4x4 Desert Safari, Sandsurf and Camel ride in Cairo
Okay, this is the review you want to read and you should read.
There are 2 types of tours you can make in Egypt. The first type are the tours that are based on tourism, where you go and see the pyramids, museums etc. These type of tours are always crowded and somehow they feel forced. It is something that you have to do, that even though they are beautiful they always lack something to make them memorable.
The second type are those that when you do them they stay stay with you for a life.
As you have guessed, this tour belongs in the second category.
The programm of this trip goes this way.
Firstly, the guys from the agency come and get you from your hotel. Rayn was our tour guide and Osama our driver. At the beginning Rayn went and bought us water, juice and chips for the rode. After about 1 and a half of rode we reached a beautiful lake where we had the opportunity to make a stop and take some photos. About two hours in the trip we switched cars in order to get some 4x4 for the desert. Next stop was Wadi el Rayan a valley which consists of desert, lakes and waterfalls.
At first we literally got out of the road and our new "crazy" drivers Ali and Mohamed went up and down in the dunes of the desert. These guys were amazing, they drive like mad men but always staying on their feet. The drive was like a luna park train experience only with cars.
After the dunes, comes the sand broading. The guys gave us some broads which we road on the dunes. As you expect we end up having sand everywhere in you. Great experience, and great adrenaline rush!
After that we went to a settlement near the waterfalls of Wadi el Rayan. There you have the chance to buy the traditional head scarfs and other souvenirs.
Next Rayn bought us some drinks. We tried the local tea which was wroth it. At that time we had the chance to take a rest and decide what type of ride we wanted to do, camel or horse. The decision was camel. The ride was smooth and relaxing.. We rode across a lake seeing the horrizon.
Following that we had a break. This was the time were we got to know Rayn better. He told as about Egypt, not the ancient part, but how people live now, which helped us understand even better this country. He gave us a more meaningful insight view of the people lives and answered a lot of our questions that were developed during our holiday. What I should also mention is that he speaks flawlessly English, which was the icing on the cake, since most of the guides cannot speak English that well and have accents that sometimes it makes it difficult to understand them.
Next stop was the waterfalls, were we had the chance to take some great photos.
Continiuing our trip we were given the choice to climb a mountain by feet or to literally climb an other mountain with the cars. We chose the second option and we end up in a mountain where we could admire the beauty of the whole valley. The view was magnificent!
After that, the next destination was the magic lake. This name was given to this lake because of its water ability to change colour through the day, in all shades of green and blue. Also it's sand doesn't stick to your feet, which is actually pretty cool. As you can understand we had a swim. The water was crystal clear so that you could see the bottom.
Lastly we went to a nearby settlement, were we had our meal which consisted of chicken potatoes, rise and salad. After that came some bananas and more local tea.
All the drinks and the food that we were served, were included in the package that we pay. We didnt have to spend more money for those.
When we got back to cairo Rayn offered us to get us to some of the local markets. The main markets in Egypt are papyrus, perfumes, cotton and jewelry. Our choice was papyrus and we had the chance to buy some great art pieces at a great price.
Of course after that the guys took us to our hotel. Osama did a great job getting us back on time.
Overall it was an amazing day!
Something great about this trip is all the decisions. The programm is always adjusting to your preference which makes the experience even better.
Lastly, there is something that i want to include. Sometimes it's not only about the journey but also the people that you meet along the way. Rayn made us feel welcome, so thank you for the amazing day, you made the trip worth even more!!
