Beat the Crowds Acropolis Afternoon Tour - Small group

Even with a small group tour, we needed headsets to be able to hear.

We enjoyed our visit to the Acropolis -- it's obviously a must-do when visiting Athens. I don't know if I would do a guided tour again though. This particular tour did not have any headsets and it was very hard to hear our guide sometimes. It was very loud with so many other groups around and our guide was soft-spoken. I think we would have preferred to wander a bit more than standing in the shade and struggling to listen. Our guide was very funny and nice though. We also did not get the "fun map of Ancient Athens" even though we had them purchase our tickets. Going in the afternoon was awesome! It wasn't too crowded, easy to get in. I loved being there as the sun was going down.

Costas was a great story...

Costas was a great story teller and historian. We enjoyed all of his explanations and it was a great way to get a brief but entertaining overview of the Acropolis/Parthenon.

Insightful guide, just the right amount of information and time

Seeing the Parthenon and the acropolis with such a thoughtful and knowledgeable guide, added enormously to our experience. She was an archaeologist and shared lots of great details. Our small group of five was just the right number to explore the site with. I would highly recommend this tour.

Acropolis late afternoon

Amazing to see beautiful ancient buildings, and much less crowded than midday. Enjoyed hearing the guide's info about the Parthenon and other structures.

Definitely can recommend

I wanted to take a tour at the Acropolis without big crowds and also avoid the heat. So I found this online and it was the best choice. I learned everything I needed to know about this beautiful historical sight and can highly recommend it :)

Alex was incredibly knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the tour and had tremendous insight on the many aspects of the Acropolis and Parthenon. He was thoughtful and careful with the path to keep everyone safe. Highly recommend him and this tour!

Incredible Acropolis and Museum Tour

Alex, our tour guide, was so knowledgeable. We were in Greece for almost 2 weeks, this was my favorite guided tour from the whole trip. It was our family, so all adults but various ages (oldest was 69, youngest was 32). Only 1 person had been to Athens before, so we learned a lot about the history and Alex had so much interesting information to share. I had coordinated the group tour for Saturday afternoon, as several folks in our group arrived to Athens on Saturday. So for some folks, it was the end of a very long day but had agreed it would be best to stay busy for a bit. When we first started, it was sunny and hot. Two of the folks with me kinda gave me a glance and were like "we'll see if we make it the whole time, this seems like it will be long" but our group had such an incredible time no wanted to leave early, everyone stayed and enjoyed ourselves for the entire 4 hours. Alex knew all the rights spots to stop in the shade, where to get good photos. He helped our group get great photos. The museum was incredible and Alex made sure that we didn't miss any of the important information, saw all the antiquities / statues / etc. Thank you!!

Awful experience

Our tour guide was nice enough BUT he was soft spoken and had a difficult to understand accent. This was an English tour and many of us had great difficulty in understanding him. He did not provide headphones which made it even worse because of the crowds. He spoke far too fast. Almost everyone complained. And do not believe that this will be a “beat the crowd” time of day. The Acroplis was mobbed. Finally, it was 50.00 each and didn’t even include tickets into the Acroplis. The fact you have to buy tickets isn’t very clear and most of our group didn’t have them to start. There were 15 of us on the tour so 750.00 for a 1.9 hour walking tour? We considered it a rip off.

Could have been better

The tour was OK, but it is importent to note that the ticket price does not include the enterence fee.

Made it to the top of the acropolis! So amazing.

Our tour guide Demi was such an excellent educator. She is a 27 year old archeologist, who studied 6 years in her speciality before being allowed to give the acropolis tour. She was amazing, so kind, well organized, on time but allowing for people’s abilities, and funny. I never thought I’d be able to make the hike at 80 years but one step at a time with my darling daughter at my side, we both felt triumphant when we reached the summit. Your guide was wonderful.

Good Tour But Disappointed in Alternative Athens

We decided to book this small group tour of the acropolis because it said it would be more private vs other options we saw. While we were supposed to be a group of 8 based on sign ups, we ended up being a group of 20+ because we had to combine with another group that was unable to go in the morning due to rain. The tour ended up being good thanks to Maria, who was very knowledgeable and did her best to accommodate everyone. However, I was disappointed that we paid for a small group tour and ended up with more than twice the size we were promised. Our tour guide was not the loudest speaker so it was hard to hear at times. And who could blame her when she was expecting 8 people herself. Because of the group size, we weren’t able to get all of the information unless crowded really closely together. Good tour but I’m shocked there’s no company contingency plan for situations where groups get cancelled due to weather, which I assume happens somewhat frequently. If you’re paying for a small group tour, you should get a small group tour.

Alex was amazing, so informative and helpful. Truly knowledgeable about the Acropolis and surrounding area. Would not hesitate to book with him.

Potential good tour but bad tourists.

The tour had 3 families, 2 with teens and 1 with 3 kids ages 7-11 roughly. The tour guide altered the tour to keep the kids entertained, which I would normally appreciate and commend. but the 3 youngsters were very precocious, took it for granted they would be the center of attention and asked a lot of questions that were meant to show off how much they knew already. they even tried to correct her when she referred to someone as a god when they were “really only a demi-god.” The parents were thrilled at the attention their kids were getting and did nothing. They kind of hijacked the tour from the rest of us a bit. there was a point where I thought she had indulged them more than enough and it would have better if she had reoriented the talk to the teens and adults a bit more. Otherwise i liked the tour. She stops at several points on the way up to explain different ruins and let you catch your breath. And she was good at finding shade. The tour ends at the top so you can wander in your own and take photos and head down on your own time.

HIGHLY Recommend

Nikos was a fabulous tour guide. So incredibly aware of people around him, his audience and was super knowledgeable. He also made everyone feel included even though I was traveling by myself. This tour was one of the best I have ever experienced in a place so rich with history. It was even better in the late afternoon to avoid massive crowds and the heat of summer. I would HIGHLY recommend this option.

Excellent visit of the acropolis

I highly recommend this visit. It was done at the right pace and perfect time of the day and we learnt so much!

Avoid midday heat

Michael was very easy to listen to being informative but funny when appropriate. We went on evening tour to avoid crowds and midday heat. Thoroughly recommended.

Great, friendly and...

Great, friendly and knowledgeable tour guide who really explained Athens history and how the structures at the Acropolis were part of that. Definitely less busy to and more enjoyable to do a tour in the afternoon. Highly recommend.

Well worth it!

This was such an informative tour! The afternoon was great because the crowds weren't crazy and it wasn't super hot anymore. Our guide, Alex, was so knowledgeable and answered everyone's questions. The path to the Acropolis is a bit difficult, but it seemed like whenever I felt like I was getting tired, Alex took the group (of only 10 people) to the side to give us more history and information. It made for a much easier hike. We learned so much more by doing a tour than we ever would have if we went on our own. Thank you Alex! Highly recommended!

Fantastic tour and tour guide. Great way to learn about the Acropolis

The tour guide was fantastic. She's knowledgeable about history, archeology and the Acropolis. It was more interesting to listen to learn about the Acropolis by following this tour. The Acropolis wasn't crowded at the time of this tour in May, making the visit pleasant. I highly recommend this tour .

Missed completely

We were so looking forward to this adventure but due to airplanes being delayed at two different airports and transfers missed we never even go to Athens until 12 hours after this booked tour 🙃

Must Do

I am very glad we did this tour, I cannot imagine seeing the Acropolis without the background information provided by our guide. Was a nice small group and the information was well presented. 10-year old was a bit bored (to be expected), and not all of the information was of interest to me either. However, still glad we did it - really brought this historical site to life.

Excellent guided tour of the Acropolis.

Our guide was friendly, knowledgable with a good sense of humor. She did not overwhelm us with facts but instead told stories that gave us a good understanding of the history of the Acropolis.

Interesting memorable worth paying for

The guide Maria was excellent she studied archeology at university and knew her subject. Her English was impeccable and she paced the tour so we could take rests as it was hot even after 5pm. I recommend this tour.

Amazing experience!

I highly recommend the Beat the Crowds Acropolis afternoon tour. Our tour guide was Alex, who is an archaeologist. He was amazing! So knowledgeable and passionate about Athens' history. We were very lucky to be the only 2 people on the tour, so it was our own private tour. I learned so much from the tour, and I liked that Alex focused on the importance of mythology, society and civilization, and how it all culminated in the creation of the Acropolis. It wasn't focused on only pointing out the touristy or photo worthy things. I walked away knowing so much more, and having a deeper appreciation of Greek culture. Alex is a fantastic tour guide and was incredibly engaging to listen to. Highly recommended!

This tour brings the Acropolis to life!

Outstanding! Our guide, Vassia, brought the Acropolis and the temples on it to life! She is a terrific storyteller! We learned some fun Greek mythology and why this beautiful highlight of Athens is so important to understanding much of world history and ancient people. The afternoon tour is ideal for getting some amazing pictures without a lot of people in the background as you can stay for a bit once the tour ends and crowds have thinned out. Our teenagers loved the tour as well - worth every penny to give them a memorable visit to the Acropolis! Plus, you get a fun map with some pictures of the different Gods. Note - we did the museum first which was great to lay the foundation for what we would see. (It’s a beautiful museum!). This tour is the absolute way to go!!

Excellent tour of the Acropolis

A very interesting visit of the Acropolis with our guide. She shared a lot of anecdotes and managed to adapt her style to both parents and children. Our three chidren (aged 10-11-14) were fascinated We were so impressed that we decided to book alternative Athens for another visit straight away !

Best way to see the Acropolis

This was a fantastic way to see the Acropolis! Our guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable. The evening light for pictures was a perfect way to end the tour. I’ve been to the Acropolis on a morning tour and this afternoon tour was far more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

Very good guided visit

Our guide was very good . We and our teens liked the visit. As a group of eleven people, we were surprised to see 4 other people joining the visit. Anyway it was not a problem. In the morning we had visited the Acropolis museum ; it was a good idea to do it before the Site visit.

Very good tour in French

Very good guide with an excellent French who gives clear and interesting information without entering into thousands of details. The tour should clearly indicate that we need to also buy tickets beforehand to avoid everybody to waste time.

Excellent

Magnificent tour that helps you get a very different perspective of how the ancient Greeks viewed the world and how they thought and operated. The guide knew everything about mythology, architecture and history. I was inspired! My favourite part was the mythology behind the history and how the tour guide, Danai, explained the political 'intentions' behind the myths. It made me think of what role the media (i.e. today's myths?) play in politics nowadays.

Great experience to do absolutely!

We loved this visit! This visit made a very big difference for us because otherwise, although the acropolis is magnificent, we don't really understand what we are seeing. However, the guide was very nice and knew the history like the back of her hand. She told us lots of stories and anecdotes, made sure that we felt good throughout the visit and knew how to make this experience very lively - we recommend 100%!

nice trip to the Acropolis

A big thank you to our guide Anastasia, who immersed us in Ancient Greece, with multitudes of explanations and legends. the duration of the visit was perfect, and the climb was easy for all audiences, as well as the initial assembly point near the metro exit . essential to fully understand the Acropolis.

Price for Incomplete Purchase

As the entrance ticket to the acropolis site was not included, it was very complicated to gain access to the site, miraculously our guide was able to buy the ticket for us, otherwise we would not have been able to enter. In short the price you pay is only to book a guide. So plan to buy your entry to the acropolis site before going to meet the guide

Perfect time to enjoy the acropolis, without too many people, and with beautiful light. Wonderful guide, speaking French very well, knowing how to give explanations with a lot of heart and enthusiasm. The site is wonderful. I highly recommend!

Si vous souhaitez visiter l'acropole et comprendre l'histoire de ce lieux, je vous conseille cette visite guidée en Français. Notre guide ANNA était vraiment intéressante. Nous n'avons pas vu les 2h00 de visite passées . Nous étions en petit groupe, il était donc plus facile de suivre toutes les explications. À faire.
