Entrance to Szechenyi Spa in Budapest

In need of a good clean and facelift.

It’s a lovely spa, nice to see the historic side. However relatively unclean, lots of scum on the top of the indoor pools and algae on the outdoor baths. Also signs of mould indoors and lots of broken areas. I came a few years ago and it was in better shape then. It just needs fixing up a little. So a tad expensive for what it’s worth in my opinion. They also allow people to reserve the subbed with towels without them coming back to them for hours which is kinda annoying as a solo traveler not having anywhere to sit.

Rude

The young lad on reception was very rude to the paying customers and needs to brush up on his customer service manners. Apart from that I had a very enjoyable experience and would definitely recommend visiting.

Superb

Easy to find, really lovely baths, everything you need for a great relaxing time. Clean and tidy. Enjoyed.

Good venue. Don't buy tickets through Trip Advisor. Book direct.

Do not book this trip through Trip Advisor, the ticket they send you only has a bar code that is not acceptable when you try to enter the baths, it has to be a QR code which you do not receive in the tickets via email. We had to buy tickets again to get in. Will try to get my money back.

Széchenyi Spa

Amazing; it's a must do. Go early as all the sun beds get taken. Pre book a locker and take swim suit, flip flops and towel with you and water to drink. Water is so warm and pleasure to sit and soak up the sites and sun. Not one to miss, get booking,

I really enjoyed today. The water was so warm and inviting, we were lucky as we could spend time sunbathing. Of course it is busy, it is a public place! but we were able to find sunbeds when we got there.

Relaxing but busy spa.

Enjoyed our spa experience overall - the spacious size needed being on a busy beautiful Sunday. Found the changing facilities good and easy to follow guidance. At a doddery age of 80, I found walking around quite easy and safe but although plenty of seating not sufficient sun loungers to go around. Had we gone an hour later 4pm., we discovered from others they had to queue for almost an hour to get in and because of capacity issues, later ones were turned away.

Relaxing and therapeutic

Amazing outdoor thermal bath - beautiful surroundings, good facilities. Could only spend 1-2 hours due to short trip but that was actually plenty.

Lovley but expensive

Lovley and warm but very expensive for basically going into a pool. Surfaces at changing are quite slippy so be careful. Lockers are good .

Amazing Time

The thermal pool was lovely and warm. So relaxing, could’ve stayed there all day. Great selection of pools, sauna, spa etc inside too

Amazing few hours such a fun relaxing wonderful place

Wow finally got to visit the famous baths of Budapest and it didt disappoint so glad I made the decision to travel to this wonderful place

Great trip to spa

Great pre trip communication. Spa was lovely we were lucky with weather and it wasn’t too busy. We’d recommend renting a Kabin to get changed in and store your stuff!

Very dirty, poor and disappointing

My partner and I visited the spa for our 5th anniversary and unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. Firstly, the changing rooms were dirty, I didn’t see anyone cleaning them, my local leisure centre is cleaner. The spa was overcrowded, loud and full of young people shouting and messing around. It was like being on a 18-30 holiday. Overall the spa wasn’t a relaxing, pleasurable experience, we didn’t even stay in an hour! To be honest, I think 2 out of 5 is generous! I wouldn’t visit again and wouldn’t recommend it and definitely not worth the money 👎🏻

Relaxation and fun in one!

What a brilliant experience we had here. My Mum and me went on a city break to Budapest and couldn't miss out trying out these Thermal Spring Baths. We booked in advance and tickets were sent to my phone which was super easy. I'd definitely recommend the entire experience. Really helpful staff, they provide an electronic wristband for the lockers so no need for any spare change or coins which was great too. Swim caps can be worn or at least having long hair tied back is requested here.

Very busy but a good experience.

Great experience. Probably wouldn’t return. Even when website said sold out they sell *cheaper* tickets on the door. The indoor pools did not seem as luxurious as the outside one. Be prepared for LOTS of people around.

A spectacular outdoor spa experience - just make sure you go in good weather

We had read good reviews of the Szechenyi Spa, but didn’t totally know what to expect. This is a spectacular spa complex, huge natural warm outdoor thermal pools, with plenty of space for sun loungers and with drinks and food available for sale. The thermal pools are remarkable, with wave effects, fountains and water that was 30 degrees in April. It’s literally like being at a resort, you could spend the day there, dipping in and out of the thermal pools and relaxing with a beer in the sun on your lounger. The water is warm enough that it would probably still be comfortably warm in much cooler weather or at night, however clearly being out by the pool would be less pleasant, so it depends what kind of experience you’re looking for. We went in April in 20 degree sunny weather and it was perfect. However I wouldn’t recommend going for the indoor spa pools, or expecting them to be an enjoyable plan b in poor weather. These felt tepid, the surroundings a bit dank and very much a municipal swimming pool vibe. There are genuine facilities such as saunas and steam rooms, so if those are your thing then feel free. I rated this 5 stars based on the outdoor pools / environment. If I’d only been able to visit the indoor spaces it would have likely only been 2 stars.

The place was unsanitary... the whole experience was not something i could recommend to think this is one of the.most popular things to do in Budapest is beyond me

This place was amazing very good value for money, several indoor pools and spas indoors as well, you need a swimming cap for the pool

Excellent experience, well worth a visit. Top tips from our trip are; Make sure you take your own towels and flip flops/sliders. There are various pools/baths inside that are accessible with the standard entry ticket but one is not made aware of that when checking in. Changing facilities are excellent, locker use is FOC. We visited on a Friday, which apparently is classed as part of the weekend..!, and the cost was around £25/pp.

Impressive But Busy

We arrived at 1330 and the entry was quick and easy, staff very helpful. It was very busy inside, luckily we found a couple of sun loungers to call base. The water in the outdoor pools is incredibly warm and very relaxing although we didn't visit the indoor thermal pools. I would book if you want a cabin as there were none available when we got there..

The thermal baths

It was a little bit on the tatty side and would benefit from an injection of cash which could go some way into improving the signage and therefore the experience as a whole.

Ok but very much public experience

A hot public pool with some debris on the bottom of the pool. Lockers semi clean. Very much a public place. Few options for food.

A definite must do

My husband and I totally loved this experience. The only thing I'd say is that it isn't very well signposted when you get in, so as a til the main baths are in from of you and the building opposite is where all the other baths are

Difficult entry

The baths themselves were definitely worth a visit. Unfortunately, as other reviewers have said, they are unable to scan Viator QR codes at the entrance. This resulted in a 30 minute hassle trying to gain admission. I called Viator customer service but got no answer. Eventually the people at the gate took pity on me and let me in, but I’m not sure they would all do that. Viator did reach out later, but it was too late to be of any help. I was hesitant to book with them because of other reviews, but I thought surely they had worked it out by now.

What a lovely way to spend the day! We pre booked a cabin and spend the day dipping in and out of hot and cold pools. So relaxing and just a very pleasant experience.

Relaxing

For what one pays to get into the thermal baths you need to allow at least 3hrs if not more. Do you could eat, drink, relax and use all the different baths.

Dont book via Tripadvisor!

Bookes 2 Ticketmaster through Tripadvisor a week in advance. The day before I got an e mail that the bath was full so I didnt have tickets anymore. Still I could book trough the baths own webpage. Dont book through Tripadvisor, only scam.

Worth it once

Place is crowded, and you have to do it once in your life. The company sent the ticket on time, helping me to avoid lines. Thumbs up

Beautiful way to spend a day

The spa was beautiful and the water and facilities were clean. We purchased our same day tickets through Trip Advisor which allowed us to go directly into the facility without waiting in line. We purchased flip flops and towels on site. The weather was cold and raining - it was a perfect day to soak in the hot thermal pool.

Chilled out

A really lovely experience, with great facilities. Take a towel with you and make sure you put it somewhere you can see it/ place a bag of your things on top so you know it’s yours. The main outdoor pool is fantastic, but don’t miss the indoor pools too.

Great Time.

Not sure what to expect but everything was well signposted, clean and well run. We arrived about 10 and it wasn't too busy. Tip- claim you sun bed early! Food was good ad well.

Painfully average

Very crowded. Difficult to find a chair. Band aids & other stuff in pools. Tiles broken in places. Hard to find anyone working there to ask a question. Surprisingly with all the people no issues & other visitors we met were friendly. Everyone said to go so we went. It was a nice break on a hot day.

Best Event of the Stag Weekend

Stag Weekend with 4 hrs spent at this BRILLIANT Spa. 2 massive pools outside at different temperatures, close to 20 other smaller pools inside the fabulous old building. Beers outside by the Pools, this place got the vote from all 12 of us as The best day of the Stag Weekend. Simply Brilliant.

Cool experience

It's a must see even though I'm a germ freak. Hot bath with a few hundred people is a bit much for me but the history and beauty of the place is pretty cool.

Most memorable was...

Most memorable was arriving and not being able to get tickets. There was some trouble between tour operator and your system. Our receipt was there but could not activate tickets. One of your guest services ladies made a couple of calls and tried to help us, but to no avail. We managed to contact operator and did get the problem rectified over an hour later. We enjoyed our much needed r & r on a beautiful after that start up😎

Relaxing break from drinking on the stag

Relaxing visit but really just a big spar. Very busy we paid cash on the day 10900flns You also need towel and flip Flops which can be purchased there. Steam room and sauna are good but very busy

Mixed views

Had a lovely time in the spa baths but a few things were not quite what was expected. The reception was busy with people all over the place, no real welcome or guidance as to where to go once inside. In the end we followed others to what we thought was a cabin to change. However, a rude officious man literally stood guard at the entrance barring our way. We tried to ask where the cabins were, he threw his arm up say NO, NO. YOU PAY and was rubbing his finger and thumb together. On trying to ask a question my colleague was stared at in silence for what seemed ages before he continued to talk about paying for a cabin. He was very condescending. He sent us downstairs to the open changing rooms, this was not what we were expecting. We were advised by a very nice lady to go to the shop to buy a cabin. This cost 1,000.00 forints extra. The ‘guard’ let us through once he knew we’d paid for a cabin by placing the updated bracelet against a reader. Well, I call it a cabin it was more like a cell, 2 foot by 2 foot. Made of wood, painted dark green and in a row of four or five others. Thankfully all doors had locks. This was not a great start to what we were really forward to. The Viator write up states the ticket includes your own locker or the luxury of a private changing cabin. What it doesn’t tell you is that the locker is in an open changing room and the cabins cost much extra and are only just about big enough for one person, can’t see any luxury there. However, the spa and baths themselves were great, we loved them all. Having hot sunny weather made it all the better. Such a shame about the start of our visit.

Great day out, terrible third party booking provider

The baths were a great experience and would highly recommend, however do not purchase via Viator This third party company took our money and never sent the tickets. We asked for a refund thinking it was a genuine mistake and they are refusing!! We ended up having to pay again when we were there- although it worked out even cheaper than pre booking using this company

Worth a visit

Good experience , nice atmosphere and beautiful place. Staff not very friendly or helpful. Inside pools ok but bit of a funny smell.

Been there done that

Lovely Temperature in the baths, one of the main pools outside was closed however. There are lots of people and you will struggle to get a sun lounger if you don’t get there early. Stunning on a sunny day.

Rude Staff

First off avoid booking on rip off trip advisor, Almost double the price booking through them. We had a stressful day and unfortunately booked tickets for the wrong date (the week after). we tried to explain it to the staff who where beyond rude and made us pay again. So we paid 3 times the fee for entry by booking via trip advisor (double the price) and the mix up on the date. Staff at the front desk were beyond unhelpful

A bit pricey

Very nice hot pools of varied temperatures The outside pool was much nicer and very warm even in April and I’m sure in the summer it would be a lovely place to spend the day . But I think for a couple of hours it is a bit overpriced

Don't go imagining a spa

Staff were pretty grumpy. It was very very full and quite dirty. Not a relaxing or very nice experience. Would recommend the Gellert instead

Awful experienced in Budapest

Spa is not relaxing very commercialised staff not accommodating and had a very bad experienced using metro going to spa staff was very aggressive to tourist we always travel me and my husband first time we encountered very bad experienced asking our passports inspite showing our return tickets bought in metro highly not recommended going to Budapest sorry if you want a beautiful spa go to iceland

Worth a visit

Good experience, definitely worth a visit. Morning is much quieter to visit and get a sun bed for the day. Reasonable prices for food and drinks on site.

Really good atmosphere water was nice and toasty.. purchased towels on arrival that were a little pricey to say the least but overall we enjoyed our time here.
