Stonehenge & Avebury Day Trip

Very enjoyable and interesting. I’ve been to Stonehenge before but pairing it with Avebury gave a new perspective and put it in context with the history of the area. This tour also gave us sufficient time to visit the sites. Michel was a great tour guide. My husband and I learned a lot from him and he was fun.

Day trip to Stonehenge

It was a fantastic day trip to Stonehenge. Very pleasant drive by driver Michel. Very patient and very entertaining with a good sense of humour. Lucky to have him as our guide/driver. Planning to come again with the family and hopefully we can have Michel again.

West Kennett, Avebury and Stonehenge

I attempted to review this trip right after it ended but I had trouble with internet and doing it on my phone. So I apologize if this is a duplicate. We loved our tour to West Kennett, Avebury and Stonehenge with Michael(spelling?) on May 12, 2024. He was a wonderful guide....informative and entertaining. Great way to see Stonehenge!

You’ve got to see Stonehenge at least once in your life!

Our guide Mikhael was knowledgeable and funny. We had a blast seeing Avebury and Stonehenge. Unfortunately the long barrows were flooded (and had been for months) so please inquire directly with the tour operator if that’s high up on your list. Otherwise it was a great time and the bus was comfortable,

Great tour lots of history and beautiful scenery

Brendan was an excellent guide and a superb driver. We left right on time. He pointed out lots of good stuff along the way. I really enjoyed his guided tour of Avebury: just enough nerdy history to show he loved the topic. We felt well cared for during the whole trip. I would definitely ride with him again!

A great history tour with local flavor (er flavour)

Loved it! Felt like walking in the steps of history. Brendan was an excellent guide. Just nerdy enough that you felt like you got a history lesson from someone who loved the topic. Plenty of dad jokes along the way. Super safe driver.

Michel is great! Sacred sites are great to see on this tour.

Michel was a great guide! He was clear about expectations, gave lots of interesting historical context for the towns we went through on the way which I appreciated and also provided a mystical experience at one of the sacred sites! I won’t give it away for future travelers :). I would highly recommend him as a guide, and a great driver as well. Will say the buses are cramped for tall people. Very happy with our experience!

A Magical Experience! See what the aliens have wrought!

My husband and I enjoyed this tour immensely. Our guide, Michel, was knowledgable and entertaining! At each site, we had plenty of time to explore on our own. The sites were truly awe inspiring, magical! We chose to have lunch at the Red Lion in Avebury and the food was excellent. We highly recommend this experience!

Amazing experience!

The Stonehenge tour was amazing. Our guide Michel was prompt and an excellent guide. He was knowledgeable, patient, and down to earth. The sites themselves were truly magical. I definitely recommend this tour. A+.

Avebury and Stonehenge by small group--wonderful!

This small-bus full-day tour was everything I had hoped for. I'd just taken an ancient art history class and had yearned to revisit Avebury since 1988, when I saw a small part of it with no historical background. Here, we got a bigger picture beyond the henge, first a dip inside the Kennet Long Barrow (with a mini-conjuring session by our guide), and stroll with a view of nearby inscrutable Silbury Hill. We had a quality hour or so in the town of Avebury to walk among the stones and henge and sheep. Our affable, very hard working guide reminded us that the circles were white and high back in the day, not soft smooth grassy knolls. I wished I'd had time to stop at the lovely pub in town. Our man drove us past later sites where a version of Avebury was made out of wood, and wound us past lots of towns with thatched buildings. The countryside on a pleasantly warm June day was lovely, grasses swaying, red wildflowers blooming, no wonder the English love to walk. I also enjoyed the trip to Stonehenge, miraculously not swamped with tourists, so I could try to imagine the processions held there in the sweeping fields, the nearby autoroute a reminder of today's less mysterious pilgrimages. This was a long day on the road, with a nice break stop at the beginning to grab some food and use the loo. On the return, our guide/driver navigated thick traffic with equanimity and occasionally sharing anecdotes about the musician's life and London and the English and various interesting stories. I enjoyed the whole day, and as I nodded off a few miles outside London felt more grateful for our shepherd's diligence. He deserved a standing ovation plus tips (and I hope double wages for playing two roles). This was months ago and now I can't remember the gentleman's name, but he is a tall rock musician with an easy demeanor and gently wry sense of humor, who can also herd cats (us tourists). This trip was a highlight of my week in London. I recommend it to those who want a more personal, uncrowded visit to these ancients sites. I hope Anderson continues to offer the route--it's the only one combining these sites as far as I could tell, and I would consider going again.

Avebury and Stonehenge

Avebury was great even though the weather was cold and a little damp. Stonehenge is magnificent. Our driver Michel was I for and interesting. A terrific day.

Great day with a great Guide

If you're intrigued by Neolithic sights and history, this is the tour for you. Be prepared to walk through cow and sheep pastures. You will want to wear appropriate footwear. You will have to watch your step as you walk. The animals leave "gifts". Having said that, this was a spectacular tour. Our guide was Michael. He was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. It was awesome to visit the 3 sights on the same day. This is a rather unique tour and they are the only company I could find that were offering it. If this tour interests you, go do it. It's worth it!

Fantastic tour!

Stonehenge, Avery standing stones, the West Kennet Long Barrow and the view of Silbury hill were fantastic. Michel was a fantastic guide, explained all the history, science and myths surrounding these fantastic ancient monuments. He also was humorous. He made it perfect balance of talk and rest during the drives up and back. Very responsive to our comfort during travel. He also gave great advice on where to buy lunch and things to do in Avery. He even shared stories about his very interesting personal experiences in the music industry.

Knowledgeable guide, breathtaking sites

Michel was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. We chose this trip because it is the only one that combined both Stonehenge and the larger site of Avebury. The tomb at West Kennet was an added bonus.

A Neolithic Tour!

We had a great time on the tour. The small bus size was nice and you have to wait less time for everyone to get back. The bus driver stops on the way out so you can grab picnic food for lunch. There is a restaurant in Avebury, but there are really nice places to have a picnic and the rest stop had gluten free sandwiches ( I found it much easier to find gluten free in England in general). Stonehenge was great, but Avebury and the Long arrow were fascinating and got us out into the countryside. Our guide had lots of fun info. Definitely would recommend!

Awesome tour

Awesome tour. Only one I could find that did all 3 locations. Our guide Michael was very knowledgeable and made a huge difference in the whole experience. Highly recommend.

Amazing Neolithic Sites

Amazing experience with Anderson’s Tours. Full day of interesting information, beautiful scenery and very interesting Neolithic sites. Would recommend this tour for anyone wishing to learn more about early England!

Fantastic!

This was a unique, small and lovely tour. Michel was absolutely fantastic and beyond knowledgeable about all of the sights we stopped at. Exploring two of the lesser known Neolithic sites felt special and being away from the crowds was an added bonus.

Three ancient sites in one day!

I really enjoyed this trip to Stonehenge and Avebury stone circles (and West Kennet Long barrow)! Our guide Michel was excellent. Added a lot of value with his knowledge and some really cool music tidbits that tied into the sites we visited, and some general history notes. The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star review was the fact that the mini-bus was a little cramped for me at 6'1". (This may have been a practical requirement considering some of the narrow country lanes you travel to visit these remarkable locations.) That said, the bus was even equipped with USB charging ports at each seat which really came in handy towards the end of the trip. They trip was still very worth. As I said at the end of the tour "It was a day well spent!"

Avebury & Stonehenge Tour

Michel was a fantastic guide for our day amongst the Stones. You might think they're just a bunch of rocks, but they truly are magnificent. Michel provided loads of information and sprinkled in some humour. Avebury was a beautiful place to stroll around, and the people were lovely. Anderson's provided a wonderful small group tour and I'd highly recommend you book with them whilst you're in London. A great day!

Neolithic world heritage tour

A very pleasant day tour from London to three very significant and interesting sites: West Kennet Long Barrow, Avebury and Stonehenge. Michele, our driver and guide, did a great job explaining the sites along the way as we travelled from London. There was plenty of free time to look around and explore at each location. Quite a long day, but well worth it!

Glad we went with Viator/Anderson

Richard was a fantastic guide! Lunch at the Red Lion in Avebury was great, but we didn’t have enough time to eat AND see the museum or walk on the embankment. Stonehenge was amazing, of course.

Amazing sites.

Great tour. Our tour guide Rich and driver Lance were very nice and helpful. We learned some history and saw beautiful and amazing sites. Glad it included Avebury and West Kennet sites.

Neolithic Magic

Being able to enter the West Kennet Long Barrow, seeing Silbury Hill, and experiencing Avebury. These are not available on many tours. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and up-to-date on the latest theories regarding Stonehenge and other Neolithic sites. He was friendly and open to questions. The bus was new and very comfortable; the toilet was out of order. We appreciated the stop for facilities and snacks on the way. The bus driver was friendly and very familiar with the route. The weather was perfect!!

Great day, great guide

Our tour guide Richard was GREAT! Very knowledgeable, pleasant, and organized. Entire tour was interesting and it was nice to be a little bit off the beaten path. I especially enjoyed hiking across a pasture to West Kennet Long Barrow and being able to go inside the rock chambers. Avebury stone circle is impressive, and our little dousing rod experiment was cool. Oh, and Stonehenge. Well done, thank you!

Great tour as places such...

Great tour as places such as West Kennet and Avebury is not yet as touristy as Stonehenge. There's so much to explore in Avebury, I was out of time. Stone Circles are much more bigger and scattered than I expected. Amazing and informative driver/tour guide Michel.

Magic in Wiltshire

Fabulous day out. Michel was an awesome tour guide/driver. Very knowledgeable with many tales to tell. All sites had their own touch of magic. I really highly recommend this tour if you are looking for something special.

Great tour; recommend!

The tour was very interesting. Michel was a very good tour guide. It was not a guided tour once in Stonehenge, but we were told to download the audio guide, and it was great. Michel gave us more than enough information beforehand. The van was very comfortable and the tour was well organized. Just be advised it is a bit windy, and it was a bit cold (yes, even in August!). Great for those interested in early inhabitants and stone “monuments” from Neolithic times. Even though we were not, we learned a lot and enjoyed the tour very much.

Good both times

Did this trip seven years ago and now. Great both times. Pretty sure our music loving tour guide/driver Michel was our driver on the last tour (with a different guide)! So he has a lot of experience and knowledge. Michel did an excellent job driving and keeping us informed the whole way through West Kennet Longbarrow, Avebury and Stonehenge. Had a great way to appeal to all audiences by encouraging us to keep an open mind and ask questions. Strong recommend. One slight suggestion -- when driving past Marlborough and listing its graduates, don't forget to mention legendary folk singer Nick Drake!

Excellent small group tour

My wife and I highly recommend this tour! Michel, our guide and driver, was excellent. Very knowledgeable, super chill, funny, and let us explore at our own pace. The West Kennet Long Barrow, at the top of a hill, was very interesting, and the view of the surrounding area was absolutely stunning. Next, we visited the very beautiful town of Avebury. We popped into a few cute small shops, wandered along the (more impressive than I was expecting) stone circle, watched some sheep grazing, and stopped in for a drink at the Red Lion. Finally, we made our way to Stonehenge. It was packed with people, but the grounds are so spread out, that it didn't feel all that crowded. If you can, skip the shuttle, and walk through the fields to Stonehenge. It's a beautiful walk. Stonehenge itself was very cool. Sure, you can't walk up to the stones, but the path takes you close enough, with plenty of opportunity to take pictures and wander at your own pace. Sidenote, the bus was comfortable, and had air conditioning. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

Fantastic small group tour

I loved the pace of this excursion. There were only 7 of us on this small group tour and 4 of them were my family. We got to see so much and the guide Michel, who also drove the bus, was extremely informative. I feel like we got a lot of bonus sites too. Avebury was fascinating and I loved that you could touch everything. I'm glad we did it before Stonehenge, which was interesting, but not as interactive.

Great tour company

Had a fantastic tour to Avebury and Stonehenge. Booked Directly on their site. Tour guide, Michele, was great and provided us lots of time at each site. Honest recommendations of which pubs or shops to explore, great driver, and good commentary at locations. Would recommend.

Special stone circles experience

Hidden spots that are the Anderson’s exclusive, unique and special. The tour guide was nice and knowledgeable. It would be better if the itinerary for Stonehenge could be a little longer.

A highlight of my trip to London.

Our group leader was very knowledgeable about our locations. Although I had done a Stonehenge tour previously, this one was much better, not only in the information provided; but also in showing the best locations to take photographs. This is definitely one of my reasons for touring. The main reason for this tour was visiting Avebury and it was as interesting as I had hoped. Again information about the history, and scenic information was top rated. Although when I touched a rock around Stonehenge I felt nothing, and again nothing at Sedona, when I touched an Avebury rock, I did feel something. I plan to visit the site again to get the feeling in the ley lines around there. Definitely a highlight of my visit to England.

Small tour/ overall great day

Had a great time on this tour! It was only 7 people. The driver/tour guide Michel was really knowledgeable and funny. We really enjoyed having time to wander on our own at Avebury and Stonehenge. The coach had AC and it was nice. We’ve been on tours we’re there is like 30+ people and the pick ups and drop offs take forever. The smaller tours are definitely the way to go! I was with my mom who is 76. There was a bit of walking but not too much and there is a shuttle at Stonehenge.

More than just rocks …

Fantastic access to so much more than Stonehenge with stops at other significant locations from similar period. Good communication and pickup options. Fantastic driver guide . This tour allows time to visit the Stonehenge exhibit area.
