Ancient Sparta Ancient Corinth Private Tour from Athens/ Nafplio

An excellent, comfortable, interesting tour that exceeded our expectations.

Our driver, Christos, made this 10 hour tour fabulous. He was an excellent, punctual, experienced driver and included pamphlets and history videos for us to watch while driving in an air-conditioned car. He pointed out sites along the way, and followed our wishes for specific sites and timing. He picked us up at our hotel in Piraeus and drove to the Corinth Canal, Sparta, and Mystras. We saw various ruins, green mountains and valleys, orange trees and olive groves, the interesting olive oil museum and tasting, took us to a fortress and monastery on the hill which we hiked down from, etc. The tour was the best and just what we wanted. Thank you!

This is definitely a destination you'll want to make time for. Getting there is a long haul from Athens, but it's too awesome to skip! We enjoyed our tour of Sparta and the surrounding areas with Christos as our guide. The ride was comfortable, and he readily accommodated our requests for restroom breaks at clean facilities. Christos shared his deep knowledge of Sparta, its history, and its significance in Greek culture and history. The tour was at a comfortable pace, so we never felt rushed. He expressed genuine care for our overall experience in Sparta. The ruins in the heart of Sparta were better than other similar sites because visitors are allowed to walk among them so they can feel connected to the past, unlike other ruins where you can only look at them from afar. As a side note, while most places take credit cards/tap-to-pay, bring euros to support the local economy. Christos also made sure that we had maps and printed guides to take with us as mementos of our adventure. We had a great time on our trip!

Sparta!

Having been fascinated by Sparta since I was a kid I made this trip last Summer and it was very interesting. I recommend it to all those who want to deepen the myth of Sparta. A special thank to my guide/driver, Christos, who was very attentive to all my needs. Kudos!

Thank you so much for this awesome tour. I'll be honest: we were a bit worried that the road would be long and difficult as we were supposed to drive through the mountains. However, the road was beautiful due to the fact that a new road on the Peloponnese peninsula was recently built. All the way there and back we did not feel any discomfort. Our driver provided us with the necessary information about the places we would visit. The tour itself is intense (in a good sense of course), as there are many stops besides Sparta, so our day was full. We also made a few extra stops that were not part of the tour since the time allowed us. In particular, we visited the town of Mystros, 6 kilometers from Sparta. If you have the opportunity to go there, we definitely recommend it! Our driver, Christos, was very nice and helpful. We are grateful for this experience and glad we made it!

Μολὼν λαβέ - Having come, take them!

My wife & I recently spent 5 days in Athens & having read a few books about the rise & fall of the Spartans, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to visit Laconia to tread in the footsteps of Agesilaus II, Cleomenes I & of course, Leonidas I, whilst looking upon Mt Taygetus & Mt Parnon. Our guide & chauffeur for the day was Nikolaos who was very pleasant. His vehicle was clean, spacious and comfortable. His knowledge and insights were great especially that he was a descendant of Sparta too. He also kept us topped up with ice coffees which was most appreciated. During the longer parts of the drive Nik put on a documentary about Sparta for us to watch on our journey towards Sparta which my wife found very interesting as she had no prior knowledge of the area & the people in ancient times. He then put on a similar one about Corinth on our journey back there. Initially visited the canal at Corinth before pushing on to Sparti. Took in the archaeological museum, tomb of Leonidas I, Acropolis & ancient theatre & the Leonidas I monument. Unfortunately for us they were carrying out work on the monument so only saw his foot haha. Following a spot of lunch & another iced coffee we headed towards Ancient Corinth. An impressive archaeological site in the shadow of the Acrocorinth, covering a vast area with a museum included too. On our return to Athens, we stopped to look at the Corinth canal from the Saronic Gulf side as we had earlier been at the Gulf of Corinth end. The whole day was around 10 hours but didn't feel like it. On the longer parts of the drive it was good to take in the landscape and views. I hadn't realised how mountainous Greece was. We thoroughly enjoyed this trip, even my wife who was less than enthusiastic when I originally booked it so a big thumbs up from us. Thank you Nikolaos & Greece Taxi.

Sparta and Corinth tour review

It was a fantastic tour. Country side and ancient ruins were very scenic. It was an all day trip and absolutely worth it.

The Highlight of my trip to Greece

Had Christos as out driver for the day and could not have enjoyed the better any better. Christos went above and beyond with the day trip to Sparta and everything on the way. He was very knowledgeable and made everything for my husband and I to feel welcomed in his home country. The lunch stop at "the Castle" restaurant was very delightful and romantic. We had some deviation of schedule to visit myceanea was the absolute highlight of my trip to Greece. Thank you Christos for making our day extra especial.

Non-guided Sparta Corinth tour

Really enjoyed our tour. Sparta ruins small but not crowded The olive museum was interesting. We Should have allowed more time for ancient Corinth as it was very interesting. Asked for a guide but none available last minute. Our driver was very nice, great driver and answered questions but would have been nice to have SOME history and background other than what we read ourselves. Definitely recommend getting a guide

THIS IS PROFESSIONAL!…I MEAN SPARTA!

I have taken many trips and tours world wide and Ancient Sparta/Ancient Corinth was the most enriching, professional and enjoyable. My tour guide Christos was a complete gentleman, had a great heart, empathetic/caring, and made this trip/tour that much more enriching. We had time to go to the spartan gift shop in sparti and the quality was the best as far as souvenirs go in Athens as you can see the quality and love put into them. Shortly after we saw breathtaking views at ancient Corinth and then stopped for fun at olive oil tasting and superb other items they had like bitter orange, olive soap, sour cherries, and several other top grade products you just can’t find back in the states. It was obvious from the beginning Christos puts his clients as top priority. I developed a better understanding of Sparta, (Sparti as of today) the culture, the breathtaking views there as well as the journey driving through the countryside, the local ingredients harvested in the countryside/mountains of Athena and of course received a better idea how it was back then. If you have an affinity for culture and scenic views you can’t go wrong. I would highly recommend this to anyone who appreciates culture and to really put themselves in a lovely, humble, yet enriching environment. It’s not glitzy or eye catching as rome or other areas I have seen….but honestly you have to really appreciate the aforementioned to really not get caught up on that. I would go here before other tours/site seeing because I gained so much more and got a perspective I never had in other “tourist traps of the world.” There’s something to be said about a modest culture with breath taking views and history. I’ll take this anyday over flashy areas of the world I have been due to the simple fact I grew from start to finish as a person and am more appreciative of Greek people/history as a whole. Without question I can’t say that with other areas and places I have been. Highly advised. Best private tour guide and new friend thanks Christos.

The BEST, The BEST, The BEST!!!

Our driver, Takis, was absolutely PHENOMENAL!!! From the moment he picked us up at our Athens hotel, he began telling us the rich history of his country and how it related to everything we were seeing around us.. And it wasn't just the archaeological sites. Takis discussed the culture, the land, and the people, allowing us to experience the same love and passion he has for Greece. The highlight of the day was stopping at a tiny fruit stand along a country road to Sparta to buy fresh cherries from a local farmer. They were delicious! By lunchtime, we were sitting with Takis for lunch at a small cafe overlooking the Temple of Apollo in ancient Corinth wanting to share more time with our new friend. Takis is THE BEST tour operator you can find and more importantly, an awesome person. We HIGHLY recommend Takis and any business he works at. Mr. James and Miss Kim will always remember this trip and Takis!!

Skip Sparta-nothing to see!

I am rating this only 2 stars because Sparta was a complete waste of time—there is almost nothing to see, and the Olive Museum there was CLOSED the day we toured, which the tour company should have known! Our diver was fine and very nice, this was not his fault, but we spent hours driving to/from Sparta for nothing.

Disappointed with the private tour

We booked a private tour and thought there was a guide and driver. Instead only the driver and he spoke little English. He did not share much about the sites and we had to pay all the entrance fees ourselves and it was an unguided tour. He left us to visit the site ourselves without any introduction or helped to take photos (except in front of the Leoniadas statue). Sparta was a quiet town and ancient Corinth was fantastic if we had a guide to tell us more. We could only do with the limited English signboard and descriptors. We are fortunate the traffic on return journey back to Athens was not jamed.

Worthwhile trip

Saw the sights close up, got to walk the castle steps, friendly museum staff. Managed time to allow for eating.

Siimple story

The story is very simple. School lessons make you fall in love with Greece of the past centuries - the cradle of world culture and traditions. But more importantly, the people. It is they who create the mood and impression of what you see. We didn't get bored on the road - in very decent English, Makis talked about the country and people, about the past and the present. Thank you, Makis, we saw Sparta as it was, is and will be.

The most amazing tour, full of information and the important sites that we wanted to visit, a MUST DO

The only thing that I can say about this tour is that it was absolutely amazing and our tour guide Philip was not only professional, but very knowledgeable, kind and polite. As a travel professional, I know the importance of customer service and care and has mastered both qualities wonderfully. He is definitely a wonderful addition to the Greece Taxi company. The sights were amazing and hands down thee BEST tour I have ever taken. I have already shared this tour with several clients I have traveling there.

Off season Sparta!

Ancient Sparta was absolutely amazing, and we think the off season made it so much better! We were able to go our own pace and Cristos was very flexible and great to talk with about everything and anything!

Fantastic Trip to Sparta

This is overall a fantastic trip. We departed in the morning from Athens, went to see the magnificent Corinth Canal first. Then headed straight to Sparta to see the archeological sites and museums there. We also visited Corinth as the last stop. The driver was really patient and responsible. Safe and comfortable driving was offered along with thorough guide. He also patiently waited for me and helped take pictures for me. This trip includes basically all important sites in Sparta. So if you are interested in Sparta as an important ancient polis, this trip is highly recommended.

Amazing time visiting Sparta

At the request of my children, we took a day trip to Sparta and Mystras. I was a little apprehensive about spending all day in a car but when we met our driver, Philippe Christodoulopoulod, I knew it was going to be a fantastic trip. Phillip was friendly, and extremely knowledgeable about Ancient Greece. He was able to educate us on topics ranging from ancient Grecian civilization (art, history, culture, politics) to modern concerns facing Athens. His English was superb and there seemed to be no topic off limits (which kept the kids engaged for the journey). Mystras was unbelievably. You are allowed to stroll through the ruins, unguided, and mostly unencumbered by “do not enter” signs. It is hard to describe the feeling one gets when allowed to get that close to history. If you have the chance I highly recommend this trip.

Sparta/Mystras day trip

This was truly an amazing trip. Our driver Philippe Christodoulopoulod was fantastic. He was extremely knowledgeable about Greek history, philosophy, society, politics, and just about any subject you could think of. The ruins of Mystras was stunning and we were encouraged by Philippe to take all the time we needed to fully enjoy the site. I would recommend this trip to anyone Thinking about a vacation in Greece.

A Great Trip to Sparta!

I wanted to see more of Greece than just Athens and took the full day Sparta/Acropolis tour. My guide, Cristos, set the standard for all other tour guides. He is highly competent, extremely knowledgeable and very helpful. He never tired of answering my questions. In addition to sites from ancient Sparta, we stopped at the Corinth Canal, byzantine fortresses and even though it was a long day, Cristos stopped at a few of his favorite places in Athens to allow me to get some photographs that I would not ordinarily have a chance to get including some great locations for pictures of the Acropolis. As mentioned, it is a long day, but Cristos makes the logistics work easily and is an excellent, excellent driver as well. At the end of the trip my wallet fell out of my pocket....which could have been a real problem. I was hardly back in my room before Cristos was in contact with me and returned it. This is a wonderful way to spend a day outside of Athens. I wholeheartedly recommend this tour and I absolutely recommend Cristos!!

Sparta/Mystras

We had a great day trip to Sparta and Mystras. Nikolaos our driver was fantastic and had lots of knowledge about the area. It was great being left at the sites to explore in our own time. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to visit Sparta from Athens. Thankyou.

Long day but worth it!

Philippe was an impeccable driver with a charismatic personality. He was on time and made sure we were comfortable. One of our family members is currently expecting a baby and he made stops when she needed to use the restroom. He showed a genuine interest in Greek culture but also in other cultures. On the tour, we had ample time to hike Mystras & explore Sparta. Phillipe arranged for us to stop by the olive oil museum where we had a complimentary tasting and met a wonderful host named Marianna! We were very excited to support a local family business. The only thing we would change is having more free time in Sparta but this was not possible, as Mystra was quite a long hike. Thank you Philippe for everything!

Sparta / Mystra tour…a day we’ll spent.

Cristos was a fantastic tour guide, driver, and after ten hours of letting me ask endless questions a new friend. He allowed me to take tour at my own pace and see and do the things that I wanted to do along the way. I was able to walk where the Spartans trained and visit a castle that predated Christ by 700 years, amongst other things. The guide spoke English well and had a ton of knowledge. I’d recommend the tour and Cristos 10/10.

Great historical review of Sparta area

Philippe was an excellent host for our trip. Very knowledgeable, providing the history of the area and working some magic to ensure we saw all the sights we hoped to!

Sparta

Our driver Petros was excellent. It is a 3 hr drive to Sparta 1 way. At total drive time of 6 hrs leaving only 4 hrs to visit Bridge, Museum, Acropolis, statue of Leonidas, Mystras Castle, Olive museum and have lunch. We missed visiting the Castle which we really wanted to see. MIssing the Olive museum was not a problem. If I had to do it again, I would have gone to the Castle when we first arrived in Sparta, then the Museum, etc. Petros took us to a great restaurant for lunch and had plenty of bottled water for us.

Incredible experience

When I was organizing my trip from Spain, I saw this tour on TripAdvisor. We chose the second option of oago, in which by dividing the payment in two (one when booking and the other at the end of the tour), we saved almost 70 euros. Our driver, Nikolaos, was very kind to us, and very patient in explaining the historical context, as our English is not very good. We really enjoyed the experience, we highly recommend it.

Sparta, Olive Oil and Corinth trip

Christos was our guide and he was great and no pressure to move on. We saw a lot in one day but all very interesting and fun to see.

Sparta

Used a private driver from Athens. He was awesome and told us about the history. Also, has videos he plays on drive to destination. Keep in mind that the museums will close a day per week and you nay not be able to go but our driver brought us to other areas to make up for it.

Absolutely breath taking

Our guide Petros Karapetros was amazing and so informative. He took his time explained everything. He made our trip worthwhile and a once in a live time experience. He made my dream of visiting Sparti come true! I am so thankful for him and his dedication! 10 out of 10 all the way!!!!!!

Amazing Day Trip!

My wife and I had an amazing time on this trip! Mystras was hands down the best part of the trip! Christos was amazing and gave us a lot of information! Will definitely be recommending this trip to our friends! Christos picked us up and dropped us off right next to our hotel. It was very convenient!

Sparta/Acropolis & Medieval Mystras private tour from Athens

Phenomenal trip to the Peloponnese. While ancient Sparta is basically gone, you can still see some small ruins at the local archeological park (free entry) which gives you a good view of the ancient theater, modern city, and nearby mountains. Similarly, the museum in Sparta is limited but still has some terrific pieces to go see. Mystras is the real jewel of this tour, spectacular views from the top of the medieval fortress town. You'll also enjoy walking through all kinds of ruins, gatehouses, old churches, etc. Do be prepared for a hike though since the entire site is on the slope of a mountain.

Awesome sight seeing tour. Make sure you are prepared to hike if going to Mysteros. Would do again! Our tour guide was on time but let us take our time at the sights and made it a great experience.

A tour trip to Sparta and Corinth

We experienced a great day with our tour guide Nikolaus. 1. He advised before we decided to go at the sites 2. Our time was limited, since we had to come back to Athens before 16.30 but Nikolaus still managed to show us around including a complete tour in Sparta and the acropolis, had a stop at the Corinth canal and visited the acropolis, museum of Corinth before he escorted us to a place which was very near to Athens Acropolis where we missed the visit during Christmas days 3. Nikolaus had a great understanding about the region and calculated the trip and the visit accurately 4. We had no complains whatsoever with the trip itself, and we were just hoping to stay another day in Greece.

Great Trip

We received exactly what we expected, plus more. We were able to "trade" one stop for another not on the itinerary. And our lunch stop was great! All in all, I would recommend this tour to anybody looking to get out of Athens for a day.

Greece Explored

Our tour was amazing! We had our private driver Spiros take us to Corinth Canal, Sparti, and Mystras with some surprises along the way. Spiros was so professional and friendly. So happy to experience this beautiful part of Greece!

Amazing Greek Adventure

We wanted to take some time to thank Greece Taxi for a wonderful excursion to Sparta and Mystras. This was our family’s first time in Greece and we were only able to choose one excursion with the time that we had available. We clearly chose correctly. The day started off with Nasos (our driver and guide) picking us up and treating us to coffee and a “Greek Breakfast.” On our trip to Sparta, we stopped at the Corinth Canal, which was truly amazing. All during the drive, Nasos told us all about not just the history of Greece and the people, but about modern life as well. He related to us as adults and also to our two younger sons. We had amazing weather and the tour through Sparta and the Acropolis there was beautiful. The highlight, however, was our walk through Mystras, which proved to be one of the best experiences that we had. We would highly recommend this excursion, and specifically Greece Taxi. It was the friendliness and professionalism, especially that of Nasos, which contributed to a wonderful trip and vacation. Our family would first look to use Greece Taxi again on future trips and highly recommend them to anyone else looking for a great Greek adventure.
