This was an awesome walking tour! Maelle from Culture Hunters focuses on the role of women in ancient Athens. But in doing so, she provides a well-rounded view of all of city life at the time… the festivals, the politics, the mythology, and more. The tour ends with a great view of the Acropolis… just right for photos. And Maelle also provided us with a fantastic lunch recommendation. A perfect morning.

A tour not to miss - an experience that will be the highlight of your holiday in Athens

My tour with Maelle has been the highlight of my two day adventure in Athens. We easily met in Monastiraki Square and set off on a two hour walk through the lives of women in Ancient Greece, real and mythical. Maelle wove a narrative that was fascinating, informative and made me think. Her knowledge and passion for Greece and Greek culture was obvious. I had been looking for an experience outside the usual tourist offerings and this tour was perfect. We went to areas often missed by tourists. I would do the tour again in a heart beat. Athena, and the city that bears her name, has found a home in my heart and I hope to return. Thank you Maelle.

Maelle from Culture-Hunters gave me a great tour of classical Greek historical sites, explaining what women might have done at each one. She talked about different classes of women, including poor women, slaves, and courtesans, not just the wives of wealthy citizens. Maelle was willing to give the tour just for me, as no one else has signed up for the day I choose.

This was the best walking tour I’ve ever been on! Our tour guide, Maelle was so great, she shared so much interesting information about women in Ancient Greece and answered our many questions! The tour took us around Athens, we saw a lot of key sights but also took us a bit off the beaten track to learn about parts of Athens history that isn’t well known. This was such an interesting and fun tour and I would recommend it to everyone

Really happy to have gone on this walking tour! Our guide really immersed us into the story of women in antiquity, while walking through some less known, less crowded areas in the center of Athens. I enjoyed the interactive atmosphere and chill vibe. We got a lot of interesting information and fun anecdotes along the way!

The tour was amazing. Even though I am Greek I wanted to join this tour just to celebrate International Woman's day and to honor a bit the unknown heroes of the country. It was definitely worth it. There was more than an archeology tour, i learned so much about culture it really blue my mind.

Excellent about women in ancient Greece

We were 8 norwegian friends, the group could be a maximum of 12. Our guide, Maelle was the best guide imaginable, no platitudes and typical guide superlatives. She spoke interestingly and in clear and excellent English about the myths of Athena and women's relationships in ancient Greece with short stops on a small walk from the old Agora up to Philopappos Hill, Hill of the Muses.

The Untold Story of Women in Ancient Greece

My wife and I already knew a lot about Greek mythology and Athens, and we still learned a ton! Maelle is friendly, a scholar, very knowledgeable about the subject and very passionate about uncovering the history of women in ancient Greece. She also gave us great tips about our further travels in Greece. A great afternoon!

The guide was excellent! Very knowledgeable, super friendly and charismatic. The pace and path followed was very manageable and took us through some lesser known parts of Historical Central Athens. The topic was particularly relevant and fascinating, without it being preachy or political. Our guide genuinely discussed something few people even think about in history classes. As a man I whole-heartedly recommend this tour to anybody wanting to learn more on how ±50% of the Athenian (and other city-states) population lived.

Not the usual walking tour :)

I love walking tours. Especially the ones where you can learn something new. And this tour does not disappoint. It is much less a guided tour than an open exchange between everyone. Our guide was a good storyteller and very knowledgeable but also interested in everyone's input. It was a nice interaction with interested, curious, lovely people and a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon in Athens. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking to broaden their experience beyond the old familiar. Let yourself be enchanted.

It's been one of the best tours I've experienced! I learned a lot, all the info is explained very clearly and the environment is super friendly. Besides is one-of-a-kind tour because this information is not easy to find, and to be able to learn it while we visit a few of the most iconic places in the city makes it special. Pleasant and Informative walk in Athens with a great guide!

This tour was exactly what i could have dreamed of! I learned so much in a short and pleasant walk… met some wonderful people, and felt inspired after!! I don’t usually join “tours” but this was a theme I was interested in, it seemed legit and professional but also casual and low key. It was perfect! Will definitely join one in the future!

Not your average history tour

This tour was absolutely amazing! In 2.5 hours, I learned so much about the culture and society of the Classic Period in Ancient Greece from the perspective of the women living during that time. This is not a topic I have come across on any other tour in Athens. All of the other tours focus on historical male figures and their contributions to society. If you are looking for a tour that’s not only informative but challenges you to think about how gender impacts societies, specifically in Ancient Greece, then this is the tour for you. Maëlle, the founder of Culture Hunters, was our tour guide. Maëlle is incredibly knowledgeable, well spoken, and kind. Even though the tour was in July, most of it was shaded so it wasn’t too hot. Overall, I cannot recommend this tour enough!

Amazing experience

We really felt like we understood better what ancient greece was like in a unique way focusing on women, their daily lives, great stories and women in mythology and we had a great time, our guide was amazing! Loved walking around the ancient ruins and finish under the trees with a great view on the acropolis!
