Great tour of the market with Andrew, who is passionate and knowledgable about local Hungarian foods and ingredients. Great to learn about the history of the market building as well. The fresh produce was amazing. The Palinka was an unexpected but fun addition for breakfast! Highly recommend!

Great market/food tour!

We had a great tour. Andrew is very knowledgeable about food and the history of the market. We got tastings of some traditional Hungarian foods, and information about other local products. Plenty of food to eat, and his suggestion to do the tour at 9am before things got busy was a good one - it was quite crowded when we left. Highly recommended!

Andrew - a super guide!

Andrew is an excellent tour guide. He took us on a 2hr+ tour of the market telling us about the history, food and answering our questions about the market and Budapest in general. He shared several samples of food with us and gave us information about the culture in Hungary. Highly recommend Andrew!

An explosion of visual and culinary delights

We enjoyed a full-on packed 2 hours with Andrew, our knowledgeable and gregarious guide, in the vibrant food market. Our tour began at 9am on Saturday which enabled us to beat the crowds and queues. We started with a traditional lángos with sour cream and cheese topping washed down with a slurp of Andrew's homemade moonshine palinka, which was deliciously warming. The best palinka we'd had in Budapest. I was grateful to have a guide for many reasons, but not least to have him do the purchasing in the market where the forint is predominant. We tried a wide array of the most delicious traditional foods. Pickled green tomato was surprisingly good.

Great food tour

Had a great tour around the market, great information about food and history of Budapest and the market hall, more food than we could eat but able to take bits away with us which was nice and try some new, interesting things. The tour is in the morning when the market is still quiet so it means you are able to see everything and get around easily, we went again later in our holiday and it was a totally different experience, was nice to see at different times. Great tour guide, would recommend as a must if you are visiting!

This food tour through the market is wonderful. Andrew is knowledgeable about food and all things related to the market. We loved all the foods that we tried and we can’t imagine navigating through this big market on our own. Andrew is kind and passionate about what he does. Explore the market with a local

If you're looking to do something different from a usual sightseeing tour, go round the market with Andrew. He is very knowledgeable and you can see so much more with a local. We sampled local food, pickles, learnt about local porcelain and embroidery. We were not disappointed.

Excellent tour and great background

We had an excellent tour with Andrew of this very large market. He was friendly, personable and spoke very good English. He navigated us around this very large and complex space, from the souvenir stands right through all levels of food. He was ready to answer any questions, helped us find good deals on paprika and other food items to take home and plied us with lots to eat - sampling all sorts of Hungarian food. He also gave us a good introduction to life in Hungary - as much as one can get in 2 hours. This tour fulfilled our expectations, and then some. I would heartily recommend Andrew to anyone genuinely interested in Hungarian food.

The Central Market is a very authentic Hungarian market that would have been challenging to fully experience if Andrew wasn’t there to lead us through it. He knew the best stands to eat at and the best stands to buy authentic Hungarian work from rather than resale items from other countries. His English is perfect (he lived in the US for many years) and we had great conversation about Hungary’s history and food traditions. It was great having someone who spoke perfect Hungarian to interact with those running the stand. He clearly has a great relationship with everyone since they all seemed happy to see him. The food was great of course. You will try a wide variety of foods that are all delicious in their own way.

A Wonderful Ramble Through Cuisine, History, Geography, Fermentation, and AI

I had a fantastic solo tour of the Budapest Market with Andrew. He certainly knows his food - he's clearly an expert at Hungarian cuisine, understands the impact of history and geography on the food, and makes it all very entertaining. A super tour that was adapted towards my interests - certainly not a cookie-cutter experience. I'd highly recommend spending some time touring the market with Andrew. What a great two hours!

Enthusiastic Overview of the Budapest Market

Andrew provided a good overview of the market and was very enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of Hungarian cuisine. Entertaining and educational tour and we learned much about Hungarian food from Andrew. Andrew spend several years in the US after being reared in Hungary; as well as having perfect command of English, he understood what would be of interest to us. Recommended.

A fun and filling tour of the Budapest Market

Andrew was a lot of fun to hang out with at the Budapest Market. We were able to sample a wide variety of foods from different vendors. Andrew had lots of good stories and information about the foods that he introduced to us and we were able to get an nice overall feel for the types of fare purchased at the Market by the Budapest natives. Andrew was very knowledgeable of Budapest having been raised here and continues to reside here. He also spent a period of time in the states so he can share the contrasts between the states and Hungry.. he additionally speaks English very well.

We are so happy that we took the Great Central Market tour. Andrew, our guide was not only knowledgeable but also pleasant and fun. We would have been overwhelmed with all the booths to see and with how crowded the market can get had we been on our own. The only way to visit the great Market

Wow this is the way to visit the market--start at 9am with a local. In 2019 we visited the market at the worst time--crowded and closing down so we wanted to do it right this time. The market can be crowded and overwhelming but at 9am it is only the vendors setting up. Andrew is a fun and knowledgeable guy---he even smuggled in some homemade palinka (like a very strong brandy) to get the morning started. Many different morsels to try out, fun discussion. I highly recommend this tour
