Indian travelers who intend to intend to travel Norway for business purpose requires a Schengen visa. A Schengen visa is a document, which shows that you have permission to enter Norway and other Schengen countries for a limited period of 90 days.

Note (18th September, 2011): This is to intimate all Applicants from India to register their applications online before submitting their application along with supporting documents to the Embassy or to one of the Consulates.

The Applicants applying from the Norwegian Honorary Consulate in Kolkata, Chennai or Mumbai also need to apply online.

If the Applicant is submitting application in Delhi, then the Applicant should book an appointment in the online portal: //www.no.ckgs.in/online-visa/online-application.aspx and submit the application according to the date and time selected.

Applicant needs to fill online visa application form by visiting the online portal: - “Application Portal Norway (//selfservice.udi.no)”. After the completion of the form the visa fee should be paid electronically (by credit / debit card) on the same site.

Norway is a Schengen State and has some specific visa guidelines. Kindly go through the following note:

Schengen Territory: The citizens of India can get short stay visa for a period that ranges from one to ninety days, which will be valid for all countries of the Schengen Territory i.e. Austria, Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), Denmark, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden & Switzerland. The Schengen Convention is an innovative initiative taken for freedom of circulation of people. According to the same, foreigners having a valid stay permit delivered by one of the Schengen states can leave and later re-enter the Schengen Territory without taking visa again, but with a condition that they have a valid passport along with relevant travel document and a multiple entry visa.However, application for visas have to be submitted with the relevant Consular authorities, which are to be determined according to the following criteria

If the applicant intends to stay in one country only, the application should be submitted at the Representation of the same country.

If the applicant intends to travel to more than a few member States, the application should be submitted at the Representation of the country where the main point of travel lies mentioning the duration of stay.

If the main destination cannot be determined, the competent Consular office for processing the application will be one of the countries of the first port of entry into the Schengen Territory.

The long term visas are still subject to the Law of the country of destination. They must be applied for at the Consular Authorities of the concerned member of the states.

Tourist Visa

Indian travelers who intend to travel Norway for any purpose requires a Schengen visa. A Schengen visa is a document, which shows that you have permission to enter Norway and other Schengen countries for a limited period of 90 days.

The Applicants applying from the Norwegian Honorary Consulate in Kolkata, Chennai or Mumbai also need to apply online.

If the Applicant is submitting application in Delhi, then the Applicant should book an appointment in the online portal: //www.no.ckgs.in/online-visa/online-application.aspx and submit the application according to the date and time selected. 

Applicant needs to fill online visa application form by visiting the online portal: - “Application Portal Norway (//selfservice.udi.no)”. After the completion of the form the visa fee should be paid electronically (by credit / debit card) on the same site.

All applicants must make sure that Air Ticket, Invitation, Insurance and Covering Letter have matching dates.

Note: All documents should be translated into English or Norwegian. If necessary, the verification should be made by Indian Ministry of External Affairs. It is to be noted that all documents should to be presented in original and one copy.

  • The Applicant must have a passport with a validity of at least three months beyond the date of intended stay with two blank pages. Passports valid for over 10 years won’t be accepted as the main required travel document. A copy of the passport (s) (all relevant and used pages).
  • Two duly filled-in visa application forms (photocopy allowed, only back to back). All the columns of visa application form should be filled in capital letters (or else they will be returned). Applicants should fill and sign the Document Check List form.
  • Applicant's "Applicant Information Form", duly completed needs to be submitted along with the form.
  • Two latest passport size colored photographs (35 x 45 mm in width) with white background, with close up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70 -80% of the photograph. Photographs should be clicked with a digital camera with high quality colour and must be printed on photo-quality paper. Photograph should not be older than 6 months. The photograph should be pasted on the application form, not stapled.
  • The visa application form should be submitted with a covering letter signed by the Applicant explaining the purpose of visit, the travel plans and duration of stay in each Schengen country (territory). In case of self employment, studies or school, private business, traveling on tourist visa, a Covering Letter preferably, on Company's Letterhead is a mandatory document (in original).
  • Documentary permission for leave from applicant’s Organization / University / School is required.
  • Documentary confirmation of payment from the travel agent when going on cruise or any other package tour.
  • Documents confirming employment, private business, school or studies; a permission for leave: (including the address, telephone no).
  • Copy of bank account (s) for the past 6 months in the original and one photocopy.
  • Confirmed booking (travel itinerary) of roundtrip air ticket, with fixed travel dates of maximum 90 days (don’t buy the ticket until visa has been granted, as if the application is approved, the visa will be issued according to the same scheduled dates). (2 photocopies).
  • Sponsorship Letter on a stipulated form, which can be obtained from the Immigration Department in Norway (to be submitted in duplicate) and documentary proof of funds to survive in the country, should be submitted along with the application form. All supporting documents must be submitted in two copies as mentioned above.
  • Documentary proof of confirmed Hotel Reservations and financial guarantee depending on the length of stay is also required.

All travelers need Travel Insurance of Euros 30,000 for duration of stay in all Schengen states. The insurance must be valid for another 15 days from the date of return to India from Schengen State. Some of the Indian Travel Insurance Companies which provide Travel Medical Insurance for Schengen Visa are:

  • Apollo Munich for the age group of 6 months to 70 years.
  • Bajaj Allianz for the age group of 6 months to 70 years.
  • ICICI Lombard for the age group of 3 months to 51 years.
  • IFFCO Tokio for the age group of 3 months to 70 years.
  • Future Generali for the age group of 6 months to 55 years.
  • NATIONAL for the age group of 6 months to 60 years.
  • Reliance for the age group of 3 months to 70 years.
  • Tata/AIG for the age group of 6 months to 55 years.
  • Oriental Insurance Company for the age group of 6 months to 60 years.

If the applicant is under the age of 18 years, then he / she need to submit the following documents along with the application form:

  • If the minor is travelling with one parent only, original written consent of the other parent or guardian.
  • If the minor is travelling alone, then the original written consent of both the parents or guardians (having the care and custody of the applicant).
  • Copies of the first and last page of parents’ passport.
After issuance, the Visa remains valid for 90 days and can be issued for a maximum stay of 90 days.
  • The visa processing time may vary from 15 to 20 days. If it is deemed necessary to refer the application to Norway, the processing time can take up to 8 weeks.
  • If an interview is required or documents are not complete, the processing time might go up to 30 days.
Note: All the requisite supporting documents must be submitted together with the application, by the applicant in person or via an agent. Additional documentation sent after submitting the application won’t be accepted / considered.
The visa application fee can be paid electronically (by credit / debit card) on the secure “Application Portal” after filling in the application form online. The application will not be sent to the Embassy before the payment has been successfully processed (usually within a few seconds). Applicants (/ sponsors, etc.) may pay the same by Visa or MasterCard.

INR 1265:- For applicants who have filed their applications online using the Norway Application Portal, and only seek the services of CKGS Visa Application Centre to deliver their passports and other supporting documents.

Business Visa

Applicants need to submit the Invitation letter from the Norwegian organization on official company letter head with stamp and signature that precisely mention the following:

  • Name, date of birth, passport number and designation of person invited
  • Information on purpose of visit and the duration of stay, including detailed programme of events (meetings, conferences, training or business related events).
  • Entire itinerary in Schengen area, and additional invitation letter if visiting other countries than Norway.
  • The person or the entity, who will bear the travel and living costs of the applicant (s)
  • Precise details on accommodation
  • The name, designation and contact details (e-mail/phone number) of the authorized signatory.
For other citizens: Indian residence permit (valid for past six months).

The original covering letter from the Indian organization on official company letter head, clearly stating the following details:

  • The name, date of birth, passport number, designation, salary and years of employment of employee
  • Information on purpose of visit, duration of stay in Norway
  • Details of the person or entity, who will bear the travel and living costs of the applicant in Norway
  • The name and contact details of the company in India (address, e-mail and phone number).
  • The name, designation and contact details of the authorized signatory (e-mail / phone numbers)
Other Requisite Documents:

  • Documentation of applicant’s own funds (bank statement from the last 3 to 6 months).
  • The Memorandum of Associations / Balance sheet of the Indian company in the original along with its photocopy.
  • Copy of the confirmed booking (travel itinerary) of roundtrip air ticket, with fixed travel dates of maximum 90 days (applicant should not buy the ticket until the visa has been granted. Note: Only if the application is approved, the visa will be issued as per the dates on the itinerary).
  • Documentation of own funds for the stay or a guarantee declaration issued by the reference person financial means (in invitation, or in guarantee letter etc.) should also be attached with the application.
All travelers need Travel Insurance of Euros 30,000 for duration of stay in all Schengen states. The insurance must be valid for another 15 days from the date of return to India from Schengen State.   • The visa processing time may vary from 15 to 20 days. If it is deemed necessary to refer the application to Norway, the processing time can take up to 8 weeks.
  • If an interview is required or documents are not complete, the processing time might go up to 30 days.
  • After issuance, the Visa remains valid for 90 days and can be issued for a maximum stay of 90 days.

Note: Usually a single entry visa is granted. However, a multiple entry visa may be issued on request (in very special cases). There has to be documented reasons for the request and a grant will be made strictly of only as many entries as are required. However, the increasing stay cannot exceed 90 days stay in one year.

  • After issue, the Transit Visa remains valid for 90 days and is issued for a stay of 72 days.

Seamen Visa

  • Indian Seamen traveling on duty should carry a Letter of Guarantee from the Shipping Company with the Seamen Book and passport.
  • A message from the Shipping Agent in Norway needs to be faxed to the Embassy mentioning the particulars of the Seamen and the date and port of joining the ship.
Residence & Work Permit Visa
All the documents should be translated into English or Norwegian. If required, the verification should be made by Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It should be noted that all the documents need to be submitted in original along with its 2 copies.
  • The Applicant’s should have a validity of at least three months beyond the date of intended stay with two blank pages. Passports valid for over 10 years won’t be accepted as the main required travel document. A copy of the passport (s) (all relevant and used pages).
  • Two latest passport size colored photographs (35 x 45 mm in width) with white background, with close up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70 -80% of the photograph. Photographs should be clicked with a digital camera with high quality colour and must be printed on photo-quality paper. Photograph should not be older than 6 months. The photograph should be pasted on the application form, not stapled.
  • Two duly filled in application forms for residence permit along with the questionnaire in duplicate (all columns SHOULD be filled in block letters). Applicant also needs to fill and sign the Document Check List form.
  • Applicant's "Applicant Information Form", should be duly completed.
  • Application should be submitted along with two copies of the first two pages and the last page of his / her passport.
  • Labour contract / Offer of Employment in original signed by both parties should be enclosed with the application form.
  • A letter from the Employer in Norway guaranteeing the Employment.
  • Documentation of relevant education (notarial confirmation) and work experience should also be attached with the application form.
  • Documentation of housing in Norway (e.g. Tenancy agreement, lease of house, etc.)
  • Applicant's birth certificate (with notarial confirmation).
  • Documentation proving change of name (if in any case).
  • Applicant's "Power of Attorney" duly completed (Optional).
  • All applications are referred to Norway and the approval can take up to 4 to 6 months.
  • All documentation needs to be submitted in original along with 2 photocopies. The original documents will be attested by the Embassy and returned in due course.

Note: The Embassy may contact the applicant to request additional documents, if required.

Residence Permit for Family Reunion Visa

  • The Applicant’s should have a validity of at least three months beyond the date of intended stay with two blank pages. Passports valid for over 10 years won’t be accepted as the main required travel document.
  • Two duly filled-in residence permit application forms. The Document Check List form also needs to be filled and signed by the applicant.
  • Applicant's "Applicant Information Form", should be duly completed.
  • Two latest passport size colored photographs (35 x 45 mm in width) with white background, with close up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70 -80% of the photograph. Photographs should be clicked with a digital camera with high quality colour and must be printed on photo-quality paper. Photograph should not be older than 6 months. The photograph should be pasted on the application form, not stapled.
  • Applications should also be submitted with other relevant documents to proof your identity in the country
  • Two duly filled-in questionnaires.
  • Two copies of Sponsorship Letter from the Sponsor (if any).
  • Two photocopies of first three pages of the passport and of any valid visas.
  • Two copies of the Birth Certificate.
  • Residence certificate documenting mentioning housing in Norway.
  • Documentation of housing (copy of tenancy agreement, lease of house/skjøte, leiekontrakt).
  • Documentary proof of relationship to the Family Member in Norway as applicable, such as:
Applications with spouse must also enclose the following documents:
  • Marriage certificate with Apostille from the Ministry of External Affairs, Delhi
  • Divorce certificate, if previously married
  • Registration of reference person's divorce in the home country or where the marriage took place
  • Death certificate if previously married/cohabitant
Applications with fiance must also enclose the following documents:

  • Statement of single status
  • Divorce certificate (if previously married)
  • Registration of reference person's divorce in the home country or where the marriage took place
  • Death certificate (if previously married / cohabitant)
Applications with cohabitant must also enclose the below mentioned documents:

  • Rental agreement or buying contact mentioning common residence for the two last years
  • Residence certificate of both the applicant and the reference person showing that they have been registered at the same address for the last two years, if available in country of residence
  • Selection of mail / bills addressed to common residence during the last two years
  • Death certificate, if previously married / cohabitant
  • If getting married in Norway- Legal document to prove marital status (in the case of second marriage- divorce / death certificate is required).
Documentation of subsistence, as per the Immigration Regulation Section 10-8 - 10-10:

  • Last years’ annual income document / tax assessment (siste skatteoppgjør og ligningsattest), or
  • Documentation of sufficient income from abroad (if relevant according to section 10-9 second paragraph), or
  • Documentation of reason for exception from this condition according to section 10-9 third paragraph
  • Contract of employment and pay cheques for the last three months, and/or
  • If reference person is self employed: last years’ accounting and document from authorized accountant stating how much has been withdraw in salaries, and/or
  • Documentation of other sources of income mentioned in section 10-8
  • Confirmation from NAV / Social Service office that the reference person has not received benefits according to the Act of Social Services the last 12 months
  • Applicant's "Power of Attorney" duly completed (it is an optional requirement).

Student Visa

Note (18th September, 2011): This is to intimate all Applicants from India to register their applications online before submitting their application along with supporting documents to the Embassy or to one of the Consulates.

The Applicants applying from the Norwegian Honorary Consulate in Kolkata, Chennai or Mumbai also need to apply online.

If the Applicant is submitting application in Delhi, then the Applicant should book an appointment in the online portal: //www.no.ckgs.in/online-visa/online-application.aspx and submit the application according to the date and time selected. 

Applicant needs to fill online visa application form by visiting the online portal: - “Application Portal Norway (//selfservice.udi.no)”. After the completion of the form the visa fee should be paid electronically (by credit / debit card) on the same site.

It is also be noted that all documents should be translated into English or Norwegian. If required, the verification should be made by “Indian Ministry of External Affairs”. One must also note that all of these documents must be submitted in original along with 2 copies.

Note: Applicants should make sure that Air Ticket, Insurance, Invitation, and Covering Letter have matching dates.

  • The Applicant’s passport should be valid for at least 2 months beyond the intended duration of stay in Norway (along with 2 sets of photocopies of the first 3 pages of the passport and of all valid visas). Passports with validity of over 10 years won’t be accepted as the main required travel document.
  • Two duly filled-in visa application forms (photocopy allowed, only back to back). All the columns of visa application form should be filled in capital letters (or else they will be returned). Applicants should fill and sign the Document Check List form.
  • Two duly completed questionnaires.
  • Two latest passport size colored photographs (35 x 45 mm in width) with white background, with close up of your head and top of your shoulders so that your face takes up 70 -80% of the photograph. Photographs should be clicked with a digital camera with high quality colour and must be printed on photo-quality paper. Photograph should not be older than 6 months. The photograph should be pasted on the application form, not stapled.
  • Application form should be enclosed with a covering letter written by the applicant.
  • Application form should be enclosed with the "Letter of Admission", issued by the Norwegian institution of learning. The letter must include applicant’s name, information about the educational institution, the studies and level to which he / she have been admitted, including the length of the studies.
  • Study Plan Form.
  • Financial Plan Form.
  • Documentary proof of accommodation in Norway (e.g. Tenancy agreement, lease of house, etc.).
  • Documentation of English skills.
Financial Guarantee:

  • Self-financed applicants should deposit the requisite money in a Norwegian bank account in the applicant's name or in the educational institution's account and provide documentation. The amount would be about NOK 81.400 per year. However, the fee is not applicable for students at folk high school. For more information, applicants may contact the educational institute.
  • If the applicant has been granted financial support from the Norwegian State Educational Fund, he / she is requested to present the original letter of approval for the same.
  • If the applicant has an economic guarantee from a sponsor, the money should be deposited in a Norwegian bank account in the applicant's name. Documentations should also be provided.
Applicant should attach the documentation of last educational degree with notarial certificate or letter from his / her educational institution with the application.
  • These cases are referred to Norway and approval can take up to 3 months.
  • Applications should be submitted with copy of your passport (all related and used pages).
  • Visa Processing fee for Employment / Students is INR 7,500 /-.
The Embassy may contact the applicant to request additional documents, if required.

Supporting documentation should be submitted along with the application, by the applicant personally or by agent. Additional documentation sent after submitting the application will not be considered.
