At Stephen’s Basilica

The guides explanation of each of the statues and pictures. Rosie was quite knowledgeable, but still a little green.

One of the nicest venues in Budapest

The church was beautiful. They charge for admission but not outrageous. There is no audio and they say there’s an App but Wifi in the church is weak. It is a stately building and took a lot of effort to complete but is a beautiful Christian church in a once communist controlled country. It is worth the add on of the Treasury and Tower options. But you are on your own. No guides, no groups, and the pamphlets were lacking any meaningful history. One wonders why they charge, when most basilicas with limited information are free, with donations accepted. The added options require quite a bit of walking up stairs and the elevators and small with long lines waiting. Worth seeing, but tacky to make a tourist trap of a church. For a Catholic of faith, it is really embarrassing and for a place of worship to turned into circus like atmosphere. If you are going to charge, at least have an audio guide like most museums or live group guides and the fee would be understood, even though it is totally out of protocol for a church of the Catholic faith to do this. St. Peter would find a way to turn himself right side up under St. Peter’s square if he knew they were doing this. They certainly don’t do this in the Vatican at St. Peter’s Square and St. Peter’s Basilica.

Poor guidance by Viator - guide good, Viator not so much

Our tour was the Basilica of St Stephen in Budapest. An amazing structure. Tour was well done by our guide although very soft spoken she presented herself well with an abundance of historical information and folklore. Generally well done. Finding our guide was a challenge thanks to Viator, final location information for us was long coming and changed from the original booking. No identification to find the guide was offered. The offered free app contained lots of ads, but would not allow our ticket download.

Our guide gave excellent explanations of the history of the church and the history of Hungary as represented by the saints.

Most memorable? That we...

Most memorable? That we were the only people on the tour so we basically had a private tour. This meant instead of a lecture, it was a personal conversation between us and the guide. She was excellent.

Beautiful church. It wa Easter so quite a few people but our guide did a great job. The trip to the top was included and well worth it.

Wonderful tour of Saint Stephen's Basilica

This was a wonderful tour. Our tour guide, Juli, was fantastic and very knowledgable. It was very easy to find her in front of the basilica. Very happy we selected this tour. Highly recommend!

Nice view!

Whhat a beautfiul basilica! We climbed up to the top to see the city from above! Also there is a really good reszaurant next to it!!

Very ornate cathedral

Fairly short place to visit. Extremely ornate ,beautiful stained glass windows and ceilings.well worth a look.

A Wonderful Basilica Tour with Kati

Kati, our guide, was gracious, kind, very clear in her speech and full of enthusiasm and information for her subject: the architecture, art, and history of St. Stephen's. She arranged our tours of the Basilica Treasury and views from the Dome, as well. Outstanding.

Beautiful cathedral. Tour guide was very informative and friendly. Thank you for the lift as I could not have climbed the stairs. The view from the top terrace was amazing.

Tour of St Stephen’s

Alexandra gave us a very informative and enjoyable tour of the basilica. She provided many details of history and symbolism in the art which made our tour absolutely fascinating. We really enjoyed our tour with her and would recommend it.

Stunning church, knowledgeable guide

The church interior in particular is absolutely stunning and my guide Dalia was very knowledgeable in a quiet low-key kind of way - she made sure to let me take the tour at my own pace, didn't bombard me with facts but made sure that I left knowing a lot more about the church and the history of Hungary than I did before we started

Basilica beautiful setting, magnificent building.

Beautiful setting, magnificent building. Fantastic views of the city. Well worth a visit for all ages as there is a lift to take you to the very top. Stairs down are a lot easier indeed.

Great experience

The inside of the Basilica is spectacular and the panoramic view from the tower is stunning. The tour guide had a lot of interesting information about the Basilica.

Worse Experience

The tour guide was a nice person, but they were not a good storyteller. Instead of a group tour, I ended up with only one other person. The tour guide was inconsistent in narrating the history and stories; they jumped from one sentence to another. Additionally, the tour only lasted 1 hour instead of the expected 2 hours. It was an unpleasant experience, unfortunately.

Saturday visit

Guide was great but there was a wedding in the church so we couldn't get the full tour in. We suppose it was seeing the Hungarian culture....

Such a great guide and tour

Worth it if you like old and beautiful churches

The guide was knowledgeable, she provided lots of details about the church. The view on the top was worth it as it provides a nice view of the city. We are satisfied with the tour. The Basilica itself, while is still pretty and impressively decorated, is not comparable with other more grand churches like St Peter's in Rome or even some a lot less known churches such as the ones in Vienna (Austria), Passau (Austria) and Regensberg (Germany), three other cities we visited after Budapest.

Susan was very knowledgeable about the history of the city and the history of the Hungarian people as well as the construction of the bascilica. Understanding the Catholic faith also helped a lot. Really enjoyed our conversation.

Nice eviews of the city and the holy relic

You must buy a ticket at the office outside, despite reviewers saying it is free to access, wasn't too expensive (dint remember the exact cost). You enter from the left of the main entrance and move around the cathedral to the exit on the right. That's where the stairs and elevator are for the dome. Stairs isn't particularly difficult 220 steps appx until the next one which has again a lift or another 100 steps. Nice views of the city and the cathedral is nice too, can be sifficult to see the "hold hand" of St Stephen but if you stay back you can get a nice pic from distance with no glass glare

Informative tour

This tour was great to obtain the history behind Budapest and the Basilica. Unfortunately I am unable to recommend our tour lady's name, but she was wonderful.

I have now done a lot of tours in various places but this is definitely one of the best and mainly because of our tour guide Dalia. She was so friendly made the tour really interesting and gave us lots of information to help us enjoy Budapest more. The church itself is beautiful and we also went up to the dome which gave lovely views over Budapest. Great tour

Excellent guided tour

Excellent tour with Dalia, she was very knowledgeable about the Basilica and Budapest’s history. She took her time explaining the different parts of the Basilica and was also asking if anyone had an questions, adapted for my needs as a disabled customer.

This was a really fascinating tour. Our guide Vincent was so knowledgeable about the history of St Stephen's. He really knew his stuff and went out of his way to ensure that we enjoyed the tour. Incredible beautiful

It really is a work of art . Everywhere you look is beautiful , the painted cúpula and the altar are jus stunning. You'll have an amazing view of Budapest from the top of the tower
