Athens 4-Hour Cooking Class with Central Market Visit

Fantastic fun time! Loved it!

Learned lots about Greek flavours and foods. Very good teacher who loved his work and shared lots of local knowledge. We ate like kings at the end! Highly recommended!

Great cooking class.

Excellent cooking class . Made 4 dishes and enjoyed all at a sit down lunch at the conclusion of the class. This was our second class and just as good as the first. I particularly liked the history of the foods we were making. Instructor very knowledgeable.

Ya mas! Fun cooking with friends and family

On our last day in Athens, our group of 8 family and friends were looking for something fun to do before our 5p flight home. This class was perfect! Vasia took us on a tour of the local market explaining what and who we were seeing then taught us how to cook several traditional Greek dishes. Hands on fun and a delicious lunch. Looking forward to repeating the recipes at home. Great way to end our trip. Ya mas!

Great food and a great time!

We had a wonderful time during our cooking class! Due to very high temps, we weren't able to go to the market, but the rest of the class was so much fun. Our teacher was enthusiastic, funny, and informative of the history behind the dishes we were cooking. Highly recommend!

Fun experience

The class was fun, informative, and personal. We enjoyed cooking and tasting new foods and learning new techniques, not to mention the walk through the market! The food was delicious and our hosts were lovely, kind, helpful and knowledgeable.

Best Cooking Class I've Done Abroad

I've done 2 other cooking classes abroad and this one was my favorite experience so far! Our instructor Despina was accommodating, clear, humorous, inclusive, and a great teacher! Even as a solo traveler in the group, she catered to everyone present. The feast at the end of more than enough, the wine and water kept flowing, and so did the laughter. Very well put together! Worth every cent!

Fresh Athens local food:-)

This was such a fun morning! We went to the local meat market, then visited the vegetable and fruit markets. Our group had so much fun cooking local fresh dishes! Vasia was fun, entertaining and a delight to work with. I highly recommend this experience!

Amazing Experience Fabulous Food

This experience was amazing!! Vasia was amazing, friendly, funny and extremely informative about Greek cooking and best food selections. The way she ran the class was seamless and everyone was participating!! All of our dishes were delicious! Wonderful Greek cuisine! Her cooking studio was spotless and delightfully air conditioned!! It was 100 degrees F the day we took our class! She also kept the wine flowing for the whole entire class!!

Super fun class that makes tasty food. Glad I did it. The home cook leading it was funny and educational. We didn't get to go to the market due to extreme heat so it didn't take as long

Awesome cooking class!

Our chef was excellent, he kept everyone engaged and participating. Small group so lots of attention for everyone. We had 10 in our cooking class. He started off by welcoming everyone and having each of us introduce ourselves, where we are from and a highlight so far on our trips. Chef also talked about the area produce and a bit of history. The food we made was step by step, nothing complicated. Oh so delicious! What a feast at the end and topped off with local wine! I would recommend this tour! Éxochos——Excellent!

Great Way to Celebrate My Birthday

We had such a wonderful time throughout this whole activity. Our host was so knowledgeable about the food, the market, and the creation of our meal. She provided interesting information about the culture, region, and creation of traditional Greek food and life. We had a great walk through the marketplace. Back in the kitchen, she provided excellent guidance when creating our food. We never felt left out nor incompetent when learning how to prepare the traditional dishes for our session. The fresh ingredients, some which we got while at the marketplace, were so delicious! Our host was delightful and had a great sense of humor. It was my birthday and she made me feel so special - even putting a candle on my dessert and leading the group in singing happy birthday to me. I would do this activity again and again because I loved it so much!

We had so much fun! Vasia was great. Taught us so much with a great sense of humor and included us in everything. One of the best things we did in Athens. 5 stars - highly recommend!

Great experience

I went to the cooking class with my 10 year old grand-daughter. The chef was very knowledgable but what was really exceptionnal was the way he took the time to include my grand-daughter in the cooking experience. We both enjoyed it very much. Thank you.

Such an amazing experience! We cooked 5 dishes, learned cooking techniques and some history of Greece, then got to eat everything! The instructor was amazing, definitely recommend!

Lovely cooking experience

I am a vegetarian. The class was a lovely and informative experience. I got to make a vegetarian version of the meat dish we were making. The food was very tasty.

Great afternoon cooking greek food in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Me and my husband are gluten free and the menu was adapted for us. There was a lot of food cooked and we went home with some leftovers.. Wine was pouring, music was blasting and we also learnt things about the market and general greek culture. It was great!

Traditional Greek food - Yum!

After visiting the central market, Despina guided us in making several traditional dishes for our meal. Along the way, she gave us tips and talked about anything Greek! The food was delicious, the company was great and Despina was a wonderful teacher!

My favorite activity in Athens!

Most everyone comes to Athens for the Acropolis but to skip this excursion would be a loss! The whole experience around this cooking class was fantastic! From the trip to the oldest market in Athens to the camaraderie in the classroom (not to mention the lessons in Greek culinary cuisine) this is a booking I would recommend wholeheartedly!

My friend and I had an excellent experience cooking some of the most iconic dishes in this class and also learnt a bit of history of the Athens Central Market. Highly recommended.

Vasia is amazing! I want her to have a YouTube channel to watch her cook and interact with students! Even if you have zero skills, come take this class. You tour the markets and learn how the locals shop. Then as a class everyone contributed to making 5 different things. Come as a group or solo, Vasia makes it so welcoming for everyone.

Best cooking class

Incredible! Our teacher was very funny and friendly and the food tasted AMAZING. He taught us many important things like what's considered a little bit of olive oil in greek cooking.

A fun, informative and delicious lesson!

We had a terrific time in this cooking class were we first had an excellent tour of the adjacent market followed be preparing a full course lunch. Our leader was superb. I am embarrassed that I think I am misspelling her name because she spelled it for me several times, but my memory is so poor. I think it’s Vardi or Vasili. She was excellent. She did a fantastic job and we had so much fun, learned some great things and enjoyed an absolutely delicious meal.

Awesome Introduction into Greek cooking!

My husband and I a wonderful cooking class yesterday with Dispina ( I'm sorry if that is spelt wrong). We first had a very interesting and informative tour of the market, followed by a fun and interactive class. Dispina was an amazing teacher and made sure to get everyone involved in the cooking. I would highly recommend this class to anyone interested in Greek food. I would definitely check it out again when back in Athens! Mary and Karl from NZ!!! 😃

Our chef was amazing; friendly, funny and very knowledgeable. She brought us to the Grand markets to point out various foods some of which we used for the 5 dishes we made. And, no need to try to scramble to scribble recipes as you go as they are all on the Greek Kithen web site. Highly recommend this educational and tasty experience. Many thanks!

Good eating with Greek Kitchen

The food was delicious! The instructor was a comedian and kept things moving and funny while providing great information. The helpers had everything ready to go and the class proceeded on time. It ended with a shot of Mastiha for digestion! There was even food to take home. Tripadvisor’s receipt was insufficient. It did not list the time or location. I had to look up the Greek Kitchen and go to their website for essential information.

Authentic, Hands On Cooking Experience

This was the perfect way to kick off our stay in Athens - the staff were so friendly (especially Vasia and Antonia!) they kept us laughing and smiling the whole time. The quality of the food was amazing and everyone got to participate and contribute to the meal in someway. We made spanakopita and orange pie and we tried ordering it at restaurants later in our trip but they paled in comparison to the ones we made in this class! The 4 hours went by too quickly, I could have stayed there all day :)

Lots of fun & informative

Wonderful experience. So glad we did this. Vasia was so much fun and gave a detailed introduction to Greek cuisine. It’s a great communal experience as we met some lovely people in the class. Highly recommended!

I'm so glad we dis this class. So fun!!

This was such a fun class. We found the studio easily with Google maps. We're greeted by the staff. Once all there,we did a tour of the markets, which was a culinary person's delight. Back to the studo after Vasia, who is very popular there, purchased a few items we needed for or class. The items we prepared ourselves and cooked were amazingly good and simple enough to make you want to prepare at home. I can't say enough about Vasia, our chef. She was funny, fun, and very thorough and allowed us to prep everything. The whole group had so much fun, oh, and plenty of wine!!!

Overall good experience, just some minor criticism

Overall I enjoyed the experience and am glad I went. We made a bunch of different traditional Greek plates and learned general kitchen tips/techniques. I'm not sure of the chef who taught our class, but I found him to be a tad standoffish and thought he could have explain/presented things better. We went to the Athen's market for some ingredients and strawberries to pick at. We spent quite some time in the fresh meat/seafood sections, which made me quite nauseous (I'm sure I wasn't alone), I do wish the chef paid more attention to the fact that other cultures may be sensitive to raw and dead animals. Regardless, the food was delicious and we were able to take home leftovers. Plus we got plenty of wine while cooking and tasting.

Recommend

The market tour was a bit of a whirlwind, and I would’ve appreciated a more leisurely pace so that I could explore the stalls. However, given the work that awaited us in the kitchen, I understand why we moved the way we did. The cooking class was well-structured, with each participant owning prep of a single ingredient for each dish. We created a multi-course meal, comprised of TRUE tzatziki, dolmades, spanakopita, İmam bayıldı (a new fave!), and portokalopita. I’m salivating just thinking about that orange pie, and I’m planning to make the İmam bayıldı at home. We also sampled an interesting Greek liqueur that I’ll never forget. I left full and satisfied. Many thanks to our teacher, Chef Thanasis. His knowledge, pride, and passion for his history and culture shined through.

The teacher is amazing and funny. He's like a cousin that you never met that takes you under his wing and teaches you all you need to know about the mother-country,

Fabulous!!!

What a fabulous experience we had with Thanos learning great recipes , cooking and eating the most delicious meal of our time in Athens!!! We loved that Thanos also shared about his family and growing up in Greece! Would give this 6 stars if possible!!! Thanos was amazing!!!🥰🙌
