Wonderful Experience

The palace was amazing and our guide was very knowledgeable about the history. We also enjoyed the walking tour of the surroundings and learning about some of Madrid's most notable landmarks.

Great tour!

Great experience seeing the palace! Having the guide for the town square and market, skipping the line and the tips throughout the palace was worth it! She was very knowledgeable and pointed things out we would have never known on our own!!

Great Tour

We were so fortunate to be able to go inside the palace and see the tour (the palace was closing the following day for 10 days). Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and provided a ton of facts about each room! Highly recommend this tour!

Good tour but not as promoted

Tour was fine & guide good but... 1. Advertised as small group with no more than 11 or people. Started with 30 people then split into 2 groups, ours with 16 people. 2. Tour start time was 3.15pm but we had to wait half an hour standing on a busy street in a queue before the tour started.

Royal Palace Madrid

Great visit / informative and fun tour. It was really nice to be part of a small group with a tour guide who was knowledgeable and witty!

It was a great trip and guide is very detail and knowledge about the history. Definitely will recommend this trip!

Guided Tour to get the basics before you explore more

The Royal Palace is a lot to take in and really warrants a couple of trips. I think a guided tour is a great way to get your bearings and get a taste of the history. Following it up with a self-paced tour where you can really explore the rooms, decor, etc. would be perfect.

Fun late afternoon tour

This was a good tour and lasted about 90 min. We had a guide that provided us with headsets and it was well worth it. Watch out for other groups butting in

Don't do it

The worst tour we have ever done. Guide spoke only broken English and none of the group could understand her. She spoke from a script and added nothing to the experience. We would have been better on our own. What a waste of money!

Glad we saw palce

Not sure of guide's name - we did some walking around before Palace which was interesting. Palace is incredible.

Great Tour

Well worth the money. Our guide was very knowledgeable and spoke extensively on the history of the palace and its occupants. Skip the line was great as the general line extended completely across the Plaza and our 15 person group got through security in less than five minutes.

Small group tour was cancelled without notice

The tour was interesting and the tour guide was knowledgeable. However we originally booked a small group tour and was not informed that the small group tour was cancelled until we were at the meeting point! The tour company is the problem not the tour guide !

No Accommodation for Older Adults

The tour guide was nice and knowledgeable but there was no understanding of having senior citizens with us. I had my parents (in their 80s) and my toddler with me, but the tour guide was walking and leading the group like we are all teenagers. It was so speedy that my parents and my child couldn’t keep up. I asked a few times but it seemed that people in the group didn’t like to walk slower to let us to get engaged.

Sara was the best tour guide. Made our Madrid experience very special. The Palace tour is not to be missed.

Very thorough tour of the palace

Our guide Beatrice was very knowledgeable. Her english was very good and she was very generous with the amount of information shared with us. The length of the tour was perfect and provided us with a very good overview of the palace and the history of it.

Madrid palace expedited entry

The tour itself was very good, informative, and interesting. While we did have skip the line tickets we did still have to wait in line outside for about 20 minutes before entering the palace. I thought the start of the tour was a little disorganized as there were about 6 groups meeting at the same place and time. We all had to line up and one by one check in with the main office. This would have been ok if these were really small group tours, but each tour had about 25 people including ours. Once things got moving the tour itself was what I was expecting and hoped for

Disappointing Tour

I signed up for small group tour with a maximum of 11 people and we had 20 in our group. We were treated and processed like a pack of sheep. The guide we had talked non stop flat out. Very disappointing. It would have been much better to stand in line to buy a ticket and get your own audio tour. The Royal Palace is magnificent but this tour detracted from our experience.

Better guide needed

While the palace is worth seeing, our guide’s lack of fluency in English made the explanations hard to understand and chaotic, even if you had prepped for the visit.

My what we expected.

We bought these tickets because the description said “small group”, no more than 11 people. There were 15 people. There was no reason to meet at their office as we had to walk to the palace. Took 10 minutes. We then had to stand in a security line. Should have the meeting point to be where the tour starts. They just wanted people to buy souvenirs from their shop. The audio was very poor. Our guide Beatrice was wonderful but she had to change everyone’s channel on our audio as we lost co tact with her. Won’t book with this company again

Very nice tour of Royal Palace. Short walking tour before the palace was informative. Great tour guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Tour was a bit rushed, and no bathroom break.

Amazing Palace and a terrific guide!

This tour was all that and more. The Place is stunning and is a must see. Our guide Sarah was really knowledgeable and managed the group wonderfully. She made the history come to life with the right amount of detail.

Top #3 Thing To Do In Madrid!

Local English speaking guide was very good and knowledgeable. We met at their office conveniently located adjacent to the Plaza Mayor where the listening devices were distributed. The group of x24 was quite large, but that didn’t seem to matter for the 30min ramble through the points of interest on the way to the Palace. The Guide kept us all together and shared lots of interesting & useful tips along the way. When we arrived, we joined the Tour queue, which moved fairly quickly. We were joined by a couple of other guides and divided into x3 smaller groups for the Palace Tour. Once inside our guide carefully manipulated our tour to give us the best vantage points and time for photos at key locations, which was was quite an achievement given the huge number of visitors & other tours swarming through the Palace at the same time Having done many walking tours, one thing that did stand out was our guide’s tendency to walk & talk where appropriate, rather than having long periods of standing around and talking, which can be tedious Overall a great experience (and an amazing venue), probably a top #3 Thing To Do in Madrid. We also viewed the (included) Armoury Exhibition at the end which I’d definitely recommend not to skip

Palace was the best part!

Walking part of tour started with approximately 30 people (despite it being advertised as a 'small' group tour) and our guide was difficult to hear. It then broke off into smaller groups at the Palace. The palace was a great experience and our young female guide was interesting to listen to.. it was one of the busiest days in the Palace she had ever seen. Also be aware.. our total cost was converted into US$ instead of it being in AUD :(

Scam

Scam. 30+ people in the “small group” tour. This “palace tour spent over an hour wandering the city so they could recommend restaurants.

Not a good tour

“Skip the Line” was not. Waited in line 30 minutes to go in. Tour guide’s English was difficult to understand. Tour guide was smirky, and condescending to women. The Palace was lovely, but much too crowded.

Informative

It was a good experience but the headphones did not work very well so that part was a bit unfortunate. Overall knowledgeable guide just too many people and not good hearing.

Would Have Preferred Smaller Group

Our guide was very informative, provided great insights to various rooms and buildings. My only complaint is the size of the group was much too large -- around 30 guests -- to manage well and have a collaborative engagement with the guide. And because the group was large and this is an extremely popular place, people in the group would occasionally wander.

Enjoyable

Enjoyed our walk through the plaza and Palace. Pilar provided many interesting facts and got us interested in Spanish history to go back to hotel and researched further. The headphones crackled at a few points, possibly when we were near other guides but since we were a small group Pilar was able to talk to us without the headset and we could hear her fine.

We loved the tour. Our tour guide, Letty was incredibly knowledgeable. I learned so much! The palace was beautiful and I’m so glad we joined her group! Viator is lucky to have her!

Good tour, but didn't get what ws paid for

Paid a premium for small group skip-the-line, and art was neither. In fact, had to waiting in line over 40 minutes, causing us to have to leave the tour early to get to another engagement.

Definitely skip the line on holidays

Skip the line is the way to go. Our tour guide was very informative. After touring the inside of the palace be sure and visit the armory, it is included in the tour. You can see all the horse armor ready battle and parades.

Beautiful places to see, not a skip the line tour

Our tour guide was very good. He was very knowledgeable. However, this was suppose to be a skip the line tour and we waited in line for an hour to get in. Very disappointed to have to wait in a crowd standing that long.

Bad experience!!

Well we were to have a small group tour of less than 12 and we had 22. We had skip the line and waited 45 minutes in line for the entry. We arrived 45 minutes early and weren’t told about the group size or offered to change our tickets. When I complainer, they wanted to tell me the Palace changed the rules TODAY!! Do they think I am stupid…. At the palace there were private tours, tours with 4 people, etc! DON’T USE THIS COMPANY!! Lies

Switch and bait

We paid for a small group, 11 or less people. . We were in a group of 23. The tour group leader said the company does this often. Viator offered no refund or partial refund. They ignore the actual facts and rely on the tour operators response. I actually have pictures of the 21 people on the tour with us two, but somehow according to the local tour operator I was in a small group. Beware.

Lovely experience, great deal

Iris was wonderful- she kept everyone very engaged on the tour was also very accommodating to the physical needs of our group members (handicapped).

Long lines

This certainly wasn’t a skip the line tour. We waited in line for a very long time and never got in to the palace.

Palace Visit

Palace visit was great and our guide was very sweet. Check in at the tour location was somewhat chaotic and desk attendant was very rude to others. The tour starts off with a walking tour of other palaces and monuments and you really do skip the line. There is a side entrance for groups. The individual entrance looked like Disneyland. For that alone, I would go in with a group. Palace was beautiful. Would recommend it as a stop during your time in Madrid.

30 people on an 11 person tour.

First we received a message changing our time from 10am to 1pm due to over booking. We arrived for our small group tour but we were sent out in a group of 30. After returning I checked and what we paid for was a maximum of 11 in the group.

Terrible day at the palace

Not the operators fault, however for some reason the palace was over crowded and we waited over an hour. Once we got close to the entrance, we were informed that our tour was canceled. Even though we were told no one would be getting in, there was over 500 people behind us still in line. We were asked to return our headsets and we would be refunded and then the guide left us. I believe due to the issue at the palace the tour operator had other reservations after ours that forced them to cancel ours. We understand from our tour guides this was an issue for all tours that day. Very unfortunate.

NO SUCH THING AS A SKIP THE LINE TICKET!!

Hear me. There is no such thing as a Skip the Line ticket at the palace. It's not the tour guide's fault, so I don't want to give less than a 3 rating, but we waited in the "tour" line for well over an hour. The palace tour was impressive, but clearly a Versailles wanna-be.

It was a warm day and the palace was crowded

Our guide was very informative. We met at our meeting point and the line was very long. It was a very busy day with lots of tourists. I think it’s best to tour with a small private group and tour guide needs English speaking because it’s hard to understand even when they can speak English.
