Brilliant fun

The piper and the caller was very patient and instructive . A good time was had by all. Would definitely recommend, a great evening, full of fun.

Lots of fun

We ate on the balcony, with it's superb view, then joined the ceilidh. The music (bagpipe and accordian, were good with clear instructions. The room was small and sweaty, fairly authentic, the dancing was enthusiastic and lots of fun. We joined in most of the dances, but you could sit out and watch. The musicians also played a couple of solo pieces and a girl dancer performed the highland fling and sailors hornpipe very well. The 2 hours flew by.

Not good

Too clumsy and chaotic. Too many people for such a small space. 10 pounds is a lot for this experience. Have been to many other better places

Disappointed

Not what we expected. Crowded room, poor service, band was okay . Very little Scottish dancing, more like western square dancing.

Learning new dance steps.

To hours of happy sweaty fun dancing. Music was good, the coaching was good, maybe we messed up the steps occasionally but all in all a great time. Highly recommend.

Not for Solo Travelers

I would absolutely NOT recommend this experience for a solo person. All the dances were for 2 people and it was disheartening to not be able to partake in this.

Scottish square dancing and circle dancing

They had a band including bag pipe and accordion. Great instruction to get us up and dancing successfully. Some short intermissions with a female highlands dancer. Didn't realize it was so much like American square dancing with do-si-do, alamande, etc. Circle dances like country barn dances. I didn't realize Virginia Reel and Boston two step are Scottish Ceilidh dances.

Oban was a beautiful place to visit - we wanted to experience some traditional Scottish dancing but was disappointed

Thought it would of had more dancers not just one girl dancing Every dance seemed the same We left half way through the evening

tourist trap

the musicians were great and the dance instruction was also good. The venue lacks character and feels so overly touristy.

The event was cancelled...

The event was cancelled after we travelled a lot of miles especially for the event. Viator took our money knowing full well the event was cancelled. I've already emailed to let you know and am still hoping I get this refunded. Obviously you asking me to comment on how good it was shows a lack communication in your system!!! So disappointing we travelled 400 mile for this trip and nothing to show for it!

If you participate it would be a fun night out.

Wasn’t what I thought it would be. It’s watching tourists learning to dance. It’s somewhat like American square dancing.

A fun night

We had attended ceilidhs previously, but not in Scotland. We had an idea of what to expect: lively music, skillful dancing and a boisterous audience. All three were present for us, plus a bonus. The band encouraged the audience to get to the dance floor to learn reels and similar dances. Although we didn't participate in this (old bones don't do well at that), it was fun to see everyone enjoying themselves as they danced to the quick beat. The musicians were very good, with an accordionist and a piper/drummer. The lass who danced was a joy to watch. We also ordered dinner. I had a delicious steak and sausage pie, but my wife's mushroom stroganoff was a disappointment. Although the wait staff were sympathetic about this, nothing else was done. In all, a fun night out.

Excellent fun night out. Ticked all the boxes

An excellent evening. Even if you don't want to join in the dancing the music is fabulous and the view over Oban Harbour at sunset is amazing. We did join in, were totally rubbish but it was such good fun. We haven't laughed so much in years. A great night out with a typical Scottish vibe.

Fun dancing

The dancing was so.much fun, watching or taking part we all enjoyed ourselves. This review needs 100 characters so I am filling up with nonsense.

Great fun, nowhere to sit

Great evening. Shame there weren't make chairs. Came with my two young kids who found it quite loud but eventually loved it. It was child friendly but this wasn't written the advert. Luckily I contacted the company. Really enjoyed it. So many people so was difficult to dance.

Lots of fun , recommend if you are up for a dance and a bit of interactive fun!

Really enjoyed the ceildh dancing. The atmosphere was superb. High energy and lots of fun. Sadly we could not see the professional dancers as we were not afforded a reserved table as billed on the booking. We were however given a partial refund which was much appreciated and had a super time dancing or trying to 🤣

Ok for a laugh and a bit of exercise

Good for a laugh. Didn’t expect the room to be so small though needs a bigger venue, very cramped when everyone get ups to dance got elbowed a few times and it was rather warm. The band was good and the girl that did the 3 or 4 dances was good. Didn’t eat at the view, just went for the dancing wasn’t quiet what we were expecting, for the cost you can’t expect a lot though.

An evening in Oban

Amazing experience!Great live music and enen novices like my husband and I could join in fully! Terrific hospitality and amazing food too! Definitely recommend!

Not what we expected

Thought this was going to be dancing with someone to help show how it’s done, it was a drunken free for all with 2 guys playing instruments just shouting out the moves, most people were so confused, the guys playing were fantastic though. We didn’t have a table as described and just managed to get some bar stools, very disappointing evening

Super Fun!

My husband and I took our daughter and her family to The View, where we had a lovely dinner and then and GREAT evening of music and dancing! Our 2 grand-daughters were surprised at how much fun they had. When we come back to Oban we're definitely doing this again!!

Fun Evening Scottish dance

We had an amazing time at this traditional Scottish dance. The caller made it easy for everyone to participate and everyone has fun. Highly recommend!

Great live traditional music

Good fun; loved the live music and perfect for those who want a traditional music vibe, to try the dances or just to watch and clap along. Great musicians and wonderful dancers!

Such a fun evening

Great value. The music was fantastic and they band leader talked everyone through the steps to various traditional dances. Young and old alike took to the dance floor. It was so much fun to watch. The view from “The View” restaurant is beautiful. The food was quite good also. Go for it!

Overpriced

Less people. Overpriced at £15 per person. We gave this a try and there where too many people in a small space to really enjoy the experience. The 3 musicians where excellent and explained the dance moves really well. The young girl who was doing the dance demonstrations was also very good at what she did. We had booked a meal which was very nice, but to then charge an extra £15 each when we where already there was in our opinion a bit greedy. I'm sure there where many other people that where there that wouldn't have paid the £15 entrance fee. We would not do it again.

Lots of fun! The music was great and they are very good at explaining the steps. Even if you don’t dance, it’s very entertaining to watch!

A truly wonderful evening with Scottish ceilidh and dancing too .

We stayed here on holiday purchased tickets for the ceiliah Scottish dancing experience with wonderful bagpipes played by super gentleman and cortian by another great guy The people all joined in bar Man too was absolutely fabulous seeing it and surrounded by a bunch of heart warming people. We loved it well worth it and drinks too at the bar

Oban ceilidh

From the minute we arrived we received a lovely welcome. The piper's,and band were great. The instructor was so good giving clear instructions on how to do the dances. It was such a laugh, well organised, great atmosphere. Great value for money bar prices were very good. Would definitely come again.

Music, dancing - great fun!

What a night!! We danced so much. And they taught the steps so well! The atmosphere was electric. Must do.

What a night

It was october so expected it to be quiet... but still an incredible atmosphere. Very lively, reasonable priced drinks and a good disco afterwards! Everybody was having a brilliant time, us included and would highly recommend to everyone!

“Heel and toe, heel and toe...”

Never done any Scottish dancing? Don’t know any of the old time dances? Here’s you chance to do both and have a ton of fun doing it! The band talks you through the dances before the music starts, then keeps up a running commentary throughout. The resulting controlled chaos is as much fun to watch as it is do. Everyone seems to have a great time and everything goes, girls dancing with girls, boys with boys, old with young. And all to toe-tapping music that gets your blood flowing and builds up your energy banks. Give it a go if you you get a chance!

Chaotic - but good fun

We booked online about an hour or so before the evening started. We were able to use the barcode on our phone for entry. The piper and the band were excellent. They explained the dances but with many non English speakers and a lot of youngsters it was a little chaotic. However everyone seemed to have a good time, we had forgotten how exhausting country dancing can be!

Dance like a loon

This is a brilliant night out where you will have a lot of fun. There were perhaps one hundred people in the hall with a great band whose leader quickly had folk up dancing. There was also some expert dancing and virtuoso instrument playing. You do not need to have any previous experience just get up and have some fun.

Ceilidh night

Fantastic evening with my husband and children 18 and 14. Friendly staff and great live music with bagpipes. The guy on the bagpipes was amazing. Lovely view over the harbour. A young girl came out and did a few Scottish dance routines and she was really good. The band got everyone up dancing. Scottish dance was taught clearly in simple steps in just a few minutes and then the music began and we all danced. Young and old were up dancing enjoying themselves. Nobody was perfect and that didn’t matter. Lots of laughing. Even managed to get my 14 year old son and 18 year old daughter up for a dance. An enjoyable evening had by all. Can’t wait until my next Ceilidh!!

What a great night out for young & old

What a great night out for young & old this event is, I could not believe how many people of all ages were having such a lot of fun & keeping fit at the same time. As a first time visitor, I was so pleased to recieve such a warm welcome and it was great to see such a mix of folks enjoying themselves and enjoying the great Scottish music whilst learning the dances that were carefully taught to the novices, to give all who wanted to, a chance to join in the fun. I've marked this as suitable for couples, but is also great for teens who are willing to "have a go" Book in advance for £9 or just roll up and pay £12 on the door. They also have a bar to provide the necessary lubrication! Definitely recommended!

Amazing Ceilidh Band

I wanted my sister to experience a Scottish Ceilidh, and this one fulfilled that goal nicely. The band was very talented and there were a couple dance/music performances mixed in to give us a break from dancing. People started leaving halfway through, so by the end the dance floor was pretty empty, but overall it was a good night.

we went to the ceilidh night on thursday 13/6/2019 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves It was really good to see so many young people joining in at the dancing. The chap who played the bagpipes was excellent would recommend this to anybody who is looking for a fun night out.

Thoroughly enjoyable 2hrs of learning some easy-to-do scottish dances. Enthusiastic and entertaining band and dance caller. Able to rest in between dances with dancing demonstrations. A fun way to spend a couple of hours.

Very funny

Tourist attraction but fun, you can laugh and dance with live music and choreography, especially worth doing in the absence of alternatives

Introduction aux ceilis mais pas du live music

L’accueil est chaleureux et l’accordéoniste est excellent. Le problème est qu’il n’y avait qu’un musicien et demi, l’autre en costume traditionnel était plutôt à la batterie très peu traditionnelle… ou au micro pour expliquer comment danser. Le spectacle est donc plutôt fait par les clients eux-mêmes. Il s’agit donc d’une espèce d’introduction aux Ceilis loin de la musique traditionnelle.

Graeme was een geweldige verteller!

Graeme kon geweldig vertellen op een hele leuke manier. Informatief maar zeker niet een saai verhaal. We waren van het begin tot het eind geboeid en hebben ook flink gelachen. Kortom een hele man om met door Edinburgh te wandelen en meer weetjes te horen.

Soirée très sympathique avec des écossais charmants

Nous avons eu un peu de mal à trouver la salle de "The View"car on ne pensait pas que ce serait à l'étage. Nous pensions assister à un spectacle de danse écossaise avec des "professionnels"...en fait, c'était encore plus sympa et inattendu : il s'agissait d'un club d'Oban dont les membres se réunissent régulièrement pour des soirées. Ce soir-là, pour Halloween, c'était une soirée de danses traditionnelles, déguisé ou nom, en kilt ou en personnage, comme "Charlie" d la série de livre "Trouve Charlie". Il y avait tous les âges représentés et une majorité de jeunes. Les musiciens, un clavier, un accordéon et une cornemuse (en costume traditionnel), menaient la danse en indiquant les pas à chaque morceau d musique. Tout le monde pouvait danser. Nous aurions pu aussi si nous n'avions pas été complètement " détruits" par notre journée de tourisme ! En tous cas, cela faisait vraiment plaisir de les voir tous s'amuser et rire tous ensemble. Tous ceux qui nous ont adressé la parole ont été charmants avec nous. Je ne regrette pas d'y avoir été. Si nous n'avions pas eu les jambes en coton, nous aurions pu nous intégré sans aucun problème.

Ich konnte mir zuvor nicht richtig vorstellen was unter Ceilidh Nacht zu verstehen ist....nun wenn man möchte ist man mitten drin...zumindest war es in Oban so. Wenn man möchte kann msn jederzeit mittanzen oder aber auch zusehen. Wie die Tänzschritte sind wird jeweils vor dem Tanz erklärt...und meistens geht es dabei lustig zu...nun eir fanden es richtig toll und werden sicher wieder zu einem Tanz gehen..

Een leuke gelegenheid om de lokale Schotse muziek en dansavond mee te maken, maar voor toeristen zou het nog leuker geweest zijn als er wat meer professionele dansers mee zouden doen.

È una serata danzante. Tu sei il protagonista e non sei uno spettatore. Molta gente del luogo si riunisce per danzare al suono delle cornamuse, non è uno spettacolo è un luogo in cui la gente va per ballare. Si balla la tradizione scozzese. Una sorta di discoteca della tradizione scozzese. D'altronde Ceilidh indica un incontro che avveniva una volta al mese tra gli scozzesi di una zona si riunivano per fare festa e danzare, e questo si fa durante la serata! Bella esperienza!
