Our kids, aged 10 and 8, found this to be a thoroughly engaging experience and a great way to learn a bit about ancient Athens and the Greek myths. Activities were well thought out and kept the kids fully engaged. Antonia, our guide, pitched it perfectly for them.

Well thought out and very engaging for the kids

This tour was a really excellent way for the kids to get a sense of ancient Athens and to learn about the Greek myths. The content of the tour was well thought out, with lots of activities and stories to engage the kids (aged 10 and 8). Our guide Antonia pitched it perfectly for the ages of the children.

Great tour for kids interested in Greek myths

Excellent! The kids(9 and 11) had a blast - 10 stars! Lots of great stories and fun games, both intellectual and physical games that kept the kids engaged. Martina was a great and personable guide!!

Wonderful!

We had a wonderful time on this tour. We are very grateful we got to have a fun sightseeing experience with our three young children. Our 6 year old says this was the best experience of our entire trip.

Greece will definitely see me again... conflicted rating below however!

I really would like to give this company a 5 star but as much as I was pulling for them, I have to quickly downgrade them to a 3. In theory, they have a great concept and the one thing I will rate them individually on as a 5 is the fact they were able to provide a slew of options of things to do around the islands that I otherwise might have missed or just plainly did not have the time to research. A++ with that and they alleviated the stress and hassle of me having to get my boarding passes to the ferry and two different air transports as I island hopped. THAT was instrumentally wonderful. They also provided the transportation to and from which in theory was a great idea but here is where I very quickly started to have to rate them as 3 (C-) The first day's tour went seamless. The second day I thought it would be the same process however the driver never came to the lobby. I waited and waited so my instincts told me to walk to the edge of the road. (There was no communication from Effie or the team of Be a Greek to alert me that I had to walk to the end of the road to be picked up. THEN, I get to the car and the gentleman does not speak English very well so he just says he is picking up one person. I asked him to give me my name at which time he proceeded to say he didn't know my name. This is a huge safety issue for me as I am not getting into a random car in a country I had never been before with a man who hardly speaks English and me not knowing Greek. After having to muddle through this we recognized he was indeed my driver and when he dropped me and my friend off, he just dropped us off into the middle of a mad house. He did not tell us where to go and Effie and/or team did not give us insight of who we were to ask for or what station to go to- NOTHING. It was extremely frustrating. We basically had to fend for ourselves the rest of that day. From this day onward, we found a lot of the same where our driver would just drop us off and not tell us where to go and Effie and/or team would always say "your driver will t guide you." but that was not the case and not speaking the language made things even more complicated in many of these scenarios. Every time we provided feedback to the group there was always an excuse and no one accepted accountability that they had indeed messed up however one of the founders Dimitrios, was very instrumental at trying to make things right by giving us upgrades in some fashion after each instance but we were not interested in upgrades.. we wanted the incompetence to cease and just be presented with information. The "in a nut shell" feedback is that we are from the US and know nothing about Greece so "we don't know what we don't know" We appreciate having someone do all of the legwork in scheduling and coordinating and going back and forth with us in making decisions. However each night when you verify times to meet driver, it would be nice to also get a detail summary of exact addresses and names of where the driver is dropping us off if there is a street address. What are landmarks, etc. If we have to meet the driver at our hotel and have to walk up the road to meet him, that needs to be specified or if we have to walk down a pedestrian street to wait for him at the corner then this too needs to be clearly expressed in the night before confirmations. We do not feel as if Effie really truly "heard" what we presented as "must do's" because we paid over 7k for this trip only for the main thing we desired to be completely eliminated from our tour which truly ticked me off and caused some unpleasantness. Dimitrios comp'ed us again for this huge misunderstanding but it was rushed and and just not fun "after" the fact but the effort for him to try to remedy it was recognized There were so many things that went wrong that we even recognized the staff discussing how difficult we were being but again if we pay over 7k for a tr unless it is an act of mother nature keeping us from doing the things we agreed upon, we have every right to expect what we paid for and that is not being difficult. I could list out all of the other mishaps but won't because they were of the same nature just different locations and different drivers etc. Antonia- our Mythology guide was the BEST! She and she alone would probably make me sway my 3 (c-) to a 4 ( B) but I just can't do it. However Antonia.. you get an A++ as a stand alone and I thank you for absolutely everything!

Antonia brings ancient world alive!

My daughter (8) and I enjoyed this tour. It was a great way for my daughter to get oriented and immerse herself in Athens. Antonia was excellent, fun and knowledgeable. She engaged my daughter every minute and we all had fun. Great way to see ancient sites and cater to young kids interests and attention spans. Highly recommend it. Thank you, Antonia.

The one family tour you must take in Athens!!

My kids 8 &6 absolutely loved this tour. It’s a 4 hour mythology treasure hunt tour that is planned excellently , with age appropriate games, activities, stories. The time really just flew by. Everything is so well paced and extremely well done. During the tour, kids (and adults) learned so much while we got to see all the main highlights in Athens while the kids were having the best time! Antonia was our amazing tour guide & she connected with my kids so well. My daughter was extremely sad when the tour ended. She is keeping the maps she used as a souvenir to remember this special day and Antonia. And both my kids voted this tour as the best one of our entire 2 week stay in greece (and trust me, we did several :) !!! If you are looking for a tour in Athens as a family with kids, this is absolutely the one your you must take. You & specially your kids, will be so happy you did.

Brilliant tour

Our tour guide, Antonia, was incredible. Kept my eight year old daughter engaged throughout the four hour walking tour which I can tell you is no mean feat! Really informative, and relaxed and covered a great deal. A great four hours spent and got a good amount of steps in too! No hesitation in recommending either the tour, the agency or Antonia, our guide. All excellent!

Perfect Athens kids activity

We had a fabulous time on the Mythology treasure hunt. Our Guide, Antonia, was knowledgable, spoke brilliant English and had a great connection with our kids. It was fun, we all learned loads, and we went at our own pace (with a 2 year old!). Our older kids really enjoyed themselves, and loved the competitions, games and collecting points and numbers to crack the code. A lovely concept that worked really well and was delivered/pitched perfectly. Thank you Antonia.

Great guide but overpriced scavenger hunt

The tour was interesting, our guide Antonia was very nice, responded to all our questions and cheered and motivated our 9 year old daughter to do the games during this tour. The reason why we don't give more starts is that the tour was overpriced. We were expecting a more elaborated scavenger hunt with more exciting games.

Antonia was absolutely amazing! The tour was the perfect amount of time, the right amount of walking, and perfect locations to visit throughout. Antonia kept my 13 and 9 year old engaged the entire time. Super sweet young woman with a wealth of knowledge and so proud of her city and culture. A must do if you have a limited time in Athens.

Great and fun learning experience for kids.

Our kids are 9 and 10 and loved this tour. You don’t go into any sites. You walk around the city and walk by some sites (like the Olympic stadium). Therefore, you’ll need a different tour to see the Acropolis and ruins/forum. My kids said it was their favorite tour as they loved the stories and learning about different Greek Myths. We were surprised, but very happy we did it for our kids.

Wonderful kids tour

We had a wonderful tour with Antonia! She was absolutely lovely. Kind, patient and really great with the kids! They loved the stories, pictures and games and we all learned so much. Very thoughtful and fun tour and we really enjoyed spending time with Antonia. Highly recommend!

Wonderful experience we'd recommend for families trying to explore Athens with kids!

Our guide, Antonia, was wonderful. The games and activities she'd planned, her way of explaining things and engaging with the kids, and her stories, were all fun for both our girls, even with the big age gap (one is 6, one's 12). The refreshment break was nice, and Antonia was accommodating and understanding when we needed additional breaks, and tried her best to keep us in the shade and cool in the 94 degree we were walking in. I do think the tour is a bit long for younger kids, but that could also be because of the heat and because ours went 2 hours past our typical lunchtime. But overall, I'd totally recommend this for any family with kids- it was way more fun for ours (and for my husband and I as a result) to experience the sights this way then through regular tours oriented to adults, or than if we were to just have explored them on our own.

Fun ending to our Athens visit

Martina was a fantastic guide and fun personality. She was very patient with my kids even as they were cranky and moody periodically. The activities were fun, lots of learning took place and the kids were thrilled with the surprise at the end. Hard to say who enjoyed it more, me or the kids! Was a nice cap to our visit of Athens. On the one hand I went to say that the tour should be made shorter with a shorter walk and target older kids (9+) but my kids (8 and 5) really enjoyed it. It was at the edge of their comfort zone though, So if your kids are more cranky, they might not enjoy it.

Good outing for preteen and tween

Nice morning out and about around Athens. Our guide Bianca was great with the kids, and very easy to talk to, bery knowledgeable about Athens past and present. Games and activities were fun for adults and kids alike. Mine are aged 12/10 yrs and probably at the upper end for enjoying this tour. I learned a lot and the kids solidified their Greek mythology knowledge. The cost is high, but it was over 3 hours! (felt a little bit too long for me), it did include a snack and small toys at the end.

Games and Learning in Athens

This was a really fun and an excellent learning experience. We had taken another tour in the morning so we worried our kids might be too tired but they had a ton of fun and we’re super engaged. Our guide, Antonia, was knowledgeable and helped answer all our questions about the area. The games and structure of the tour were really well setup for kids. We all had a blast. Definitely recommended if you are looking for a cool experience to do as a family.

Best tour for kids

I’ve taken my kids around the world and this was the best kids tour we have ever gone on. We went on this tour on our first day in Athens. It was a great way to get our bearings in the city and learn enough about mythology to really understand what we saw during our time in Greece. It was also nice because you get to see of a bunch of sites during the tour, which helped us realize what sites we wanted to go back and explore further and which ones we didn’t need to spend more time on. Which actually helped us be so much more efficient on our trip. We had me, my husband and my 5, 8 and 10 year old boys on the tour. All three of my kids are quite spirited and my oldest is neurodiverse. They all LOVED this tour. Effie was so wonderful with my kids. She kept them fully engaged and was really attentive to their safety. She not only taught them a lot about Greek mythology, she made sure to reinforce the learning with games and physical activities which really kept my jet lagged children from getting bored or losing interest. You know when you can keep a 5 year old entertained for hours, you are doing something right. This tour had a break in the middle for a beverage and bathroom break- which is essential for the kids. They really did think of everything. At the end of our time in Greece I asked the kids what they learned and most of what they said came from this tour. We did a kids tour of the acropolis with a different company later in the week and were really disappointed. It didn’t even come close to touching this tour. Effie set a VERY high bar. This is the tour which all future kids tours will be compared. A note on accessibility- I was 4 days out from being in a walking boot when I took this tour. I was still using a heel lift and limping a bit. I was nervous on whether I could do the full tour but it went great. Effie breaks the tour up at different points and has stops where you can sit down while the kids learn and do their activities. It really broke up the walking enough that I was able to participate in the full tour. I really just can’t say enough good things about this tour! Just book it!

Great for young kids

Had a great tour with Martina. She was a great story teller (my 8 year old who knew all the myths still found the stories exciting) and the games kept my 5 year old entertained.

Excellent kids-oriented tours

We had an amazing experience with beagreek. We booked both the Acropolis tour with Eli, as well as the treasure hunt tour with Effi. Both guides were very knowledgeable and excellent at keeping the children interested an entertained, and I couldn’t recommend them more! Konstantina in the office was also very accommodating in finding us slots that met our busy schedule. A+ all around! Highly recommended!

Terrific tour for our teenager!

Alexandra and Bianca provided us with an interesting stimulating tour that kept our 13-year-old on her toes and learning. They were both knowledgeable and passionate about the topic and about their settlement in general. Highly recommend as this was a great introduction to our week in Athens and Greek mythology.

Ms. Effie was amazing, and our 7 year-old daughter loved every minute of it (she wanted to do it again the next day). Even after our trip to Greece, my daughter still said that she loved the Treasure Hunt activity the most. Ms. Effie kept our daughter (and adults) inspired, excited and engaged through riddles, stories and games at each location. The activities were very well thought through, and 4 hours flew by in minutes. We would highly recommend this activity to family with kids.

Entertaining for kids and adults

Effi was wonderful and kept a 10 year old, 6 year old and 2 adults entertained for hours! The treasure hunt was a great way to see things and keep the kids engaged. It was really interesting to learn all about Greek mythology!

We’re a family of four; our kids are 5 and 11 years old. This tour was absolutely amazing and far exceeded every hope and expectation I had. We were looking for a fun tour of Athens that would appeal to the adults but also entertain the kids. This tour was 4 hours of pure kid-friendly, adult-friendly, fun and learning. It is not easy to keep kids engaged and happy, but this tour was the perfect answer. I wish that every city had something similar. Ask for Effie if you can. She was our fantastic tour guide. She was knowledge, animated, entertaining and wonderful with the kids. 5 stars!!

Great tour for kids!

This tour was fabulous! My kids, ages 8 and 11, loved everything about it. In fact, they were disappointed that it was just one day. The tour was engaging and fun, compete with games at each stop and amazing stories from Greek Mythology. It is a great way for kids (and parents) to learn the ancient myths.

Well-paced, fun adventure!

This was an amazing adventure and so well paced for my two children (5 and 7). We had a blast and they learned so much. We are now having to take out all the Greek Mythology books from their school library! We highly recommend this tour.

MUST DO tour for all children in Athens!

If you are in Greece with young kids, this is a MUST DO! Our kids (6 and 9) had no interest in Greek mythology before this trip. Despite that, they were fully captivated for the whole 4 hours (a little more as it went over). They didn’t complain once about the walking. Effie is an expert story teller and knows how to interact with children. Our girls loved her. We saw so many sites, heard so many stories and facts that were great for the kids but also for the adults! There were interactive games at each stop which the kids loved. The reason this is a must do is because the learning extends beyond the 4 hour tour. Throughout the rest of our two weeks in Greece the kids were able to relate to the other places we went because of the stories they heard on this tour. It made everything more interesting. My daughters must do in Naxos was the Temple of Demeter, because of Effie’s stories of Demeter. My 9 year old has been reading Greek mythology nonstop since this tour where she had no interest before. One more thing - Viator did not communicate properly with us and so Be A Greek couldn’t get through to us on rescheduling due to weather. Despite them being super busy they went out of their way to reschedule for us to make it work. Truly a great company to work with. I encourage you to book a tour with them.

Extremely engaging and thoroughly enjoyable.

We are of Greek descent with very energetic young children and we found the tour enthralling and extremely engaging. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed the stories, activities and quizzes. Above all the humility and hospitality of our host Bianca, who speaks 6 languages, was heartwarming.

If you have kids in Athens - take this tour!!!

We absolutely loved our tour with Bianca. We have three boys (10, 7 and 3) and she found a way to involve each and every one of them. When our two oldest were shy and not participating at first she didn’t let it phase her and they came out of their shells and started just talking her ears off. She could read our family to a t and was really able to make sure we had the best experience based on energy levels and attitudes. She really is Greek openness and kindness epitomized. The tour is a great way to get your bearings and find pieces of Athens for you and your family. We visited six specific locations with rhymes and kid led map reading to get us there. Each location had a story and activity and challenge. We even had challenges between locations (where the kids beat the adults in their myth knowledge 😂). When the children were completing their challenges Bianca would answer any questions we would have or explain something regarding Greek culture or history. Our kids were also completely fine with the amount of walking if that’s a concern (although we brought a carrier for our 3 year old for some portions). We truly loved this tour and could not recommend enough. If you want to open the world of Athens to your young children, this is the tour to take. It was truly something special and we loved it.

Perfect Tour (and Guide) for Families

Bianca was the best tour guide today! We were late (because we didn’t leave our boat early enough) but she waited patiently to begin. When we arrived, her willingness to cater to our group was on display. She was so good with the kids and kept them engaged throughout the very hot day. She took breaks, found the shade and at each stop told wonderful (and accurate) mythological stories and ancient Athen history. Her backpack filled with “magic” was a true companion- keeping us wanting more with every turn. Our 6 and 9 year old learned so much and our whole group was so thankful to have such a kind and lovely guide in Bianca. We saw a lot on our walking tour and couldn’t wait to recommend this guide to others! We even invited her to America to see a Bucks game one day with us in Milwaukee! Go Giannis!

Magical moments with Greek Gods and Heroes

Efi captivated our children's (aged 8 to 4) attention all the time either by her stories about Greek mythology or by organizing games in relation with the Greek Gods and Heroes. She also spoke French, an asset for ours youngsters. Efi came well prepared. Full marks to her.

Amazing tour

The tour with our guide Effie was just marvelous. After about 4h of walking, talking and playing with her, our kids were sad because time was just flying and they did not want to stop listening to the amazing stories she told them. Overall we can absolutely recommend to do tour with her. Don’t leave Athens without this experience.

Fantastic experience!!

What a perfect way to start our time in Athens!! Our 10yos and 5yo had the best time with Effie, who was so fun, engaging, and responsive with them. She had awesome activities, really tuned in to what the kids were curious about and what they knew already, paced the four hours very well, and taught us all so much—both about Greek mythology and the history of Athens. We all appreciated also how helpful and fun it was just to get our bearings in the city this way. Effie had the kids guide the group from stop to stop using the treasure map, and that gave them a lot of confidence and sense of direction as we continued to explore Athens even after the tour. I can’t recommend this tour—and Effie!—highly enough.

Excellent tour

This tour was a fantastic start to our vacation in Greece especially for our 8 year old son who has loved Greek mythology for 3-4 years. Our guide was very knowledgeable about Greek Mythology and was deft at telling the stories in a memorable manor. The treasure hunt program was well thought out and included games, challenges and lots of time to ask questions and learn more.

The Best Way to See Athens with Kids

The smartest decision we made on our trip to Athens was to book this tour for my family. We are a family of 4. My kids are 11 and 9 and their absolute favorite thing we did was this tour with Effie. We spent 2 weeks in Greece with the tour being the first thing we did. We went horse back riding, took a sailing tour, etc. in Santorini, and my kids still say their favorite experience was the walking tour with Effie in Athens. Effie was so engaging and my children adored her. It was hot and there was a lot of walking (80% of Athens), but the kids had so much fun with the games and stories Effie told. They haven't stopped talking about it. Thank you so much Effie! I wish we could have brought you with us the entire trip. Lol

My sons were very interested in Greek mythology and Bianca made learning more so much fun! She was wonderful and we all enjoyed the tour greatly!

Great basic mythology tour for kids

Effie our tour guide was able to engage and teach my 2 young boys about Greek mythology and also helped them burn off some of their energy by incorporating physical games into the tour. I work with childhood educators and Effie was patient and could get to their level to grab their attention. By end of the tour, the boys treated her like a favourite aunt. I hope she wasn’t overwhelmed by them.

Effie was our guide, she was amazing and engaging. Three kids- 16,14, 8; 2 girls and one boy. I highly recommend to all families!

5-Star Experience

Effie was a 5-Star tour guide! She was very knowledgeable and wonderful with kids! They had a blast and enjoyed having activities, quizzes and games at each stop. The tour is worth it to see some of the lesser visited areas outside of the old city. And Effie, again, was amazing!!!

Interactive, informative, kid friendly. A+ experience

So so fun…I wasn’t sure it would hold my kids attention, but it definitely did! Bianca was incredible! My boys are 13 & 11 and have a lot of energy. Bianca was the best guide we could have asked for. We listened to stories, played physical games, answered riddles and won points by answering questions. It was truly interactive, informative and a great way to spend 4 hours in Athens. I can’t recommend this tour enough. Loved learning about Greek Mythology and seeing ancient Athens.

Wonderful for small kids!!

Traveling with small kids is always a challenge to keep them interested when sightseeing and Bianca (our guide) did an outstanding job! Our kids had a lot of fun with the dynamic and activities and were absolutely interested the hole time and although it was really hot they kept walking and playing without any complaints. Bianca is indeed a kid’s specialist and did wonders with them. We adults also had a wonderful experience and also learned very interesting facts. I would highly recommend this tour for families traveling with kids. Chris did a wonderful job finding us the right tour with very little notice and kept us informed the whole time. Great tour for families

We went on a tour with our two boys (6 and 3) and we all really enjoyed it. The pace and tone were just right, particularly for our 6 year old, and even our little one enjoyed the games we did in between the stories.
