicate that lol!!!

Despite the snowy weather on a Sunday morning, Albert took us on a tour of the Abbey, the museum, and I had a great time.

Highly recommended this tour, you start early in the morning you the first one to enter Montserrat. Not that many of people easy to get to the Black and plenty of time to walk around.

A must see when you visit Barcelona

The views from Montserrat were amazing! Our guide, Albert, was friendly, helpful and insightful. He brought the history of the monastery alive with his knowledge and stories. He was very personable and made the visit enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour next time you visit Barcelona.

We really were first and lots of free time

Fantastic option to see Montserrat! We really were the first tourists there and it was great beating the crowds to get basically private views of the Black Madonna and the basilica. Lots of free time to explore all the sights including the museum and some hiking. Excellent guide, great communication in advance, very knowledgeable about Barcelona and Montserrat, organised for us to see the boys choir and even did the hike with me. Hotel pick up was an extra convenience too! Would definitely recommend this tour for anyone planning to visit Montserrat.

Amazing view from Monserrat mountain top & abbey. I’m afraid of heights but the trip was truly worth it. And we got to hear the monks sign. Definitely recommend this tour.

Montserrat different

A very good experience, we went to Montserrat when there are almost no people, you can see everything very well and then you see all the people going, you have to get up a little early, but it is very worth it to be able to see Montserrat like this, and the guide is very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended.

Unique experience!

We took this option to be able to contemplate, in our case, the sunrise in Montserrat completely alone and without the crowds of people. The boy was always very attentive to us. 100% recommended. To repeat!
