Philosophy Experiential Workshop at Aristotle's Lyceum, Athens

Favorite Athens experience

We had many (many!!) tours on our 3-week Greece trip, and this philosophy workshop experience was our favorite. We particularly enjoy history and philosophy, but I think someone who isn’t as inclined as us would still really enjoy this experience. Some of the tours can get exhausting downloading so much information, so it was pleasant and fun to actually engage on a tour with some easy but thoughtful questions. They are not hard test questions but scenario questions about everyday life situations. These questions then encourage conversation and help learn more about Aristotle’s Ethics. The brief history lesson at the beginning also put everything into context. It was also nice to see a different part of Athens. Our guide, Alex, was very friendly and easy to talk to. A perfect way to experience Greek philosophy and history!

Engaging experience

We had amazing time with Olga! The whole experience was engaging and awakening, Aristotle's philosophy was simply explained with examples from everyday life. Plus there is a brief historical introduction which explains a lot about ancient Athens' development.

If you are looking for an authentic experience, look no further. Olga provided a wonderful experience as we took a journey into the minds of the great historic philosophers. The experience was well crafted with much interactive components. I especially enjoyed the exploration of virtues. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Great experience!!!

Best tour we had in Athens! Olga was amazing, explained the history of the 3 philosophers and also the virtues theory in a simple comprehensible way and we practiced it with examples. And we did that in the place of Aristotle's school, how cool is that!

Stimulating and fun!

The interactive aspects of the workshop brought about critical thinking, and a greater understanding of the golden mean between virtues and vices.

Funny and easy learning

The philosophy was easy, funny and interactive. The Lyceum site was small, but the feeling of walking on the steps of Aristotle was great. We did examples from our life and learned what Aristotle would do if he was in our position. The instructor was very good, he answered all our questions from modern philosophy too. If you visit the Lyceum is very nice to do this activity, because without this, there is not much to do there.

A great and thought provoking experience

Talking about philosophy while walking around Aristotle’s school brings forth very special sentiments. The historical overview in the beginning of the workshop helps paint a better picture about Aristotelian thought, and the activity during our walk in the Lyceum was thought-provoking.

An eye opening experience!

Walking around the ruins of the Lyceum, discussing about the philosophies of Aristotle was truly an amazing experience. Trying to apply Aristotle’s logic to simple modern-day examples was also very informative. It’s both a fun and an educational experience!

Must do!

Hubby and I had a wonderful time exploring Aristotle’s views and the Golden Mean. We had fun with the case studies cards, some of them very close to our own experiences! Alexander and Olga are very nice and knowledgeable people they explained everything in a simple way with specific examples. Great laughs when reading the ancient Greek quotes and great emotions when walking at the same pathway Aristotle and his students walked everyday around his school building remains.

Feeling a little more woke!

We had a wonderful experience with Olga and Alexander. We not only learned about the evolution of Philosophy through the ages, but the fun activity that they took us through really helped us understand Aristotle’s views on virtue. We got goosebumps walking around and learning at the Lyceum, just as the students used to do.

Many congratulations for the entire project!

It was time someone to find a different way to teach history and philosophy. My wife and I arranged a half day private experience. I say experience and not tour, because it is clearly not a tour. We first had the democracy workshop on Pnyx and then the philosophy one at Aristotle’s Lyceum. Both were well organized and the entire experience was joyful, educational and very very very interactive. It was more like a session, held by a professional, where we fully participated and actually did what the ancients used to do. We voted, debated, read phrases in ancient greek (yes!), even discussed matters of our everyday life and understood the aristotelic point of view. We used an ancient watertimer and a real ostrakon to vote, which we got home as souvenir. It was inspiring and definitely put us in the shoes of an ancient Athenian. Do it, do it, do it!

A fantastic experience

The experience was great! The organizer was enjoyable and knowledgeable! We discussed what it means to be a good person and learnt Aristotle's opinions on virtues, through fun and interactive activities! Everyone in the group participated in the conversation, and it was really exciting!

Περιπατητικοί Φιλόσοφοι

Το κάναμε δώρο γενεθλίων στην κολλητή μας που λατρεύει οτιδήποτε αρχαιοελληνικό. Περάσαμε τέλεια! Συζητήσαμε για την εποχή του Σωκράτη, του Πλάτωνα και του Αριστοτέλη. Φιλοσοφήσαμε πάνω στη θεωρία των Αρετών, ενώ περπατούσαμε περιμετρικά των αρχαίων, και στο τέλος συζητήσαμε το πώς και το γιατί! Μπράβο στην Όλγα και το Γιάννη, ήταν καταπληκτικοί!

Υπέροχη εμπειρία!

Πήγαμε ζευγάρι και κάναμε τη φιλοσοφία του Αριστοτέλη. Η εισηγήτρια ήταν φανταστική, μας εξήγησε τη θεωρία με multiple choice game και συζητήσαμε πως και γιατί μπορούμε να την εφαρμόσουμε στη ζωή μας, ενώ περπατούσαμε στα ίδια μονοπάτια με τον μεγάλο φιλόσοφο και τους μαθητές του! Πραγματικά νιώσαμε σαν αρχαίοι φιλόσοφοι!

Sehr empfehlenswert und informativ

Der Workshop ist sehr interessant und spannend. Alex ist besonders engagiert und informiert und hat uns das Gefühl gegeben, zurück in die Zeit von Aristoteles gedanklich zu reisen. Wir konnten uns über viele interessante Themen unterhalten und haben Einiges in entspannter und freundlicher Athmosphäre dazu gelernt. Sehr zu empfehlen!
