Mycenae and Epidaurus Full Day Trip from Athens with Walking Tour in Nafplio

Interesting sites.

Enjoyed the tour, especially Epidaurus. Long hot day, maybe could have kept some of the archaeological visits shorter due to heat and had more time in Nafplio.

A trip of a lifetime.

We had a great time during the trip. Nafplio is a beautiful town with old buildings and a square looking out to the sea. We went on a guided tour with Key Tours and our guide was very knowledgeable and informative.

Take the tour but skip the lunch.

Overall the tour was interesting and worth doing. The bus pick up was at a different hotel and it wasn’t a problem. We arrived on time and the bus came within five minutes. I would suggest skipping the lunch as it wasn’t that good. The variety was limited and the service was rushed. Some people left before receiving the dessert. Its better to spend the time looking around Nafplio. By taking the lunch option, there was no time to look around the city. The other sites were interesting, and it was nice to be out of the centre of Athens to see the surrounding area.

Great Day!

A long day but well worth it. Three great stops and an excellent lunch at Nafplio. The Lions Gate and royal tomb at Mycenea are the top vote getters!

Amazing trip!

It's been such a beautiful trip! An amazing site of ancient Mycenae with its ruins, tunnels and tumbs. Huge Epidaurus theatre...wow! Amazing Corinth canal. And Nafplio is such a beautiful town, great lunch! Dimitris was a wonderful guide and told us so many interesting facts and lots of great legends and myths during the journey. Definitely worth seeing all these sites when in Greece, highly recommend!

Amphitheater details.

Especially enjoyed our guide’s details of the amphitheater and the hospital site. Geography and her stories made for easier imagination of how life must have been at the time. Highly recommend.

Great tour to see an important site of the bronze age

Well organized tour, but group sizes may vary wildly depending on the season. If you are not a history nerd, the knowledge of the guide is more than adequate, but if you are looking for deep knowledge and understanding of history, you will find it a bit lacking. Mycene is a great site and so is Epidaurus while Nafplio is very charming for a meal.

Nice day trip

There is a lot for one day trip. I liked the sites at Epidaurus and Mycenae but there wasn't enough time to do anything at Nafplio. Launch there was very average as well. Our guide was a knowledgeable and nice lady. And the main downside of the trip was the coach. Seat wasn't comfortable for me as I have a bad back.

Short Nafplio stop was the highlight

Our guide was good and the Mycenae visit was very interesting. The visit to the beautiful town of Nafplio was the highlight for me, but unfortunately we had only 1 hour 15 minutes at this stop. There is no walking tour - should be removed from the description - as there is a paid lunch option here instead with the guide. I was glad to skip that option to explore the town. The Epidaurus visit was good, but we spent too much time there.

Didn’t get to go as the tour left without us . Despite several emails confirming an 0830 pick up from our hotel, the bus arrived at 0800 and left as we weren’t there. So so disappointing as we had planned this tour from Australia many months ago and I would hate anyone else to have this happen to

Great Option for Day Tour From Athens

Our guide was informative and well-organized. Luckily there were only about 16 people on the tour, unsure how I would feel if it had been full because the bus could hold almost 50 people. We had a great group and this was worth it. The meeting point, at their office, was packed with people and a little chaotic, but we had an on-time departure. They even dropped me off near my AirBNB at the end of the day. Service was great. If you have any kind of medical background, the museum at Epidauros was very interesting. Nafplio was cute, but the service at the restaurants on the main square was very slow. Definitely walk over a few streets to eat! Can't comment on the included lunch as I opted to get lunch on my own.

Meaningful, enjoyable land experience beyond Athens.

Absolutely loved this tour. I wanted to experience bit of Greece from land and away from the islands and away from Athens. I picked an excellent tour for exactly that experience. On time and friendly pickup and return to my hotel. Got my fill of gazing at olive trees of the verdant Peloponnese. Wow, what natural wealth is there! The female tour guide (forgot her name) was informative and answered my questions. Had plenty of free time at each stop. Enjoyed the lunch at Nafplio.

Long Day but Great Trip

A long bus ride but worth the trip. We were on the bus for about 4 hours total of driving. Be prepared for walking especially up hill. Wear a hat because the sun is intense. That being said, the tour was fantastic. The canal was awe inspiring. Mycenae and Epidaurus were both great trips. Lunch was wonderful- chicken, potatoes, cheese appetizers, and a great apple dessert. It was a long day with lots of different stops but well worth the time.

A sprint through the Peloponnese

What an experience! Where do I begin? This tour is a sprint and helps you get in shape if you are not already. The only boring place is Mycenae as actually there you get some time off to enjoy the scenery and take pictures. The time spent at other sites is brief, don't worry, and the tour guide will continuosly remind you that we don’t have time. For Nafplio, you better bring your sandwiches to quickly eat them to have time to enjoy the city (if you are boring as we are and actually want to do that), because the tour management did not plan even 2 hours there because we don't have time. Furthermore, the bus is a revelation. After rushing after the tour guide under the boiling sun and maybe getting to play tourist and take some pictures, you are welcomed in a bus that is at least 10 degrees cooler. So if you plan to get sick, this is the tour to chose! The only reason why we give 2 stars is because the sites are beautiful and the tour guide had interesting stories about those places, when not running around and reminding us that we don't have time. She would be really interesting to listen to if the tour management organized this as a whole day tour.

Perfect day!

Our guide Stavros was incredible - so knowledgeable and really made the experience work for the whole group. The itinerary was perfect - no wasted time and we saw a lot!

Almost as advertised

Tour guide was knowledgeable and helpful. Sites were worth seeing. Only problem, there was no walking tour of Nafplio as advertised.

Great overview of Mycenae and Epidaurus

The trip to Mycenae and Epidaurus were well worth it. Christine, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and made the history come alive. There is very little time in Nafplio. I would skip the lunch option as the food choices were very marginal. There are plenty of places for lunch on your own and then you may have a little more time to walk around Nafplio.

This was a great way to do a day trip from Athens The tour was organized and efficient Our guide Katarina was knowledgeable, informative and fun to be with We visited Epidaurus and saw the wonderful stadium Then we had lunch in Nafplio (I would recommend not doing the prepaid lunch, although it was good, we had no options) Nafplio is an enchanting seaside city The Mycenae ruins were incredible Definitely would recommend this tour

Perfect day

We had a very entertaining and knowledgeable guide in Katrina and a courteous driver in Lucas. Pickup was punctual and the entire days activities went smoothly. There was sufficient time allotted at each destination to explore and take pictures.

Beautiful excursion with a great guide : Simon

We enjoyed very much this excursion and we recommend it. Simon was our guide and made the excursion XL (!) absolutely a pleasure to hear his explanations and rather moving to experience the respect and passion he feels for his cultural heritage. I wished to have extra 15 minutes on each location and arriving a bit later in Athens as a 10 hours tour is the entire day anyway in Micenas (the longest stop) we run out of time to visit the site around the Museum . The food at Nautilus was fine for what we payed but way too long waiting for a restaurant that knows in advance how many people they will host , the entrance was a salad, no need for delay, it was long waiting thus we run out of time to look around. In general a good tour amazing places of course!, hugely interesting and make it shine by our knowledgeable guide Simon.

Great day trip with wonderful sites

We really enjoyed the trip. The intitial drive was kind of long, but that's expected. In Epidaurus the guide did a wonderful job explaining everything. I just wish we had maybe 20 or so minutes more so we could have climbed to the top. Lunch in Napfalio was wonderful and worth the money to include in the tour.... It was at alovely seaside restaurant and included appetizer, salad, chicken breast plate with fries, and a dessert. The town was super cute... Would be amazing to have a tour of the Venetian fortress with the tour. Mycenae was amazing! Incredible ruins with freedom to explore them. Not crowded at all. Nice that we had time to go to the top and to quickly visit the museum. Then the Mycenaean tomb was super cool. You are allowed to enter and see it for yourself.

Worth your time

Enjoyed the sights, ruins. Good guide. Would have enjoyed more time at Nafplio to explore shops, town and waterfront not just a quick lunch, during the stop. Bus was comfortable and not overly crowded but not luxury. No wifi available on bus despite tour description stating it was.

Comfortable way to see Greece

This was a lovey way to spend the day traveling away from Athens. There is a great deal to explore. Great stops to pick up small gifts. This was an English/Spanish tour which meant a lot of talking by Yourvis. He did a great job teaching about the history or various places, and guiding our tour. It was a lot to listen to everything in English and Spanish (being a n English speaker). I would prefer an English only tour in the future, which is how it was explained online. Bus was very comfortable, but leaked water in the rain. Our lunch was not covered, as described on the web because we registered the morning of the tour.

Epidaurus Nafplio Tour Review

Our guide Melins was A+ excellent. She was very knowledgeable and quite pleasant. I personally loved Nafplio...a very nice surprise. The Epidauras amphitheater was amazing. I would like to return to both.

Historic day out

A fantastic and fascinating day out. The tour was well paced and there was enough time to look around. I did not pay for the package with lunch as there was a set menu, and instead had lunch at another one of the restaurants facing the ocean and then took a walk around Napflion.

Very Beautiful

I enjoyed driving through the Peloponnese countryside. Very beautiful. The amphitheatre at Epidaurus fun.

Over all the decent trip but

FIRST I HAVE TO GIVE GREAT PROPS to Key tours ( and is why I rated it 4 instead of 2) !! We screwed up and set our alarm clock on hour off (granted that they could have called up to our room when they picked us up in the first place but) so we missed the bus. We called the office and they worked with us to get a second bus that was on a different route to collect us. They could have just sad too bad and called it a day. SO THANK YOU! as for the tour, it was nice but the 2 things which kind of put a damper on things was 1) the obligatory stop at the tourist trap shop where we were forced to listen to the sales pitch and expected to pay 3 times the price for items we saw in Athens before and after the trip. for example Pythagorean cup for which they were charging 17eu - we bought in the plack for 3. The other really disappointing this was lunch - we bought it including the package since we knew the time was limited and we didn't know how busy other places were going to be. Enough to say that - if you're on a greek tour you might expect some greek food!? Place they took us to served - though better cooked - wedding catering chicken breast with french fries and some lettuce you could get anywhere on the planet. I MEAN COME ON - some Greek salad with feta and olives are too much to ask? Lamb, gyro's musaka!? I mean hell, charge an extra $5 or something, I already spent like $160 per person, ! would much rather be charged some extra and get some kind of (hopefully good) regional or ethnic food than some generic cafetaria crap.

Fantastic Day

Our tour guide was so knowledgeable about Mycenae, Epidaurus, and Nafplio. She was helpful, easy to understand, and went out of her way to explain the small details of the various locations so that we could truly appreciate the history of each place.

Excellent day trip. Not to be missed.

A really interesting and enjoyable day trip. Very comfortable coach with stops at Corinth Canal, Epidaurus and Mycenae. Our guide Marianna was first class with excellent information clearly communicated. Having studied Greek civilisation and culture I was really looking forward to this and was not disappointed. This trip was the perfect preparation for going to the Archaeological Museum in Athens to see the amazing artifacts found in Mycenae. DONT MISS IT!!

Disappointing day trip! DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Its really great to be able to take a day trip to Epidaurus and Mycenae. However, I do not recommend this tour. NOT ENOUGH TIME at the historic sites. The scenic drive to Epidaurus is nice but I would rather have gotten to the monument earlier, had less talking on site and had more time to explore the theatre and then the temple that is also on site. It wasn't possible to do both. This is a once in a lifetime tour for many people. So disappointing! SAME at Mycenae - unless you can take at least 30 minutes inside museum its difficult to humanise the site. The lunch was TERRIBLE (better if people BYO and we use this time to explore the sites) and the WORST part of it all was at the end we were driven to this AWEFUL gift store - again, better to spend time at the sites (and there are gift stores there if you wanted to buy souvenirs). The guide was mediocre - too much talking on site (could be done while we drove teach place). Has it ever occurred to the people who write the descriptions that we now live in 2019 and our perspective on history has changed. We don't always want to hear it from a male perspective - there should be at least some notion that history is subjective and that there are many other stories to be told. Where are the women???

Unforgettable Tour!

This was an amazing tour! My sister and I were in Athens for only a few days and we wanted to see as much of Greece as we could, so this was perfect - my favorite day in Greece by far. KeyTours did a good job of making time for a lot of sites without it feeling rushed. Epidaurus, Nafplio, and Mycenae were incredible. We loved the ancient sites and the port town was very pleasant. None of the stops were terribly crowded either. We opted for the tour lunch in Nafplio which was both delicious and filling, and we still had time left over to explore the town a bit. Our guide Melina was fantastic. She was very informative, professional, and charming and provided us with an unforgettable tour of the region. Definitely recommend.

Ancient World Brought to Life

After a confusing start with lots of hand waving by drivers and organisers we set off our guide Maria was mercifully not one of those that drones on and on and on just for the sake of it. She brought history to Life and was so interesting. All the sights we saw on this tour were simply amazing,but do require a good degree of fitness as some of the walks can be quite steep.Views were really amazing and worth the hike. One big groan though is the lunch,I wish there was a CHOICE and not simply have what they have chosen, plonked in front of me. In future we will do our own thing and eat at a restaurant of our own choosing as Nafpoli is STUNNING and our group were a bunch of whingers. A great tour and loads of great pictures.

Great Tour

Evan our guide was fantastic. After a rather mixed up start with people being late to the tour, we got underway. The Corinth Canal was our first stop and a good photo opportunity. We then went to Epidaurus and saw a well preserved Theatre and other sites. Lunch was then at Nafplio. Nafplio was a beautiful town and it would have been good to have has a bit of extra time there. Finally we went to Mycenae which was fantastic. Our guide made the tour better with his knowledge and mythical Greek stories. It’s a long day but well worth it.

Great day out

A full day but not exhausting, with enough time in Corinth, Mycenae, Nafplio and Epidaurus. We didn't choose the lunch option as there are plenty of other places. Anastasia was the guide and she was excellent: enough information, helpful, fun and efficient. We all really enjoyed it.

Poor Tour Guide

We were very disappointed with our tour guide who presented herself unprofessional, disrespectful and rude. The tour started late due to disorganized, when she came on the bus, she kicked a young guy and took his seat for placing her personal belongings instead of using her guide seat. Throughout the tour, she kept challenging us and made fun on us. Even we told her right at the beginning we came from Montreal, she insisted that we are from somewhere else that we speak a different language, I guess due to our orient face. She rudely told a couple who returned to meet up point 5 minutes late in front of everybody via microphone. It was supposed to be a 11 hours tour and we ended up finished in 9 hours, no wonder why she kept rushing every one. I don’t remember her Greek name, but a copy of her picture, I am very surprised that Key Tours has such unprofessional tour guide.

Nice trip, BAD organization

The trip itself is interesting and the guide we had was very nice and informative. However the way it was organized, was not nice at all. The trip was supposed to start at 8:30. The pickup from the hotel was included in the price and they made us be at the meeting point at 7:30. We arrived on time, the bus was picking up people from other hotels and after 1,5 hours we left the town. The problem is, that when we were leaving Athens we were passing by our meeting point again, which means, they had made us stay on the bus 1,5 hours before the trip started, instead of picking us up at the very end. That was quite frustrating. At the end of the trip, for drop-off, we asked the guide to make it different and she helped us, but in the morning 1,5 hrs makes a huge difference. The other thing we didn't like was the organization of lunch. If we were to chose again, we would go for an option without lunch and order something independently. Having booked the trip with lunch, you don't have any option to choose the dish, you receive what had been selected before. If this is not your taste, you have a problem. Additionally the drinks (apart from water) were not included, which was also surprising bearing in mind the price. To sum up, a pleasant tour with improvements on arranging some parts needed.

Rent a car and go by yourself, tour logistic is terrible.

It's the first time Mr and my wife do a guided tour like these, which we always said we would never do, and we should have trusted our judgement. First things first, we got to the pickup location 10 min earlier, there was some other people also waiting there, they came and ask my name, we we're the only ones going from that group of people waiting. After 20 min of bus route trough the rush morning hour of Downton Athens, we had to turn back and pick up two ladies that were there at the pickup place, apparently forgotten by the the agency people. The tour guide Mariana was very good and knowledgeable but the whole thing was done in a hurry. The first stop to see one of the "attractions" is Corinthian canal, but in reality is just a refreshment stop, if you want to see it you better hurry up there and forget about toilet or coffee... And throughout the day was the same attitude. Second stop in Mycenae. Same thing, my wife was pregnant and she had to go to the toilet at first, no waiting for us, we didn't even know where the group was after she left the toilet and had to go searching for them to find them in the museum already and half way through the explanation. After the guided visit in the museum, you have again to hurry up and run through the ruins to see it. And back to the bus, quick stop at the tomb of Agamemnon (as it is advertised by the agency but in reality they are not sure if it is there or not). Bus again and there we went for the lunch, which did not happen we're it was supposed to be in Nafplion, no choice in the menu, appetizer, chicken, salad and orange, wine, coffee or soft drinks not included! When we got to Nafplion it was just for a ten minute walk in the parking lot for pictures of the sea and back to the bus. Finally our last stop was Epidauros, again the rushing through the museum, then the theater quickly, by then we just stayed behind to enjoy a little bit, but always with the feeling that we would be back to the bus with everybody waiting for us. Conclusion: Please don't get me wrong, all the locations that we've been are great, but the whole logistic is, for me, a nightmare which I'll never repeat. And it wasn't cheap! If we had rented a car, paid for the gas / tolls / ticket entrance to all the places we went, plus a nice lunch, we would have paid half.
