2-Day Angkor Wat Tour from Bangkok

Amazing and unforgettable experience!

We enjoyed this excursion to Angkor Wat tremendously and learned so much about Cambodia and Angkor Wat from our tour guide, Mr. Bun Rong and driver, Mr. Heng. They made a great team! We were picked up in the morning in a nice air-conditioned van. We stopped and had a wonderful local breakfast before reaching the Cambodian border. Upon reaching the Cambodian border, we were met with a gentleman that helped us navigate through customs. He helped fill out the paperwork for us to take in and we had already applied for our visa online so everything went smoothly and quickly. Once we reached the Cambodian side, we were met with our Cambodian driver, Mr Heng who was amazing. He stayed with us the rest of the trip until we crossed into the Thailand side again. It was neat driving through the rice fields on the way to the hotel. You do not get to see this if you fly into Siem Reap. We checked into our hotel and had a few hours to rest or get a massage like we did. We were then met by our Cambodian tour guide in the lobby and our driver to take us to the boat to visit the floating village. We really enjoyed it. We took a Tuk Tuk into town to eat at a restaurant that the hotel recommended, and it was great! The next day we paid a few dollars extra to be at Angkor Wat for sunrise to get the best pictures. It was so hot 44°C during our tour, but Mr. Bun Rong made sure we stayed in the shade. He was so extremely kind, knowledgeable, and funny! He made the entire tour as we would not have learned as much if we had done it by ourselves! He also took several great pictures of our family. We made it back across the border in Thailand and back to Bangkok by 8:00 PM. Thank you so much for this amazing and unforgettable experience!

Perfect!

The whole experience was perfect - from ordering the trip, being picked up at our housing in Bangkok to being driven back to our door-step. And also getting help with forgotten belongings afterwards. Two days packed of highly memorable experiences, without being too exhausting or challenging. The oldest one in our company is 80 years old and not in too good shape. Our guide in Angkor Wat was just fantastic! He shared interesting stories and was most helpful when the oldest one needed extra service due to the heat. We highly reccomend to see Angkor Wat at sunrise - it was an experience for life.

worth the extra cost

Although this trip was rather expensive, it was worth being walked through the checkpoints and seeing everything with a private guide which saved a great deal of time. The tour guide was on point the entire trip!

Angkor Wat

The ride to Siem Reap was the downfall of this trip, our driver in Thailand did not speak English, he dropped us at the border obviously with no explanation. The crossing actually went well, but unnerving. On the Cambodia side our driver also did not speak English. The hotel was amazing! The driver just drove off also no explanation. When we came down stairs to our surprise the drive and our tour guide where in the lobby. Our guide Mr T. Was excellent he obviously spoke English and we proceeded to the floating village and then walk thru downtown area. Because we didn’t expect to actually have English speaking guide when we finally got to our room, we decided to book a flight back to Bangkok after the tour of Angkor Wat. When we finally met Mr T. He was very disappointed that he could not provide the whole tour., but kindly after our tour gave us a ride to the airport. I would recommend flying into the brand new airport, use Viator for the guide once in Siem Reap. Thank you again to Mr T.

Well worth the investment of time

Amazing sights and a great way to check another off your bucket list. The guides and accommodations were excellent. A little more advanced instruction on what to expect for the border crossing would have been nice, but it was quickly evident how it would go. The sites visited are an excellent bite for such a short trip, but I will go for longer next time.

Perfectly orginized tour

Perfectly orginized tour .They pick up us from the hotel,where the driver waited 30min before the time for start of the tour. Then with private van he bring us to the border. We stayed at company office for letting all other from the group to come . Then proceed by walking through the border.If you have visa for Cambodia already issued ,no need to pay for VIP escort to pass by.Then after, our guide waited us and again with private van bring us to the hotel in Siam Reap. We visited amazing floating village in the afternoon with amazing sunset views.On next day we had again splendid time wnile visiting 3 temples. Our guide was young ,but full of knowledge. We do recomend this tour .

An unforgettable, excellent experience

Transport to the border with Mr. Aum was smooth - Comms including photos of who we were looking to find etc. via WhatsApp was seamless. Border crossing meant being passed to someone to guide us where to go by foot but of course they couldn't come with us - we took the offer to not queue for the visa as it was clearly going to take a while and it was hot plus we had all our baggage etc., $7 well spent. We just waited in a side room with others whilst the guide took a different route (skipped the queue) and was back with us in minutes. Driver on Cambodia side was smooth and we met the guide for the tour (name sounds like "Long") at the (VERY nice) hotel. Guide was excellent, knowledgeable and flexible. Given a lot of detail about transport because you shouldn't be put off by other things you may have read. It's different to the way things might be at home, but nothing to complain about... Things ARE different. They should be. Otherwise why leave home?! Floating village tour was excellent. Again I'd read a lot about how exploitative it is but there was no evidence of that at all. There are no crocodiles in the lake, no mistreated bats or snakes in cages at the village, no girls sent out to the boat in a paddle washtub begging. No begging at all. There WERE crocodiles at the village in a pit - but in a kind of farm... They looked well, were well kept etc. they are used as WE might use farmed animals - but they obviously couldn't keep cows and sheep on a floating village! They are eaten, with skin used and products available to admire or buy. We asked to stay and watch the sunset and were allowed to do so. Excellent. Watching traditional net fishermen on the trip back was a bonus. The guide gave us a geography and history lesson explaining everything we saw. We were taken into Siem Reap, took the guide's advice on where and what to eat for traditional Cambodian fayre and walked a while before heading back to the hotel by tuk tuk (different to the Thai variant, this was an actual motorbike towing the carriage!). We asked if we could get to the temples early morning to watch the sunrise and again everything was flexible enough to allow that. We then took time to fully explore Angkor Wat with excellent guidance, a free photographer in the guide who knew all the best spots and the kindest group of resident temple guides to help us along the way before being taken back to the hotel for a great breakfast then returned again to the temples for Ta Prohm (tomb raider temple) and Bayon (faces everywhere!). All with the benefits already mentioned of our excellent guide and driver. Travel back was as before. Just go with it. Trust the people and jet then do their jobs - you'll have an unforgettable experience and hundreds of photographs!

A Memorable Glimpse into Cambodia: Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, and Silk

Ride from Hell

The driver from Bangkok to the border almost got into 4 separate accidents, from fiddling with his second phone, this segment took 6 hours. Border assistant, driver and guide on Cambodian side of the border were excellent. The company needs to give a more detailed explanation of the journey to and from Angor Wat. The Angor Complex is well worth seeing, so was the floating fishing village. Accommodations were 5 star. Driver from border back to Bangkok was also an excellent driver and journey only took 4 hours.

Great experience, breath-taking monuments, very friendly people

We had a wonderful time visiting Cambodia. Thanks to our caring and extremely friendly guide Sothy. We saw some of the most beautiful sites in the country = Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Prohm. And we never forget this experience. Special thanks to Sothy for showing us the Pub Street! The best food in Asia - no doubt!

2 day tour to Cambodia, Angkor Wat

This was a perfectly organized tour, every pick up was on time, everybody was so friendly. Our guide in Cambodia, Bunrong, gave us so much information about the history of the temples we visited, in perfect English. This was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it.

Siem Reap is amazing!

Long trip by van in Thailand and Cambodia, but it was definitely worth it! The transfer at the border was smooth, DEFINITELY pay $10 for the VIP skip the line at the border! Tonle Sap lake and the floating village was great. The Angkor Wat temple complex was amazing! Our guide Vithyea was fantastic! Don't miss this tour!

Stunning temples

It was a smooth and well organized journey from and to Bangkok. The boat tour was worth it to see the lake. The guided tour at Angkor Wat was stunning. The driver Pana drove very carefully and the guide Chhay was extremely knowledgable. This trip is highly recommended.

Great experience once in Cambodia

Our guide was incredible! He was so knowledgeable, and thoughtful in his narrative. He took extra care to share content at age-appropriate levels, and all while dealing with a sick passenger (me)! My one reservation is that the drive from Bangkok tp Siam Reap makes no sense--we ended up flying home. We felt like we wasted a day in the car, without seeing much more than highway.

Great tour long drive

Great tour and a good guide, but too long of a drive from Bangkok. Should have taken a flight. But once there, the hotel, the food suggestions, the hotel were excellent.

Angkor Wat is an absolute must-see-before-you-die location. The Angkor Wat Temple Complex is very well known, of course, and is the largest religious structure in the world. However, the descriptions do no justice to actually seeing Angkor Wat in person. Its grandeur and sheer expanse is breath-taking! Its history, architecture, scale and charm is second to none. The trip was very well organized by Viator who picked us up on time at our hotel, and after a roughly 3.5 hour troip to the Poi Pet border, we got through to the Cambodian side. (we had obtained eVisa's prior but I'm told you can get a Visa on the spot as well). Another 3 hour ride to Siem Ream - we were put up in a very nice 4-star hotel with attached restaurants and an excellent breakfast buffet. This is where we met out tour guide Soth Sothy. Soth ("Mr. T") proved to be a terrific guide, and was extremely knowledgable, and stayed with us for the rest of the trip. First evening was a tour of the floating village - which was very interesting. Day two was the star-studded day, with many hours at Angkor Wat. Do not miss the climb up to the top gallery and seeing both the view, as well as the 4 Buddha's facing each cardinal directions. The Hall of the 1000 Buddhas was quite remarkable, as the center stone in the hall is build to align perfectly with the magnetic north (easy to verify with the Compass App in an iPhone). All the way through we learnt a lot about the construction, timeline and history of strife for the site, as well as a wealth of information about the carvings and iconography in the temple. This was followed by a visit to the Angkor Thom Bayon Temple with the Lokeshvara Buddha towers- which is quite amazing as well, including the monkeys clambering the ruins. The last site was the famous Ta Prohm Temple, where Angelina Jolie shot scenes for "Tombraider" - quite amazing tos ee how the trees grew all around the temple ruins. The local restaurant scene is excellent - we ate at the Chanrey Tree restaurant for dinner Day 1 and loved the Haute Cambodian food, although street food is awesome as well - both in Cambodia and Thailand. Many places to shop for local artifacts - Cambodian Silk, Khmer sculptures - bronze and teak, as well as gemstones like sapphire and ruby. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. Only negatives I can think of are the heat, long ride and we wished we had more time as there is so much more to see and do. Next time: will do a longer trip to the region for sure. Guide, driver and associated staff were excellent as well. Strongly recommend the trip!

great experience. take 2-3 days if you have time

Very nice experience! long drive to Cambodia but it was worth it . Crossing the border was an experience but they got it all figured out and there is a guy on the Cambodian side who helped us with visas for extra 10$ per person and we did not have to wait in line … though it was a bit scary to hand our passports to a stranger( but they did show us his photo at the boarder from Thailand side) . Our Cambodian guid Sava was very attentive and helped to get to some additional activities for extra charge . We went to a local buffet with a concert ( both were very nice and only 16$ per person) . Also he arranged transportation for us after the tour on the first day and 30 min massage next day before we departed) . It was amazing massage and costed 5$! the tour itself was incredible. i wish we had time to get 2 or 3 nights in Cambodia. There is still so much to see )

Amazing temples!

A superb tour, especially on the Cambodian side of the tour. The temples are incredible and our guide and driver in Cambodia were fantastic. The Thailand side of the tour could do with a little more info on how you get to the border and the process of getting across the border.

Informative and Fun! Ask for “Bun”

Our tour guide Neng Bunrong was the difference maker for our tour. So knowledgeable and personable. He knew exactly how to avoid the crowds, took amazing pictures of us and told amazing stories. He was so easy to talk with and answered all of our questions. He gave us tips of places to eat, shops and things to see in Siem Reap. Learned a lot about daily life and the history of Cambodia beyond the temples. If you are taking a tour in Siem Reap, ask for Neng Bunrong (“Bun”)

A great tour from Thailand to Cambodia

Excellent tour and fantastic tour guide Chandara and drivers from the tour operator APTT. We really enjoyed the tour and learned a lot about Cambodia’s culture and history. In addition, the hotel we stayed in Siem Reap was very clean and very well decorated. The restaurant in the hotel provided wonderful food including great local dishes!

Tour from Thailand to Combodia

We had a great time during our trip to Cambodia. This trip was made great by our tour guide, Saba, and driver, Hey. Saba's approach to his guests was personalized and not boring, as a tour guide. The eighth wonder of the world, Ankor Wat, was the most memorable part of our trip. This trip is a great option for those who want to visit Cambodia.

BKK to Angkor Wat

Great trip from Bangkok to Angkor Wat. The summary written by the company on the web page is accurate. They will pick you up at your hotel in BKK at 6:30 am. Transport you in a nice van to the Thai-Cambodian Border. You will be escorted to the border and go through immigration and be met on the other side by another guide who will walk you to the van on the other side. From there it is a 2 hour ride to Siem Reap. We were dropped off at a nice hotel, allowed time to unpack and relax, and then we met our tour guide for a trip to the Floating Villages. Our guide, Long, was great. He was friendly, good English, knowledgeable about many facts, and just an overall nice guy. After watching the sunset on the lake we were given the option of exploring Pub Street in Siem Reap which we did. Long explained we could stay as long as we want and just flag down a Tuk Tuk and pay $2 for a ride back to the hotel. We walked around, did some window shopping, and had a nice dinner, and then a $2 Tuk Tuk ride back to the hotel. The next morning we had a good breakfast at the hotel, met Long at 8 am and went to Angkor Wat and several other temples. Long did a great job explaining things and answering our questions. We opted for a lunch in Siem Reap before we left and the van driver drove us to the border and we were escorted by a guide to immigration and then met by another guide on the Thai side to walk us back to the van meeting point and then driven back to BKK and dropped off at our hotel. A great 2 day and 1 night trip from BKK to Angkor Wat. Highly recommended.

Wonderful visit to Angkor Wat and other temples

We greatly enjoyed this tour, it was an excellent and efficient option to visit the most famous temple site in Cambodia when we only had a couple of days (the rest of our trip was spent in Laos and Thailand). Chhay, our guide, provided fantastic historical insights to add context to our visit. He was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable, and we are very happy with the welcoming experience that he provided. He took pictures of us on his phone and sent them to us, and through a mishap with the app on my husband's phone, we realized the following day that pictures got deleted. We messaged Chhay, and he re-sent those pictures to us right away, which was so kind of him. Our hotel was Tara Angkor - a 4-star hotel, which, quite frankly, was so much nicer than our (supposedly) 4-star hotel in Bangkok! (haha) Spacious room, comfortable bed, awesome breakfast buffet. In the evening, we had dinner from one of the food carts just off of Pub Street and then walked back to the hotel. Could have taken a tuk-tuk, but it was only about a 30-minute walk, we wanted to stretch our legs from sitting all day, and it felt very safe, even at 9pm. We passed an outdoors "gym" area where lots of families with kids were taking advantage of cooler night air. Did a little shopping for souvenirs but we didn't have enough US currency that was in "mint"-enough condition for them to accept it. BTW, all prices are listed everywhere in USD, and I'd recommend that you bring bills smaller than $20 (they'll accept it but if they don't have enough change to give you in USD, you'll get the rest in riels, and then you have to figure out where to spend them before leaving Cambodia). I'm taking away one star for the pickup experience at the hotel. We were waiting right outside the door for pickup at 6:30 (probably even a few minutes earlier), and other people were getting gradually picked up by taxi, vans, and buses, but no sign of our driver. At 6:50 I messaged the tour operator through Viator asking if the driver missed us somehow, and they responded that he was "here"... At 7:15, a driver stepped out of a van that was parked across from the curb the whole time we were waiting (we didn't think anyone was even in that van). He grabbed a smoke and then suddenly waved at us and asked what tour we were waiting for. So he turned out to be our driver - how were we supposed to know that? I don't exactly feel comfortable just going to every parked van and knocking on the window and asking if the driver is waiting for us (not speaking the word of Thai), I expected the driver to at least be outside keeping an eye out. Our guide later told us that we could have asked someone at hotel reception desk to come help us look for our driver, but the peculiarity of our hotel was that the reception was on the 12th floor. The ground level lobby was just a small area with elevators and a security guard. Anyway, since we started the journey almost 50 minutes late, we hit heavier traffic getting out of Bangkok, busier lines at both Thai and Cambodian immigration (couple of huge tour groups), and didn't get to the hotel in Siem Reap until just after 4pm. We needed to hurry to do the floating village tour since at that point we were losing daylight. The rest of the transportation was fine. Our driver in Cambodia was a bit...aggressive, but we just rolled with it (granted, his driving was certainly very skilled, and he probably helped us regain some of the lost time). The border crossings were very streamlined, we were met by someone at every junction, so to speak, and directed as to where to go next. We got Cambodian e-visas in advance, so we didn't need to pay anything else at the border. Definitely a great and memorable experience overall.

Fantastic 2 days tour to an incredible place

Great tour to an amazing place!!! Our tour guide, Yuth, an outstanding guide and wonderful person with great knowledge of the history of the place and always willing to help. Also gave us great tips. Make sure when you visit Angkor Wat to have your camera/cellphone fully charged, it’s just a wonderful photographer's paradise.

Wonderful Tour Guide

Sava was an amazing tour guide! He went above and beyond for us. Not only was his knowledge of the history of the area vast, but he had a great sense of humor too! Obviously, Angkor and all of ours temples are amazing, but Sava made the experience more enjoyable. Our dinner plans fell through, and Sava helped us make reservations at a different place as well as coordinated the transportation to bring us back to our hotel after dinner. He had great recommendations of places to visit beyond just the tour. We are so grateful to have had him as a tour guide!

A magical trip to Cambodia

Overall it was a unique...

Overall it was a unique and great experience, everything was well organized. Important to mention is: You need to bring dollars in cash to cross the boarder to Cambodia. Our guide Mr. T was very open, humorous and friendly and showed us around. He also offered to take many pictures! The only thing we didn’t like at the end was that we had to have lunch on our own at a tourist spot and not the option to eat somewhere local food with the tour guide and the driver before returning to Thailand.

Fabulose experience; could not have gone smoother!!

Scheduled this trip last minute. Went well. Long drive from Bangkok to the border. Was met at the border and all necessary arrangements were effectively made. Transfer to my Cambodian driver was good. Met my guide at hotel in Angkor. His name was Mr. Chhay. Took me to see the floating village on Teing Sap Lake. Met next morning to go to Angkor at 8:00. MrChhay was one of the best guides I have had. He was extremely knowledgable about all aspects of the three temples I toured. He made my experience very rewarding. He and my driver communicated flawlessly. He made sure I was able to get all the photographs I needed. He took a lot of them for me and transferred them to my phone at the end. He communicated with me very patiently and earnestly. I highly recommend him as well as my driver. We had lunch together before I left to return to Bangkok.

Wonderful experience

The whole experience was easy going and hassle free. My family and I were picked up at the hotel the driver couldn't speak English but he made his best to communicate using Google translator. He was very friendly and offered us to make stops whenever we needed. At the Cambodian border we were were straight away guided to the customs and the guide had our papers already filled out. After crossing the border we were picked up by our guide Mr, T. Mr Tea was a great help, very polite, respectful and provided us with very useful information. He was very kind and took very nice pictures of my family. I guess we were lucky to have the best guide from Cambodia.

Amazing sights

Angkor Wat is absolutely stunning. Long ride from Bangkok to Poi Pet, then cross the border (For Americans visa on arrival $30) and another 2.5 hours ride to Siem Reap. First day to Tonle Sap was eye opening (heat, poverty). Hotel was very nice. Took tuk tuk to Pub St ($1 each, beer are also $1) which was really fun and lively. The cost for this 2 day package is a bit high considering how cheap everything is. Tour guide V is amazing. Highly recommend this trip if you don’t mind the long drive and crossing land borders.

Worth the drive

The complex is amazing. Every inch of this temple had detail carving completed in only 70 years. Must of had 1,000 carverea to get that masterpiece completed.

Great drivers, tour guide and hotel.

Great trip … the boarder crossing was amazing. They have the process down to a science. Pay the $7 extra for the guy to handle your paperwork for you. Totally worth it. If they book you at the Tara hotel, it was also very nice. Long drive from BKK for sure. The Temple lay outs are NOT for anybody that is not fit. Between the heat, longer walks and the VERY uneven stones, let’s just say my Mother would have never made itZ

Great sights, but rough start and drop off.

Let me start by saying the tour in Cambodia was great. The temples we went to see were beautiful, the floating village was something you have to experience, and our tour guide, Chhay, was informative and excellent at his job. 5 stars for him. Although there were a few things that needed some work regarding the tour in general. From the get go, the description on Viator needs some adjustments to make it more clear, what will happen, and what cost to expect. We were met in front of our hotel, by a driver that spoke no English. We had no idea if we should go with him, other than him showing us a text with our passport experation information on it. Felt a bit sketchy, especially for a transport to cross a border between countries. No communication on the way, other than a few stops to get gas/snacks/restroom break. Next, we get to the border, are passed from the driver, to a lady at a stall, still no communication, then to a young man, who finally tells us he will help guide us through the border. The information on Viator states $30 for the Visa, and $10 for VIP skip the line service. We messaged the tour ahead of time, and it was recommended to get the visa on the day of the tour. We go in, and the guide changes the VIP price to $40 each all of a sudden, which we deferred because it seemed like he was trying to taking advantage of us. Then the border control charged $30 USD each for the Visa, and an extra $100 BHT a piece (not mentioned on Viator), I'm guessing to grease their palms. By the way, please note if the USD you bring have any defects, a small tear, any writing on it, it will not be accepted anywhere in Cambodia. The USD needs to be in almost perfect condition to use anywhere in Cambodia. Finally we get through and meet our next driver who finally speaks some better English to transfer us to a lunch spot and the hotel. Afterwords, the tour and tour guide were great. An additional $10 USD each was tacked on, another surprise, for requesting sunrise at Angkor Wat. That was fine, other than not being previously explained as an option in the description on Viator. And finally, the way back was slightly easier, as we did not need to get visas going back to Thailand. Although, the new young man guiding us back though the process, refused to let us carry our luggage as we did the first time, and then demanded a tip when we got to the final transport. If it wasn't for the lack of communication in the beginning and end of the trip, this would have received 5 stars.

A glimpse into the past to always remember

I want to rate this trip a 5 for the excellent way the tour was handled once we arrived. But the 4 is because there is a minor issue that bothered us and that is the border crossing at Cambodia. It can be a little intimidating if your guide is not there to help. So - let's focus on this excellent tour. This is a temple I have read about since a teenager. Seeing it in person is overwhelming and makes you want to step back in time. Our tour guide was truly great. His knowledge of the site gave life to the historic location. The time on site was adequate and the logistics very good.

Sunrise at Angkor Wat

Definitely would recommend, the whole experience was memorable! Booking was easy and straightforward. Our driver picked us up at our hotel in central Bangkok early, starting the only downside to the experience, the drive to Siam Reap (it’s 6 hours). We paid for the VIP border crossing, where an agent from the travel company filled out our paperwork for us, and it went fast and smooth. The hotel in Siam Reap was nice. We settled down for a few hours and then headed out to Tonle Sap lake to see a floating village and experience a different style of life, then back to the city to explore and eat! We strolled through the restaurant district but settled for a stall along the river (2 sodas, 2 full plates, $4!!!) We opted for the sunrise tour at Angkor Wat and were not disappointed! It was magical to watch the sunrise over the temple. A special thank you to Vithyea, our guide, for being so knowledgeable. He explained the history of Cambodia and the temple complex and answered all of our questions. Thank you! We strolled through Angkor Wat, Bayon Temple, Angkor Thom, and a few others. It was hot, but our driver had water to offer between each of the temples.

Highly recommended. Our tour guide Mr Sothy (Mr T) has deep knowledge of the area and explained clearly. The driver from the border to Siam Reap, Mr Chai, is very considerate and drives smoothly.

Another World Wonder Checked Off

Great, great experience. The six hour drive from Bangkok to Siem Reap was brutal though. Our guide in Cambodia, Serakyuth, was very knowledgeable, and patient. Highly recommend. A must do!

bad communication up front made for terrifying first part of trip but then had a great time

It has taken me 5 months to write this because technically, the tour was as advertised. I was picked up at my hotel, I stayed in a nice hotel in Cambodia and saw Siem Reap, Angkor Wat, Angkor Thom and Ta Prohm and experienced a little night life in between. My guide while I was in Siem Reap was knowledgeable and spoke fluent english. He was professional and attentive during my time with him and I thoroughly enjoyed speaking with him and learning from his first hand experience about the culture and history, as well as recommendations on dishes to try and where to go at night. He even hooked me up with a tuk-tuk driver who took me around at night and I did not need to worry about getting ripped off. That all being said, I am giving 2 stars because the trip to Cambodia from Thailand was terrifying. I am a female and I was traveling solo, however, I met a couple traveling together who booked the same tour and they were as confused and scared as I was during the process. I was picked up at my hotel by a person who spoke ZERO english, and she did not have anything written prepared, so I was unable to communicate to understand where we were going, how long it would take, if she would be with me for the entire duration, if and when we could stop, or literally any information whatsoever, as I was not provided an itinerary or plan of any kind from the organizer. So... it was a shock to me when she dropped me off at the Cambodia border. I didn't know why I was being dropped off, how long I would be there, who I was meeting, why I was dropped off, or even if I was in any danger. No one there at the border spoke any english so they couldn't answer my questions, either. This is the point at which I realized that I may have put myself in danger. I was TERRIFIED because I had NO IDEA what was going on and there was no one to ask and I had no phone signal because it was not a facility like an airport or bus station that sold SIM cards. It was a tourist company (I think?) with an outside bench under an awning. I don't know how long I sat there wondering if was being kidnapped. I want to say it was over an hour. Finally a guy walked up and told me to go with him. Again, I had no idea who he was or where he was taking me... but he's the first english speaker I had encoutered all day so I asked him as many questions as I could think of, but he did not volunteer enough information to make me comfortable with how my day was going. He informed me that he would be walking me over the border and helping me with customs. I handed a complete stranger my passport because at this point, I was in too deep to turn back. I said a little prayer and got my passport back and for the first time all day, I felt secure that I was not, in fact, being trafficked. The border guy took me to a bus station, and I was picked up by another person who didn't speak any english driving a super dirty SUV. The SUV guy drove me from that bus station at the border all the way to Siem Reap. At this point in the trip, I had given up trying to figure out how many more people I'd be passed off to, much less gaining any understanding of an itinerary or game plan of any kind. I just kinda tried to relax because I put myself in this horribly scary situation and now I have to deal with the consequences. When we finally got to the hotel in Siem Reap, I was shocked at how beautiful it was after the day I had and the cars I had ridden in. It was absolutely gorgeous inside and had a beautiful pool area and lounge area attached. Everyone spoke english but they didn't know anything about what was in store for me, they were not told anything. I was relieved I actually had a reservation. After all that, my tour guide met me and answered all my questions and was very communicative and apologetic for how my transportation was handled. He was great and the rest of the trip was wonderful and I felt safe.

The Guide Makes the Difference

Getting to/from the border was ok. The driver will likely not speak much English and will quite literally drop you off at the border. Don’t worry, this isn’t part of the tour it’s just the transportation. We had someone that spoke Thai in our group so it wasn’t an issue but I’d be comfortable doing this on my own in the future. Where the magic happened was when we met our guide Yuth. It’s not a secret, you could easily do this itinerary on your own for much, much cheaper. However, Yuth made this worth every penny. We had our own personal guide for 2 days and he was willing to adjust and accommodate every request. One person in our group wanted a tea set. Yuth didn’t take us to some tourist trap. Instead he takes us to some small business far away from the tourist centers. We walk by a few kilns and obvious pottery equipment…Yuth took us to where local Cambodian tea sets are actually made!!! Tons of options, all beautiful and more importantly truly local made. I even grabbed some hand made teak chopsticks (made at a different village though). The tea set was amazing and not something made in China but sold in Cambodia. I always want the real local cuisine; after the pottery shopping I asked Yuth to take us to a place with only locals for real local food. Yuth didn’t disappoint, we were the only foreigners; no English menu; no western beverages (like soda)…he helped us order, explained what everything was and where it was from and how to eat it (see pics). Tasted amazing!!! Finally, and this is where I swear Yuth is a magician, when we visited the Angkor Wat complex, Yuth took us on a route that had us virtually alone right until the very end. We didn’t see more then 3-5 people until the last 30 minutes. Made for amazing photos and a much more peaceful visit. Again..see pics. Bottom line…if you do this tour, demand Yuth. He did so many little things I can’t list them all. He really did go out of his way to ensure we had the best experience possible. I’d love to spend a full week in Cambodia and if I do I will be hiring Yuth to be my personal guide. Will be worth every single penny.

A Good tour you will always remember.

We were picked up by a driver from the tour company from our hotel in Bangkok, (Chatrium Hotel River side) at 6:30 AM . we arrived at the border of Cambodia at 9:30 AM .  Visa arrangements for the border crossing were completed in 30 mininute. Our tour representative at Cambodia was waiting for us at the border, and as soon as we crossed the bober, we were picked up to Angkor Wat at Siem City. it was two and half hours drive to our hotel at Angkor wat. The hotel that we stayed in is called Tara Angkor The hotel is very comfortable, and the front desk staff were very supportive and welcoming us with open hands to ensure that we are comfortable. Our pivate tour guide Mr. Young Serakyuth picked us up at 4:00 PM, and we traveled by boat to visit the floating village of Tonle SAP Lake ( one of the largest lakes in Asia). the next day, we explore some of Cambodia most celebrated temples ruins including ICON ANGKOR WAT. the hotel rooms were very clean . we enjoy breakfast served in the morning before returning to Bangkok.  We arrival at our hotel at Bangkok around 8:30 PM

Adventure of a lifetime!

I am a frequent traveler and this is by far the best tour I have had in 50 countries! I was handle like a VIP from my hotel in Bangkok to my return in Bangkok. There was enough time for self exploration as well. Highly recommended
