Very well organised tour. We were tra sported from Athens by a nice bus instead of a train , had a stopover where we had lunch and then collected by our lovely & passionate tour guide Clement who was very knowledgeable and made sure we all had the best views, the best photos and the best time. Although it was a long trip from Athens, the experience really made up for the long journey . We also had a great driver Dimitri who made sure we did not miss any cave, any great view. Highly recommended!

The views were amazing and our tour guide was very insightful! Maria was her name and she was very knowledgeable about everything! We ended up not taking a train due to it being closed, but they arranged a bus for us and let us know in advance. Everything was wonderful and Maria was absolutely amazing!!

White glove tour of the monasteries and Kalambaka

Out extremely knowledgeable tour guide Chris gave us the experience of a lifetime. My husband and i traveled with Chris in his comfortable car to monasteries, sunset rock, the village around Kalambaka, the new and old city church while describing rock formations as well as the building of the the monasteries.. My husband wore a therapeutic boot and Chris was supportive and kind for our slower pace. He made certain we saw everything and took our pictures along the way the save the memory.

It is a good choice to travel with Meteora Thrones.

Since there were no trains from Athens to Kalambaka, the office offered to take us by bus from Athens. Although there was a bit of confusion about which bus to take, the bottom line is that we managed to get to Meteora. The bus journey lasted almost 5 hours, during which we stopped once to rest. We were joined in Kalambaka by Clement, who was an excellent tour guide. He explained the history of the monasteries to us in very understandable English and managed our time well. We were able to visit three monasteries in the time we had and stopped several times to take photos of the stunning scenery.

Fabulous and splendid experience

Views were amazing and got chance to experience cloud as it rained in the morning. As a landscape photographer, I shot a lot. I’ve added a few below as it’s perfect location pit stops by Meteora Thrones tours agency. Guide and driver are excellent with best definition of history.

A Trip to Heaven

The view from the top of the Monastries, and from a few view points where they stop is absolutely breath-taking. The Monastries themselves are beautiful and have a charm of its own. No matter how much I describe the beaty of the place it will fall short. Even the photos and video I captured fell short to capture the scale and beauty of the place. To me, it felt like if someone comes to visit Greece to only see Meteora and go back they will not be disappointed of their trip. All this was enhanced by the Meteora thrones guide, by keeping us on time which helped to cover all the places without missing anything, and helped us return on time. As time was very short. If possible I would definetly recommend giving maybe 2 or 3 days to Meteora. The guide was a very nice storyteller, and was super friendly and courteous. I forgot his name to mention here but he mentioned to be from Canada. All in all this is a must have in your itenary if you are visiting Greece.

Trip to Meteora, Kalambaka

We squeezed in a day trip to Meteora by train from Athens and were picked up by The Meteora Thrones travel and tourism in Kalambaka. They were there waiting for us upon our arrival, the bus was very clean and comfortable. Our guide was Clemens he was simply wonderful cannot tell you how impressed we were with his services all through the tour he made it a lot more fun and informative. We managed to visit 3 monasteries and see all 6 monasteries and caves. Highly recommend this tour, booking was very easy. The driver was very patient and drove safely around the mountains and got us back to the train station on time. Great team made our trip very special.

Breathtaking views train to train Meteora tour with phantastic guide

Train to Train trip to Meteora on 20 April 2023 was a wonderful experience. Especially we liked our guide Clement who was facing the group when telling very interesting things about Meteora. Although we had only about 3 hours time to explore Meteora, we did not feel any rush and had enough time to experience beathtaking views of Meteora and to make wonderful photos. Thanks a lot, Clement! We were deeply impressed by your knowledge and the very clear English language for us as non native English speakers.

SCAM (April 2023)

They just didn't meet what it is listed in the website. Instead of 5h the tour lasted less than 3. You don't visit 3 monasteries, but 2, and you don't even see all of them. Never went to see the Hermit caves either. The tour guide was very friendly but didn't really seem to know what he was talking about, and everything was rushed. Granted that the train was delayed by 30min, the tour would still not be close to 5h. The explanation of how the rocks were formed was completely asinine. Totally dishonest company. We wrote to them the day before to ask about the schedule since the train doesn't arrive at the time stated (12:05). They replied that the tour starts later (13:11) but didn't take the opportunity to mention any other changes to the program. Luckily we stayed an extra day, because almost 10 hours on the train in one day is not worth this joke of a tour. We asked for a refund because what is advertised is completely at odds with what is delivered.

Absolutely satisfied

We had an amazing tour to Meteora, visited 2 Monasteries inside too. And special thanks to our guide ‘Tim’ for sharing all of stories and history about Monasteries. We can only suggest this tour to everyone,this place must to see.

Beautiful, very poorly planned

The view was amazing and Meteora it's self is outstanding and an amazing place to visit. However the tour was quite lacking. We was left to ourselves to tour the monasteries. There was very poor planning in terms of how the day was organised. In total including travel the tour was from 7:30am to 11pm they didn't supply any food or real plan a time we could eat. At the end of the tour they gave us 10 mins to eat go to the toilet before setting off to Athens. My partner is allergic to milk so we struggled to find food she could eat in this window. We was slightly over the suggested time and they reacted in a horrible way saying they was about the leave so we was lucky. When asked about where we can find food they just laughed at us and pointed us in a direction.

amazing trip

I'm glad I booked this tour. This can easily be tge highlight of my trip to Greece. Kalambaka is amazing. I'm supposed to use the train to go to Kalambaka, but because trains and railway lines are closed, the company arranged for a big bus to take us from Athens to Kalambaka.

A day Meteora from Athens

good tour guide but missing elementary condition

good root with pleasant guide. BUT the basic thing to drive us in their bus haz a los of cool aircond in a hot day. we had many stops on the way but no cool air at all in the minibus let it be not comfort during all day. this big company with the huge sighn in fron of the main squer of kalambara has no excuse to this falt, so i would not recomend to try them , at least in summer time.

Trip with 2 young children

We had a great time with this tour. Our tour guide greeted us at the Kalambaka train station parking lot. We were grouped with other tourists in a big coach bus. The tour began by taking us to a 20min stop in the Kalambaka town to grab some food. The tour is well organized with photo and monastery stops. The tour ended at Kalambaka train station, about 50 minutes before our scheduled train back to Athens. The company also offers this tour with return train tickets from Athens. It's a little more expensive than booking the train tickets yourself. However, the trainose website is not well organized. I got first class tickets for a family of 4 with 2 young children. 2 days before my trip, the train company emailed me and said I have booked the handicapped seats due to technical difficulty from their part, and they changed my tickets to coach class. I wasn't happy but I wasn't going to fuss about it. But when we were boarding, those coach seats were actually occupied. After some stress and communication, the train conductor put us in empty seats in first class (and some other wonderful passengers volunteered to move their seats so we could sit together with our young children). And similar thing happened on our return train tickets back to Athens. I'm happy that at the end it was resolved. But we are traveling in low season now. I can't imagine what would happen if the train was full in high season. The point of my story is, it might be worth it to book the tour along with the train tickets through a 3rd party who probably would know how to navigate the trainose ticketing website.

great experience and worth a thumb-up recommendation

We had the ''Meteora Highlights - Train to Train Tour'' scheduled on October 21 and would definitely give a big applause to the tour operator. When our train from Athens arrived, the bus was already waiting outside the station without any delays. The tour guide speaks good English and was very cheerful and knowledgeable about the history of this particular area. Under my lack of information about the need for females entering the monasteries to wear an Over-knee skirt, they already equipped several sarongs in the bus to save some bucks for us. All in all, they work well and worth a thumb-up recommendation. It's a pity for us the we didn't have enough time to stay there one night to see all the 6 monasteries, which is one of their many tours programmes that we'd pleasantly join.

The bus was clean. Normal of comfort. The driver was pretty good. Our guide - very funny man. At the bus no wifi as was said on the site.

Spectacular views you cannot miss!!

My sister and had a great time. The tour guide shared great stories, history, and was very interesting. The driver drove safely and slow around the switch backs on the mountain side. They both were very accommodating and made us feel comfortable. They offered three monasteries where we were able to climb stairs up to, just enough to get a feel for the inside but not kill us physically. The rest we viewed to take pictures from a far. It's a very physically challenging tour but if you take it slow it will be well worth it. It can be done if you are not in great shape.

Personal attention and great info

Decided to book with Meteora Thrones thanks to a discount code on their website and am very happy with that decision. Our group was only 5 people (three Americans and couple from Belgium). We felt that compared to other tour groups we saw that had around 10-15 people, we got a much more personal experience. George was an excellent guide who took great care of us and was very engaging as he shared his vast knowledge of the natural and human history, as well as the daily life of the small number of remaining monks and nuns.

Amazing tour

Great experience!

Great guide with a lot of knowledge about the monasteries. Everything was smooth and well planned, with time for breaks and snacks. They also dropped us close to cheap but good eateries, and not some overtly expensive restaurants.

Nice, recommendable tour.

Nice tour. At the moment we are travelling to the destination by coach, as train travel is very limited, if at all. For the coach trips, it can be worthwhile to organise your own entertainment program. The local Kleibus tour was well and quite tightly organised. And although the guide (Canadian - name forgotten, sorry) got some historical facts a bit mixed up, the anecdotes and information presented were interesting and entertaining enough to fill the time between the individual stops. Weather-wise, it couldn't have been better. Sunshine, clear and wide visibility. The day before it was said to have been much worse or hazier/rainier. Overall, a clear recommendation!

Monasterios tocando el cielo.

Maravilloso lugar, los Monasterios parecen estar tocando el cielo. La construcción en aquellos años y en aquel lugar fue todo a mano, un trabajo de muchos años y esfuerzo. Es triste saber que son tan pocos los monjes y monjas que viven allí. Muchos monjes no les gusta ir a METEORA por las tremendas distracciones que son los turistas.

Nuestra guía Christina fue muy profesional. Nos esperó a la salida de la estación del tren con un cartel con mi nombre, exactamente como fue prometido en la descripción del tour. El bus estuvo muy cómodo. Aunque fue compartido con el grupo en Inglés, no hubo ningún problema en entender y/o escuchar a Christina quien domina el idioma Español casi casi a la perfección. La información brindada fue muy interesante y precisa. Christina siempre estuvo dispuesta a responder cualquier pregunta. El tiempo visitando el lugar es más que suficiente para visitar 3 de los Monasterios y tomar las respectivas fotos. Eso sí, hay que ir preparado para subir y bajar escalones para poder llegar a la entrada de los 2 primeros Monasterios. Un ejercicio intenso que al final valió la pena. Antes de llegar al 3er Monasterio fuimos llevados a un punto a admirar vistas panorámicas espectaculares. El tour termina en la estación del tren donde tuvimos tiempo suficiente para comprar algún refrigerio o souvenir del lugar antes de enrumbarnos hacia Atenas. En conclusión, quedamos muy satisfechos y contentos con Meteora, el servicio y nuestra guía. Los recomiendo!
