Luxembourg is a Schengen State and has some specific visa guidelines. Kindly go through the following note:
Schengen Territory: The citizens of India can get short stay visa for a period that ranges from one to ninety days, which will be valid for all countries of the Schengen Territory i.e. Austria, Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg), Denmark, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Greece, Iceland, Latvia, Italy, Lithuania, Norway, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden & Switzerland. The Schengen Convention is an innovative initiative taken for freedom of circulation of people. According to the same, foreigners having a valid stay permit delivered by one of the Schengen states can leave and later re-enter the Schengen Territory without taking visa again, but with a condition that they have a valid passport along with relevant travel document and a multiple entry visa. However, application for visas have to be submitted with the relevant Consular authorities, which are to be determined according to the following criteria
- If the applicant intends to stay in one country only, the application should be submitted at the Representation of the same country.
- If the applicant intends to travel to more than a few member States, the application should be submitted at the Representation of the country where the main point of travel lies mentioning the duration of stay.
- If the main destination cannot be determined, the competent Consular office for processing the application will be one of the countries of the first port of entry into the Schengen Territory.
- The long term visas are still subject to the Law of the country of destination. They must be applied for at the Consular Authorities of the concerned member of the states.
Tourist Visa
- The Applicant’s passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of return and must have 2 blank pages (available for the visa). One photocopy of the data pages is also required.
- One completely filled in application form duly signed by the applicant.
- Two latest passport size photographs in color with white background. One photograph should be pasted (not stapled) on the application form and the other one need to be given along with the application.
- Documentary proof of accommodation (confirmed hotel booking).
- Entire travel program including itinerary along with dates and places to be visited in the country.
- One copy of the confirmed return ticket to India or the confirmation of the reservation.
- A covering letter on a business letterhead (original) from applicant’s employer / company / school mentioning applicant’s position, the length of his / her service and the confirmation that the adequate leave / vacation has been approved, should be submitted along with the application form.
- Proof of sufficient financial means to cover all expenses during your stay such as: (a) Salary / Pension slips of the last three months, (b) Status of personal bank account for the last three months in letter from your bank [(including the name and signature of the bank manager (original)], (c) A letter from applicant’s bank (original) mentioning credit limit on his / her credit card, (d) Income Tax return for at least 2 years (Proof of paid Income tax).
Application should also be enclosed with a copy of overseas medical insurance policy (valid for all Schengen countries for the whole duration of your stay with a minimum coverage of 30,000 Euros for all kind of medical risks such as urgent medical attention, accident, repatriation and emergency hospital treatment). In case of multiple entry visas, applicant needs to sign an additional declaration covering further journeys accordingly. Visit Family or Friends Visa
- The Applicant’s passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of return and must have 2 blank pages (available for the visa). One photocopy of the data pages is also required.
- One completely filled in application form duly signed by the applicant.
- Two latest passport size photographs in color with white background. One photograph should be pasted (not stapled) on the application form and the other one need to be given along with the application.
- Documentary proof of sponsorship. The original (certified true copy) of the formal obligation completely filled and signed by the sponsor and signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg is to be attached with the visa application form.
- One copy of the confirmed return ticket to India or the confirmation of the reservation.
- A covering letter on a business letterhead (original) from applicant’s employer / company / school mentioning applicant’s position, the length of his / her service and the confirmation that the adequate leave / vacation has been approved, should be submitted along with the application form.

Business Visa
- The Applicant’s passport should be valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of return and must have 2 blank pages (available for the visa). One photocopy of the data pages is also required.
- One completely filled in application form duly signed by the applicant.
- Two latest passport size photographs in color with white background. One photograph should be pasted (not stapled) on the application form and the other one need to be given along with the application.
- Documentary proof of accommodation (confirmed hotel booking).

- Application form should be enclosed with invitation letter from the inviting company in Luxembourg stating the purpose of the visit including the entire business program with planned visits and/or meetings to attend.
- A covering letter on a business letterhead (original), from the Indian company mentioning applicant’s position, the length of his / her service and the purpose of visit.

Long Term Visa

- A Certificate of residence in India.

- A Copy of ID or passport of the family member in Luxembourg.
Authorization to stay for work:
- A Letter from future employer (Original).
- A Certificate of residence in India.
- A proof of residence after the arrival in Luxembourg.
Authorization to stay for students:-
- A Letter of acceptance from the university / proof of admittance in a higher education institution (in original).
- A parental authorization letter in case the student has not reached the age of 18.
- Medical / repatriation insurance covering the whole period of stay of the applicant.
- Documentary proof that the student disposes of sufficient resources during the studies covering residence charges and return charges. Resources must be 80% of the actual guaranteed minimum income in Luxembourg. (Guaranteed social minimum is 1,025.25 € on 1st of January 2013). The Proof can be brought: (a) By a scholarship certificate or a student loan signifying the allocated amount and the duration, (b) By a bank attestation, (c) By a financial statement of support (prise en charge financière pour étudiant).
