4-Day Classical Greece Tour: Epidaurus, Mycenae, Olympia, Delphi, Meteora

Very interesting tour

We visited these outstanding historical sites with a very knowledgeable, cheerful and enthusiastic guide (Nancy) who explained a lot about the relevant mythology and historical background as well as greek culture and traditions. The group of about 25 of us weren't rushed and had some free time at most sites with clear instructions about departure times, meeting points etc. Everything ran to time with our driver Nikos and we went to most places in the first part of the day followed by a lunch stop and then a drive to the hotel with one or two extra stops. On the 3rd & 4th days we were joined by about 15 extra people doing a 2 day tour but they missed out Olympia, epidauros and mycaenae. The 3 hotels were clean and well appointed (Delphi had the best location, views and time to walk around the small town). There was plenty food for evening buffet and breakfast. Our bags were delivered to our room from the coach each day and then reloaded for us. The lunch stops were, I thought, relatively overpriced group tour venues with several groups arriving at once, but getting everyone fed and back on the road within 1 hour is difficult to do any other way. Early June was very hot with temperatures up to 36C but our guide always found shady spots and the wireless headsets meant we could all hear clearly, especially in the indoor museum sessions when synchronising with other groups. There was a moderate amount of walking at each site and some climbing up & down uneven steps but nothing strenuous. Overall, a very interesting, well organised tour of these world famous sites covering a lot of ground with several hours of daily coach rides. Well worth the money and we met interesting people in the group from all around the world. Some may find spring or autumn weather more comfortable.

We saw more and learned more in four days than we ever knew before.

Our driver, guide and the porters. The hotel accomodations and meals were basic, but wonderful with a great selection. The skill of our driver was important to the success of this trip. The knowledge and interpretation by our guide was genuinely entertaining. We listened and learned.

Great land tour.

We saw most historic sites in Greek history. Greek Gods were explained relative to what we saw. Accomations were very comfortable as was the bus. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and passionate, but her English was sometimes hard to understand.

Great value tour.

This tour was excellent value with everything included except lunch. The hotels chosen were very comfortable, with large rooms and great variety of food at the buffet dinners and breakfasts The places visited and the time spent at each place were well planned and gave an excellent overview of classical Greece. Congratulations must go to Joy, our guide, who had an exceptional knowledge of the archaeological sites visited, and who ensured that every detail of the tour was executed perfectly. FANATASTIC 4-Day Trip to Epidaurus, Mycenae, Olympia, Delphi and Meteora

My friend, Rosemary, and I LOVED this trip and how we got to learn so much more about Greece, it's history and people. The start of the trip was a bit rocky, as I had not seen the email that was sent about a change in the pickup time so we were not ready when they came to get us and our hotel elevator was NOT working and since I had injured my left t-band muscle before this trip was NOT able to "rush" nor carry our stuff down the stairs. The lady left w/o waiting for us but our hotel host, Tarsos, called us a taxi and we caught up with the group there. Joy, Nikkos and those on our trip were so VERY helpful in getting around to all the sites we went to - especially the steep places and stairs. Was glad that I was able to "keep up" with the group mostly and on a few things did not attempt to strain that muscle more. However, my muscle got better every day and was able get around w/o as much help. We were ESPECAILLY grateful for them dropping us at the bus station in Meteora so we could make our stop in Thessaloniki that without losing our reservation. We liked the food at the Amalia Hotels and the choices for my gf and her vegan diets. The only place for lunch that I changed was our last stop in Meteora because we kept getting switched around tables and I went up the block and ate at another restaurant. Again, thank you Joy and Nikkos for making our trip west of Athens a lovely experience and we might even take this trip again if we get a chance to come back to Greece.

Great value

Great value for a four day look at top historical sites outside Athens. Definitely recommend. Hotel food not so great but the sites are amazing. Nice bus, good guide. Very enjoyable.

UNESCO Visits

Each UNESCO site was wonderful. The driver and tour director were exceptional. The dinner buffets at each restaurant were just ok. But I understand that was necessary for big groups. It’s unfortunate you can’t do group dinners at a restaurant nearby for the in town hotels, which was only one night … just to switch it up.

Very great tour

We learn a lot from Greek people and Ancient monument and history temple amphitheater and meteoras my guide was Very competent about all this thing. Thank you very much I recommand this tour

4 of the best days we spent!!!

Foteni (guide) and George (driver) were absolutely amazing! We had weather issues at Meteora and entry limitations to Mycenae and the stadium at Delphi, but they were able to adapt and show us other amazing sites that were equally historical and amazing. If you get the pleasure of touring with Foteni then you will absolutely enjoy yourself and George only has one year left before he retires, but is a true master of the roads for safety and capability.

Wondeful time on this trip

Old mythes, Zeus and family in history lessons about 50 years ago, ..it became vivid. Such a great trip, guide, driver, sites, landscape, hotels, it was really so wonderful!

Great guide and driver

Our guide Nancy was absolutely amazing; she was enthusiastic and very very knowledgeable, ensuring we understood everything about the areas and the sites we saw. She was incredibly friendly as well and answered all our questions in a detailed, patient manner. Our driver Nikos kept us safe throughout and drove us throw some tough spots very skilfully. However, without those two, this tour would have been a very average experience as time could have been managed more efficiently on the tour and it was not organised to it's full potential. Furthermore, food options lacked variety, especially for vegetarians.

Mainland Tour

Mother Nature gave us the sun throughout this tour, had a super informative guide that was easy to understand and covered all bases, was surprised about the charge for the hotel VATS since it was double from what was advertised. However, the hotel porter service made up for this ding. Outstanding Bus Driver. Not quite done with this Tour but expect no issues other then what this review mentions

The Best Experience of our 3 week trip

This was THE BEST tour that I have ever been on. Xenia our guide was more like a superstar professor who took us on a breathtaking 4 day journey through ancient Greece keeping us all engaged, informed and wanting more. It is a tough challenge to do that over 4 days but words do not do justice to her work. She even took the time to advice my daughter on future study options in Greece. The locations are well maintained and so much of history there to absorb. I cannot describe how awesome each one was. Babis our driver with his ever present grin and the occasional wink and his awesome driving were fantastic. We reached everywhere on time and we left on time as well. The tour is extremely well planned. I was apprehensive of the Amalia hotel after reading reviews here but i found them quite comfortable. The blessing was that they had free porter service so your luggage reaches your room from the bus when you check in and it's picked up when you're checking out. When you have to check in and check out each day this is such a life saver. The food was quite good but repetitive and I can understand it because Amalia caters to your business so you have folks of all nationality and food habits there. Plus the comfort is that the food is safe and healthy so you're not going to struggle during a 4 day bus journey All in all, we really want to do it again. My wife and two daughters (a teen and a tween) enjoyed it so much. Thank you, Xenia, Babis and Chat tours!

Great trip

Our group of 14 toured with Antony (guide) and Nikos (driver). The tour itself is great; you’re in the bus a long time, but the sites are amazing and the hotels were top-notch. Most important however, was the professionalism and skill of both Nikos and Antony. They were the best! Efcharistó!

This guided tour provided...

This guided tour provided a convenient and effortless way to see the major sites of Mainland Greece. The organization, iitinerary and hotel facilities were excellent .Filio, our wonderful guide, brought to life the history and myths of each site. She was not only articulate and knowledgeable but also considerate and kind. Special efforts by her ensured that a forgotten jacket and sunglasses were returned to us. Giorgo’s skillful driving kept us moving along safely and on time - A wonderful tour company that we would highly recommend !

The highlight of our time in Greece

It was truly a terrific tour. We saw some marvellous places with a guide who was informative, charming and passionate about the places we visited. We learned a lot, stayed in very nice hotels, ate well and discovered so much about Greece and its history. Recommended without reservation.

Good trip but poor hotels

Congratulations for the guide and the driver. But disappointment for the hotels at Nafplio and at Meteora with tired equipment

Wonderful way to see many far-flung places

Joy was a fantastic guide and our driver, Niklos, was wonderful. Highly recommend seeing the Peloponnese. I loved seeing the sights I've read and learned about for years. As a bonus, we happened to be in Olympia the day they lit the torch for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Great itinerary, well balanced with activities and breaks from the bus. Appreciated that nearly everything except lunches and tips were included (guide, driver, hotels, breakfasts and dinners, entry tickets, etc), which allowed us to focus on enjoying the sights instead of logistics. Surprised the tour was bilingual, as this was nowhere in the tour description on Viator. Our guide did a nice job of balancing the information in English and French, though we'd have preferred an all English tour. Hotels seemed more standard or tourist class to us, not the first class that was described.

Amazing trip to wonderful locations!

Excellent 4 day tour! Everything was very well organized. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided detailed commentary during visits to the archeological sites. Our bus was very comfortable and the driver excellent. All accommodations and meals were good. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

The tour is well planned and organized. Our tour guide, Dimitrios, has brought the Greek history and myths to life with his knowledge and story telling. The hotel Amalia chain is good as well. Really enjoyed the tour.

Insightful Greek History Tour with Regrettable Guide Experience

This meticulously organized journey encompassed all the significant historical sites. After extensive research and reviewing numerous tour options, we found this one to be truly worthwhile. Greece's rich history was expertly showcased, providing a comprehensive overview. Regrettably, our experience was marred by our guide's demeanor. Despite her knowledge, her rude and authoritarian attitude detracted from our enjoyment. It wasn't just us; fellow travelers in our group shared similar sentiments. Despite this unfortunate aspect, the tour itself was fantastic.

Beware of additional charges at restaurant

The tour itself is okay, visited many beautiful places and archaeological sites. Food wise, because we stayed at Amalia chain of hotels throughout, the breakfast was basically all the same which can be pretty boring. Dinner was also at the hotel, buffet style. The dinner at naphlio was probably the best out of the three, the hotel was also the most modern with great TV options. The other two are not so good, whether it's the hotel furnishings, TV or food. Lunch was always at places designated by the tour company and wasn't that great. Because I am a pecasterian, food choices were pretty limited and the vegetarian plate is always stuffed tomato or pepper. On the last day of lunch at meterora, the restaurant staff added salad to our meals which my friend and I thought was part of the mix plate we ordered, only to be charged for those. So in the end we paid 20€ each for subpar food. Overpriced and average taste. The restaurant is called gr eat. We were tricked into paying for bread at ambrosia restaurant on the second day similarly. The tour guide did not warn us on this which I felt so irresponsible since she chose all the places.

Everything was well planned and organized. Our tour guide Rose was outstanding and very knowledgeable. We had a wonderful time and would highly recommend this tour.

A worthwhile excursion to better experience Greece.

Our tour guide Joy brought these ancient places to life with her knowledge of history and story telling. Worthwhile excursion when in Greece which is so much more than just the islands. The journey through the Pellopenes, winding climb up to Delphi and passing the central spine to Kalambaka was spectacular. No complaints on food and accommodation throughout.

The best of Greece!

This is a must do trip if you visit Greece. The tour guide is very knowledgeable of the history and culture of this beautiful country. Every single place we visit was amazing and so full of history, Olympia, Delphi, Mycenae but the highlight of the trip was Meteora/Kalambaka. Those monasteries at the top of those marvelous rocks are out this World.

This was a nice 4 day...

This was a nice 4 day tour with one of the best guides with us Joy. I was expecting a smaller group but we were 40 of us in a large bus and self admiringly, our guide told us she has never seen this tour with such a large group. I guess thats the magic of holidays. If you have time, I would recommend this tour, but in retrospect, I'd probably suggest taking the tours of Meteoras and Delphi since they offer the most. Mycenae and Olympia, of course have great history and valueable context, but if you are struggling for time, do a 2 day tour of Delphi and Meteora which will still be a great context. I hindsight I would have done that. And this has nothing to do with the quality of this tour. This is just my preference. The tour itself was organized and carried perfectly with our driver Nicos and guide Joy. The hotels were nice but I was a little bored by almost the same menu everyday for breakfast and dinner.

Happy motoring through Greek history

Our guide, Joy, was excellent. She wove ancient myths and historical events into a tapestry binding our explorations together. Each site was better than the last. We’re so glad we chose this tour instead of one of the shorter versions. Our driver, Nikolas, was experienced and calm. We knew we were in good hands navigating the narrow mountainous roads. It’s a lot of bus time, but necessary to see such scattered sites. It would have been nice to have chargers on the bus and better WiFi, and a bathroom on board might have eliminated the need for so many lengthy bio breaks. Overall, we’d highly recommend this trip. We booked for our family of five adults after our cruise was canceled, and everyone loved the experience.

Long trip but definitely well worth every Pennie’s!

The tour lady name Joyce so full of knowledge giving us in details during each stop! Everyone in the bus so appreciated her endless energy that make our 4 days tour quite eventful! Also a big kudos to the bus driver, Nicolos for his skills on the roads making everyone relaxing and the journey so enjoyable! Definitely will recommend this trip!

Amazing way to see a lot of mainland Greece

This tour was amazing. As a single female, visiting Greece for the 1st time I was concerned about driving and safety. This tour allowed me to sit back and enjoy the scenery and I felt safe the entire time. The tour guide was super knowledgable. She gave the history and combined the mythology tales with each place. The tour group became a mini family. I will never forget the amazing memories and people that I met. I highly recommend this tour. The highlights for me were Olympia, Delphi and Meteora. The only recommendation is that the tour company should let females know about the Monastery rules. Women's shoulders need to be covered and they must wear a long skirt or dress. Luckily, I had read reviews and came prepared.

Every turn in the...

Every turn in the archeological sites is another picture moment and there is much beauty to be seen in and out of the monasteries. The guide, Helen, was knowledgeable and answered our questions enthusiastically. I strongly recommend this tour.

Good tour but some cautions

I took this tour on a solo trip to Greece in May 2023. Overall I really enjoyed the tour, but there were a few complaints: The tour guide did not introduce herself or the driver and was not very friendly or personable. There were mainly English speaking people on the tour, but she did the tour in French first. She was knowledgeable, though, but had a monotonous voice and speaking French first was annoying. The sites visited were great and Meteora was spectacular. One word of warning about Meteora: when inside the monasteries wear a mask. They are very crowded and poorly ventilated. I didn’t wear a mask and tested possitive for Covid a few days later. Another caution: Pay for the tourist class hotels. I paid for a first class and found out that several others on the tour paid for tourist class and stayed in the same hotels. It was several hundred dollars difference. My travel agent contacted Viatour and they would not refund the difference or provide a reasonable explanation. Overall the tour was enjoyable and worth the money.

Fascinating tour

There were too many extraordinary places to choose only one. Olympia was fantastic. So was Mycenae and Epidaurus. Meteora was, literally, breathtaking

Wonderful tour - highly recommended!

This is a must do tour for Greek history enthusiasts. We were really lucky to have an amazing tour guide (Dimitra from Chat Tours) who was extremely knowledgeable and also a great communicator. We enjoyed every moment, the archaeological sites, the many stories an myths and also we were mesmerised by the beautiful landscape. Thoroughly recommended!

Great way to see many of the sites in Greece. The first day was busy and we visited several sites that were beautiful. Olympus was a treat Delphi an amazing hike and ending in Meteora was just lovely.

I am Glad I Did it!

I got to see some areas of Greece that I probably would not have seen had I not done this excursion. Along with the memorable sites, the tour guide Xenia and bus drivers made the trip enjoyable. The hotels we stayed out were acceptable, nothing fancy. the food served at the hotels was expected. During the travels we experienced a few times of downpour rain, but the tour continued on. The bus driver and tour guide did an excellent job at staying on schedule and keeping us all safe. Even when we had to take a detour due to flooding and road damage. If you want to experience Greece in an informative way, I highly recommend this excursion.

A whirlwind of extraordinary experiences

The depth and the drama of Greek history is nearly unfathomable, and we saw a lot of it in person in just a few days. All hotels were lovely, and food was excellent and plentiful. The guide and the bus driver were both highly competent.

Our guide JOY was outstanding and made this trip so pleasurable. The sights were amazing in my view. I had no idea Greece was so mountainous. My wife booked this trip and I had no idea what we were going on. However this was a highlight not to be missed.

This is a great overview of some of the really ancient history of civilization. Evie , our guide , was great with her knowledge of history, mythology, and society Prepare yourself for a lot of walking , climbing - bring water and sturdy shoes Totally worth it!

The City of Nafpilo was an amazing surprise with Venetian walls on the cliffs overlooking the city, and a fortress island in the harbor.

Ancient Greek History in 4 days!

Hearing about al the Legends and Myths associated with Greek History was an incredible experience! Joy, our Guide, had a story to tell for everything we saw and every question asked! She made the History come alive with her knowledge and sense of humor. Te difference between having read about the places we visited and then actually having seen them is something that i will treasure forever! ZEUS and Apollo were "Tom Cats"....

Highly recommend, particularly later September to avoid heat and minimise crowds

The history of Ancient Greece is what this tour offers and fulfills 100% A couple of long days but the adventure is worth the trip
