Krishna Janmashtami is one of the famous festivals celebrated in India and this festival is also known as Gokulashtami. It is basically a festival which celebrated the birth of Lord Krishna. This festival is celebrated differently at various destinations of India but it is also celebrated at other destinations apart from India. From Dahi Haandi to Raas Leela to tempting Janmashtami delicacies to fun filled fares. Janmashtami is celebrated with much pomp and fervor. However, if you’re thinking that the birth of Lord Krishna is celebrated in India only then you’re mistaken as Krishna Janmashtami is also celebrated in Nepal and Bangladesh like it is celebrated in India. Nepal

Janmashtami is celebrated with same fervor in Nepal as it is celebrated in India. Locals of Nepal celebrate the festival of Janmashtami by visiting the historic Krishna temple in Patan of Lalitpur. People also celebrate the festival by reciting Bhagavad Gita and by observing the fast until midnight.

Bangladesh

Bangladesh is another country where Janmashtami is celebrated. It is one of the destinations where Hindu communities are residing and hence Janmashtami is celebrated in Bangladesh as well. Hindu communities celebrate the festival with Janmashtami procession which marks the beginning from Dhakeshwari National Temple. 

Mathura

This city nestled in Indian state of Uttar Pradesh is the birthplace of Lord Krishna and thus the festival of Janmashtami is celebrated with much pomp in Mathura. This city is also refered as Krishna Janm Bhumi. Mathura is decorated like a bride on the occasion of Janmashtami, as the whole city gets decked up with sparkling decoration along with Rangoli and lights. People visiting Mathura during Janmashtami can hear the echoes with the sound of bells and Krishna mantras. The celebration of Janmashtami in Mathura begins at midnight on Ashtami in the month of Bhadraba as per Hindu Calendar.  In Mathura, Janmashtami is started with Krishna idols being bathed in curd, milk, honey and ghee and then after this, the idols are adorned with new clothes, ornaments and finally the idol is placed in decorated swing.

Vrindavan

Vrindavan is another iconic destination nestled in Uttar Pradesh and it is the place where Lord Krishna grew up. This is place where Krishna used to perform Raas Leela with his Gopis and hence every year this festival is celebrated with great enthusiasm in Vrindavan. It is another must visit destination during Janmashtami.Moreover, devotees visiting Vrindavan during Janmashtami can also explore the iconic Krishna temples.

Dwarka

It is the place where Lord Krishna has established his Kingdom in Dwarka in Gujarat state of India. It is another destination which one can explore during Janmashtami. Mumbai

Janmashtami is popularly called as Gokulashtami in Maharashtra and this festival is celebrated with Dahi Handi championship in Mumbai. During Janmashtami, group of men in Mumbai called as Govindas enact the same story as Lord Krishna used to steal curd and butter from earthen pot and then finally they make human pyramids and break the pot. It is another must visit destination during Janmashtami.

Puri

Puri is another amazing destination where Janmashtami is celebrated. However, in Puri the festival is called as Shri Krishna Jayanti or Sri Jayanti. People celebrating this festival in Puri worship Lord Krishna and keep the fast to enjoy the festivities of Krishna birth.
