Great historical overview and entertainment

PGT Tour was amazing with our delayed flight tour. We were able to buy some time venturing around Athens great sites. Our driver Dominic was well knowledgeable in the area and had a great sense of humor entertaining me and the kids. He took us to an incredible restaurant to eat some amazing local seafood before checking out Poseidon's Temple. Highly recommend this service for the whole family.

Customized, exceptional tour- check!

We went on a private tour as a family with Tolis, a most excellent tour guide. The sites are incredible but to have a private tour with a knowledgeable, friendly and engaging tour guide and driver truly took this experience to the next level. Nikos (the owner) was incredibly responsive and helped us to not only handle our tour plans but also helped customize our vacation needs based on our preferences. A beautiful drive along the coast, a wonderful oceanside table with exceptional food, and a tour guide who spent much of the time answering the multitude of questions by my curious teenagers and engaging in deep discussions on cartoon shows, politics and other things were so much beyond our expectations. I was not paid for this review and paid full price for the tour.

Excellent tour!

Our guide, Tolis, was great! He gave us a great overview of Greece and the history of the temples. He had a great sense of humor and very extensive knowledge.

Great Day in Athens

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and great with managing our short time in Athens. He also took us to a few “surprise” places like a delicious gyro restaurant and a beautiful lake for pictures. So excited to have been able to see the Temple of Poseidon, Acropolis Hill and Museum all in one day. He was delightful and would love to have him again as a tour guide.

Awesome Athens Tour

Friendly, engaging and fun way to see Athens in a day

Dominic, the guide cum driver was wonderful! He explained many details of the sites and history in a very jovial and engaging manner. He was kind, friendly and took care of the smallest comforts of our group. We started with Acropolis and when through many other sites in the city before heading out to Cape Sounion. We found a wonderful cove near the cape to spend a couple of hours in the water. Would love to travel again with PGT in future when we visit Athens for more time.

Fantastic Personal Tours of Greece

My husband and I did two day-tours with Private Greece Tours last week in Athens, Sounio and Delphi, and used the company to go to our cruise ship. The driver/guides were amazing. On-time, professional and clearly excited to share their knowledge and insights about everything Greece. The owner, Nikos Loukas, was so easy to work with. I swear he must never sleep because he answered my emails promptly at all hours when I was making arrangements from the U.S. and changing them in Greece. Also, driving through Athens is crazy, but we felt safe with these experienced drivers. Private Greece Tours is a great tour company that I would highly recommend. This company was recommended to me by a friend in the cruise industry.

Fantastic overview of Athens and beyond

George picked us up early from our hotel in a very comfortable van. He had our day planned out and got us to THE Acropolis right away to get in front of the crowds. Indeed, by the time we left there was a long line to get in. From there we drove through Athens hearing tales of the history of Greece and the city, including an amazing narration of the changing of the guards. He took us to the “south” and out of Athens, stopping in a small town for a great lunch where huge gyros were just $3.50 each. From there we went out to the temple of Poseidon. This was an amazing structure on the point over the water with hardly anyone there. The way home we encountered traffic but he kept narrating everything we saw while expertly dealing with Athens rush hour. Highly recommended tour.

Great tour by George

Great trip full of interesting history and present day information. Expert driving in comfort seeing the touristy and not so touristy parts of Athens and the southern area.

The best there is !!

This is our second time to Athens and second time using Private Greece Tours for shuttle transfers (airport/hotel and hotel/cruise ship) but also for tours around the city and outside the city. These guys, led by the owner Nikos are absolutely excellent. Great people, very knowledgeable, excellent communicators, and super friendly people. We made up our own tour and they delivered. It’s like driving around with family members. They also have nice comfortable vans to transport your group. We had 8 on one trip and 5 on the other, with lots of luggage of course. Highly recommend.

A great day with Dominic.

We were met at the cruise terminal in Athens by Dominic, in a clean air conditioned minivan. We were able to spend some time in the city before driving down to Cape Souinon. A beautiful coastal route with a stop for a good Greek lunch and then dropped off at the airport. Highly recommended, even with his bad jokes!

Tolis and the families amazing day trip.

Private Greece Tours, especially Tolis, we’re one of the best private tour companies I’ve ever participated with. Tolis is attention to detail and knowledge of Greek mythology in history was second to none. He was an amazing host with compassion and joy. He made the trip special for our family and allowed us the opportunity to see many unique sites and enjoy an amazing meal with him. It was our honor to meet him and his amazing company. Nikos set us up with one of the best drivers for a multi generational family. From the kindness, he showed my in-laws to the kindness. He showed my daughter. Awesome Greece!

PGT made it happen! Long before our trip to Greece, my husband and I have been coordinating with this company so we could do the Athens & Sounion Tour on top of a 6 day customized tour. Unlike the typical, run of the milll tour company who would ask for a down payment prior to confirming any booking, this company did not. Something we found out, that they’ve done for years. And that was novel. All the travel preparations : itinerary, airport transfers, visit to tour sites, hotel accommodations and everything else in between were arranged precisely the way we wanted it custom-tailored to our liking. Our driver/guide and body guard all rolled into one - Spyros was perfect for the job! He was a safe and punctual driver, a knowledgeable tour guide and a great traveling companion for the one week that he was with us. He rolled out for us the beauty and charm of Greece whether it be the history, the scenery or the one of a kind Greek cuisine. Amazing tour, guide and driver!!!

This tour was amazing. Communication ahead of time was quick and helpful. Our guide Anna and driver Harry were so wonderful and fun and informative. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. They even stopped by a pastry shop so we could try the pastries! They made our time in Athens so memorable. We wanted to bring them home with us! Wonderful people. I cannot say enough about the tour and company. 1st class all the way. You wont be sorry to use them for tours !

The BEST guide for any US citizen to comfortably enjoy A spectacular experience and tour of Athens and surrounding areas! Highly recommend using this service! Amazing Day with Spyros!

Amazing day tour of the Acropolis, highlights of Athens, including being lucky enough to see Changing of the Guard ceremony on a Sunday, and then wonderful trip down coast to see Poseidon Temple and delicious freshly caught fish for lunch.

We were a group of 7 adults. The vehicle was clean, and cool. The guide was amazing! Even used a microphone in the minibus which was so helpful. We could not have asked for more. Exceeded our really picky expectations.

Athens and Sounion in a day

Great tour of Athens in a day. We were on a cruise excursion. Our driver and guide Tolis was great! He was friendly and accomodating to our needs. We had great conversations with him and he gave us some insights into life in Greece as well as the useful information on the sites we visited. Would reccommend this tour to anyone visiting Athens!

Half day Sunset Tour Cape Sounion Temple of Poseidon

Dominick was fantastic! We had a great night. We were pressed for time and he wanted to be sure we were able to enjoy the beautiful sunset and still have time to enjoy a good meal. He brought us to a restaurant (KYMA) on the way to the Temple of Poseidon where they took our order in advance and had everything ready when we returned. Dominick was fun and such a great teller of the lore it was very enjoyable and highly recommended! The booking process was easy and Nikos was a pleasure. Thank you for a day we will not forget.

This was an amazing full day tour. Dominic was incredibly knowledgeable, funny and great with the kids. Seeing the Athens coastline and stopping fir a swim was a highlight. Highly recommend.

We had an amazing and informative tour with our driver and guide Spyros! He knew so much about the history of the area and explained it in an entertaining way. We stopped for lunch at an amazing sea side restaurant and hit all the attractions along the way. Wonderful experience

Arrived early to Athens for a cruise . Did one 1/2 day and one full day tour Sakis was our tour guide. Picked us up from airport ,to start first 1/2 day tour drop us at hotel. Next morning picked up at hotel for our full day tour then was dropped off at cruise ship. Sakis was extremely knowledgeable about the history of Greece among many other places. The places he took us were amazing. We also had time to eat at local restaurants. I would highly recommend private Greek tours and would ask for Sakis to be your guide.

Nikos & team are BEST IN CLASS!

The 3-throng approach that made our Athens visit so wonderful was executed to perfection by Nikos and his team at Private Greece Tours. Nikos was responsive, patient and very knowledgeable during the reservation phase. We had some specific places we wanted to visit and he was accommodating of all our requests. Our driver, Kostas, proved to be a local expert as he masterfully maneuvered the narrow streets of Athens. He was always waiting for us when we descended from various sites with his clean, air-conditioned car, chilled bottles of water and a huge smile. The star of the day, however, was our licensed private guide, Katerina. In order to accompany guests into the historical sites, guides must sit for rigorous courses including history, archeology, the history of art, geology, first aid, economy, traditions, mythology, religion, flora and of course, tourism. We knew we wanted background information when visiting sites, so we asked Nikos to find us a private guide. We hit the jackpot with Katerina. She was extremely knowledgeable about all things Greece, was personable, kind and patient. She helped rearrange our tour so we could see all the important things. She recommended a delicious, non-tourist-trap, seafood restaurant with the most breathtaking views on our way to Cape Sounion. She answered every question, took many photos and forever left an impression on us. Thank you Nikos, Kostas and Katerina for making our first trip to Athens one to remember!

Our guide #George was fantastic, he was very knowledgeable and friendly and ensured our safety for the 2 day tour of Athens. We saw a lot in our time and so grate to h8m for creating a memorable and fun experience. Highly recommended PGT, and #George was excellent, would select them again, if I’m ever back in Athens.

This is the way to see Athens!

We had a phenomenal experience with Essential Athens. I couldn’t recommend hiring a private driver and tour guide anymore! Our guide, George, was handsome, engaging, and most importantly, incredibly well-versed in Greek history. He took us to all of the key sites in Athens, and prepared us to not only best understand the historical context, but also how to navigate the particular site. We are chartering a sailboat and needed to provision up. Meaning we had to buy a bunch of wine. 😀 While we were visiting the Acropolis, George researched the best wine shop in Athens and took us there. He accompanied us into the store to make sure that we could communicate. He then directed us to a neighborhood, traditional Greek restaurant. We had phenomenal and inexpensive food, and wouldn’t have found nor entered this restaurant without his suggestion. While hiring a private guide and driver seems like a expensive proposition, it is a luxury absolutely worth paying for. I can’t recommend Essential Athens anymore.

Customized and clever !

George provided our diverse group with a wonderful tour of the Cape and Poseidon’s temple along with a beautiful fresh fish lunch at a local restaurant. He made reservations and ensured we we treated as valued guests. He accommodated every request, and we particularly enjoyed his knowledgable commentary about the Greek coast as well as the Greek language. He was an excellent tour guide.

Wonderful week in Greece

We had the best experience with PGT! Nikos helped arrange 4 days of tours in Athens & the surrounding cities & made the planning & our airport/cruise transfers run smoothly. We lucked out with having George as our driver each day. He felt like a friend each morning when we saw him again. I was so impressed with his knowledge & this helped out when we were watching the weather & he knew it would be best to switch two of our tours to avoid the rain. George found the best restaurants & the best views. He made our time relaxing & fun!

Perfect tour and guide: The Gold Standard

Last minute flight cancellations by Air France left us scrambling and ending up with only 2 days to see Athens. Private Greece Tours came through for us. Before the tour, we were advised which on-line ticket to purchase, so that we could enter all of the sites with that one ticket. We began by telling our guide, Makis, to assume we knew nothing about Grece and that our next stop was Rome. Makis spent all day showing us everything in Athens, while expertly and simply retelling 4000 years of history, weaving in Greek and Roman mythology and history, complete with maps, with overlays of modern and ancient areas. He was a walking/driving encyclopedia. He knew exactly where and when to go to each of the sites to miss the crowds and to have the best vantage point, especially for the changing of the guard. On the second day he drove us to the Temple of Poseidon. As we drove, he talked about the history of the temple and the cities along the way. Overall, we could not have asked for a better experience or guide. Makis also told us a lot about Greek life in general. His exceptional knowledge and discussions were an exceptional leadoff to our tours of the Roman ruins, as the the ancient cultures overlap and greek statues and references can be found in Rome. My thanks to Makis for giving me a much better understanding of what I saw in Rome.

Full day of wonderful history

Our guide Dominic was outstanding! He shared rich history commentary as we traveled from site to site. If you want to pack in a full day of sightseeing this is an excellent tour.

Amazing Athens! The right tour guide makes the tour that much better!

I'd give it 10 stars if I could. Essential Athens and Cape Sounion Private tour was perfect and personalized for us. All thanks goes to our guide Tolis, he made the tour special for us. He was knowledgeable, personable, and accommodating! Only regret is that he wasn't our guide for our entire stay in Athens! Added bonus, his dining recommendations in Athens were firt for a foodie, so good! When you book, ask for Tolis!

Perfect tour

If you’re planning a trip to Athens you absolutely have to book to this guy his name is Sakis. We recently had a pleasure of taking this tour, and it was an incredible experience from start it to finish. First of all our heart guide was simply amazing. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the history and culture of Athens, his passion for the subject. Really shown through his explanation. He also wear very nice suit. We do personal behavior, making us feel welcome. The tour itself was fantastic. We started off by exploring some of the most iconic site acropolis the Parthenon in Athens I will guide, brought the history of each location of life and providing fascinating insight about life. In ancient Greece to visit the temple of Poseidon, was breathtaking scenery. Combined with the opportunity to see one of the most impressive, ancient temples, Grace was truly unforgettable. Overall, I cannot recommend this tour guide enough. This is the perfect way to do it.

A Private Tour is the Perfect Way to See Athens

A private guide took the two of us all around Athens as well as along the coast to Poseidon's Temple stopping for lunch along the coast. Our guide Tolis took us anywhere we wanted to go for particular shopping items but made sure we saw the major sites of the city, including the changing of the guards. It was worth every penny spent.

I had originally contacted another tour group about arranging for a private tour of Athens and Delphi, but they never got back to me. When I contacted Nikos to go through Private Greece Tours, he responded to my email immediately, and was incredibly helpful in getting my booking arranged and confirmed. I had two separate tours, a day tour of Athens and a multi-day tour to Delphi and Meteora, as well as airport transfers. Tolis was my driver for everything, and he was excellent. He was on time (on the dot, even!), knowledgeable about history (I learned a lot, even though I’m sure I’m not going to retain it all), and friendly. I had a great time with him, and highly recommend PGT and Tolis in particular.
