Highly recommended

This is our go to company to book for our study abroad students. They went last Saturday (15th September) and they had a great time. We have never had any complaints from the students about the punting, they always say that it was the best part of visiting Cambridge.

Lovely tour with excellent tour guide/punter

We just turned up (two of us) and bought a ticket on the day (£76 for two). The tour guide who also did all the punting was first class. He really knew what he was talking about and he was very charming to all the clients on the punt (10 of us). The tour itself went down the river Cam past "The backs", which really is the back of multiple colleges and frankly soo much nicer looking than the fronts! The punt also had umbrellas and blankets on every seat just in case. My only regret is that I did not try to get a discount online or from the sales person by the bridge. I gather both could have saved us up to £20, but I am not too bothered as the guide was great and we had a lovely punt.

Unmissable

We had a 50 minute private punting tour with Let’s Go Punting and we really enjoyed it. Our guide was a student and very friendly, informative and entertaining, full of fun facts and interesting stories. Thoroughly recommended

Mum’s birthday treat

It was a great experience, well informed guide. The weather was a little chilly, but it didn’t matter as we were able to wrap up in the supplied blankets.

Punting The Hard Way

Self Hire Punting was an amazing experience but isn't as easy as it appears. After 30 minutes spinning around in circles, I eventually span off the punt into the deepest part of the river, where I couldn't even touch the bottom. This meant I couldn't get back on it. I spent around 10 minutes in the water causing absolute chaos blocking the entire river with the punt. After I finally managed to clamber back on it, a touring punt hit us and knocked me back in. This caused me to lose the punting pole, leaving us stranded again 🤣 Definitely an experience, but if we go again I think it might be better to get a touring punt instead.

Did a private tour with Chris and he was easy company. Informative but not just talking at you for an hour (which would have been annoying). Definately a great way to see the colleges

Great guide Olly Wade !!

4 ladies decided to take a private punting tour today. Our guide was Olly Wade, it was his 1st day and he was amazing!!! He was extremely knowledgeable, he answered all our questions and was so kind and patient with us. We felt completely safe with him and wanted to say he deserves the praise. Thank you Olly!

Wonderful

Wonderful forty five or so spent in Cambridge. I must give props to our terrific guide and expert punter, Jack, who regaled us with all sorts of interesting and funny stories and anecdotes as he expertly navigated us around. Would highly recommend this experience.

Archie, the guide supreme!!

We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Archie,our guide was on point. He was informative and so engaging. We came prepared with our picnic and were delighted. We had the pleasure of Pritesh's humour and have to also acknowledge that he is amazing, too.

Be sure to bargain to get a cheaper trip

Nice punting tour from Quayside, not a fan of the sales tactics! Each sales rep has a different price and they’re so expensive; we walked past at about 7pm and they were desperate to fill the last boat so offered us £20 each (£40 total) for the 45 min punt - down from £76 originally! So definitely barter with them and don’t over pay

Great punt tour

We booked a shared punting tour with Scudamore's from Magdalene Bridge. Finn was our guide and punt chauffeur. He was great and did a fantastic job of pushing the punt against wind and a strong current on the river whilst telling us loads of interesting stuff about the history and all the things we saw. Lots of the colleges are shut in May because the students are revising for their exams and that meant it was a really good deal because we saw loads of colleges and heard all about them at the same time. Scudamore's were careful about our safety and tied the boat up so it was easy for us to get in and out. The punts had umbrellas and rugs to help us cope with the British summer!

Sad for spoil our mood and no tolerance due waste our money, too business mind

Better don't do online booking first, because you can expect the travel time to prevent your ticket forfeited and waste money. They will not consider and tolerance your excuse, that will spoil your travel mood. They will let your know reason of forfeited is busy, pack for time, no boat, but tell you to rebuy the ticket then hv time boat for you....too business mind, not so good for suggestion. And there hv another company with more cheaper price....we choose this company thought at the same time let student to gain some part time job is a good idea but no tolerance make us lose the money and mood for this boat traveling. Thanks

Charming and well provided tour!

The guides were well-informed, entertaining and perfectly charming. Even though the weather was being typically British, we stayed dry and warm with the umbrellas and blankets provided for us! All my students enjoyed this intimate and relaxing tour along the river Cam and the scenic backs of the Cambridge colleges.

Punting

The guide didn’t adapt to our group of English learning teens and hold a very boring historal speech Very expensive (£ 267 - 10 pax) for just a 45 min boat trip.

Punt perfection, only with Scudamores.

From start to finish everything was perfect, comfy padded and with extra blankets. Sun shining and river flowing our gent on the pole was very knowledgeable about all aspects (sorry I can’t remember his name) he made us very welcome and obviously enjoyed the interaction and questions

Great punting tour

Lovely guided punting tour of Cambridge’s oldest colleges on the River Cam. Our guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer our questions. We went on a cold day, so the wool blankets Scudamore’s provided were most welcome. Recommend warm clothing as the guided tour lasts about 45 minutes.

Lovely punt, maybe a little pricey?

Very good punt. Shared boat experience but Ben was a great punter and guide to stories about the university buildings. Plenty of staff around to ask questions beforehand. Found out after that booking online would have saved money for a morning punt.

Memorable Punting Experience at Cambridge

Cathy did a great job guiding us with stories although it was a very windy day. We enjoyed and appreciated her effort to keep us in the correct direction. It was really appreciated that each boat has equipped with blanks to keep the body temperature. Thanks.

Lovely time on the river, but don’t be late back

We had a lovely time , especially as the weather was beautiful. We had pre booked and it wasn’t clear where to go. Punting self hire is hard work and the river is busy. Don’t be even a few minutes late as you will be charged! This isn’t made clear enough, and shouted at you when you bring the punt back in which I thought was rude.

A must do tour

This seemed expensive , but having been on it it was worth every penny . Prices do seem to be negotiable as it was a very quite day in March , they may not be at the height of summer . Our guide was Maddie, who gave us a lot of detailed info whilst punting us along . These guides really do work hard for their money. This really is a great way to see Cambridge - and many areas that are not accessible to the public . Coupled with a walking tour these are the 2 must do things in Cambridge

A magical way to see Cambridge at its finest.

From start to finish, we had an absolutely fantastic time on our first family punting experience (a combined birthday/mother's day gift). Despite being locals, it was an incredible experience seeing a side of Cambridge that can only truly be appreciated by travelling along the river. We were incredibly well looked after from the moment we stepped on to the punt, to the moment we returned to the Mill Pond. The weather was ghastly, but we were offered blankets and umbrellas to ensure we stayed warm and dry and that our experience wasnt hampered due to the rain. Our punt chauffeur, Gavin, was exceptional. He was great fun, extremely knowledgeable about Cambridge and the history of the colleges we passed on our journey, and really proficient when steering the boat itself. We all felt very safe and in very capable hands at all times. We all agreed that it was a really lovely experience and something we will definitely do again. Thank you Gavin and all at Scudamores for helping us make some treasured memories and a day to remember.

Cute rainy day

More expensive then I remember but still a great experience. It was a rainy day but that made the experience even better, umbrellas, hot water bottles and blankets provided, very cosy. Tour guide really knowledgeable and happy to answer our questions, no matter how silly.

Really good 45 mins tour today. Very informative duo taking us on a tour of the colleges and waterways of Cambridge. Some of the other punts we saw were single crewed, no life jackets and shoddy looking boats!!! Due to the amount of rain lately our punt had a duo looking after us who were very polite and knowledgeable.

Enjoy punting like a pro!

This was a really fun and unique experience are guide Noah was extremely knowledgeable and helpful and kind and funny. For anyone visiting Cambridge I would highly recommend this experience.

Great tour

We had a great time!! Our guide (I think his name was Josh) was interesting, very funny and knows how to tell stories in an engaging way. He and the staff at the punting station were also very helpful when we lost a phone.

Excellent value for money, do not miss.

I purchased our punting trip from a vendor in the centre of town who collared us as we walked past. To the lady who left the review about being "ripped off", you've got to haggle. I got their £10 guide book to Cambridge and a punt for two for what I consider to be a reasonable price. The company must make a profit, the boatman deserves a reasonable day's pay. We paid £30 per head and feel that that was good value for money. Punting is a magical experience and one not to be missed in Cambridge.

Great, fun relaxing experience.

On the whole a great experience. Some helpful staff some not so. On arrival in my wheelchair with my daughters I needed the toilet . Unfortunately there are no toilet facilities onsite only in the local pub when it opens lunch time or all the way back down into the local cafe . Very accommodating staff in the cafe. Once arriving back at Mill lane i asked how i get down to the boats and was told down the slope and they will pop a ramp down . Ok perfect. However the slope backs around on itself and is rather dangerous. Covered in thick wet mud at which my wheelchair got stuck and a lumpy brick sticking up did not help. My daughters had to push/ veer me in the right direction . ( Might i suggest that its cleared of debris and mud as its very dangerous as i nearly ended tipping over and its hard enough in a wheelchair let alone more challenges ) once down by the boats a very helpful young man helped me mobalise over and into the boat also ensuring we had hot water bottles and blankets. Very kind. Off we went and might i say a fantastic punter who was so knowledgeable of all the sights/ bridges took us off down the river. He was fantastic! A very pleasant / relaxing experience. On returning and back off the boat the same helpful ypung man helped me back to my wheelchair . Off back up the slope we went and once again nearly tipped over and veered off towards the waters edge!! Terrifying! My daughter then grabbed the wheelchair one side and my other daughter pulled the wheelchair up over the slippery mud and protruding brick and back to safety. Thank goodness they were with me as i feel i may of ended up in the river! Please please clear this issue and make it safe as its an accident waiting to happen!! Please consider how it might be for a wheelchair user. Thank you otherwise for a fabulous fun punt. Would definitely recommend.

Don't be ripped off..

Be very careful how much they charge you .The man who approached us made us believe he was doing us a deal stating if we booked now he would agree to £20 lower than the board price which we agreed to. However once he took us to the till to pay £50 for my daughter & I, we heard him laugh behind our backs bragging to his colleagues " haha I got £50!" We demanded a refund. The manager said we could have bartered with him! I don't think this is fair at all -The price should be the same for everyone on the same day irrelevant of how brave you are to barter. We went to a company called Scholars who are a 10second walk away who only charged us £30 for exactly the same experience (minus a blanket which we didn't need anyway )

Fantastic experience, very knowledgeable staff

What a brilliant experience! Beautiful weather helped but our guide was absolutely brilliant. His name was Jack, and he had learnt so much about both the river and Cambridge generally, he clearly has a genuine passion for history. He was engaging with the whole boat, and kept us entertained the whole journey. It was well priced and comfortable etc but Jack made the experience for us, would recommend this company for anyone visiting.

Fantastic family fun

Highly recommend SCUDAMORE for punting, the experience was fantastic. Staff were incredibly friendly, booking online was very easy and made for a quick check in on arrival. Comfort has really been thought of as we were provided with hot water bottles and blankets which was very welcome with it being a bit chilly. Our tour guide however really made our punting experience memorable. His name was Ryan all the way from California and he had my children’s fullest attention, he was funny and knew so much about Cambridges history. He is a credit to the company and one of my son’s said mum you have to leave a review because he was amazing! Thank you Ryan.

Brilliant family adventure!

We went on a guided punt tour this morning and would certainly recommend it. Our tour guide Ollie was so friendly and knowledgeable. He knew so much about the history of the area and made it really interesting for our boys, 14, 12 and 7, including some funny stories. It was really is stunning to see all the colleges and we enjoyed a peaceful time on the river.

What a lovely way to see Cambridge and its secrets

Was not going to do it but the lad offered a great deal so we decided why not and what a good change of plan it was. Our guide was George who was 19 but for 45 mins reeled of fact after fact. He is a credit to Scudamore's and made our trip even better. Being in the area during October meant it was a bit quiet so maybe more enjoyable than busy times. Loads of facts, things to see and well worth a go. Cost was £25 each and we thought it was worth every penny.

Fantastic River Tour

We really enjoyed our tour with Scudamores. The river was high and fast, so they were double punting, but the boat was comfy, wide and stable. Despite the return journey being hard work for the two guides, they kept us entertained with stories and information about the colleges and Cambridge. I’d highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a guided tour. We booked on the day but had to wait a couple of hours for our trip, which was fine for us. I’d recommend getting there early or booking online in advance.

very good experience as first time punting. however too crowded (as it was sunday so understandable), and one tour guide (not from the company) was rude and rammed their boat onto ours, given that my boyfriend who was doing the punting isnt experienced and almost fell over. man wore sunglasses, a hat, and white dress shirt. OTHERWISE great experience

Very knowledgeable trained staff

We had a great shared trip along the river with a very knowledgeable punter ‘Taylor’. It was great to learn about all the colleges and the history surrounding them. She answered all our questions and did a good job of getting us up and down the river. This is not the cheapest way to go up the river but it’s worth it. The punters have to pass a test to work here and are really good plus you get a free half hour on a punt to have a go yourself afterwards - great fun!

Punting the Cam for the first time. We had Finn as our pole man and he provided fun commentary as well as very informative information on the colleges. Great fun on a beautiful day with a great guide.

This punting tour was fantastic. It feels expensive but at £30 each I would say it is worth it. Our guide was so knowledgeable and brought to whole experience together. They were even happy to take our little dog!

Boring boat ride

Boring ride, nothing special, hot and sunny day in the past week of September 2023. Nice to see ducks and cows. For me only ride once in a lifetime.

Fab trip - one to try

Amazing trip. Initial contact with James who persuaded the eight of us to take a private boat. We were then so fortunate to have Charlie whose knowledge, wit and personal interaction absolutely made a wonderful experience for all of us and especially Debs who was celebrating her birthday.
