Cradle Mountain National Park Day Tour from Launceston

Amazing Day!

Our driver Ben was amazing. His wealth of knowledge and passion for all aspects of the day was outstanding. He treated us all kindly, made our day extremely worthwhile! Thanks Ben!

A pleasant time spent

Enjoyed the scenic drive n seeing the changing landscape. Spotting wombats n wallabies in the wild was a real treat. Too bad time n weather disallowed a lengthier walk about the lake. There was some snafu with pick ups.

Great Trip, Pity about The Guide

The trip was very good but I found some of Garry's commentary and guide talks quite trivial and even downright incorrect! He needs to brush-up on certain points about wombats, particularly. He should also not call the native birdlife derogatory names - does he really care about the natural environment on Cradle Mountain or is he just doing the job to be paid?

Excellent Value

Gary our driver was very informative and we learnt a lot along the way. The day was clear so we were lucky to see Cradle Mountain and a few wombats.

Self drive rather than bus tour.

Best recommendation is to not take the bus tour. Drive to the parking area and use the blue shuttle service which is regular and comfortable. Bus tour uses cramped mini buses, uncomfortable, and of little knowledge sharing. 4 hours in a sardine can is not the way to travel.

Good day out in nature

We travelled to Tasmania with a large group of Intellectually Disabled adults. The Cradle Mountain tour was fantastic. We were lucky to have a perfectly clear day with no cloud on the mountain. Most of us walked to the Boat Shed, and were rewarded with amazing views over Dove Lake. Our group was made to feel very welcome by our guide Ben, (who even gave a Unicorn toy called Fluffy, the grand tour!). Ben's passion about the Waldheim family and their legacy was inspirational, so I will have to spruce up my poor garden. One day... ;) We also stopped at Sheffield to see the murals, had lunch at a lookout with little hut, and saw a wild wombat. A perfect day out!!

Perfect view

Great day trip from Launceston. Lucky to have had prefect weather, not a cloud in the sky. Easy walk on well constructed tracks

Cradle Mountain

Ben was informative & knowledgeable. Unfortunately it felt like a pick up & drop off trip for people seeing the accommodation places & transfers more. Disappointed 10 minutes at Sheffield, 20 minutes Asgrove cheese, limited time at Dove Lake due to damn transfers. Would not recommend.

Great would go again but possibly spend longer

The Cradle Mountain was great to see as the clouds cleared The walks were also very well laid out and easy to follow and Ben was very informative with the National Park Kerry the driver was great

Informative and exciting

Very informative; exciting tour ; driver was very knowledgeable; gave history of Launceston town ; on the way information on various trees ; mountain; villages ; explained Mural ; on doval lake explained various attractions; short walks. Worth recommend. Prashant Somaiya

We had a fantastic day with our wonderful guide, David. He is knowledgeable, interesting and helpful, as well as being a very careful, skilled and smooth driver. The tour had lots of variety and was very well-organised. The 'light lunch' was delicious and plentiful, and the lovely walks could be tailored to suit all abilities. The scenery was magnificent, and we were lucky to be blessed with a beautiful, sunny day. The tour was a wonderful introduction to Cradle Mountain, and we now have special memories of the day.

Mesmerising Cradle Mountain tour

Tour was perfectly managed, both drivers were very experienced and shared lots of history about Cradle Mountain and surrounding areas. Food arrangements were really good. Cheese factory visit while returning is the bonus and including kids everyone enjoyed the tour.

Spectacular nature

John, the driver/guide was fantastic, very knowledgeable. Cradel Mountain itself is spectacular, saw wombats and wallabys, a really enjoyable day.

Captivating Cradle Mountain

Fabulous Cradle Mountain.

The Cradle Mountain Park is amazing and beautiful but our day trip was improved tenfold by our guide Ben whose knowledge and experience was fantastic.

I was given the tour I wanted to avoid

I booked this Gray Line tour for 18 October 2023. Before booking this tour, I have read some awful reviews about the McDermott tour - specifically that the stops were only short toilet breaks, lunch was just a bun with some salad and ham etc. I chose the Gray Line tour thinking it was a better choice because the reviews were good. The day before the tour, I received text confirmation from Gray Line with directions to wait for pick up at the Cornwall Square Transit Centre. On the morning itself, I waited for a Gray Line coach but there was none. There was one small tour bus with the McDermott sign on it. The driver, Ben, gave me an earful about not being on time even though I was waiting at the entrance the entire time. I saw the "McDermott" sign on the mini bus and told him my tour was with Gray Line. He ignored me and asked for my name. My name was on his list, which meant I was on his tour. Even though I booked a Gray Line tour, I somehow ended up on the McDermott tour - the very same tour I did not want to book based on the reviews I read on Viator. The Gray Line tour was also more expensive compared to the McDermott tour, which I consider a rip-off. Everything I read about the reviews were true. Lunch was just a bun and some salad and your choice of meat. There was no fresh fruit despite it being advertised. The stops were rushed. They were really just 10-minute toilet breaks, not long enough for you to see anything. There wasn't even a stop for the Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre to buy a souvenir. I am livid that I paid the extra money to go on a Gray Line tour only to be given the McDermott tour that I didn't want to book in the first place. There was ZERO communication from Gray Line that this was the case. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TOUR DUE TO THE DECEPTION EMPLOYED BY GRAY LINE.

Cradle mountain

Very nice trip , luckily we had good weather so Cradle Mountain was well visible. Few short walks around Dove lake were very nice

Beautiful

I enjoyed the trip .A great experience .Cradle Mountain is beautiful.It can be chilly , even in summer , so wear warm clothing !

Loved this tour - exceeded my expectations

Fantastic tour would highly recommend to anyone. Our guide was so passionate and knowledgeable about everything on this tour. Especially about Gustav Weindorfer. I loved seeing wombats in the wild. There was plenty of time to take in all of the breathtaking scenery and the walks were nice and short (especially when you have a teenager with you). I also like the fact it was a small group.

Perfect day trip

Great trip, loved the day and amazed how beautiful the region is. Perfect no-fuss day out, no stress about hiring a car. Our driver Paul was funny and shared a lot of his local knowledge.

Great tour, awesome guide!

We were so lucky that we were there on a clear day and Cradle Mountain greeted us as we arrived! Also, not to mention we had an amazing guide like Ben, who was very knowledgeable and passionate on sharing his love for Tassie with us. Walk back in time

Ben's knowledge of Cradle Mountain's geography and his passion for the preservation of the area was inspiring. Dove lake is mystical and we loved the walk through the ancient rain forest.

A day to remember

Our driver John, was so informative. A very friendly guy as well which made the whole experience such a joy. All the history of the area was just fascinating. The weather was perfect. Money very well spent.

Unforgettable day

Excellent trip. Absolutely brilliant commentary from tour guide Ben and such a careful and considerate driver. Lunch in the day hut was lovely.

Cradle Mountain

The whole trip was great. Just thing the last stop at ashgrove could have been longer than 20 mins, after being in bus for over and hour. Tour guide , Ben, was amazing. He had so much knowledge to share, terrific day.

Good tour for hiking enthusiasts

We fortunately had a clear blue sky to take in the brilliant views of Cradle Mountain from the serene Dove Lake. Nice to walk around the area which is perfect for hiking and trekking enthusiasts which we are not. Great country scenery throughout the trip. Quite disappointed with the visit to Ashgrove Cheese factory on the return journey. Ben, our extremely knowledgeable guide, had promoted Ashgrove throughout the day advising of the excellent dairy products available plus gift shop opportunities. But with most of our group browsing or queuing to pay for gifts Ben wandered around advising everyone to return to the bus due to time restrictions?? My wife discarded a selection of gifts and obediently returned to the bus. Previous reviews have highlighted the same topic relating to lack of time at Ashgrove. Although we were all paying customers it was somewhat patronising that Ben spoke to the group like school children on a excursion.

Scenic tour with great tour guide

John was a very knowledgable guide. He was friendly and helpful, offering very insightful commentaries to the area. He also did the walk up to the Cradle Mountain lookout with our group, making sure that no-one is lost.

Fantastic tour, stunning scenery and wildlife

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Stunning scenery and plenty of time to complete 3 short walks and enjoy the wildlife (wombats my highlighy). Very knowledgeable and friendly.guide, good food and stops on the way and back.

I have never been on a tour where the guide is as passionate & knowledgeable,Ben was fantastic. We had the best day & learnt so much. We were fortunate enough to have perfect weather & Cradle Mt. was magestic. If you are fortunate enough to to take this tour with Ben you will not be disappointed.

Cradle Mountain National Park Day Tour

Very informative tour of Cradle Mountain and the National Park. We enjoyed the short walk to the lookout at Dove Circuit. Our tour guide was very familiar with the area and it’s history. Overall a wonderful experience!

Cradle Mountain Day Trip

Ben, the Grayline guide, is very knowledgeable and is passionate about the area and its eco diversity. Unfortunately the weather was not kind and mist/cloud covered the mountain so we were unable to see it. On the up-side, it was the first time my wife experienced snow!

Excellent day out at Cradle Mountain

This was our first visit to Tasmania and Cradle Mountain. The views were stunning, both on the way to/from the mountain, and once inside the national park itself, and despite the cold we had a fantastic day. Our driver/guide Ben was very informative and knowledgable about both the area and Tasmania in general. He took us on several guided walks, with informative commentary along the way. We had a quick toilet stop in Sheffield on the way to the mountain, which was time to quickly view some lovely murals painted by local artists. This was a full day tour of around 9-10 hours, with pick up and drop off at our city hotel, which was very convenient. Lunch was a choice of a salad roll or sandwich (gluten free options available), which was eaten in a day hut once at Cradle Mountain. Coffee, tea, soup and water were also available. I'd definitely recommend this tour on a trip to Launceston.

Cradle mountain bus tour with McDermott was a great day out

The day was absolutely fantastic.. Danielle was our person for the day and apparently she's only been doing it for 2 weeks.. she was confident and informative and everyone enjoyed her company... she's a great driver also...we never felt rushed to move on she always made sure everyone was traveling ok ..we left feeling as though we had completely enjoyed our tour...
