A wonderful day on the Kerala Backwaters

We had a wonderful time exploring the backwaters! The five of us were accompanied by the option guide Tommy who shared a ton a great information on our 2 hour drive to the water. The driver Bibin was superb at navigating the busy streets safely and pointed out some sights as well. The three man crew on the boat were all friendly and took great care of us. The lunch included much tasty local cuisine!

Excellent Private Driver Kerala and beyond

Planning a 6 day private tour of Kerala I needed to find a driver. Trip advisor came up trumps with Ramesh. He was delightful. Always prompt, polite and has excellent English. His driving was exemplary. He also was very knowledgeable about the area and the sights he took us to. Very easy company over the 6 days. Plus an added bonus he has an excellent singing voice and will sing traditional Indian songs, but only on request. I thoroughly recommend him for your trip. Contact Ramesh.790@rediffmail.com

The views were amazing. We took very many photos. We saw how people lived along the canals while enjoying a delicious lunch.

A memorable day

We weren’t quite sure we could believe our houseboat was just for us! It was a brilliant day and the crew looked after us so well - and even found time to cook us a fabulous lunch. We felt like royalty - thanks so much for a memorable day

Relaxing trip and delicious lunch.

Really enjoyable 3hrs on the lakes and canals of the Kerala backwaters. The boat was cool and comfortable, the crew were friendly and helpful, and the delicious lunch prepared by the on-board chef was excellent. The only downside for us was the length of the drive from Kochi, which took almost 2hrs each way due to the current road works and traffic (as of Feb 2024).

Peaceful ride at the river with extraordinary lunch

It was a very peaceful boat ride in the river. I had the feeling of being in the Amazon jungle as I saw all these tropical plants mixed with the houses of the local farmers. I had time to visit only the main river but it was more than enough for me. The food was really amazing and it was enough for 5 persons. It contained vegetable and fish and bread. All in all it was worthy its extraordinary high price.

Beautiful tranquil experience!

The tranquility of this houseboat tour was amazing! Our guide Shaji, got us on our way with pickup at the hotel and a short trip to the houseboat. On board was our guide, the pilot, 1 crew and chef. The boat itself was large with a lower deck and comfortable seating and dining table. There was also an upper deck which they put cushions down for laid back lounging. The scenery views were awesome and Shaji was great about explaining the history of the houseboats, the rice paddies and how the locals live. A good tour guide is critical to the experience of a tour and he was exceptional. Chef prepared an amazing meal that was classic Indian. This area is simply gorgeous with the palm trees, numerous houseboats and canals, a must if you are in the area! Highly recommended!

Great experience with Peter & Carnival tours

My family and I recently had a great experience doing our week-long trip to Kerala with Peter and Carnival tour and travels. Peter was responsible for the entire tour airport to airport, including local siteseeing in Fort Kochi, backwater boat ride and lunch near Allepey and touring Thekkady and finally dropping us off in Trivandrum. Peter was great at sharing tour options, booking us the best seats for Kathakali and Kalari shows, and sending us well-informed guides. All gyudes spoke good English. Our driver, Martin Pramod, was great. He stayed with us throughout our week in Kerala and gave us lots of good suggestions for local restaurants and shopping. Would really recommend Peter and Carnival tour!

Fantastic experience with great staff!

We had an excellent day with our guide Krisban. He was knowledgeable and just the right mix of entertaining while also giving us space to enjoy our day. The houseboat was beautiful and the staff on board were a delight. The meals and snacks were excellent. This is a top class experience and our best in India yet! Our driver Baabu was also fantastic and we also used his services the next day for our trip to Munnar. Definitely recommend this tour!

A beautiful, special and peaceful experience

Well oranized trip, they pick you up from almost anywhere in and around Kochi. Commincation is swift and precise. Staff is friendly, welcoming and catered well to our needs. The food was delicious. Everything was so great that we will for our next trip to Kerala spend a few days cruising the Backwaters. The backwaters are a place to be seen.... quiet an experince

Beautiful Kochi Backwaters Experience

Kochi Backwater Day Cruise , this is a must if UR visiting with a stay in Kochi . The boat jetty is just past the Lakeshore Hospital at the end of the road . U have to book it at least 2 days ahead . Mr Panicker is a very pleasant gentleman very keen to please U. Raji the boat driver / guide was also happy to please U. The motor boat is a 8 seater with shaded areas , They provide U with life jackets and provide a printed instruction card as to how to wear it and what to do in case of an emergency . There is a fire extinguisher on board as well . The chairs have cushions and very comfortable . Because of slow tourist visits due to Covid their business has been scaled down . They use to provide a onboard kitchen for lunch this was also summer time so that was not offered , bottled water is available and there is a clean toilet at the jetty but not on board . The tour price person or group is quite reasonable, for the 3 hour tour . They stop on different islands in the back waters , at fisherman’s homes and , fishery farms . If U want to buy fresh fish , make sure U bring plastic bags . Wear a hat and make sure U have Sun screen . There is a nice breeze when the boat is moving , but being April it can be hot . We bought some fresh River fish and clams from the fisherman . Different migratory birds in plenty are seen in December to February. We saw some Siberian Cranes who come to feed on the clams . Best to bring glasses for bird watching . The mangroves are beautiful to see . Fisherman ‘s homes are simple & practical . They have to use a boat to come to the mainland . They have electricity and running clean tap water . The fisherman R very friendly . Bring UR camera . Yes I would definitely do this again on my next visit to Kochi , hopefully in winter for bird watching .

Fa tactics and mind blowing

My tour was booked by the staff at Gateway Hotel Marine Drive and was perfect in every sense.The boat was good and was booked exclusively for us .The scenery was nice and so was the lunch We also experienced the Auryvedicassage which was out of this world Shopping was good experience as well

I can honestly say that after travelling to various destinations that the kerala houseboat was one of the best experiences of my life..calm, peaceful,relaxing but in no way boring..the scenery is constantly changing as you relax and take it all in..AMAZING..

Backwaters Day Trip

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip with Carnival tours. From the pick up at the hotel to the drop off the staff was exceptional. Everyone spoke English and accommodated our every need. The backwaters are beautiful. So serene and picturesque. Meandering through villages on the narrow canals immediately puts you in a different space from busy Kochi.

Pleasant Day Cruise

I was met at my hotel by Sando, my English speaking guide for the day. Our driver, Mejo was stuck in traffic, so we took a tuk tuk to meet the driver in order to stay on schedule. At the dock, we completed the paperwork then took a water taxi to the beautiful houseboat. I was traveling solo but felt very comfortable all throughout the day, chatting with Sando. On board the 3 crew introduced themselves and made me feel at home. The cruise is beautiful through the backwaters, passing homes where life on the water is seen first hand - fishing, swimming, washing clothes, bathing and fields of rice during harvest season. Saw many species of birds. Some of the travel is on the open water out in the bay also. Lunch was delicious and so much food. There were many choices, all very delicious. The cook even offered to show us how to make one of the tomato dishes that was great and something even I could make at home. Yes, I even got a private cooking lesson in the galley. So enjoyable, the day went by so very quickly. Yes, it's expensive for one person, and with the added expense for an English speaking guide, but it's a once in a lifetime experience that should not be passed up. I loved every minute of it. That evening when I was dropped off at my hotel I felt that the day could have not been more perfect.

Ein absolutes Muß für einen Besuch in Kerala

Ein traumhaftes Erlebnis. Bereits die Anreise über die Küstenstraße von Kochi war sehr schön. Wir haben die Zeit zu zweit auf dem Hausboot sehr genossen. Das Mittagessen war fantastisch! Die gesamte Organisation perfekt.

Wir haben die Backwaters Tour kombiniert mit unserem Fahrer, der uns sicher durch Südindien gefahren hat, bei Carnival Tours gebucht. Die Betreuung war vom ersten Kontakt bis zum Ende professionell und 100% zuverlässig. Das Boot für die Tour war komfortabel und top gepflegt. Die Crew sehr aufmerksam und jederzeit um unser Wohl bemüht- besser hätten wir es wohl kaum treffen können. Danke an Carnival Tours.

Backwater husbåt

Nu vet jag inte vem vi anlitade, kan kollas via Sonas home stay, utmärkt ställe i Fort Kochi.Vi var tre: min son, hans kompis och jag. Vi hade hört en mängd om dessa husbåtar, trodde att de var få, svåra att få tag i och en massa mer. Man kunde få egen båt (som den på bilden ungefär) med egen kock, driva runt bland sjöar, floder och det som heter backwaters. Sagt och gjort. Sona, se ovan, fixade detta, med bästa kocken Vi hade diskret förklarat att min son är kock och intresserad av all mat. I två dygn åkte vi runt på vår båt ( fanns ett par tusen till) som ett flytande hotell. Inte gratis, men inte mer än en vanlig kväll kan kosta på krogen. Då fick vi, så klart, suverän mat, hotelllstandard på allt, natur, människor, se allt det fågelliv som verkar osannolikt. Risfält så långt ögat når. Detta är för ett par dagar, inte bara för en liten dagsresa, om man vill uppleva något.
