Salzburg and Lake Region Small-Group Day Trip from Vienna

Touring beautiful landscapes in a small group

We joined this trip at the last minute after another trip we booked got cancelled at the very last minute. The tour guide Josef was very nice, and we were lucky to travel with an amazing group. This trip gives you around 3-4 hours in Salzburg so it it just the right amount of time for a taste of this quaint and beautiful town. After a few stops along the way, including a half hour breakfast stop on the highway, and a few stops with breathtaking views and photo ops, the tour guide gave us a 1 hour walking tour that acquainted us with the old city. Then we had free time. Some spent it at restaurants and at the market. We decided to take the cable car up to the castle and tour the castle. It was interesting and the view from up there was breathtaking. The way back to Vienna took around 3 hours with one short bio break. In short, if you prefer going on an organized tour on a short visit to Salzburg, I recommend this trip. You might want to consider taking the train to Salzburg and take a local walking tour of the town instead.

Great Day With An Even Better Guide

This was a great trip, partly due to the weather but mostly due to our guide, Robert. When we arrived at the pickup point we realized that we were the only two people on the trip. Robert was an amazing wealth of information. He knew tons of the history of the area, but he presented it in a way that kept us interested the whole way. He shared about his life experiences and asked about ours. He was very personable and made us feel like friends. We stopped in the Lake District for some beautiful photos and walking around the area. Then we made to Salzburg and it is a beautiful place. Robert spent about an hour walking us around town and giving us a tour. Then we had about 2.5 hours to explore on our own and get something to eat. On the way home it started raining and lasted the whole way home. Robert was a safe driver and he kept the ride home interesting as well. All in all, a great day

Enjoyable tour.

Had a great time with our driver, Robert. He’s extremely knowledgeable of Austria and is passionate of his work. All the places we went wad just enough with beautiful sceneries. Would recommend this tour.

Wonderful day in Salzburg 💕🇦🇹

Jozef was a great guide… just the right amount of info. It was especially enjoyable as he took us off the highway to enjoy the lakes region and we made a couple of scenic stops on our way to Salzburg which was wonderful. A great day with a great guide and having only 8 people in the group made the experience even better! The finishing touch was the return to our individual hotels…. Highly recommend!

Great full-day trip to Salzburg

Wonderful day trip with Joseph. We met at the indicated meeting point and left promptly on time. It was indeed a small group of just 8 of us. On the way from Vienna to the lake region, after about a 2-hour drive, we stopoed at a small but clean and comfortable truck stop restaurant, with good service and fine choices for either breakfast or lunch; it was a 45 minute stop. The drive and 2 stops around the lake were great, as the views are spectacular. Joseph did a great job explaining where we were and lots of other info about Vienna, the region, and a little history. The tour in Salzburg was just enough to get a taste of all that there's to do. We spent about 3.5 hrs on the ground in Salzburg. All in all, it was a great full-day trip.

Well balanced!

Very well put together tour - both the driver and tour guide were excellent. The itinerary was well balanced, didn't feel too long or boring in spite of being around 12 hours. We saw lots of beautiful sights and several Sound of Music locations. Great attention to detail and professionalism all around! Highly recommended, great job!

Amazing experience!

Our guide, Roberto was not only an excellent driver but an outstanding guide as well Lake District is incredibly beautiful… worth it the trip just to see the amazing mountains and lakes We were lucky to stop in a few places and admire the views of different lakes Salzburg old town was the main attraction so rich in history Overall a great experience we highly recommend it

Average, would not choose...

Average, would not choose this tour again - not bad, but not exceptional either, just not to the taste of me and my wife. The tour guide did a thorough job, so no reflection on his ability.

Enjoyable, Memorable trip, highly recommended

Salzburg is a beautiful place to visit. This small group tour to Salzburg is highly recommended as we get to see as much possible in a day tour in a very planned and comfortable way. Tour guide Mr. Joseph ensured that trip was enjoyable for all.

Great tour!

Robert was an excellent tour guide and a safe driver. This experience was well worth the money and I had a great time. He clearly knew what he was talking about. Plenty of sightseeing, and ample time to wander the old part of Saltzburg solo, too.

Best day of our trip!

This tour was fantastic! I really liked the small group rather than being in a large bus. The tour guide/driver took us through the lakes area on the way to Salzburg and the lakes were so beautiful! The van was spacious and comfortable. We stopped at a place on the way where we were able to use the WC and buy some breakfast/snacks. The tour of Salzburg was very informative and customized to our small group (which was more interested in Mozart sites than Sound of Music sites, although we did see both). We had about 2 hours on our own to find lunch, see sites, and buy souvenirs. The van also had iPads at each seat where we could watch The Sound of Music (which I did on the ride back). We loved our tour guide, Robert. Highly recommend this tour if you are in Vienna and only have one day to see Salzburg.

A lasting memory!

Josef was a knowledgeable and very personable tour guide. He educated us on more than our tour, but about Austrian culture and life in general. He was a great driver as well! It started out rainy but the sun came out once we got to Salzburg. He gave us a walking tour and he allowed us ample time for us to explore on our own. My family visited the quaint cemetry and visited the Hohensalzburg fortress. A wonderful tour!

Fun and convenient trip

Our driver/tour guide, Robert, was very friendly and knowledgeable. And the trip was fun and very convenient, especially the drop off back to my accommodation in the evening. Highly recommended !

Beautiful views, culture and Sound of Music sights

Great trip, with a couple of quick photo stops of beautiful scenery along the way! Salazburg is beautiful, the Mirabell gardens where scenes from Sound of Music were beautiful, and Robert gave a highly detailed explanation of everything on the tour. Wear comfy shoes as the walking tour is about an hour and 45 mins and if it’s sunny bring your sun screen! You then have 2hrs 15 to explore yourself, and do as you please. Robert’s recommendations helped me devise an itinerary of what I wanted to do as we walked around, in my free time I went to the food market and enjoyed sitting in the sun by the river, went to Mozart’s birth place, strolled around the gardens again and visited the wine bar next to them. Another traveller said they went up to the art museum where you can get great views of Salzburg which also looked awesome. The iPads in the back of the mini bus were a great touch to watch Sound of Music on the way back, the drive flew by!

As advertised

This really is a nice and private tour. I was a bit concerned about reviews with lack of guide but we had no issues. Robert was knowledgeable, our group had total 6 people with 3 solo and our family of 3. Enjoyed the guide and information. It is a long drive back but that’s the case with geography (other choice is to spend a day in Salzburg)

We enjoyed the lake...

We enjoyed the lake region - beautiful. Salzburg was very interesting and lovely. Robert our guide was very knowledgeable. The trip was just too long for us - nothing to be done, but the three hour drive back was difficult.

Salzburg is a beautiful city and fabulous scenery en route. Small group tour with very knowledgeable guide. Comfortable journey with scenic stopping points for photos and comfort break stops included. And after a guided tour we had free time to explore ourselves and have drinks/food. We loved our day out and would very highly recommend this trip. Easy to book and communicate throughout with the company.

Nice tour

Joseph was nice and informative. Bus ride was long but we had some great stops for pictures. Salzberg was pretty and easy to walk around.

This was a great day trip. The lake region is beautiful, and Salzburg is a really charming place. Robert was an excellent tour guide.

I’m so glad I did this! The lakes and Salzburg were really beautiful! Our tour guide Rui was amazing - he was so nice and very knowledgeable.

Great Day and Comfortable Ride!

We had a fantastic guide for the day (Roy/Michael) and an extremely comfortable ride there and back. We stopped at a great spot along the way for a quick morning bite/coffee and break before our stops along the lake region. The weather wasn't spectacular for one of the views along the way, but we made the best of it... you can't always predict mother nature. In Salzburg, we had a great waking tour that wasn't rushed, and our guide made it very known that if you wanted to go off and do your own thing there were no hard feelings. After the walking tour, we had time for a late lunch at a great restaurant recommended by the guide along the way and then a little shopping. We picked up some amazing gouda cheese at one of the stands we passed on the walking tour. Lots of Sound of Music references along the way in the lake region and Salzburg. It was a great day, and we definitely recommend it!

Good times

Lake region was not accessible due to weather. Driver tried several times to reach a visita, but we really couldn’t see anything - a waste of time! We should have proceeded to Salzburg. The time in Salzburg was too short could have used several more hours. The driver was safe, very knowledgeable and friendly. He gave us a detailed description of Vienna as we left the city, pointing out various sights of interest. The tour of Salzburg was good, wish we had listening devices as it was sometimes difficult to hear as the streets were crowded. Again, not enough time to see more than one sight.

Great day trip to Salzburg and lake region. The driver/guide Josef was excellent and shared lots of useful information and was accomodating of all the guests. Visited so many of The Sound of Music locations plus Mozart's birth house and church where he was baptized. Highly recommend this tour!

Rua was the best tour guide. My friend and I were the only ones on the tour and we felt like we were given the VIP experience! Rua taught us all the history of Salzburg and made the ride comfortable and fun! Highly recommend this day trip Salzburg is beautiful!!

Great day trip to Salzburg and Lake area!

Josef was an excellent tour guide! He was very kind and informative. The ride there was very comfortable and it was even equipped with iPads to watch the Sound of Music! We told him we liked Sound of Music and he took us to all the spots he could from the movie. It was such a good day trip highly recommend.

Stunning Salzburg :)

Such an enjoyable day in Salzburg.. it was the highlight of our trip to Vienna! Rui, our wonderful driver and guide, was so warm, welcoming and unbelievably informative on Austria and it’s history. Worth every penny and I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Vienna :)

Extremely enjoyable day on all levels

Rue was an excellent guide and when pointing out spots where. sound of music was filmed made it come alive as he could pinpoint the scenes in the movie to what we were actually seeing. Tour was informative and well paced.

Wonderful Experience

I would like to thank Michael for an amazing tour from Vienna to Salzburg. He was awesome and has great knowledge of the city. He hit all the highlights and let us know the best places to eat and visit. It was very interesting and I enjoyed it very much. If I will have the chance I would gladly repeat it again!
