Great tour

This was a great tour and really good value for money. It was very informative and it takes you to parts of the city that you may not otherwise have gone to. Our tour guide Phil was brilliant, very knowledgable and able to answer any questions we had. Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in the subject

Very Interesting

Super interesting tour and worthwhile for anyone who wants to understand more about more recent history. Did the tour on Remembrance Sunday which felt even more poignant.

Late cancellation due to illness

Tour was cancelled 25 mins before beginning by phone, due to the guide being taken ill . I hope he or she is ok after such a sudden illness.

Intriguing tour in the city's turbulent past

I attended the WWII and Communism Tour. I appreciated very much the explanation by the local guide, Adam. His broad knowledge allowed him to explain very complex concepts in a few simple words. Moreover, his eloquence was so powerful to convey the drama and the emotions of those times. It has been for sure a full immersion in the tumultuous past of this great city. Thanks, Adam and thanks to Discover Prague for such an awesome tour! Last remark, a bit disappointed regarding the beer tour because you need at least two persons to be able to book it.

Great Experience, very knowledgeable Guide, highly recommended!

Our Tour Guide, Zach, was truly awesome on this World War II & Communism Tour. He shared his immense and profound knowledge of historical events in a way that not only informed us about many facts but also related them to us in a manner that permitted us to intuitively understand them. I left not only knowing what had happened but also why, who had done it for what reason and what people thought about it. In particular, I have to say that as a German I find that his explanation of how the Nazi Party rose to power in Germany was much more sensical and comprehensible than any that I've ever heard in my school. I absolutely loved Prague even before I participated at this tour, but afterwards I felt like I had barely begun to scratch the surface of this wonderful city's very soul and that it permitted me to not only love but admire it. Booking this tour as an extracurricular activity together with a classmate was my absolutely best decision on the entire school trip. It has played an important role in my decision to, one day, definitely come back to this city. I am definitely recommending this tour and our genius Tour Guide to anyone and everyone!

WW2 and Communism tour

We thoroughly enjoyed our WW2 and Communism tour of Prague. Our guide Tony was excellent ... so informative and everything told in such an engaging, interesting manner. He was able to answer all our questions and added in information on Prague today. A top rate experience which I can highly recommend.

Worthwhile tour of Prague

We booked this tour due to a mutual interest in the Second World War...There was quite a bit about Prague and it’s connection to the war and its resistance that I was unaware of and also about the history of Communism in what is now the Czech Republic. Adam was our guide for the tour and is easily one of the finest guides I have ever had the pleasure of spending time with. Adam was informative, Knowledgeable and humorous when the moments on the tour would allow for it. I found him extremely pleasant and would thoroughly recommend him and the tour to anyone!!!

Excellent and informative

I thought this tour was excellent and incredibly interesting. The tour guide, Adam had a good balance of solemnity and humour: 2 and a half hours went by extremely quickly. The church where the assassins hid was incredibly moving. Here we moved around the museum independently, as requested at the door. I can only imagine that the review complaining that the tour guide left them didn't understand this. Well worth going on.

Informative but for enthusiasts

Adam was a knowledgable and amiable guide, open to any questions and who really connected us with the city through his own and family's experience. I recommend the tour for people already seriously interested in the era. Thanks Adam!

Fantastic tour guide Analise

Excellent and informative tour led by a friendly and very well-versed tour guide, Analise. Would recommend to any history lovers - a really eye opening and poignant recounting of Prague’s history.

Highly recommend

Great walking tour. Small group, learned loads of stuff and saw lots of bits of Prague I’d not seen before, including a short trip on the tram. Adam was great, very articulate and sense of humour too. Highly recommend. Wrap up warm! It was cold, despite the sun shining.

We went on the WW2 and communism tour of Prague with our tour guide, Tony. Tony was an excellent guide and was highly informative and knowledgeable on the subjects. The tour covered a range of sites and is a must for anyone visiting Prague. The tour was well organized by the company, discover-Prague and departed promptly from the meeting point and finished on time. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in this era of history.

Excellent!!

The knowledge of our tour guide, Adam, was first class. He navigated us through 100 years of history in two and a half hours, no mean feat, and expertly explained why the Czech Republic is what it is today. Seeing first hand the locations was amazing and brought it all to life. We would thoroughly recommend.

Very interesting tour

We went on this tour today with Analise as our guide -she was very knowledgeable and made the information interesting and she put it “ across” in a easy to listen way -we walked around -took a tram -and went to the Church of Cyril and Methodist ( hiding place of the Heydrich assassins ) Analise was professional and very pleasant-She definitely made our tour more enjoyable. A definite must to do on your trip to Prague -quite thought provoking ( wear sensible shoes as a lot of walking involved ) Thank you Analise

Big let down

So we decided to do this tour after an excellent free city tour with Zack. Should of just left it at that and not done this one as you can really tell the difference between a paid tour and a free tour. Guide Adam, -Came fifteen minutes late (tour was meant to start at 2:30pm). - Came in his tracksuit pants. - Incorrect facts and other members of the tour constantly corrected him (resulting him going to wikiapedia to fact check) - eg such as the abbreviation of the nazi party. - on the phone texting constantly. - Disappeared for twenty minutes at a free museum which required us to read posters on a wall (there was another company here where a guide was explaining what it all meant. My advice, skip this and stick to free tours.

WW2 Tour

We recently completed the WW2 and communism tour with Adam and it seemed like a waste of time (and money). Firstly this is only the 2nd tour we have had to pay for upfront rather than the normal free tour concept around the rest of Europe. (We have done over 15 in the last 2 months) and it was a disappointment. The tour guide was 15 minutes late, when usually the guides are out well before the tour times. We went into a free museum for 25 minutes for us to read boards ourselves while the guide went to get a drink. (If we were reading from a board, no need to pay for the guide). The information he provided was very generic and hardly provides an idea of the times that were, like most guides provide. Other members in our tour also corrected a lot of the guides statements that were factually incorrect. Perhaps when you pay upfront the guides don’t feel like they need to work as hard, but I certainly would recommend other companies first.

Really cool!

Me and my friends were with Tony on the tour. We absolutely loved it!! We are 4 colleges students visiting Prague for the weekend, and Tony kept the tour dynamic and interesting. He was incredibly knowledgeable on the tour and even gave us recommendations for local restaurants. I would absolutely recommend this tour for anyone who is interested in WWII or Communist history.

Incredibly Interesting

I and my friends had a fantastic experience on the tour led by Tony. In addition to pointing out the history of Czechia during WWII and the Communist era, he also had great knowledge of the city itself.

Annalise was great!

This was a very informative tour. Most of Prague's streets on uneven and I would recommend wearing comfortable, flat walking shoes. Our guide had pictures from the era and a good grasp of the material. The group size was small, so we did not have to wear head sets but could still hear what she had to say. We had no trouble finding the meeting point to start the tour. We did scout it out earlier, which I believe is always a good idea.

Good storytelling, big walk, nice views of the city.

Zach was the guide and his history knowledge is impressive, he did a very good performance on telling the stories before and after world wars and the communism era, good speaker keeps you motivated to learn and understand the actions that unfolded and transformed the city and its inhabitants. When going to the Ss. Cyril and Methodius Cathedral, be sure to go on the main road to see the gunfire marks on the church wall, impressive.

Had Analise for both the free walking tour and WWII/communism tour. She was great on both and demonstrated a thorough understanding of the history of Prague and was a delight to have as my tour guide - would definitely recommend to anyone interested in history

It is always good to remind ourself of the history

Was good to be reminded of the history , and Tony did it very well on the tour. It was actually a perfect mix of walking and talking. First I thought the 2.5-3 hours event would be too much, but not at all. History was explained unbiasedly, in a easy to understand language, and nicely connected to the areas we have visited during the tour. I am happy we did it:)

Recommended overview, suitable for all ages

We decided to avail a paid tour as our first Discover Prague tour, it was a good choice and suitable for all ages (our children are 11 and 9 years old). Zach our tour guide was super knowledgeable, easy to understand, executed the well thought out routing using visual aids as queues, and pointed out rest & water stops in a timely manner, and made good use of shady spots to deliver his commentary. A mix of paid and free tours are an excellent way of seeing this magnificent city, led by knowledgeable and qualified guides. Inside tip - arrive early so you are not rushed, and enjoy a superb coffee (and bathroom facilities) across the lane at the Cake Shop (Zavarna U Klateho Jelena). Also, money changer offers good rates, across from the Discover Prague ticket office.

Great experience with Zach

We took the tour with Zach as our guide and had such a great time. Zach is very knowledgeable and is a gifted storyteller, really painting a vivid image and making all the complicated politics of the 20th century easy to understand. Zach is also very sociable and helpful, making sure to get to know everyone in the group. This manner kind of infected the tour party and a couple of us went out for beers the same evening. Would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Prague!

Zach is a legend

Me and my dad had Zach as our guide and he made it the whole experience insightful, entertaining and enjoyable. He has such a wide scope of knowledge about Prague and makes the history approachable and interesting. He is very approachable and open to ask questions. He also gave us good advice about the city and where to eat etc. The whole experience was brilliant and i owe it to him.

Outstanding

Went on the tour with Zach as our tour guide. Our family of 7 ranged from 14yrs - 70yrs. Everyone loved the tour. So much history in Prague! Great insight from Zach! Highly recommend!

2 tours - fantastic introduction to the city

We signed up for the free Royal Walk tour on our first day in Prague, which was a great start to our trip. And it was so good, we immediately signed up for the WW2 & Communism tour the following day. Coincidentally, we had the same guide for both tours - Tony, who was excellent. His interest and resulting vast knowledge about the city is really impressive and made for two fascinating tours about very different aspects of the history of Prague. He was also really friendly, helpful with recommendations for places to go and able to answer all questions. Overall, an excellent experience and I highly recommend both tours.

Royal Walk + Castle District + WW2&Communism

During my 3-day stay in Prague with really little knowledge of the city, I followed my hostel's (Hostel Prague Tyn) recommendation and chose to take 4 guided tours and activities offered by Discover Prague Tours : - the Czech Beer Tasting (~24€, 1.5h) - the Prague Royal Walk Free Tour (free, 2.5h-3h) - the Prague Castle & Castle District tour (free, 3h) - the World War 2 & Communisme tour (~14€, 2.5h-3h) The beer tasting activity was the perfect start for my stay in Prague, getting immediatly to know what to expect and obtaining great recommendations for bars and restaurants from the guide, Tom. The activity was also great to meet people in the same situation as me, visiting Prague not really knowing what to do, and I ended up spending a good part of the next days with them. Coincidentally, the 3 tours were lead by the same guide : Tony. His detailled and rich explanations, his pace of sharing information, the structure of his tours and his warm and friendly attitude answering questions made every tour a great experience that I would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone visiting the city. The tours are well designed, kept on a human-to-human basis (way better in my opinion than the guides using talkies-walkies or speakers), with frequent stops in front of or next to points of interest where the information either about the place or an event (or both) is shared. You always get plenty of time for photos or extra questions, every tour was conducted with a relaxed and enjoyable pace, and even so time went flying by every time. The Discover Prague Tours get a definite recommandation from me.

Zack is the best

Zack was very very knowledgeable and was able to help us learn not only about the cities history but also the city today. He was so helpful with restaurant choices and gave insight to other aspects of the country today. You’d be lucky to have him guide you!

Informative and Enjoyable

Eye-opening

Adam did a wonderfully engaging and entertaining job of giving us an overview of the last hundred years that have shaped present-day Prague. We were glad to have the viewpoint of a young Czech who has studied the politics and history of his country, not to mention the experiences of his own family. We wish we had done this tour earlier in our stay to give us an even broader view of what we were experiencing outside the touristy elements of the city. The tour timing went just as promised and was a nice mix of walking and riding the tram. I don't think we'll ever forget visiting the crypt of the church of St. Cyril and St. Methodius...

Zach nailed the Communism Tour!

Yesterday, I went on the Communism Tour with Zack, the American. I loved the coherence and chronology of the historical facts that he narrated. Although they were numerous, he really made them easy to digest with stories, dialogues and even visiting/showing existing attractions related to them. Moreover, he was available to answer my questions and clarify some facts about the history of Prague. Such a great guide, he was up to my expectations and his tour was the best complement to my visit to the Communism museum. Highly recommended

Best tour I have ever had

Had a great tour with Zach in the afternoon today. He is a young american who has been living for 5 years in Prague and loves XX century history. His tour is amazing and highly recommended. Could not have taken a best tour. Visited places we had seen before as part of an overall tour but this one was more insightful. Walked, took a tram, had a lot of fun!

We went on the free tour in the morning then the Communism tour in the afternoon. Zach was a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide. We learned a great deal about the History of Prague and would recommend this company

Well worth it

We had a great tour with Zach. He took us to several places in Prague as advertised, and always kept us interested. The tour includes a tram ticket and access to a small museum as well. Zach’s style of storytelling was very compelling; one could feel how it must’ve been to experience the different events covered in the tour. We learnt a lot, way more than one can know by merely reading about the (terrible) things the Czech went through in the 20th century. Well worth the money, I will recommend it to people traveling to Prague.

Interesting and worth it

We took the tour with the guide Zach and he was great. He was patient and answered questions as best he could. He was very knowledgeable and told the stories well. He also offered to answer any other questions once the tour ended. If you go for that tour, hopefully he will be your guide!

Yesterday me and a friend joined this tour with Zach, wich was brilliant. He’s very professional, and even under the rain he kept the group focused in all stories, making everything simple to be understood. If you’re going to prague, and you want to learn more about everything that happened here, I highly recommend this tour with him.
