One of the best in Birmingham

This was the 10th escape room I have been to in Birmingham, and it is one of the best and most memorable. The GM was friendly, polite and explained things well. The escape room itself was very atmospheric and the puzzles were logical - not that they were easy, but they didn't leave you randomly guessing solutions. The NPC actor played their part to a tee. Would recommend without question.

Great fun!

Naz was a great game host. Aided us well. Scary and very fun. Lots of screams and laughter. Would definitely recommend. Perfect for two people or for a big group!

Great Experience!

Room: Survival Number of Players: 3 Price: £89.10 (inc 10% discount) Escape Time: 64:11 / 90:00 Game Master: Naz Game overall was quite good, but could be amazing with a few improvements. Naz was very good and friendly. She gave helpful hints when we asked for help, and told us when we hit the half-way point, which I found useful. The environment is a LOT more immersive than the ones I've had with ClueHQ so far. The rooms are of a decent size, meaning you can fit larger groups (unlike ClueHQ where you can only fit about 3 people in). However there is not that many puzzles, and you can't really complete these puzzles simultaneously, so no more than 3 active players is what I would recommended for the best experience. In the game we had 3 players, but only given 2 torches. Although the worker said this is part of the fun, I personally think it sucks the fun out of it, as it almost makes it a 2 player game, and 1 player is required to be joined at the hip (so bring people who are co-operative and willing to share the torch). I don't know how many torches are handed out for other sized games. We had a malfunction with the radio, where the game master needed to come in to help fix, which breaks immersion a bit. I also think the NPC was a bit too nice, which is immersion breaking for a horror game. The puzzles was very interesting, although a few were a bit on the confusing side. I really like this room was 90min instead of the usual 60min. It meant we could take a bit more time with the puzzles and get out in time. Nevertheless, I feel the room should have more puzzles, and a few of the puzzles need to be made clearer. Without spoiling anything, there were some very interesting and unique set pieces, that I haven't experienced in other escape rooms as of yet. Highly recommended! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Improvements: - A few more puzzles. We finished very early on with minimal hints. - 3 torches for 3 player games. 2 torches almost makes it a 2 player game. - Few more jump-scares ### SPOLIERS ### - (SPOILER) - I think when the NPC asks us to split up, there needs to be a more organic way to split us up without just telling us. e.g. we each need to press a button simultaneously in different rooms, and the doors shuts on us. Otherwise the immersion can be broken. - (SPOLIER) - The jail bar puzzle may need to be clearer. Really struggled to get the zero. - (SPOLIER) - The puzzle with the sacks containing dates, jobs, and colour was a bit odd, as they resulted in 2 solutions and each solution is inputted in different rooms. The final room should probably have it's own unique puzzle. ### SPOLIERS ###

Poor overall experience.

Tired, lack lustre and simple. Advertised as a 5 star difficulty horror themed room with few padlocks, we didn't rush through by any means and were done in 41 minutes. We counted 7 puzzles to complete in total with 3 padlock style puzzles. Naz was a welcoming host but frankly having an NPC ruined the experience as it broke the atmosphere. There is no story, just random 'scary' posters and props, which makes you wonder what you are trying to achieve when starting the room. Loud music in the room made no sense and couldn't hear the other people. Traps actually hurt too, be warned. You'd be far better spending the 10 extras minutes travelling into central Birmingham and getting a far better crafted escape experience. Price is extortionate for the quality of this escape room, I'd personally advise to avoid.

Scary but fun

Survival is great! We went on Friday and Naz was excellent, made our experience so good and probably enjoyed laughing at us. No spoilers but if you like atmospheric horror you won’t be disappointed. It had everything you would expect if you were to be dropped into a horror film. It’s worth venturing out for. We will hopefully be back to Birmingham in the future to try their other room (and if they bring out anymore) as it was so fun!

What a scream!

What a blast this experience was! My friends and I were very hungover and about to bail but I’m so glad we didn’t. Naz greeted us and made us feel so welcome and comfortable. She was fantastic and clear with instructions and even though the rooms were scary - it was so funny! Would’ve paid good money for our experience to be filmed haha - think we swore and jumped so much. Best escape room we’ve ever done and we’re still laughing about it days later. Can’t wait to come back somewhen and do the other room!

BEST DAY EVER

I was lucky enough to visit 404 escape today and play my first escape room and let's just say it did not disappoint. The staff were welcoming and friendly, the room was well thought out and really made me feel like it was real. I enjoyed my experience immensely and would definitely recommend 404 escape to anyone looking for a fun, exciting, and thrilling day out. Thankyou so much to my host Naz, the excitement throughout the delivery of your brief and your welcoming smile made me feel at ease, so much so I almost forgot she was about to lock me in a room. I cannot wait to play another escape room here.

THE BEST INTERACTIVE ESCAPE ROOM IN BIRMINGHAM

404 escapes … where do I begin. As someone who has spent years working in escape rooms I am not an easy person to impress but I need to say that this was THE BEST EXPERIENCE I’ve ever had. I won’t say too much as to not ruin it for all you future players but I will say this: the staff were welcoming, friendly, funny and immediately put you at ease; the puzzles are well thought out, challenging and incredibly rewarding; the design of the rooms is so immersive and realistic that i genuinely forgot it was an escape room for at least ten minutes… okay maybe it was the whole game … I apologise to my teammates who had to deal with me thinking this was life or death and finally the girl running our game, Naz, was just THE WHOLE PACKAGE. She explained everything so well and played her part with passion and conviction. If you are considering playing a room here, stop thinking and start booking because it was honesty a AMAZING experience that I will never forget.

Spooky night at 404 Escape

A super exciting experience overall and the escape room was filled with fun puzzles. Sam was brilliant and spooked us all, so would highly recommend to friends and family. A great activity for anyone living in Selly Oak!

Best Escape room in Brum

I'm very pleased with the service especially a Mr Sam Ellwood. Made us feel very comfortable, gave a great briefing at the start and will give you some good clues if you ask nicely. Would recommend if your looking for a challenging but not impossible escape room. Very immersive and a great experience overall. :)

Amazing escape room!

This was arguably one of the best escape rooms that we have done to date. The gent who designed them has put a lot of thought into the layout, the puzzles and the theme. You can see he was proud of his work and with good reason! Each room had puzzles that were much different to the last which kept it fresh and interesting. The horror setting was just the icing on the cake! Looking forward to more when the new room is available!

Spooky & smart

Absolutely insane, and probably the first escape room that's genuinely spooked me! The room was challenging, but each puzzle made sense when you thought about them logically & each room was very different - this really felt like a hands on experience with some great surprises. 100% recommend both of the 404 escape rooms we did. The chap who designed them clearly has a passion for it and I'm excited to see what he comes up with next!

Cool puzzles with an immersive experience :D

The puzzles were fun to crack and took us some doubling back to figure out, interesting and at the right difficulty that they were listed as. Good red herrings as well, but maybe make some puzzles less easy to blind guess? Mum got thoroughly scared in Survival, but id say its mild to moderate scares. Some areas are a bit flimsy but i suppose thats due to more turbulent participants before us hahah. (I mean hey its a sign people are having fun lol) Go support them!! They have have more rooms to come ~

Proper scary fun.

This was really good fun. The whole escape room experience was massively heightened by being constantly on edge due to the "horror" elements of it. A really enjoyable 80 minutes.

Best escape room I have ever been to. It is scary, challenging and fun in general. I would definitely recommend to everyone who wants a good entertainment. It exceeded my expectations. James was a good game master.

Nice idea, let down by execution

Gonna be honest I do not understand all the 5-star reviews*. The whole thing felt tired including the game master, who clearly just couldn't give a toss, no offence. The horror was lacklustre I'm sorry to say. It was dark. There were jump scares. That was about it. The set left something to be desired and the puzzles too. Plus a fair amount of jank. Sorry just didn't feel worth the price point. Love escape rooms and immersive stuff and this just didn't do it for us. ( *lots of 1-contribution accounts so hmmmmmm. )

Best Escape room for Scary/Horror movie fans!

Me and my partner took part in the Survival escape room yesterday and we were not disappointed! Ive done escape rooms in the past however my partner has not and its going to take a lot of convincing to get him to complete another one after this one (in a good way!). If you think the reviews about this being ‘scary’ and ‘Terrifying’ are not true I can confirm that this is the SCARIEST one I have ever done. The rooms and puzzles are alone scary but with the added effect of music, darkness and NCP involved it will leave you feeling like you are in a horror movie (for scary film fans you will love it!). The host was very friendly and explained everything before starting and we even got onto the wall of people that managed to escape, with 15 minutes left to spare. We are both still laughing about it now (the day after) and I will definitely struggle to find an escape room as enjoyable and as scary as this one. 100% recommend to do this as I will definitely be returning to try out the others!

Challenging, scary and lots of fun

Brilliant experience! Really immersive and genuinely terrifying at times, a great atmosphere helped by James as our game master/tormenter. Would would highly recommend.

A frightening amazing experience!

James the game master was fantastic, each room was challenging and the constant fright of the NPC put you on edge all the time. Finished in 76 minutes with quite a few clues but left feeling ecstatic. Would recommend to anyone!

Amazing

Had a fantastic time in Escape 404. We did the horror themed escape room and it was proper scary. The puzzles were excellent. We've done quite a few escape rooms and this was one of the best, if not the best horror themed escape room. We thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly highly recommend.

Was an amazing experience, James the games master was awesome and he went above and beyond to make the experience scary. I now know what real fear due his excellent acting. Will be going there again in the future.

We found this on Google, didn’t know what to expect. Had a really good time! We need a few hints to get us through which we we’re pleased to see was unlimited. Was a very good set up and very easy to navigate the rooms. Would highly recommend to groups of friends! Matt was a great host, so thank you!

Brilliant

A brilliant escape room! A lot of effort went into making it and every room was intense! Some rooms were difficult but it was worth it when you got to the next room!

Amazing and Immersive!

So I'm a super forgetful gal and I've only just rediscovered my time card from doing the survival room! And I know they probably don't work there anymore but I went with my partner and brother for my 21st birthday back in March and it was honestly one of the most fun (and spooky) rooms that I've done! Bethe was our game host and they were honestly such a fun and passionate person! Truly a credit to the company and I hope to see them again if they're ever at 404!! They really adapted the room and made the experience really immersive and personal!! Honestly still can never get over how fun of an experience coming here was! Thank you again so so much Bethe!!

survival - just ok

Survival - A bit disappointing. We paid (£115, had a discount code should have been £124) which is a lot but decided to go for it based on it being 90 mins and good reviews. There were multiple rooms but the set was nothing special. The whole thing is in the dark and you are given one light, which just became really annoying as only one person at a time could look for clues. Maybe it was to make it more challenging but it just became annoying that 1 person was doing something and the other 3 just stood there. Also other than maybe a couple of unexpected jumps it wasn’t very scary at all compared to others we have done. We also asked for a clue after getting stuck, we were given the part we had already worked out. We asked for another a while later after moving no further and we were given the same clue again. There are 6 rooms but there is only really one clue per room, not the most creative and as mentioned nothing special on the set. Unfortunately there are definitely better options out there.

Survival is amazing!!!

Survival was incredible, as a person who played around 15-20 rooms and also works in an escape room, I would recommend this room. We escaped within 75 minutes and the room was challenging. We all loved it. Special thanks to John who made the experience even scarier upon request. We want to come back and play this room again, as well as play the hospital theme they have.

Great experience! Definitely recommend. Our game master was Matt who was very welcoming and helped us with many many clues 🤣 the game was hard but we managed to get through with only 2 minutes to spare! 5/5 stars for the family experience and the lovely service! The best escape room game we have attempted.

As a family of 5, we have completed a number of escape rooms around the UK but I have to say this has been our best experience. Everything from being blindfolded at the start of the game to the puzzles was brilliant and thought out. Heads up, I would be a fan of horror to this game! We did like the fact that the game is 90 minutes long as you feel you are getting real value for money but that time does go fast when you are having fun. James is a great host and I can't wait for the new game to be built so that we can come back and conquer it.
