Full-Day Countryside Bike Tour to Karlstejn Castle

Ahoy! My lovely wife Linda and I went on the castle tour with Suzanne In April. Actually visited the shop another day to purchase a T Shirt, it's a wonderful old shop with none of the intimidation that you may have felt in bike shops at home. Suzanne was competent, friendly and very knowledgeable about both the route to the castle, and maybe even more important, the proper way to get through traffic and out of Prague proper. The bikes were standard rental fare, well maintained and adjusted to fit each of us. There is really no better way to see the countryside and learn a bit about your surroundings than being on a bike with someone who knows what is there and the history behind it. We enjoyed the whole experience. If you have a day to spend off the beaten track you would be hard pressed to find something more rewarding. I'll add what most don't include in their reviews: My wife and I are both 70. We ride our bikes and swim regularly at home. We found the ride mostly flat, comfortable, and relatively easy.

Active visit to King Charles IV castle.

We booked this experience for our first full day in Prague.....and we slept in! We called Praha bikes...they said they would wait for us. We were only a few minutes late, but they gave us time to go across the street for coffee. It was raining, so the tour operator opted for us to ride the train out, and cycle back. This was a very good call. It rained steadily until about 1pm, then cleared. Richard, our guide, was very informative. He told us of the history of the area, and some of his personal history as well. Multi-lingual, well traveled. The bike ride was sometimes challenging....some rough gravel, some hills. If you don't cycle 25 miles regularly, opt for an e- bike. Plenty of stops along the way to rest, grab coffee or a snack. The city streets can be challenging as well....keep your eyes open! The tour operator will permit cycling both ways, but if it is a group he will stay with the group.....you may have to navigate.

Beautiful ride

The actual ride was amazing! We booked a tour 4 months in advance. 36 hours before they cancelled our guided tour and said they didn’t have enough people so our options were a self guided tour or pay for a private tour. We ended up doing the self guided which turned out amazing and glad we were on our own. We were able to stop as much as we wanted.

Great day in the beautiful countryside

Richard, our guide was excellent. He was very informative and helpful, providing information about Czech culture and history, as well as information relevant to the tour. The cycling was a good pace and he checked on us regularly. Bikes could do with a little maintenance.

Lovely day trip from Prague

We took the self-guided tour to Karlštejn since there weren’t enough people to make a guided group trip. It was great! They provide super easy directions on your phone and a phone holder on the bike. The ride was relaxed, the views were so pleasant and it was great to get out and see some countryside. The only tough part was getting out of the city, but it wasn’t too bad. Highly recommended!

Fun way to tour the countryside outside of Prague!

Richard was a fantastic guide on our Karlstejn Castle tour - we enjoyed his commentary on the ride out to the castle of life in the Czech Republic during and after the Soviet occupation, as well as his extensive knowledge of the history of the Castle. We highly recommend this tour and it is a great way to get out of the city for an afternoon. The restaurant where we had lunch and beer was excellent. Thanks Richard!

Great bike tour.

Amazing bike ride to Karlstejn Castle. If you want to get outside of the tourist area and see Czech republic, i would recommend this tour. The Praha bike team did an excellent job creating an easy ride to Karlstejn. Bikes we in good shape and easy to ride. Our guide, Richy, was amazing! He provided history and pointed out interesting landmarks. The ride is about 25 miles (38 km) and we went at a comfortable pace for our family including my 16 and 14 year old teens. We stopped at a place for a coffee/soda/beer and then a local restaurant for lunch - food was excellent! I would highly recommend this trip for anyone that wants to see more than just old town Prague, would love to get away from crowds, and enjoys an active (but not too active) excursion. Well worth it!!

Excellent bike tour outside of Prague!

We had an amazing bike tour to Karljian. Everything about the ride was easy and fun. Special thank you to our tour guide Richy! He was awesome - providing history along the way, pointing out interesting sights, and knowing just where to stop to eat. Our lunch was fantastic. The whole day was relaxing. And it went at a good pace, allowing my 14 year old daughter to stay with the pack. I also can't say enough about Praha Bike's communication. Thank you for helping us have a tremendous time! I would suggest everyone take this ride to see a bit more of the beautiful Czech Republic and take a break from the crowds in Prague.

Incredible Bike Tour!

Our family of four (2 adults, kids 10 and 12) absolutely loved our private full-day bike tour to Karlstejn Castle from Prague. Vladimir was the best guide - so knowledgeable about the Czech Republic and its people. And Damien kept us in good spirts for the entire 30km+ ride. I highly recommend this adventure as a day trip from Prague - you will not be disappointed!

Great eBike tour to the Karlstejn Castle

We had a great time with Jirska on our private tour to the Karlstejn castle. He is a very enthousiastic guide who knows much about Prague and the country. It is a very nice tour along the Moldau and the Berunka river. Strongly recommended! Thanks for the wonderful day Jirska 👌

Wonderful!

A bit late writing this review but we had an amazing day out. Marcell was our guide and he was brilliant! It was a very well planned day out with coffee and lunch stops and time to walk round Karlstejn Castle. The trip gave us the opportunity to see some of the amazing sights in the countryside.

An absolute must !!!! ( do yourself a favour and just book it)

We are lucky enough to have Jirka (George) guide us for the day. We could not have wished for a better guide and a better e-bike tour. Jirka provides wonderful commentary and insights into the countryside and of course the history. Obviously he is well credentialed and love his job with a touch of humour all the way. It is the middle of winter but still very comfortable to be out and about. Stunning views all the way to the castle. The ride itself is very easy on an e-bike with breaks for coffee and lunch. Never rushed at any stage. Take the hint and book this !

Karlstejn Castle & Back!

My Wife & I booked to go on the group day trip but unfortunately there were no other takers so we paid a little extra & went anyway. Our guide Marek was very knowledgeable & the cycle itself was great. Very flat & easy cycling a good way to see the city & countryside. We cycled straight to the castle & had lunch after our visit at their preferred restaurant which was also excellent. We then persuaded Marek not to catch the train & cycle back which gave us yet another perspective - all in all a great day!

Ride and guide exceeded our expectations in every respect - awesome day!

Our guide was Antonio and he was fantastic! Knowledgable, friendly, funny, and helpful throughout the day. We got some great exercise, lots of history, lots of laughs, great food and drink. Overall a great experience - can't recommend this tour, company and Antonio enough!

Wonderful way to spend a day sightseeing !!!

Antonio did a fantastic job guiding us on bikes through the city and beautiful countryside to the castle. We stopped and had a wonderful lunch at a great restaurant before going up to the castle . The castle was quite amazing and we enjoyed spending our day with Antonio !!!!

Fantastic Day Out

Chose the Karlstejn trip for a day out of Prague and it was a great day out. There were 3 of us in the group along with Victor our fantastic guide. He was very knowledgeable about Prague and Karlstejn. The route itself follows the rivers and so is relatively flat the whole way and what a spectacular site and the end when you get to the castle. Would definitely look to do another cycle with Praha bikes when I return. Many thanks for a great day.

Prague highlight!

The bike tour to the castle with Antonio was one of the highlights of my trip to Prague! The ride was wonderful. There was beautiful scenery with a variety of sights. The few stops we made were perfectly timed and very tasty. I had thought about doing the trip on my own without a guide, but I am so glad I booked. There were several turns that I might have missed and Antonio made the trip very enjoyable. So much laughing and great conversations with everyone on the tour. Highly recommend doing this trip!

Wonderful cycling trip to Karlstejn from Prague

Victor our wonderful cycle guide was excellent throughout and let us set the pace for the day. He allowed us to stop as when we wanted and found a great place for us to eat lunch. The scenery was terrific and most of the cycling was along quiet paths both next to the river and through the countryside. Victor was an excellent guide and we quickly all became friends.

Fun ride

My wife and I are in our 60s. We were able to make the ride with no problem. It was a little long oh, just a few areas were a pale and difficult to do, we had to walk our bikes maybe 100 yards. The views were great Anthony was an awesome guide and took care of us the whole way. We really loved the tour...

Amazing fun tour

We met our unbelievable guide Sharka, when she picked us up exactly at 8. We went on a hike in the bohemian Forest and then rode a boat through the canyon. Had a delicious lunch sponsored by the tour. Then hiked through the basilar in Germany. We were dropped off at our hotel exactly on time. It was a wonderful break from being in the city period would recommend it to anybody in Prague for more than a few days.

Had an excellent tour with Victor. He was knowledgeable about the Castle and Prague and provided me with some suggestions for other things to do. There was also some problems with my booking and Praha Bike were eager to help me to resolve these. Would recommend

Awesome Countryside Sight seeing

My experience on this bike tour was very good, it worth the day out of Prague and the crowds, the sight seeing of the countryside is amazing . The guide, Victor was really friendly and helpfull. The down sides were the heat (35C) and the castle tour that was delimited in a few rooms and a small backyard. Experience to repeat in a rented bike.

So important to get out of the city

Prague can be wonderfully overwhelming, and a country ride provides a perfect reset. With Antonio doing all of the navigating (much of it on a bike path along the river, but tricky getting out of the city and through some little towns), this ride let me breathe and relax again. The scenery is lovely and the castle picturesque. Antonio shared the history with our group and let us decide how much castle time we wanted. Lunch was outside at a lovely restaurant along the river. It only rained twice: once when we were able to grab cover at the restaurant, and the other while under the shelter at the train station. We were a small, diverse group, and Antonio encouraged our interactions, and was very supportive of our more challenged riders. A perfect day. I had planned to go on the city tours the next day, but lost my passport and had to go to the embassy instead; I was sorry I missed another day with Praha bike tours.

It was an amazing experience with Antonio as our guide. I really recommend it as an extra thing to do if you visit Prague.

Best Memory!

There were so many wonderful experiences we enjoyed on our trip to Prague. The bike tour to Karlstejn Castle was at the top of the list! Jirka, our guide, was engaging, informative and patient with those of us who were slow pokes (me). I learned, not only the history of Karlstejn but a great deal about the culture and society of the Czech people. I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting Prague.

Our best day in Prague

We absolutely loved the bike ride to Karlstejn Castle from Prague. We were a group of 12 friends who got an opportunity to bond over this activity. Czech countryside is quite beautiful and we rode along the Vltava and Berounka Rivers. The ride was a nice and easy one of about 40kms which gave us ample time to chat up with each other as also take a lot of photostops. Our guide Misha got the pulse of our group fairly early on.. and suggested some brilliant places for a coffee break and beer break etc. We plucked a few apples, apricots and walnuts along the beautiful country side as we rode along. One of our friends' bike had a broken chain (disaster !) which was promptly fixed by our guide Misha in what could have been otherwise a very bad episode. We gave away our bikes (to a Praha bikes representative) at the castle town and were then on our own.There was an annual fair at the Karlstejn Castle which made the trip even more memorable. We then returned by the train to Prague. The folks at Praha bikes were thorough professionals as also very friendly and if you are in Prague and are fit enough to bike around. Praha bikes are the folks you need to stop by. The guide makes all the difference... Thank you Misha and the other folks at the store.

Awesome tour

This tour was so much fun. I had not biked in 20 years but still made it and had a great time. Our guide Erin was awesome and so much fun. The chance to see the countryside was awesome and Karlstejn was a stunning castle. I even ran into Erin two days later and he remembered me. Made new friends on this adventure and it was a highlight to my trip.

Excellent day out in the countryside

I highly recommend the full day your from prague to the castle. You can see the authentic countryside around prague.. This tour is very well planned with different sceneries. Great day. Love it. Our guide marek was super nice. Evelyne

Excellent trip.

Very pleased with the full daytrip to Karlstejn Castle with Praha bikes (must pay cash - no cards). Marek was our guide and he was very informative. Kept the ride (about 24 miles) at the correct pace. Stopped for Lunch in the coutryside just before the castle. My wife had an ebike, but it was not really necessary as you are following the river or train line for most of the day. Just one steep slope half way to cross the railway. Came back on the train. A lot more confident cycling through Prague on our return. A really enjoyable day. Thoroughly recommend.

Excellent ride

Loved the ride in the country side. Good bike company. They made sure every guest was happy and comfortable with their bike before heading off. Our guide Mareck, who was very patient and experienced and 2 support crews with us. Guests were on Ebikes and normal bikes, but that did not affect the pace. Lunch was good and cheap although we had to wait a while for it to be ready ( 12 diners) - Would highly recommend this ride.

Nice trip and worth the money,

This is a complement to Erin the Irish-English guy that took us to the castle, Our guide for the trip to Karlstejn, was great fun to be with as well as a great guide. He had a great knowledge of Karlstejn castle and the city and looked after us brilliantly, The trip to the castle was very pleasant and catered for every level of rider , although we are regular riders there were others who had not ridden before but managed to keep up. We had fantastic weather that day and a great time with Erin. A really enjoyable trip.

Great expidition outside prague

We took the electric bikes which made for a great ride along the river to see the picture perfect Karlstejn Castle. It was also a good chance to see the pretty villages on the way.

Starting with good equipment good bike, clean helmet, the 40km ride was well done by Francesco. Although navigating out of the city requires patience, the scenery was wonderful, the lunch stop provided really good local food in a relaxed setting, and the ultimate destination in reaching the Castle was great. Our entire group was up to the task, and very relaxed which made the trip even better. It's not a 40km race to the Castle, but rather a nice pace that average riders can enjoy. All the staff at Praha were super nice and focused on getting the right equipment for you.</p>

A zest of the countryside in the suburbs of Prague

35 km excursion to Karlstejn Castle on May 23, 2024. This excursion is recommended by Michelin and Le Routard. The journey is interesting but less bucolic than expected. Leaving the city takes a third of the time. It is indicated as an "easy" route but the bikes are heavy (only one chainring, 8 speeds), more or less comfortable for an excursion of several hours. I highly recommend renting an electric bike. The guide Richard is excellent. We had lunch in a small non-tourist station before Karlstejn. The climb to the castle must be done on foot (2 km) on a steep street. We hadn't planned to visit the castle. I would recommend more stops for photos, especially in the countryside part.

Nous avons passé une excellente journée avec notre guide Richard qui connaît la ville comme personne ! A cause de la neige la journée au château n’a pu se faire mais on nous a proposé une autre excursion qui s’est avérée fantastique !

Un día estupendo de principios de septiembre acompañados por nuestro cicerone Marek. Una forma divertida de asomarnos a los alrededores de la ciudad y asomarnos un poco al país para los que nos gusta la bici. Las bicicletas pese a ser alquiladas tenían un buen mantenimiento. Volveremos a vernos seguro GRacias
