The scuba diving itself was good

Well the experience of scuba diving was good cause that was my first time, they explained first then we started slowly, but the location was very dirty, they told me go to that toilet and exchange but it was horrible I couldn’t stand that toilet and upstairs in Tulamban, they also told me order lunch when you’re coming from forst trial to have it, the food was horrible 🤮 , chicken sandwich was like a bland dry chicken in the middle of toaster without anything. I can just say that maybe the experience was unique under water, but my ears started to ache under that pressure, and almost 3 h driving back to my hotel very boring traffic, I can say the whole Bali is not what you see in media, very filthy!

Very good

Diving is very good and the attraction of the ship is enormous. Done from shore, you swim for less than 5 minutes to the sunken ship. I recommend. Some points: - Distance from Kuta. It's 3 hours there and three hours back by car. - There are two dives in the same place and can be done by people of all experience levels: beginners, intermediates (like me) and advanced levels. - Obviously the second dive is much better than the first. - There is no video or photo of the dive. If you have a camera, you can pass it on to the guide that goes with you. If not, you need to rent from another company. Finaly, I think it’s really worth it for all levels of diving experience. an easy-to-explore shipwreck with incredible marine life.

Breathtaking and Stunning First Dive

I loved my scuba instructor! He was so calm and we spent a lot of time underwater. It was my first time and he made me feel very safe. The shipwreck is absolutely worth seeing and you can see all the underwater growth. I loved the option to purchase the pictures and videos at the end of the tour. Make sure to bring enough cash!

Terrible first time diving experience

The dive master is toxicated you can smell alcohol from his breath, so irresponsible. He would ignore the diver’s level and insist to go further out of the sea

We were beginners and our guide did great explaining everything. He made sure he was with us the whole time and kept checking if we were good.

Beautiful

Came and picked us up from Canggu even though it was out of the pick up area. Great service and the dive was amazing. The coral over the shipwreck was so vivid and beautiful and lots of beautiful marine life and saw a sea turtle! My partner and I had a great day. Would highly recommend staying closer to Telumban though to avoid a long drive.

Fun experience, about 2.5 hour drive from Ubud, but overall had a great time. Private instructor for the two of us. Felt comfortable and had a practice dive prior to the “big” dive. Suitable for beginners!

Must do in Bali

Amazing!! They were so helpful! We had never been scuba diving before and there were no issues. Our driver was by our side the entire time making sure everything was going smoothly. Seeing the fish and the ship wreck was the coolest experience! We got to see a lot of the natural islands on the way over. Great thing to do to not be in an area swamping with other tourists.

Do it if you love shipwreck diving

Highly recommend! Pick up and drop off from hotel was great. Dive masters were very experienced and equipment was great. Loved this dive site and the whole day. Don't get ripped off on the underwater camera, it should cost 300k for the divemaster and their group

Fantastic experience

The most amazing experience! Got to see a sea turtle too, up close. This was my first time diving and the guide was fantastic. Explained everything clearly and made sure I was okay at all times. Felt completely safe. All round fantastic day and highlight of my Bali trip. Would do again.

An absolute MUST do in Bali!

AmazIng experience! Definitely worth the 3 hour drive from Seminyak. Truly the highlight of my trip!! Made was an awesome dive guide! Took excellent care of me as a solo female traveler. I felt totally safe and he knows the terrain well. He was nice enough to stop and purchase some street food on the way there when I mentioned I liked Indonesian food and even arranged to rent an underwater camera for my dive when he learned I forgot mine. Very cool! The visibility was so good - crystal clear water. The current is strong in some places but not worrisome. A great location to dive for both experienced and new divers. The drive there and back was also a nice opportunity to see more of Bali including jungle, rice terraces, the Mt. Agung volcano, and monkeys! This really is a can’t miss opportunity if you’re in Bali. So worth the small price paid. A definite 10/10!

Best experience ever

It was the best experience of my life.it was my first time diving and i was a bit apprehensive at first but do to our diving instructor i learned very quickly how to relax and enjoy everything about the dive.i felt very safe and well taken care of.madi our instructor deserves all the praises for taking us under this magical place that is created on the shipwreck.because of him i will go diving again.

Really fun wreck dive. It’s a fairly remote location so anticipate a long drive to get there but the diving was fun! Very straight forward and unchallenging dive. Good for beginners!

The best trip whatever

Its was amazing trip. Before, i didnt have dive experience. But, the service provided is very good, because dive master have so profesional skills, and management was at a very high level. Location for dive is interesting, its not just ship... Its big undewater world! Also, i want to say big thanks for my driver (Satria), which nice arranger and manage my time, and my adventure was profesional with fun of sense and exitment!

Personalised and amazing diving experience

This is my first diving experience, but everything is going very smooth. My hotel located in Ubud and the tour leader took me to the diving spot directly with a private car. (I know many of other tours they do a Van...). Many thanks to the tour leader Uliantara. He has a very nice driving skills and he is very friendly and helpful. During our conversation, I told her I don’t really like Indonesian food because I don’t eat spicy, then during the lunch he even informed the kitchen to prepare a special meal with no spicy for me! What a personal touch. On the other hand, the diving master is absolute professional, to guide my first diving experience so well! With his private tutorial, I can see how pretty they are under the water, as well as the shipwreck is amazing too. They have prepare all the equipments while you only need to prepare your mood to enjoy. Some little tips to book the camera service since it’s absolute a good idea to leave some nice memory there!

Ship with fish

beautiful people who want to feel good. The ship is full of fish many types little, big , with colors or simply gray . the experience is worth all the money. Our diver was very calm, nice , careful with my boyfriend because for he was the first time underwater. If you have the GoPro take it with you because to rent one is a little expensive. The driver speaks pretty good English.

Best memories from Bali

This is the best thing we do in Bali during 14 days. Tour management is in high level. comfortable car pick up us form hotel and then drop off to hotel. I want to say special thanks to our driver. He is the best driver, he drive fast and very professional. Thanks to Obama, our driver, he help us in every step 😘 and thanks to our guide. Thank you guys for best memories during our trip.

Scuba Diving - Hidden Treasure in Bali

Diving here in Tulamben Bali is a very unique experience, The USAT Liberty Shipwreck is quite famous actually and its home to some small animals and attracts big animals as well. It acts as a pseudo coral reef. The interesting thing is that it is a couple of meters below the surface, Normally sites this big are far beneath the surface but not in this case. The shipwreck in 125 meters long so there are lot of sea animals and a lot to experience. It’s probably the only ship in the world sunk by an active volcano. The Tulamben wreck is amazing and if you are in Bali you should check it out. Thanks to Bali Sun Tours for the amazing experience the equipment provided was of international standard, Balinese lunch was delicious and hotel pickup service was also provided.

Outstanding experience with bali sun

a very pleasant experience with Bali sun tours. this is our first trip to Bali. the service provided is very good, the dive master is very patient and the diving location is very impressive. although there are few obstacles due to rain, but our activities continue to run smoothly. thank you very much for an unforgettable experience.

Great workers poor management - trying to rip me off

This review was difficult to write because the dive and the dive master himself was very good. Very patient with me, as I am not a confident diver. The reason for the bad review - Management. Two day before the dive two of my daughters became sick. I immediately sent an message to management and explained that 2 of them were not able to dive. His response was that there would be no problem. Later I ask what the adjustment would be, ( I am thinking he would credit the cost of two divers). He said he would have all the paperwork the day of the dive. I told him to please let me know because we were still able to cancel for a full refund if necessary, as I did not want to be charge for all 6 when only 4 were diving. The manager send me a message saying that all is ok for the 2 to cancel and will show me the adjustment when they get us. My mistake for not getting confirmation on paper or on line earlier. When the day came the driver and dive master was very professional but had no idea what I was talking about. He called his manager and then said he said to buy you an extra lunch and call it evens. I said are you kidding, the lunch cost $4 US at most and the diving was about $75 US a person, how can that be justified. He said his manager would take care of it, and said lets go diving. I was between a rock and a hard place. I am already there with my family and limited in time. So four of us went diving, it was very nice. My two daughter tried snorkeling and were too ill, so they sat and just waited for us. I email and text the rest of the evening and the next day with no response. Finally when I said I would contact my credit card, I get a response saying I would get a $16 credit when I asked him to justify the amount again silence. I said I would challenge the charge and then a response. It's a shame because the workers where actually very nice and helpful. I would not recommend a place like this because clearly the dishonesty and lack of communication is not worth the headache.

Memories that will last forever :)

Take this words from someone that has never dived before. Expect a painful and very typical winding three hour drive from ubud to Tulambem (USS liberty shipwreck) and after picking two other divers... a rookie and a certified diver from Malaysia we arrived to the destination. At the begining I was a bit unsure about the safety and outcome of the experience, but once in the site and after ordering a very simple lunch that consists of a limited choice of Indonesian traditional meals and average drinks like soft drinks or teas we get started ... We got given wet suits that fitted accordingly... all of a sudden got really anxious after realizing I hadn't bring my contact lenses... mentioned this to the instructors and they were quick to find me an appropriate mask to fix my blindness... During the day everything that was necessary was provided. The experience begins now... instructions we very concise, mainly mentioning underwater movement and events like water in your mask, ear and respiration events which I thought could be a bit scary considering your life is from the moment you step into the ocean on their hands... (Only after getting out the first time I realized nothing had to be feared, since underwater, my Spanish would have never made sense to an Indonesian patient and smiley man).... So my partner and me get into the ocean holding the instructors hands on a rocky, bouldery type of beach... Make our way into the water without too much trouble... spin... jackets inflate for our safety and we are now being helped to adjust mask and flippers....We get told to put respirator in our mouths and as I think we are having a bit of understanding about the functioning of the equipment we start diving in... We don't quite stop, which makes me a bit alarmed as both my respiration gets adjusted to the assisted mouth breathing, my ears deal with the pressure changes and my mask slowly seems to get more and more water. I signal Yanto to communicate all this issues several times and patiently and as slowly as everything else seems to be happening underwater every issue gets solved... Every meter we go down I start to appreciate more and more things as both my body and mind ease and give way to an unprecendted trust for my life. The fish are bright , absolutely every bit seems alive and moves either with the oceans currents or because life pulsates through every living entity... even the shipwreck seems alive, colonized by and array of tiny, fragile and perfect creatures. All of sudden as we part from the shipwreck and start making our way through the rocks our jackets inflate and we emerge amongst waves and a very cloudy sky. There's no evidence of such diversity on that new grey world. I feel I had just experienced an outworldly event and take a few minutes to adapt. Change my mask and place my glasses to find our instructor bringing our food and drink... I chose a nasi goreng with fried egg and it comes garnished with shrimp crackers a slice of tomato and cucumber all of these with the common black sugar sold around the world. We enjoy our meal slowly... surrounded by divers and the usual number of sales men that hover around tourism in most paradisiac places, sunnies, shirts and caps are offered as I think about the next dive. Our instructor approaches, asked if our meal was good and if we are ready to go back into the perfect and unexpected realm of weightlessness. Same process we get belt, fins, mask, vest with tank and hoses and with a slow penguin like walk we make our way into the water. This time I'm much more confident I slide my feet into the fins, clean and adjust my mask, place the mouth piece by myself as Yanto and my partner do theirs. Back to Y's bycep and side by side we beging submersing, this time I do not worry about my ears or mask I feel confident to deal with those simple problems so I give myself the opportunity to delight my eyes with absolutely everything that surrounds me... I am now fully present, not thinking or remembering anything from the surface. Is all about mouth breathing and exploration, this time we get closer to the ship and go in and around the vessel as if we belonged to the crew... The diversity is astonishing, the amount of colors present in those fish makes most of them unique, even when looking at a bank, then there's all those unnameable corals growing from the ship addosed almost by design, sometimes I wondered whether it was some rusty steel part or a living layer... We saw big fish this time... Few dozens of lion fish dancing at their singular rythms, a tiger fish the size of my head, stingrays and many more besuties I unfortunately can not name... the connection with the ocean is so present even when evidently I don't belong there, I want to stay and witness all that silent beauty for hours, unfortunately the tanks seem to be running out of oxygen and the 20 minutes that seemed to transcur slower than usual get to an end.... We now trek into the mountain back in our air-conditioned wheeled box amongst rice terraces and precarious architectures and I think this has got to be one of the best experiences in my 34 years in the planet.

Very good dive!

Been to great barrier rift, the amount of fishes are more than GBR, but it has way lesser species. The dive masters are really good and professional, albeit a little “quiet” but it maybe due to language barrier. The dive site is amazing, participants need not be certified divers but it helps speed things up alot. Be warned: Area has little people diving as the car journey to location is no less than 3 hours (one way). The lunch is okay too. The toilets facilities are also very limited. So try not to eat too much pre and during tour/dive.

1 day diving trip

Booked the trip with transport and was fetch by Mr. Wayan Lisa. Long journey but was smooth and safe. Patience is one of the key point driving in Bali and I strongly recommend Mr. Wayan Lisa I’d you need a driver there. Cheers!

Diving to US Liberty Wrack

We (2) had an amazing privat diving trip at Tulamben. Two dives and lunch afterwards were included. The first dive was to corals and fishes etc. as training and the second was to the US Liberty Wrack. Both were an amazing experience. We got a warm welcome and our guide Made was nice, friendly, helpful and took special care of me while diving. I felt secure and save all the time. Due to the reason that we are beginners he gave us instructions upfront and was patient all the time. For an additional small price we got many underwater pictures in high quality which are worth it. Great experience I absolutely recommend!

Easy and Fun Shore Dive

This dive was a lot of fun. The beach is set up for quick access to the dive and everything felt pretty easy. In addition to checking out the USS Liberty wreck, we saw two sea turtles, several large blue starfish, many sea snakes, and countless beautiful fish. We were picked up from our hotel in Ubud and driven to the dive site (about 2.5 hours away). The dive guide was very nice, but I wouldn't recommend this for your first time diving (they allow beginners with no previous experience). My sister had never been open water diving before and the guide didn't give explanation or instruction for anything, so instead I helped her (I'm a fairly new diver as well, so this wasn't ideal). I'd only do this if you have at least a few dives under your belt. If you do, you'll have a great experience!

Solo dive

I had such a great experience with this dive! The driver was so friendly for pickup and dropoff. My instructor went at my pace and was there to make me feel comfortable during my first dive!

Amazing!!

Had the best time on this day tour!! The drivers Beno and Nang Lisa picked me up in Ubud and drove me all the way to and back from Tulamben after the diving. They were really really friendly and definitely gave a wonderful touch to my day!! The diving was pretty cool as well. The shipwreck is AMAZING and my DM also brought me to some kind of sunken Buddhist temple which was completely unexpected. Would 10000%recommend!!

Absolutely Brilliant

My friends and I had a great time - it was the first time diving for most of us and the dive masters were brilliant. They split us off into smaller groups, 2 divers to 1 dive master, and they walked us through all the safety and key elements for the dive. They made sure to do it slowly to ensure we felt safe and comfortable even before entering the water. Under the water, they also checked in consistently and would stop at any stage to help with any issues. During the dive itself, we got up close to the wreck, swam through it, saw lots of fish, coral, and other sea critters. We loved our dive masters Baron and Mister Obama - they were SO much fun and took great care of us. Outside of teaching us to dive, they shared about local Indonesian culture. It was a brilliant experience and well worth the time!

Amazing first time SCUBA diving experience

It was my first time ever diving and it was definitely my number 1 holiday highlight in Bali. The instructor was very patient and calm with us and made me feel secure under water. We saw a 2nd world war shipwreck, a turtle, octopus and other see fauna and flora. Unforgettable dive!!! And for the first timer it was WOW! Our dive will also be accepted towards further diving learning should we wish to continue and get certified.

10/10 best first dive experience

My Girlfriend and I haven’t dived before and she’s not Super confident swimmer however our dive instructor, Baron, was super helpful. He guided us step by step and made it Super easy. He also helped us take photos. The coral, eco-system, fish life is flourishing and the ship wreck itself was surreal! again amazing experience! The team were Super helpful! FYI - traffic in Bali is terrible, so prepare for a Long ride back, bring a towel, jumper and cash!!!

Amazing dive experience

It was my first dive and my partners second! We felt very comfortable and at ease with Wayan! The diving was amazing! Even lucky enough to dive with a Turtle! We were picked up by Madeles from our Villa near Lovina and he was an absolute pleasure, pointing out points of interest and giving us information on the Balinese culture! Would highly recommend Madeles and would 100% use him again!

Super cool dive 👌🏻

Super cool dive with Wayan today, we started at the coral garden and saw many fish (so many clown fish in the little sea bush). Then we head to the ship wreck for the second dive. So impressive to swim in the middle of the ship and to see polpo and more fish (less than at the coral garden though). Our driver Wayan Lisa picked and drove us and was very cool to chat with.

Beautiful dive

I did the Full-Day Scuba Dive and was picked up from Ubud. The dive spot is incredible! All of the fish and coral are so vibrantly colored under the water. The amount of biodiversity in the water is stunning as well. You can barely tell that the ship is a ship anymore because everything is beautifully covered in coral. I’m not sure what made everything seem to glow, but it did. I’ve snorkeled in Hawaii multiples times and I’d say I liked this dive more. The dive shop I went to was Wayan Dive Tulamben Bali. Wayan wasn’t the most friendly because he said he didn’t know English very well, but it didn’t matter. He was a great guide once in the water and luckily I felt comfortable scuba diving even though I’m not certified. After walking into the water from the shore, the dive is quite easy. It was about a 2 and a half hour drive from Ubud but the scenery on the way towards Tulamben is beautiful, so I didn’t mind at all. Also, my driver, Wayan Juli, was awesome! I grilled him with questions about Balinese culture and we ended up talking for most of the ride each way. He made the entire trip so much more enjoyable! He embodies the true, warm-hearted, hospitable people of Bali.

Great experience, awesome dive masters

My wife and two teenage boys had never been diving before. I didn't know what to expect, but was really happy with our dives. Our two divemasters, Baron and Rikki, were great. They took the time to explain everything in detail from how to dive to the dive plan. My wife had problems with her ears that made her uncomfortable and almost panic struck but Baron stuck with her the entire time, holding her by his hand and making sure she was safe and could experience this amazing dive. We paid the extra fee for them to take video and pictures, can't wait to get home to see them. It looks like most the dive shops in the area use the same dive resort facilities. The dives are the same, the food is the same (noodles and egg was great), so when picking a tour, it really comes down to the people and these guys were amazing. I don't remember our driver's name but he was just as great. Overall, this was a fantastic family experience.

Not for new divers!

The USAT Liberty wreck is NOT for first time divers. In fact, I would recommend having at least 5 or 6 dives under your belt before attempting this. This was the second dive my husband and I, and it was VASTLY different than what we experienced in Okinawa, Japan. First, this is a shore dive and VERY difficult due to the rocks and current while carrying/wearing all your gear. The shoes I had were too big and got rocks in them so I kept falling walking into the ocean. Our dive masters clearly knew what they were doing, but their English was limited so it wasn't always easy understanding the safety brief. I believe my husband and I had an apprentice dive master who was markedly younger. He did a great job taking the underwater photos, but I felt my husband and I were expected to know exactly what to do, which we didn't. I will say that I was actually scared for a second! I ended up getting stung by fire coral and I panicked as this is not something I've ever experienced. The dive master was trying to tell me underwater that I'd be okay but I demanded to ascend so I could tell my husband. I'm sure I looked like a ridiculous fool! Please note that the wet suits are not full length, so be careful when scuba diving here! I learned my lesson and will only use full length wet suits from now on. The dive is split into two. First dive is just to get adjusted and look around and the second dive is to go to the wreck. In total, the dives were about 40 minutes. The second dive was markedly better as I knew what to expect and I was able to ensure the sting I got was going to okay. The lunch was tasty--do NOT get the sandwich. Get the fried rice or fried noodles--you'll be very disappointed if you don't. We met a lovely couple who did the dive with us. My husband's oxygen ran out quickly on the second dive so I felt it was short lived, but I definitely experienced my share of a shore dive! Our driver was A+! He was so friendly and prompt, and watched our belongings as we dived. It was a long, long drive for us from Uluwatu, but he made it pleasant. I do recommend this dive if you are equipped to do a shore dive and have experience.

Absolutely delighted. We booked this dive mostly so that my PADI certified partner could get a look underwater here in Bali. I've only done one previous dive, about ten years ago. My skills were limited and rusty to say the least. Barong and Ari are such a great team - they not only got me in the water (willingly), but Barong patiently convinced me to give the dive itself a try (I chickened out). That man is simply an amazing instructor - thanks to Barong I did the initial and second dive and saw many, many cool and new to me things. My partner had a good time and was able to relax. Honestly I can't say enough good things about this company and specifically the instructors we had for the day. Totally recommend.

Fantastic Trip and amazing dive

This was probably the best scuba dive i've ever done. Only an amatuer diver, however the USS Shipwreck was a fantastic experience. This was my brothers first dive, and we both felt very comfortable under the water with our instructor :) Long round trip from Seminyak, however totally worth it!

5 Star Experience- Good for new divers too!

The tour we specifically had was Full-Day USS Liberty Shipwreck Scuba Diving in Tulamben on March 24, 2018. I am an experienced SCUBA diver, but my boyfriend has never done SCUBA. We were staying south in Kuta, but had a private driver which gave us the added scenic tour along the coast of Bali on the way to and from the dive site. First, our private driver, Wayan Lesi, was a very safe driver. As an American tourist, this long drive with a safe driver was VERY important to me enjoying my day. I highly recommend this driver! Next, our dive master, Ketut Harmawa, with the Warung ESA Tulamben Dive Company, was very professional. His dive shop was very clean and his equipment was in good, well-maintained order. Again, as someone from the United States, these were important things to notice in an International Dive Shop. He made our experience feel safe and he (and his son) went above and beyond to treat us as VIP's. He gave private instructions to my boyfriend and modified our first dive to a shallow, coral reef and sunken statue garden. With a more shallow depth of about 30 feet, our tank lasted a long time and my boyfriend was able to fee very comfortable in the water. Our second dive we did the wreck which was absolutely breathtaking. The dark sand must do something to the absorption of light because the colors were spectacular. Another bonus is the dive master took all of our photos and videos for us, so we have some amazing footage together underwater. We paid a little extra to rent the high-quality underwater camera and I still used my GoPro as an extra. It was worth the extra cost to capture the experience if you don't own a high-quality camera of your own. After the dives we enjoyed a nice lunch prepared by the dive master's wife. A beautiful family who treated us like VIP's all day long. We also bought a few t-shirts from a local kid, but our dive master was very protective of keeping the flock of people trying to sell us stuff at bay. This was a nice extra so we could really just relax and enjoy our day. Our dive trip was spectacular. We felt very safe the whole time. We loved visiting Bali and this day was one of the best experiences to date.

Amazing dives

I did 3 dives in here all together (1 night dive) with Dream Divers from Amed. Great visibility, warm water and amount of marine life makes this place perfect spot! The dive takes place from shore - easy access.As a very popular spot number of divers is overwhelming on the first glance, I got kind of worried that it's gonna be very crowded underwater but it wasn't bad at all. Plenty of space for everyone. Highly recommended!
