Our tour guide, Jordi, told us that if we only go to Las Ramblas, we would get only a very crowded and touristy experience of Barcelona, and he was right. We walked through Las Ramblas the day after our Secret Food Tour with Jordi, and it lacked the charm and local flavor of what he showed us. Our tour with Jordi gave us an exposure to key highlights such as jamon iberico, tapas, paella, and much more. We visited a food market that was much less crowded than the famous St Joseph Bouqueria, and easier to experience as a result, as well as a great tapas restaurant (Jai Ca) in Barceloneta that you might miss if you weren't local. And he provided great coffeehouse recommendations that were useful for after the tour. I highly recommend this tour as a way to experience a more real side of Barcelona.

Tapas and Cava!

Ricardo is a wonderful guide who is absolutely passionate about his city, and particularly the old town area where he has lived for many years. He made the whole experience come alive. The food was wonderful, we learnt some history and really enjoyed it. We’d definitely recommend this to anyone thinking of doing this tour.

Great way to meet some fun people, learn about Barcelona, and eat some good tapas!

My wife and I joined this tour and loved it. Miguel was our guide and he was engaging, provided tons of information on the history of the city and Spain in general, and of course all the food we sampled. His passion for his culture and food was contagious. We liked the tapas more than the final lunch, but felt that the overall experience was great. We really enjoyed meeting some great people during the tour.

Great tour and great gide with Muriel!

Muriel was a great guide. The tour was informative and provided great history on the food. We did not got to chains or touristy spots but instead got to experience spots locals frequent. The distance and amount of stops was perfect.

Our tour with Miguel was awesome! We had so much fun and loved all the food. The group was super friendly, and Miguel did a great job sharing lots of information and making everyone feel included. The best tasting tour in Barcelona!

I had such a blast tasting all different types of food in Barcelona on this tour! Miguel was the best tour guide! He did a great job explaining not only the different types of food but the culture and way of life of eating food in Barcelona. We got to try foods from pastry shops, fresh food from the local markets, tapas and seafood. Plus great sangria and cava! Definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Barcelona! Miguel also sent tons of great recommendations for other places to check out while in Barcelona and mixed in stops of history along the tour too!

Awesome tour

The whole tour was fantastic. The food was delicious and varied. We explored different areas and got some interesting history too. Communication and knowledge of our guide was excellent and he was very helpful and attentive. He made it interesting and was entertaining with stories, and we all became like a group of friends meeting for tapas.

A Taste of History

Our guide JORDI was just great! He began the tour with some history of Spain and Barcelona, which put the influence of the different cultures on Barcelona food into context. He brought us to several different places , beginning with a super bakery, and wound thru the Bari Gotic past numerous shops, a local food market, a stop for Vermut and Tapas, ending in Barcelonetta for an excellent Paella. All along the way he spoke of the interesting history of the city. This was an excellent tour of the city and a great way to learn about its food , history and people. The tour lasted 4 1/2 hours with several stops. Excellent value. Well done JORDI!

Fantastic food, fun and familia.

Miguel was our fantastic guide on this tour. He immediately made our group feel completely comfortable and gave us the freedom to simply be ourselves and enjoy the experience. Which we 100% did! We loved walking through the marketplace, absorbing the sights and scents of the fresh food offerings. Walking through the ancient neighborhoods to find the most perfect of establishments, that brought intimacy with one another and the tastiest of authentic food & culture. We literally felt like we were sitting around a family table for a leisurely meal at our last stop, thanks to Miguel and our fellow tourists. It was intimate and lively. So very well done. Such an absolute blast, we highly recommend this adventure!

Entertaining and delicious!

Our family of 4, including 13 yr old twins, thoroughly enjoyed our food tour with Brendan. He was engaging, entertaining and very knowledgeable about Barcelona and the local food. He even got our twins to try tripe! We tried cheeses, meats, pastries, tapas followed by a local lunch — all were delicious! It was a very enjoyable 4 hours and a wonderful way to get to know the gothic part of the city.

Jordi is the real deal - what a lovely tour!

Jordi is the real deal! Fun and knowledgeable, he has spent his whole life in the areas he showed us. And his love of his home is obvious. Plenty of historical and cultural information along with lots of enthusiasm about the food and drink of Barcelona. It was great to learn of all the cultural, linguistic and culinary influences that have shaped the Barcelona of today…. And of course the food stops were excellent! We had a glimpse of the secret life of Barcelona for sure. Thanks Jordi!

It was all amazing. Miguel did such a great job at choosing the right foods for us to taste. He had great stories for us. We learned so much. And the others in the tour were so easy to talk to. Amazing time. Definitely recommend.

Thumbs up to Secret Food Tours!

This was our first food tour in Europe. I have to say that this was more than a food tour, he shared things about the culture of Barcelona. We walked some of the first streets of the city and learned how they aquired their names. We explored a few spots, among them a food market which was beautiful. There we learned about certain foods and processes that they go through to become the desired foods that they are. We learned about some background about tapas and what the good tapas spots should be like. The tour ended with delicious seafood. It should go without saying that this food tour was catered to the group, we chose what we would eat by sharing how adventurous of an eater each person was/is. Above all, great tour with good explanations and it felt fluent. Miguel Martin did a great job bringing our group together and making it feel like a welcoming tour.

Jordi - Great Food Tour

Jordi gave a great tour. He is named after the patron saint of Barcelona, how can you go wrong. He mixed in the cultural history of Barcelona over the past 2000+ years to describe how this influenced the wide variety of food Barcelona has to offer. All the food was delicious and filling. During the walk, Jordi also pointed out historical sights of interest.

Pleasant surprise!

This was a lovely experience. It was not what I expected and I enjoyed it more! Jordy was delightful and shared the history of the area as well as finding us the best little dishes from local shops. We will definitely do this in other cities we visit. I hope the guides are as knowledgeable and hospitable as Jordy.

From Sangria to Tapas and Paella...

Ricardo was amazing! We always love seeing the authenticity and character of a city from the locals and he did NOT disappoint. He taught us about the complex history of Catalonia and interwove the various dishes Barcelona is famous for (and some new ones we'd never heard of). Muriel was a fantastic guide! She skillfully led us through the streets of Barcelona while offering quality historic anecdotes and being mindful of keeping our group out of busy walkways. All of the food and beverage items we sampled were excellent, and the pacing of the tour was perfectly balanced alternating between eating, walking, and sitting.

Terrific introduction to the city

The tour exceeded my expectations, and I’d highly recommend it. Go esrly in your time in Barcelona, as it’s a good introduction not just to some local foods and eating culture, but also a couple of key neighborhoods (the Born and Barceloneta). Our guide, Muriel, was terrific. She is a Barcelona native who’d lived several years in England and spoke exceptional English (the tour was in English). She told us a lot of valuable history along the way, so the tour was not just about food. You could tell that she really loves Barcelona. The pace is very relaxed so while there is some walking, there is plenty of time between stops and it is not strenuous at all. Two of our family members do not drink alcohol and that wasn’t a big deal at all. They felt that they got their money’s worth and really enjoyed it too. Highly recommended!

During our recent trip to Italy, France and Spain, my husband and I had the opportunity to take food tours in a number of different cities. Our Secret Food Tour in Barcelona with Jordi was definitely one of the best tours we experienced! Jordi took us to so many great places and treated us to amazing food, all while explaining Barcelona's history and culture. He took time to show us all of the different parts of the city on a map and discussed the unique characteristics of each neighborhood. He also gave us recommendations which was really appreciated. He was an outstanding guide and really enhanced our stay in Barcelona!

This tour was fantastic, and one of the main reasons was our guide Jordi. He really made the tour an enjoyable experience and was a fountain of knowledge about the city. The food stops were fabulous and the tour was well timed- we weren't rushed, but Jordi ensured it kept moving so that we got to visit all of the places within the time provided. Lots of terrific food!

Muriel did a terrific tour of Barcelona for us. We did the English tour and she was very easy to understand. A bit of culture and history and a lot of delicious food. It was our first Secret Food Tour, but we're excited to try others. For us, the extra drinks package wasn't worth it, as a few drinks were included in the basic tour. Highly recommend!
