fun family food tour

our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. took us to some fabulous sweet shops and the we had the best ice cream in paris. would definitely do again!

Delightful!

Gilles was delightful and so knowledgeable. Our time flew and we learned so much. Of course the treats along the way were delightful!

Not worth the money

Our guide was kind but I didn't feel like the tour was as advertised. We stepped into chocolate shops and she gave a quick history of the shop but really no comentary as we walked thru the streets of Paris. I understood this to be a chocolate and pastry tour - we only stopped at 1 semi -pastry shop, otherwise all chocolate shops. The last stop was "pastry" and by far the MOST disappointing ... It was a chain restaurant, very sterile and absolutely nothing special. We were very dissatisfied and it really was a disappointing way to end the tour.

Everything was good!

We opted for a small group tour. There were 4 of us, and it turned out we were the only 4 in our group. How nice is that! We loved our guide - who was very knowledgeable about both the chocolate and sweets we sampled and about the area of Paris (St. Germaine) we were walking through. This was a wonderful way to see an area of Paris that we otherwise might not have seen. And, as an aside, we turned down none of the treats offered!

Wonderful food tour with Luis

The St Germaine chocolate and pastry tour was fantastic. Our guide Luis was incredible and provided an enjoyable food and Paris history along the way. He was adaptive to his audience making it enjoyable. Knowledgable about the shops we went too and the selections we tasted were very enjoyable.

Fun tasty experience

We had Luis Zarate as our guide and he was incredibly knowledgeable and kind throughout our tour. He even stopped to show us a beautiful church along the way (and so we could warm up from the cold). We tried some great desserts we would have never known about and at the end we went to La LAB for wine tasting. I don't like wine but even I enjoyed the experience, Edward (La LAB) and Luis were great!

Yummy Delights!

Barbara was a wonderful guide. She clearly had many contacts in the area and took us to all her favorite places to sample chocolate and pastries. She had a thorough knowledge of the history of the Saint-Germain area.

If you love chocolate and pastries, be sure to go on this

It was great being able to walk around parts of the city and trying different pastries, chocolates and jams.

Do not sign-up for this tour!

This experience was not as described. The guide seemed disorganized when she said several times that she didn’t know where she was taking us. She mixed up our orders in the pastry shops and we did not get what we asked for. We spent an inordinate amount of time visiting churches - not on a pastry and chocolate tour! We left halfway through the tour. I will be contacting Viator for a refund.

Superb experience!

Giles was a superb guide - knowledgeable about all the different facets of chocolate making, pastries and bread, and also about the history and cultural significance, and how everything fits into Parisian life. The tour of such a posh neighborhood and two churches was an added bonus, because we would never have seen those sights were it not for Giles. We had a truly wonderful time and he was a pleasure to be with - warm, patient, and passionate about Paris and food.

Best tour ever! Our tour...

Best tour ever! Our tour guide Josie was friendly, knowledgeable and kind (she even let me use her umbrella in the rain we unfortunately encountered during our walking tour). Her selection of sample treats was superb and her recommendations for each of us were on point when we chose our own samples. The store owners were pleasant and very accommodating. We learned a great deal about chocolate, pastries, breads and the city. Delicious way to spend an afternoon!

Not worth it.

Not worth the cost. During the walking tour, we arrived to three places that were not even open. Felt like time was wasted and instead, our guide chose other stores (unplanned).

Excellent!

This tour was so amazing. Lues was so nice and knowledgeable not only about the foods we tried but also the history of them and of Paris. I highly recommend this tour! We tried so many things I never would have thought to order on my own. My husband and I absolutely loved it!

A must-do for anyone interested in food and culture

Exceptional guide and tour

Yummy food but skip the tour

I expected to learn a lot about chocolate making pastry making or their histories in France/ I expected knowledge and fun information. It was very odd we basically had a lovely tour guide who worked w several shops to give us samples. I spent 450$ for maybe 35-75$ worth of food - it was fun to try all the food and she made it fast but she did not give us anymore information than I could have learned on my own from store to store and I wish I had just let my kids roam from shop to shop and buy anything they wanted to try. It did not feel educational it was fast and convenient and she knew what to buy but I say pass - not worth the money and it’s too much food to eat in 2 hours.

Highlight of our Trip

I think this was the best part of our weekend to Paris! Our guide Thibaut was friendly and knowledgeable and he took us to several very nice chocolate shops in the Marais, explaining the history of not only the chocolates and styles, but the shops themselves and the neighborhood as a whole. We also tried some excellent pastry and ended the tour with the best sorbet I've ever had. We especially liked that the tour was just our group (my husband and myself) and Thibaut made it clear that if there were specific things we did or didn't want to do or focus on, the tour could be adjusted to our liking. The tour lasted three hours and was well worth the money. We would absolutely do this again!

Worth it!

The trip led by Josie was at a leisurely pace, with stops at a half dozen or so exquisite chocolatiers, patisseries and bakeries. Josie purchased a few treats for us at each stop, and had answers to all our questions. She was a great guide!

Waste of Money!!! Do not go on this!

Completely terrible. Waste of time and money. 4 stops. Unplanned and unorganized. No recommendations for what to eat where we stopped. No croissants!!!!

Pick a tour with more variety

While the tour guide was fantastic and very knowledgeable, my entire family was very disappointed in this tour. Every shop we went to basically had the same type of chocolate. It was either praline or ganache. I guess we expected to get to try truffles, caramels, or more exotic chocolates. It was always those two types with different flavors added to them. We also wasted an enormous amount of time at a high end chocolate shop that we couldn’t even have a tasting at. I chose this tour even though it was much more expensive than the others of similar type because I thought it would give us a delicious and varied experience of the treats found in Paris. I really regret it because we just didn’t get to try anything truly unique or different. Should have picked the food tour instead so that there would have been more variety.

Not worth the money! Total letdown!

The tour guide was very nice but unfortunately she was so soft spoken that she was hard to hear and understand. If you simply want to be led to chocolate and pastry shops, this is the tour for you. You get to sample some chocolates and pastries but there is no additional educational information of behind the scenes tour. For what the tour charges, there is NO value added. The tour was underwhelming. For the price of the tour, you can treat yourself to a generous helpings of fine chocolates and decadent pastries, all on your own. The tour was a total letdown!

disappointing and commercialized

i didn’t love that every single chocolate store we went to was a big name such as pierre herme or la maison du chocolat. there was no introduction to the left bank or any chocolate history.

Disappointing Experience

We had a disappointing experience with our tasting tour. First off, our tour guide was extremely pleasant and kind. However, she spoke with a heavy Japanese accent that was difficult to understand. We were taken on our tour to a number local stores, most of which a tourist may be familiar with already (Maison du Chocolat, Pierre Hermé, and Angelina). At certain stores we were told we could not enter due large size of our party. This was peculiar since we were paying customers to both the tour and the store. Meanwhile other people that were neither part of the tour or paying customers were free to enter and browse as they wish. It’s disappointing that the tour and the store did not give consideration of our patronage. Again, our tour guide was extremely pleasant. Unfortunately, given the cost of the tour it did not meet our expectations.

Learning about the difference between good chocolate and lesser chocolates was interesting. Wish there was more pastry tastings.

Our tour guide was quiet knowledgeable about the goods, services, and processes of the chocolates and baked goods at the shops we visited. He was genuinely happy to escort us and translate as we sampled all the goodies.

Family fun for everyone!

Our whole family enjoyed this tour of Paris-exclusive chocolate shops in the Saint-Germain district. We could not have found these wonderful places on our own. Our guide spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable about Paris and chocolate. Our oldest daughter, who is studying in Orleans this year, thanked us for booking this tour. She said she finally understands why everyone raves about the food in Paris!

Lots of chocolate and pastries!

I swear when I booked this it was listed as a walking tour of chocolate, pastries and bread. So IDK if I was mistaken or the tour changed. It didn’t cover as much ground as I had hoped, but we did stop at a nice selection of stores. I lost count of how many samples we got! Plenty of food to try. Be sure to bring a bottle of water with you. It was great trying some other chocolates from established French chocolatiers that I was not familiar with.

Loved Learning About the Marais!

We enjoyed our guide- Gilles- so knowledgeable about the Marais. We loved learning about the history of the area while eating yummy treats! Our guide took extra time at the end to make sure we were on the right path for our Uber which was appreciated after a long day with our 7 year old!

The best way to start your Paris visit!

Tebo was an amazing guide. Not only did he take us to some of the most renowned pastry and chocolatiers, he added in small tidbits of history of the region and took us into a couple of churches for emphasis. We were a group consisting of 2 families, one of 5 and one of 4. It did make for getting into some of the shops a little more crowded but Tebo did a great job navigating it. All in all a great length of tour and right amount of treats. Make sure you take along some water and take pictures of the places you visit because you'll want to go back to buy more! We were a family of 5 with 3 kids ages 16, 14, 12. No complaints from anyone, hopefully you get to tour with Tebo too!

Worth it

Wonderfully delicious. Gilles was lovely, knowledgable and so patient. The patisserie and chocolatiers that we visited were divine.

Amazing experience

My guide was an amazing woman who had lived in Paris over 10 years. She took us to countless chocoholic shops and patisseries which were so delicious. We had such a broad range of treats to choose from. She even detoured off the chocolate pathway when some tea shops interested us and helped us with translations with the locals. She was kind, knowledgeable and very friendly. We had so many sweet treats which were included. I couldn’t recommend this tour enough! Definitely a highlight of my trip to Paris!

Chocolate heaven

Thibaut was a delightful host and guide. He took us to unique and special places we wouldn’t have found otherwise and shared with us the story of the families and chefs at each stop. We had lots of delicious treats and the quality of all of them was excellent - would highly recommend!

Relaxing tour through St. Germaine

We enjoyed the tour through St Germaine area. It was relaxing stroll through the beautiful streets. Our tour guide was Sebastian. He was knowledgeable on the area and took us to great spots to try sweets.

What a great tour!

This was so much fun! Our guide Thibaut was incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable. We were taken to a number of excellent chocolate and pastry shops, walked through beautiful areas and learned interesting bits of information as well. Thank you for a great tour Thibaut. We will definitely book another.

Lovely way to spend a few hours

I enjoyed the quality of the pastries and chocolates selected for us. Our tour guide provided background and history of the places we visited, explaining why each stop was special. Delicious!

Avoid this tour!

This was not at all what was described. We toured a church and received an explanation for all of the pictures. We went into a department store and got the history of the building. We walked for blocks to what was to be our last and most important stop. We got a tour of a grocery store and an explanation about champagne for sale and so on. None of these had anything to do with tasting. We got to sample 2 breads, a macoron, 2 kinds of mini chocolates and had to select with another person one of two types of mini pastries to split in half and share. It was a joke. The guide said he just picks places he wants to go to the day of the tour. Nothing is planned. One man was very unhappy that we were in his place. It was over $100 a piece and we got to taste two things in each of the three categories, one of which was shared with someone else in the tour group. I want a partial refund for me and my son. Lots of fast walking and touring other things to fill the time. We could have done this on our own in 45 minutes, gotten a lot more to taste and spent a fraction of the money. This should be avoided as it's false advertising and a waste of the and money. We were not the only ones in our group that thought this about the tour.

Amazing tour and experience

Our guide Olga was passionate about the area and gave detailed backgrounds on the people, places and sound. Most important though, the tastes. We sampled some breads, chocolates, pastries, coffees and had a delicious sandwich at a local bakery. We have a 10 and a 12 year old and Olga went out of her way to keep them engaged and interested throughout the tour. A great experience all around.

We got a TON of great...

We got a TON of great sweets on this tour but it was VERY long. I think it could have ended about an hour earlier. That said, it was again, a great deal with lots of different treats and a good sense of the neighborhood.

Delicious and fun tour!

So much fun with Roberto! We stopped at so many delicious places. One of the places was such unusual chocolate! He was very entertaining and the chocolates and pastries were amazing.

10 star guide

Tibo was a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide. He knew the ins and outs of the ingredients with careful experience. He also told us wonderful bits about about Paris while we walked. It was a lovely day for sure.

Pastry choco tour tastes magnifique!

Our tour guide was very aware of the best choices in each shop, and would guide us on where to purchase items. She was also very inspired by each of the shop owners, and added a lot of details for us fact-wise. We tasted some thing in every shop, and she just kept a mental tab on fairness and amounts to taste. Not a lot of eating but was enough to get a feel of the variety of main pastry and chocolates. Would have liked more of a variety of tastings per shop, but the experience of visiting top specialty shops was priceless. Each was delicate and artistic and delicious. Next time will be able to find them on my own and spend more time. Saw about 6-8 places plus a tea shop.

Get IGNORED if your group size is not big enough

I was in the tour with my two sons and ex husband. When it started we were the only ones there, as the other family in the tour was stuck in traffic. So the first chocolate stop was nice and informative. But once the family showed up (and had more people than us), our guide completely ignored us. It was awful. He did not even invite us to come into the shops. It was beyond words terrible so we actually left about half way through the tour (no we did not get a refund or even a partial refund). He clearly did not know how to balance multi participant tours. I would only do this tour if it is private. Otherwise you throw the dice if you will actually get included in the tour rather than have to “tag along and hover”.
