The class was fabulous! Going to the market first was really interesting, I loved looking at the cooking utensils and seeing the different produce available. The driver was friendly and cheerful, the people running the class were knowledgeable and enthusiastic. The tour f the garden was interesting but everything was topped by the delicious food we made. This was honestly a highlight of the trip. I highly recommend doing this class.

Cook great food in tranquil surroundings

Wayan and her team were great. The trip to the market was informative and interesting. We enjoyed cooking all the amazing dishes in the outside kitchen. Very well organised and super yummy. A great way to find out more about balinese food and how to prepare it.

Amazing experience - fully recommended!

We had an absolutely great time. The tour is very well organized, starting from the hotel pick up, and also the market tour and the cooking class itself. During the class there is no time to get bored, you always have something to do and many preparations are already started by the staff, so it is also not too long. The staff is really friendly and they are willing to provide explanations and share stories. The kitchen is located outside, and you are surrounded by an incredible landscape. In the end, we also received a booklet with the recipes for the meals we prepared and a very nice video. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was amazing, and we sincerely recommend this tour!

Put this on your to-do list for Bali

This was the perfect experience to see the local market and cook delicious Balinese food. Wayan was lovely and very attentive. A must if you're in Bali. The video you get of the day is cool too.

Incredible

An amazing experience! I’ve loved my class and learnt how to make many tasty dishes. 😊 The women who led this class were very friendly and had a good sense of humour. I went solo so it was nice to meet other people in the class. We all had a great time.

Fantastic and well-organised tour with many extras

I loved the Balinese cooking class. Pick-up was smooth and on time, followed by a visit to a local market, which was very informative. We were then taken to the cooking school, which is set against the backdrop of a picturesque rice field and surrounded by a lush garden, where you can explore locally grown vegetables and fruit. The cooking class itself was very well organised and the presentation was marvellous. We were really looked after exceptionally well with a welcome coffee and breakfast, lunch, some fruit to take home and water. I also really enjoyed the extras this tour came with, including making an authentic Hinduist flower offering and receiving an edited video of our experience at the end of the day. Finally, if I had to make a recommendation for improvement, I would suggest going completely plastic-free. As such, it would be best not to waste so many plastic gloves but reusable ones that get washed, and to give people cold water in glasses rather than bottled water. Indonesia is in an absolute crisis regarding plastic waste and I saw many public areas and beaches in Bali and Lombok, that were filled with rubbish and used as dumps. It is incredibly important that local businesses make a start to contribute to positive change and change their practices to become more sustainable, thereby setting an example for the rest of Bali/Indonesia. Local businesses and government agencies need to understand the impact that the amount of rubbish in Indonesia may have on tourism if it continues to go unchecked. Many thanks, Laura

This Balinese cooking class is an incredible experience! Putu and Wayan are amazing hosts 😊. The morning market visit is very insightful, and the class offers a lot of learning with delicious food at the end! Great class, highly recommended 👍

A+ class

Really well organized, and everyone was so nice! I definitely recommend this cooking class if you’re in the Ubud area. The market visit was okay but if you prefer to attend the afternoon class, you won’t miss much - the highlights were all at the class itself!

Great experience

This was well organised and a great experience. Interesting to learn something about Balinese culture at the markets. We made lots of dishes, very tasty.

Best experience in Ubud so far!

Definitely a must do in Bali! Even after some misunderstanding at the start (which was totally my fault) they picked me up at time and we drove to the market, getting so much knowledge about the common local harvestings (fruits, vegetables, offering ingredients, ECT.) and they always asked us if we have more questions! The cooking class itself was premium, the people were so nice welcoming us very nicely with welcome drinks, asked if we want coffee/tea and offered snacks and free water! Showed us patiently how to make traditional offerings before we started learning about our meals and what we need for it! Then we started preparing and they showed us everything carefully and individually, since the group was perfectly small! The cooking was fun, also getting to know about the traditional way of cooking rice and preparing the food! After we finished, we were able to eat as much as we want and they always asked if we need anything else! Received a cook book and a little souvenir as well as a wonderful video with cut together snippets of the day! So friendly and so much knowledge, highly recommend!!!! :)

Must do cooking experience

Great from pick to drop off! Wayan and her team were warm and friendly. We learnt lot about Balinese food and culture at the market visit and through the cooking class. The class was very hands on and the food we made was delicious, some of the best food we have eaten while in Bali

Fun and educational cooking experience!

Fabulous cooking class with a small group. Superbly run and the right amount of being taught and DIY across a number of Balinese dishes. Well organised, I’d definitely recommend for those seeking an authentic and fun class!

Great experience

I had the best time on my cooking class experience! Everyone at the school was incredible! A real genuine passion for Balinese food and culture! The tour around the food market was amazing and I loved being able to try all the fruits! My driver there and back was also brilliant picked me up on time and was full of facts on the drive and suggestions about other places to visit on my trip!

Fun and delish cooking experience

A wonderful experience starting with a market tour with the chef explaining the ingredients we would be cooking with. Then we head to the cooking class. 10 dishes all in all. The chef gave plenty of tips and tricks to cooking the dishes. We get to cook all dishes from start to end. So that was fun! Highly recommend this cooking class package. Friendly. Competent. Fun!

Must Do Cooking Class

This was a great cooking class. Well organised with trip to market in am and then tasting produce on return. The explanations and tuition were very good. Food was very tasty. We had Estonians and Koreans with us. Great to mix with other cultures.

AWESOME EXPERIENCE

This was an awesome experience!! Our driver, Awan, picked us up at our hotel We met our chef/instructer at the market. Amazing all the vegetables and fruits! Then off to the cooking class in the country. The place was beautiful and Very Clean. We got to work chopping and preparing our food. After all the cooking we sat down to a FABULOUS MEAL!! We received a video and cookbook with the recipes. Awan then picked us up and on the way back to the hotel we stopped to try tea and coffee. We had the opportunity to try the Cat-poo-chino Luwak coffee. A fabulous experience and reasonably priced. If you have time this is a MUST Do!!!! On the way to and from Awan was a wealth of information. 10 Stars!

Best experience in Ubud!

What an amazing morning! I highly recommend this class for your first or second day in Bali- heading to the market with the girls, who eagerly answer any questions you have regarding ingredients and prices- sets you up for your whole trip to be enjoyable! These woman are boss babes! They are so efficient, smart, and funny! My fiancé and I couldn’t stop smiling from either how tasty the food was or laughing from their jokes :) such a special memory! Thank you!

Absolutely worth it!

My husband and I were fortunate to have Wayan all to ourselves for this experience. The day starts off with a visit to a local market where Wayan taught us about a variety of different ingredients and we got to try different kinds of fruits, peanuts, and snacks. Then we drove to Wayan's home kitchen overlooking a picturesque rice paddy, where we assembled an offering basket while learning about Balinese offerings. Next, we made a bunch of food and had a great time, then finally we got to taste our hard work. At the end, Wayan gave us a recipe book and offered alternative ingredients so we can make Balinese meals at home. Wayan herself is a lovely person, so positive, funny, and kind. I would 100000% recommend this class to anyone and everyone!

We had so much fun! Very informative and the staff made us so comfortable. Such a beautiful location out of the town centre with rice and vegetable gardens nearby.

Must do in Ubud

Exceeded my expectations! Wayan was super helpful and nice, and explained everything very detailed. The market we visited in the morning was not a tourist market, but very local, and Wayan explained everything. I even got to try a bunch of things there! After the class I received a recipe book and even a cute edited video of the whole morning. 11/10 recommend :)

A great experience worth doing when in Bali

Markets were an eye opener. Cooking class was fantastic, well organised, friendly and thoroughly enjoyable. A must do for anyone wanting a cultural experience

Lovely experience from start to finish. Started out a little early to beat the traffic and enjoyed a beautiful drive up from Canggu to Ubud. Driver and host were both friendly and great communicators. Host was super warm, informative and good humoured throughout. My partner and I 🏳️‍🌈 felt very welcome 🙏 the food, though, OMG, it WAS 🤤 DELICIOUS. Unbelievably good and so satisfying cooking it for yourself with host’s kind support. SO MUCH FOOD too. We prepared so many dishes that, as much as I wanted to, it was impossible to finish eating them all. Host very kindly made us turmeric ginger lemongrass tea to follow lunch. Kitchen was clean and well equipped and set in rice paddies and tropical garden outside Canggu, with neighbour’s chickens running around outside. Hygiene was exemplary. we finished with an offering to Siva, Krishna, Ganesh and Rama at the host’s shrine. The whole experience was so good my partner immediately booked to go again next week with a friend.

This was a really great cooking course. Personal, local, really informative and at a great pace. I told them on the day it was a vegetarian and it was easily accommodated. Food we made was so YUM! Great commutation. Book directly with them at Cobek Bali you will save no money.

A wonderful experience

The guides contacted me the night before to let me know when they would pick me up. I arrived in the lobby 5 minutes early, and there was a message already that the car would be 5 minutes late (no problem, and thank you for letting me know!). The market was great. She showed us traditional cooking utensils and cookware, foods and spices for cooking, and even bought us little treats to try when we arrived at the class. The meals were amazing. I feel quite accomplished! We were all given the opportunity to cook and/or assist on all meals. We sat down for a wonderful meal! They sent us a video montage of pictures, and gave us menus to take home. They even gave us substitutes for items that might not be available!

Would recommend this tour highly!

We had a fantastic tour with Ayu through the market and rice field. She was very informative and knowledgeable about the produce. We had fun making offerings and learned much about Balinese culture. Nyoman welcomed us into his home and we had a great time preparing dishes and eating. I would definitely recommend this tour :)

Authentic Balinese Cooking Experience

We love to cook Asian food back in Australia and found the Balinese Cooking class very authentic informative and allowed us plenty of hands on experience. The Staff were amazing and talked you through every step.. then you were able to sit down and enjoy the meal you helped to create with your fellow cooks. Fabulous!

It was a fabulous experience!! We had a 10 course meal that we prepared by chopping, chopping, chopping!!! Boiling, frying, grinding etc it was a tremendous amount of work & everything was delicious. Highly recommend!!

Memorable Balinese cooking experience - everyone should try this

The best experience. Wayan, our cooking teacher was well organized, with excellent helpers made this a memorable experience, in a beautiful setting . The food we made was authentic and delicious . Totally worthwhile - and I made new friends with my cooking classmates. My driver, Dewa was giving me helpful hints during a drive, and explaining the Balinese culture - what more can I ask for .

More than special experience

Visiting morning market, learning and buying ingredients and balinese traditional utensil, making sauce, dishes(sate, steamed rice, salad, curry etc), dessert. And then having a feast at rice field view place. Joyful teacher and staffs. Everything is memorable and special experience.

It’s a must! You’ll love it!

Words will not express the experience! It was truly inspiring, cosy, nice, the atmosphere was phenomenal but not as amazing as the Teacher. She is the cutest person 🥰 Starting with the visit at the local market, I got to learn a lot about balinese spices, vegetables, and cooking in general. Later we went to the home which is in a quiet place (if you’re staying in Ubud you know how peace and quiet is missing there 😂). Later on we prepared the ingredients, it’s a perfect way to learn traditional recipes and techniques to make e.g peanut sauce. Then the cooking… so enjoyable! I also said I love balinese coffee and they got me a pack of coffee from the village. You’ll also learn how to make balinese offering (PERFECT!). The food was amazing too! I was really lucky because i was the only “student” and we got to connect closer. As you can guess, I recommend it with while my heart 💜

Wonderful cooking class, we recommend 10/10

I surprised my friend this cooking class for her birthday and we had the best time. From start to finish it was just a great experience. Starting off with the tour of the local market, tasting exotic fruit, explaining the differences in tastes of the fruit. Then the main part the cooking was just as great. We were all involved with making all the dishes, from chopping to grinding to frying. We really mostly cooked everything ourselves. The menu consisted of 9 different dishes which were all amazing. The kitchen is in a lovely location away from all noise. This of course would not have been as amazing as it was without the staff: Putu, Wayan and Ketut. Thank you guys so much for this wonderful experience! They were so kind to us and even made my friend a birthday cake on the same day after they heard that it was her birthday…🫶🏼

Best cooking class experience!

Highly recommend! This was such a fun experience learning the Balinese way of cooking and recipes. The team were exceptional, funny and incredibly welcoming! The food was so delicious, I’m going to be full for days.

Enjoyable and culturally enriching!

Picked up by driver punctually at 730 and dropped off at the local morning market/pasar pagi with the rest of the group before meeting our guide and cooking instructor Wayan. We were introduced to the local tools used for cooking as well as fruits, vegetables and ingredients that will be used during the cooking session, before being driven to the cooking school. The cooking school overlooking their own rice paddy field was lovely. We were first given some welcome drinks and share some snacks bought at the market and mingle with others in the group. Then taught how to make the flower offerings using the bamboo leaves and various flowers representing the gods in the Hindu religion. A mixture of live hands on demo with explanation and divide & conquer (plus taking turns) tasks with preparation (chopping, cutting, pounding) and cooking the dishes made it very enjoyable experience for anyone over about 2 hours. We leant how to make the basic paste&sauce, a soup, a curry, a salad, sate ayam, tempe dish, a steamed fish paste in banana leaf and dessert, apart from how to cook rice the way the Balinese do it. At the end of everything, we all sit down to enjoy the fruits of our labor before being dropped back off at our hotels. A big Terima Kasih to Wayan & her team at Cobek Cooking School for this wonderful and culturally enriching experience for me.

My Bali cooking class experience was exceptional! The pick-up service was convenient, and our trip to the local market was an enriching cultural experience. The chef and assistants were incredibly helpful, creating a fantastic atmosphere. After an enjoyable cooking session, we savored a delicious dinner. As a bonus, we received thoughtful gifts that included recipes. Highly recommended for a complete and delightful Balinese culinary adventure!

An incredible experience, with a delicious reward!

This was such an amazing day, I was so excited to learn more about authentic Balinese cooking and culture, and Wayan and her team went above and beyond to give us an unforgettable experience! Our tour of the markets was fantastic, with the ability to taste and smell different fruit and vegetables, then we went back to the house for an authentic cooking experience making 7 different Balinese dishes. The team guided us through the prep and cooking and made it fun, and at the end the food was absolutely mouthwatering! We even got a video of our day, as well as a booklet of the recipes. 10/10 day, will be recommending this to anyone I know who comes to Bali. Thank you Wayan!

Wayan and all her assistants made this cooking class an excellent way to spend 1/2day in Ubud. I’m very excited to take home these local recipes. Each recipe was easy to follow and tasted amazing! I know I can do this again at home. Also, as a solo traveler, it’s a nice way to get to meet others. What a great memory!

I loved everything about this experience. From the great driver, to the market tour, to the welcoming into a private home, to the preparing and finally eating. It was informative, educational and fun. I would highly recommend.

A special morning with special teachers!

We started with a tour in the traditional market where we learned more tips about Indonesian products like fruits and vegetables. After we went in the farm and we had breakfast with some typical Indonesian food and we built a little basket with flowers for the temple! That's was a beautiful experience for me! After we cooked with the group and we ate what we cooked for lunch! It was a special morning. This is a way for know the traditions and the people of the country you visit and meet new friends from different parts of the world! At the end of the morning the teachers give us also a little book with all the receipts we cooked! The small group is also a plus! Thank you so much for this experience!

Highly recommend doing this cooking class! The whole experience was very fun and the team we worked with were incredibly friendly. We cooked roughly 8-10 different dishes and all contributed to each in different ways. You're helped at every step by the team as well so the food that comes out at the end is still delicious, regardless of your cooking expertise (or lack of). Great experience overall!
