Horrible experience with Tours by Localsin Athens

The guide didn’t show up and we were notified 45 minutes after the tour should have started that he cancelled. It cost my client $120 in cab fare for his whole family. I will never book with this tour group again!

Dinner with friends

The tour guide was such a joy and so much fun. He was very flexible with plans, eager to please. We felt like we were out with a friend. Restaurant choices were great. Main restaurant had great entertainment. Loved this tour.

Couldn’t have been happier!

Irina was amazing! She was full of knowledge and knew all the right places to stop and eat at! Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking to get the real taste of Athens!

Excellent foodie tour

Great walking tour, we visited out of the way places and unique eateries. We met our guide right on time and he provided a brief overview of what we were doing and where we would be going.

So much fun!

We had such a great time with Max as our host for this food tour! He did such a great job of showing us around and giving us an authentic Greek experience. He is so personable and taught us about the history of Athens, astrology, and Greek mythology along with facts about living in Greece. We enjoyed one of the places he brought us so much, that we went back a few more times before we left! A note for Viator, the meeting place to meet the guide is not a central location and would benefit from moving closer to the city square. Also, 10 tastings does not equate to 10 different locations, some restaurants will include multiple food items to taste. Would definitely recommend for any foodies going to Athens!

The street food was really good and our tour guide extremely knowledgeable. We had a wonderful time.

Must do!

This was a great way to start our time in Athens, as we did the tour the afternoon we landed. Nasir was a great guide giving us lots of local information and recommendations for places to eat whilst we were in Athens. On our tour we ate traditional Greek pies, tasted different varieties of honey, local bagels, different Greek snacks and alcohol before finishing with gyros and loukoumades. We were absolutely stuffed afterwards! Nasir focused on businesses with history in Athens and knew the backstory of everywhere we went. Highly recommend!

Tasting tour of Athens

Firouri was an amazing local guide . He took us on a foot path about the city seeing different areas and experiencing different cafes and restaurants . He made sure we had time for Q&A , made sure we were able to enjoy seeing other things along the way , made sure we had excellent service and ensured we were hydrated . He even took us to the best Baklava !! He is a passionate about his heritage and was very knowledgeable . I highly recommend him as he is courteous , professional , kind and authentic . Thank you Fitouri for introducing us the best way to your city . The second day as we were in our own, we knew many many dishes and were able to enjoy our meals with educated choices . You are a rock star and represented Athens in a refined and professional manner . May you be blessed always .

Fabulous Tastings

Nasir was great! We really enjoyed all the tastings and the guided tour! We visited areas we may have not seen!

Delicious and fun!

Voula was a wonderful guide! My family and i had so much fun. She did a great job and tailored the tour to our needs as we had one pescatarian and one person with a shell fish allergy. We loved the food selection and everything was delicious. My favorites were the drunken pork, spanikopita, fried zuchinni and whipped feta!

The “REAL” Athens experience

We all loved the experience of going to the local food eatery with Nashir. He was very gracious and engaged our attention as he told us about his life in Athens. This experience was the highlight of our time in Sthens.

Five stops over five hours

We walked around popular spots in Athens and stopped for food four or five times over approximately 5 hours. Not only food information but also culture and historical information. Very good time

Fantastic experience in local gems. We tried an amazing selection of Greek foods - snacks, mezzi, local wines, olives, cheeses - the list goes on. Pace yourselves! Dimitri is wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about Greece from him. We highly recommend him and this fun tour.

Tasty food and lots of fun await!

We loved this tour! We are big fans of food tourism and this well organized and thoughtful tour of the food of Athens was wonderful. Spending 2 hours with Voula (our guide) flew by and was a lot of fun. She's super personable and has a wealth of knowledge about the food culture. Would gladly recommend to others!

Fun walking tour with plenty of delicious food/drinks!

We (2 couples) really enjoyed this daytime tour! Dimitri was a fun, friendly, knowledgeable guide, and he had made the advance bookings at some great casual dining spots! We had plenty to eat and drink along the way, including several sit down taverna-style places off the beaten path.

Not what we expected

Found that our guide lacked enough English skills to accurately answer some of the questions we had. Found t Hat good we had trialed in Athens was of significantly better quality than we sampled

Good food and drinks!

Knowledgable and personable guide (Dimitri). Numerous courses and snacks at various places. Good wine and drinks too!

Over priced

Way over priced, It cost my husband and l over $350 and we received very little food. When it came to buying us dessert they got us 1 small scoop of ice cream in a cup couldn’t even get us a cone. very disappointed ☹️

There are better options!

Took the 6 tastings option - ended up at only 3 stops. Online description supposed to be a 3 hour tour - ended after 2hrs 15mins as guide kept saying it’s a 2 hour tour only. Guide was friendly and seemed genuine. Paid the highest food tour option so far and so overall felt disappointed did not get to taste more local food. Perhaps try the group option instead - cheaper, safer, and higher chance of more tasting options.

Excellent food tour of Athens.

We had a very enjoyable tour. Our tour guide was excellent and his food choices were superb. He was very informative about the city of Athens, history of Greece and the local culture. I would highly recommend this tour.

Recommend if looking for last minute plans

We scheduled the food tour in hopes of visiting multiple places around the city to try authentic Greek foods. We were assigned to Dionysis, who is a local to Athens and was able to share a lot about Greek culture. He was very nice, but it was clear there was no organized agenda or agreements with restaurants. This would be nice for people who don’t mind going with the flow or having a formal agenda. While we only made two stops for food and a Greek coffee, the best part of the tour was a walk up the hill to get a view of the city. All-in-all, we could have gotten the food ourselves but the tour and historical knowledge was a nice perk.

Low key exploration of Athens

A great low key way to explore a little bit of Athens. It was great to be able to have a conversation with a local, get her viewpoint, and ask any questions you may have. The food was tasty and the portions light. A very nice basic overview. Eleni was very personable and we enjoyed her insight and company. I would definitely recommend.

AMAZING food and wine tour

Absolutely amazing! If you love to experience culture through food you need to book this. Our guide was amazing, and even accommodated one member of our party being vegetarian and the others not. So much fun and so much food and wine!! Highly recommend.

Scrumptious!

The overview of Greek foods was outstanding and the variety was tasty. Especially enjoyed our meal sampling the meats, fish and Greek coffee. The Greek donuts were an extra special treat. It’s a filling day so go hungry!

Best Introduction to Athens

Dimitri was WONDERFUL! My husband and I enjoyed our tour immensely. Dimitri was knowledgeable, welcoming and fun. We felt like locals hanging out with a friend. The food choices were traditional Greek Foods that were delicious. One suggestion though, don't eat before this tour because you get a lot of food. We were stuffed at the end. You also get historical information about the city which was a bonus! We highly recommend this tour and Dimitri!

Maxime was a great host. We loved eating our way through the vibrant part of the city. Favorite part- Gyro at Sabbas and the baklava.

Great Experience

Dionysia was a great host and met us in different location just to save us time walking. We experienced the flavor of the city from the open air markets to the quiet cafe. The numerous tastings and the explanations of the food were highly educational. We highly recommend her much better than her brother’s tour. lol her brother also has tours. Great experience!

Excellent guide

We had a food tour with Voula and she was excellent. We had a bit of a difficult teenage eater, and she was so kind and accommodating. We also had so much fun on her tour.

This was a great tour. Voula was our tour guide and she was fantastic! She was very friendly and personable. She was extremely knowledgeable about the food and history of the area. I definitely recommend doing this tour. You will have a lovely experience.

Our food tour with Nick was Fabulous.! He was so knowledgeable about history and the food places. Come hungry as it is a lot of wonderful food! I highly recommend this tour😁😁

A good way to explore

Nasir took us to some hidden gems! He gave us lots of background information and helped us navigate the crazy streets of Athens. The food was great!

A Must Do!!!

Nikolas was absolutely brilliant!!! I cannot recommend him enough! He was so knowledgeable about the area and the history. He was super friendly AND my son liked him as much as I did! He took us on a food tour of places that we never would have found on our own. One highlight was visiting Nina at the distillery. She was awesome! Very friendly and knowledgeable! And the lunch we had was superb! I am so glad we booked this tour with him! I recommend you do the same! You won’t regret it!!!

Great food and cultural information

Manos was an excellent guide who not only shared good local food with us but also showed us the local neighborhoods in Athens. He shared a large amount of cultural background that we found very interesting and informative. That was a big bonus to the great food we experienced.

This is not a food tour.

This tour was advertised as ten tastings with drinks. It ended up being a walking history tour of Athens neighborhoods. We only stopped at 2 places and only meat was ordered. We are not vegetarians but more balance would have been nice. We definitely did not get 10 tastings. A total of 4 small meat dishes were ordered and we walked A LOT without stopping to eat. The second (and last) place was extremely casual street food where we waited forever for food without anything to drink. After over three hours we asked the tour guide to end it. We did not want to go on another 45 minute walk with nothing to eat or drink again. We ended up buying our own dinners after spending a lot of money on a mostly food-less tour

Wonderful food experience

Our tour guide was Fitouri. He was very knowledge about the area and gave us a variety of Greek dishes we would not pick if we went our own to the restaurants. He was friendly and talkative and very engage in the group. He asked about allergies and was conscious throughout to accommodate all people. The only issue was the waiting for tables due to increase congestion and crowds from the nearby parade during the day.

Limited food options. Seemed extremely disorganized. Guides were ok but if stops were full they were removed from itinerary.

Great Greek Food Tour

Dionysia was a wonderful guide walking us through tastings of typical Greek food. Everything was delicious with a great variety. She was able to accommodate the vegetarian in our group and other diet restrictions we might have had. I highly recommend her tours and can’t wait to come back and take one of her cooking classes.

Won’t recommend it

Guy was very nice; but is not worth the price! Our tasting was fully covered in the first half an hour already!

Yummy

We went out with Markim, who was a delightful and intertaining guide. We started off with slovaki and Greek beer, then went for coffee in a hidden palace, then some amazing Gelato, before we went into a bakery for a whole bunch of yummy treats (peach juice with honey, baklava, cheese pies, spinach pies, and more. Overall a wonderful experience.

Walking food tour of Athens

Hi food, walking tour was outstanding. We had the opportunity to visit the local markets. Our tour guide was most informative and helpful. We enjoyed a myriad of taste of foods. I would highly recommend Dionysis. His knowledge of the local food scene was exceptional.
