Best experience on Fitzroy island!!

We went on a Fitzroy island tour with Sunlover Reef Cruise. What I loved about this tour was the time duration on Fitzroy Island. You get to experience Fitzroy island more than enough in a day! We went on a hike, went to the Nudey beach, snorkelling around & spent a day on Nudey Beach exploring! While we were waiting for the boat to go back to Cairns, we spotted some sea turtles on the jetty. Boat came around 5pm and we could enjoy the pre sunset sky at Fitzroy island which was absolutely beautiful ✨ All the staff I have spoken to on the boat, they were all friendly and professional. I highly recommend to book Fitzroy island tour with Sunlover Reef Cruise! It was definitely worth the money.

Great experience! All was on time, great professional and funny staff. :) made a best out of experience even if it was rainy a bit. Just make sure, you eat light breakfast as it can be pretty wavy on board

The glass boat tour guide...

The glass boat tour guide was funny and had away to get everyone smiling. Overall, very much enjoyed the day trip to Fitzroy Island.

Nice day out

Only used this as a ferry service. We did not opt in to the glass bottom boat or snorkeling. Island is beautiful and offers pretty snorkeling. Nudey beach was a tough treak to make but not too. Wear proper hiking gear and study the path as much as possible and don't be afraid to get directions as it can be confusing. Food places are minimal and close in the afternoon so be ware of timings before heading out.

Beautiful day out

Great service and very reasonably priced. My friend and I had the best day out on Fitzroy island, there was so much to do and it was very surreal and beautiful to be surrounded by such nature and sights!!

Give the glass bottom boat on Fitzroy Island a miss.

My husband and I took a day trip from Cairns to Fitzroy Island. Professional, helpful staff on the Fitzroy Island boat, and everything ran to schedule. Beautiful scenery as we walked/hiked to Nudey Beach, which was well worth the trek. The trip included the option of a glass bottom boat trip or snorkelling experience, and we chose the glass bottom boat. The 30 minute boat trip was very underwhelming, the boat hovered for a few minutes over some bleached out looking coral, with a spiel delivered by the driver,and then raced back for the next tour group. It very much felt like a money making exercise that I would not recommend. There was also no advance notice that the Turtle Rehabilitation Centre on the Island was closed. We ended up coming back 2 hours early and were a bit disappointed overall.

Fitzroy Island

Great snorkeling experience at Nudey Beach. Glad we had stinger suits as we did see a few different stingers and also non stinging jellies. Saw turtles, various fish. Beautiful clear water.

Fitzroy island snorkel and glass bottom boat

Smooth transfer to beautiful island. Book the snorkeling equipment and glass bottom boat package, well worth it! Can bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks, order at Foxy’s or buy at the general store. We got our meals takeaway from Foxy’s and ate at the beach

Amazing experience, the...

Amazing experience, the reef is so close to the island we could truly swim into and see how beautiful it is. Got a peak of a turtle and a beautiful sting ray as well. The water is so warm and the food and drinks were great at the café on the island the only issue we had was that the cafè only serves food from 11.30 so make sure you bring food with you in the morning.

Beautiful tour

What a beautiful island. Picturesque blue waters and greenery. The ferry out was comfortable and short with a great crew to get us out there.

Totally relaxing

Swimming in the crystal clear waters was amazing. The trails on the island were breathtaking and certainly worth doing.

for starters we went on thursday 23/11 and the young lady who wasn't wearing a name badge was very rude stating that we didn;t have the pass for the swimming and when we showed her the printed receipt with all that was included she just walked away and didn;t bother listening. We didn't see any coral nor the could we go swimming unless it was a closed off area on the beach with the snorkeling equipment. Would not go with this company again

There and back in one piece

The Sunlover Reef transfer from Cairns to Fitzroy Island was spacious and quick. The boat drops off passengers to Fitzroy Island first before moving on to the other activities. On the way back, we got confused and queued up for the Fitzroy Island Adventure boat. Just keep an eye out lol

Paradise island …..

Fitzroy Island not to be missed! A little bit of paradise with the clearest water and beautiful fish and coral to explore. Be prepared for a bit of a climb on large stones when exploring the route to nudie beach but so worth it!!

Snorkeling it away

Had absolutely wonderful time snorkeling at Fitzroy Island! As Island, not as cute and welcoming as Green Island, but the reef is way closer to shore and so much more vibrant! We even saw few white tip sharks while out there! Absolutely recommend! One of my trips highlights!

Island Escape

The boat crossing from Cairns to Fitzroy Island was a bit choppy but was refreshing. Left quay on time and communication from staff was precise and well received. Lunch on the island was tasty and good value for money.

Amazing day :)

The island is really worth visiting, scenic forest pathways, beautiful sandy beaches, and beaches with coral rocks. The whole crew was very well organized. The snorkeling equipment was great and the whole experience was amazing. We saw four turtles and a huge variety of fish and corals. I could be snorkeling there for a whole day. As a bonus, we even saw a whale on our way back to Cairns. Also, the glass bottom boat was a nice experience. It was a really nice day. I highly recommend it.

Tropical Day

Crystal blue waters, perfect sunshine. Sharp coral when walking on the beach and a relaxed vibe! I enjoyed snorkelling but didn’t catch my sea turtle!

10/10 trip with fantastic staff

My partner and I booked with this company last minute but it did not disappoint. Whilst on the way to Fitzroy Island, we booked onto the beginners snorkelling tour with Morgan (our guide) who was fantastic and a credit to the company. He was extremely knowledgeable about the reefs, corals and environment of the island and gave us lots of good tips for snorkelling. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with this company and if we are ever to return to Cairns, we would definitely book again. Thank you!

Always great place to be

Great experience It was my second time in Fitzroy island I wish the sun lover boat had bigger outdoor area and the air con made it too cold in the cabin. Overall, I loved the experience in Fitzroy island. Main activities: hiking to the summit Relaxing by the beach and snorkeling

Beautiful

We were lucky to get a private turtle tour at the rehabilitation centre amazing work by volunteers- sunlover ferry was great traveling to and from the island was school holidays and a little busy would be nice to go back in quieter times to enjoy more. Lovely to sit I. The cafe have a bite to eat drink and look at the scenery - didn’t do the walking tracks this time you need good shoes as rough underfoot

Day in Fritzroy Island

Great tour, great experience. 👌 The day in Fritzroy was amazing the tour includes the glasses bottom. I recommend it. The staff is friendly.

Beautiful day trip

Really enjoyed my time on Fitzroy island. It looked pretty preserved, it was quiet, beautiful views from the jungle and the coast. Nice bumps of corals and lots of fishes to see from Nudey beach.

Really Impressive for the Inner Reef

I wasn't really expecting to see a lot on Fitzroy Island compared to the outer reef but was pleasantly surprised! The weather was pretty bad when we went so we went over on a bigger boat which was nice and my friends got their snorkel hire from there. We left at 9:30 and got to Fitzroy around 10:15. The crew were really friendly and even told us where the best snorkelling spots are (Bird Rock on the far left). I didn't expect to see so much coral or lots of sea life when snorkelling but actually saw lots and I was really impressed considering it's the inner reef and not the outer. Visibility isn't the best, especially because we went on such a bad day, but that's to be expected from an island and didn't stop us from seeing loads anyway! We had a late lunch at the restaurant which has pretty views and was decently priced. We got the ferry back at around 16:30 and was back in Cairns before 17:30. There are lots of other good places to snorkel and some nice hiking trails that I didn't get to do this time so I definitely would like to go back again!

Good trip and good value

It was a nice trip. Staff was helpful. Glass bottom boat viewing was not great (not their fault, choppy water). But the boat driver gave interesting talk and info about the reef and answered questions well. Best way to see anything is to snorkel. However try on your flippers before leaving boat. Mine were too small. I used my own sandals instead - because too many rocks on beach to go barefoot. Wish though that the boat left a little later but do understand that it’s autumn and it gets dark earlier at this time of year.

Because the tickets to Fitzroy island has run out. So I book the ticket here. Although 3 bucks more than normal price, it still really convenient for me to book it during the midnight one day before going. I hired snorkeling tools on the boat and Had a really good time on Fitzroy island.

The reef experience at Fitzroy (nudies) was great

We did a half day trip as we had already done a Great Barrier Reef tour with Ocean Freedom a couple of days ago. Plus we were didn’t want to get up early again! Anyway, wow! The reef we snorkeled at Fitzroy Was amazing, much more impressive then the day we went to the more distant reef space (Uplolo Reef). What a perfect surprise. We walked over the Nudie’s beach - a bit of a trek, but so worth it. We hired snorkelling gear on the boat, DONT WORRY about flippers, you don’t need them, they are just a pain to carry. Such a shame you need stinger suits (although most people weren’t wearing them). We had time for two hours snorkelling and a quick drink after. Could have done with an extra hour, but the full day would have been too big for what we were after (the full day of carrying equipment and wet towels etc was not what we wanted). With stinger suits, one snorkel session is enough, would be such a pain getting in and out of them over and over again. BUT if I had to choose to go full day snorkelling at Fitzroy and going on an outer reef day trip, I’d actually go to Fitzroy (family of 4, 2 kids 13 and 11).

Ok but could be better

If just going to Fitzroy island I would suggest booking the Fitzroy Flyer instead. Ferry was delayed 20-30mins each way as the ferry continues for the GBR tour. They say check in 45 mins prior which is way too long and end up sitting on ferry for 60 mins before it leaves.

pass, look for other transfers

The transfers started off fine. Once boarded the whole thing was about the people going onto the reef- nobody even mentioned anything to anyone going to Fitzroy island. After the drop off was done..come pick up time they came to pick up us "non important" guests off Fitzroy Island and of course they were significantly late. We all lined up in the sun at 4;15 like told and the transfer was late.. long story short we didn't end up returning to cairns till 6 pm, when I planned to be back by 5 and have an early dinner in Cairns before catching the bus to my accomodation.

Fitzroy is lovely

Expensive for boat trip, website misleading. Thought sun lover provided glass bottom boat and semi sun but this was only available for Moore reef. Even when I asked desk staff at check in they told me it will be weather dependent if it runs, not that it isn’t at Fitzroy at all. We had a great day snorkling but the cruise company was a let down.

Perfect start to end!

Amazing crew on the Sunlover both to and from the location and the most amazing day at Fitzroy Island. 10/10 I can not wait to book our next holiday experience with viator!

Amazing could not recommend more

The staff are amazing, as is the whole trip and everything you see! They take you to the most beautiful areas where the water is so clear!

Awesome experience

Thank you to the wonderful crew on board the boat. Each and every one of you were fantastic. Highly recommend this tour group. Alas my daughter got sea sick, but each and every crew member who assist did so with compassion and kindness. The crew were so informative of the island and what to do and clearly loved their jobs.

Staff made safety fun

The staff on this trip made it great. They gave a funny little safety talk that even had the kids interested. The staff were very attentive and accommodating. Just wished we had of chosen to go out to reef instead of the island as it was a wet rainy day with poor visibility in the water. Apparently the outer reef was clear as a bell, only hard part was getting out there in the rough seas!

No one was enforcing masks, the transfer was solely focussed on the pontoon visitors, would've been nice to have some recommendations for Fitzroy

Beautiful

Beautiful, the coral is very close and there are a great diversity of marine life, I swam with a turtle! The beach and the island are very pretty. Is a pity that for those that are not hosted in the resort the snorkel equipment rent is only available from 1 PM.

Big three level catamaran quite big and stable. The young lady staff was very friendly and helpful when I started experience a bit of motion sickness at one stage.

Overpriced transfer and slow

Other companies run transfers in much smaller boats, more personal, at the same price (or just $2 more). A "45 min transfer" only covers the time in the sea, but you have to be at the boat at 9am and only get to the island at 11am... may be because there's a lot of people and because while getting in you're waiting for every single person to take a picture in front of the boat (which they will later try to sell to you). All in all, would not advise this one if all you want is to go to Fitzroy Island.

We asked the staff a number or questions and they weren’t able to answer, they were rude. They talk to much on the loud speaker was annoying

Good Transfer, reliable, price accordingly

It was a smooth transfer. The ferry has plenty of seats for everyone, they also sell drinks and some snacks. We were drop at fitzroy Island and then pick up on time at the same spot. I thought the ferry is bit pricey, but all ferries have about the same price, so not much to about it. I was there is high season and was lucky to get a spot the night before but I suggested you book ahead of time. Everyone at the boat were super friendly.

If you've come all the way to Cairns, why not go to a remote island?

The beach is made of coral, and there are also nudist beaches. The sea is very relaxing. There are few people, so you can play in the sea all day. On the other hand, there is nothing but the sea. You probably won't be able to enjoy other activities. There are quite a few centers, so you can join a snorkeling tour or scuba diving tour there.
