We spent our last afternoon in Greece on Julia & Douk’s food tour and we are SO happy we did! It was a fantastic and unique experience! We learned about and tasted olives, honey, pastries, tea, appetizers, tzatziki, feta and other cheeses, all followed by a delicious lunch in a traditional restaurant! We so appreciated being taken to shops and neighborhoods we wouldn’t have known to visit otherwise. Julia was an amazing guide, sharing lots of interesting information about her childhood neighborhood and Douk made every preparation to welcome us at each place we visited! Thank you both for making our visit to Athens so special!!! We highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to venture off the beaten path!

Perfect way to spend an afternoon in Athens.

Do not hesitate to book a tour with Delicious Athens and Doak. We've done several international food tours, and this one was the absolute best. He exceeded our expectations!! Come hungry!! Doak took us to so many unique local family-owned establishments. We visited and tasted spices, local honey, freshly made real Greek yogurt, Olives and fruit from the market, baked goods, Olive oil, WINE, and more. We finished the afternoon with lunch and his tableside Taziki sauce. We were stuffed and didn't need to eat dinner. This was how we spent our 1st day in Athens (after a red eye). Doak kept our group moving and entertained. Doak is from the area and filled us with history and local food. Worth every penny spent! From your Nashville Friends!

Highlight of our Athens Trip!

The best food tour we have EVER been on! Not only was the food amazing but it was a mix of private and public spaces and it felt like you were in someone’s home. The guides were warm friendly and full of information and personal touches. Thank you for being the highlight of our vacation!

So much fun, so much food

This was an amazing culinary tour of Athens. Douk was a wonderful guide- fun, professional, and informative. The tour takes place in a vibrant and lively neighborhood with historic buildings and shops that have been owned by generations of the same family. We started with Greek coffee and delicious breakfast pastries, we toured spice shops and had tea and dried fruit, we sampled a variety of local honey. We walked through the fruit/vegetable markets, and toured the very impressive seafood and meat markets. We sat in a lovely shaded square and had “the perfect bite” of a Greek burger and a glass of wine. We ended the tour with tzatziki and crostini appetizer made by Douk, a cheese platter, a delicious lunch, dessert and an aperitif! This was a wonderful way to spend 3-4 hours and sample some unique and delicious Greek foods. Don’t eat a big breakfast-you will have plenty of food!

Great introduction into Greek food

Lots of fun along with plenty of history. We learned about traditional Greek food and sampled several different examples. This was a really fun experience and I recommend this to to everyone.

Amazing Greek food and culture experience

This food tour was amazing- so many good food stops to not only try amazing Greek food but to learn as well. Many of the stops were family owned businesses and the owners were there to share about their shops. Also a great way to see more of the city. Highly recommend!

A day in Athens

Douk clearly loves his hometown and wants to share a unique experience with guests. Easy to find in the centre of the town. We learned about the different traditional treats of Greece,like honey,olives and local cheese, spent some time learning about herbs and spices and had some really fantastic food tastings. Would recommend it to anyone who wants an authentic taste of Athens.

I'm so glad this tour was the first thing I did when I arrived in Greece. It was lovely to feel welcomed and hear so much about Greek cuisine and obviously tasting and smelling all the things was super fun. A lot of food!

Douk was a wonderful guide. He took us to local shops and restaurants we otherwise would not have found. The local establishments were not “touristy”. We really enjoyed talking to shop owners. The food was amazing and Douk was able to accommodate dietary restrictions. It was a wonderful day. The value of this tour is exceptional. We ended the day with a full lunch with a view of the Acropolis. Highly recommend this tour.

Food, facts, and fun tour of downtown Athens by a lifelong resident!

This is a fantastic tour of Athens that included personal stories, unique treats, and insider tips from a lifelong resident of the city. We made several stops to taste traditional snacks (with a twist), try beverages, and we finished with a typical meal (so much food!) as typically prepared by an Athenian. Throughout the tour, Julia shared her experience growing up in the city and added context and historical facts to completely submerge you in the experience. It was a perfect way to meet Athens!!

A wholesome experience

Had a wonderful tour with Julia as the guide. This tour is your choise if you want to get a taste of something a little different and truly authentic. Everything felt amazingly well organized and thought out from the stops and route to the choises of food and drink you get to try. At the same time you learn so much about the food and the places as well as Athens and the way of life in Greece. 10/10 would recommend!

An enjoyable afternoon of good food and company

Our guides, Julia and George, were very knowledgeable about the local cuisine and history of the neighborhood. They really emphasized local, everyday greek dishes, not just the popular ones. They were very entertaining and personable, and told us many funny stories. They try to keep the group very small and intimate which enhances the experience. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Would recommend.

Not to be missed in Athens

Food tours are not usually my thing, but a friend recommended this tour and we did it yesterday morning and loved it. Julia’s knowledge and love of this area of Athens she grew up in is unmatched. Julia’s grandfather was a butcher in the market and she told stories of riding around the market on her bike after school. She also knew all the shopkeepers we visited and had an excellent warm relationship with them. We sampled all of their produce and finished the tour with a wonderful lunch looking up at the Acropolis. So don’t eat anything before the tour as the samples and lunch were generous to say the least. This experience is really not to be missed in Athens. Thank you Julia for sharing your memories and knowledge 🙏

Educational, fun and filling!

This tour was an absolutely delightful experience, full of surprises, and it was lovely to hear about Douk’s personal connections to the neighbourhood. Douk was genuine, enthusiastic, engaged, knowledgeable, generous, and clearly loved in the neighbourhood. We had the best morning!

A gem of a tour

Even though we did this tour in January and accidentally forgot to review it until now, I can still remember so clearly how informative and friendly Douk was! There is plenty to eat throughout the tour (and even more to learn at each stop) that we were satisfied all day, and everything was of such amazing quality that we even returned to those places throughout our trip to eat again. Truly a delight to listen to both Douk and shop owners talking about foods and spices and well worth every single penny!

Great local food tour, Athens

I’m very particular choosing tours. Delicious Athens was fantastic. A great mix of locations to explore, learn local history, great variety of tastings expertly guided by Douk. Douk who was relaxed, knowledgeable, familiar with the neighbourhood, engaging and personable striking a perfect balance of allowing purchases but moving on appropriately. I’m vegetarian and was well considered equally throughout the tour as were meat eaters. I would and have already recommended the tour genuinely to others.

Great food introduction

Doyle was a great guide. Very accommodating with dietary restrictions. The tour was far better than expected. Visiting shops from herbs and spices, to traditional lunch, and liquor. It was the perfect day.

The Very Best of the Greek Culinary Culture!

Julia and her husband, George, took us on an amazing tour of their city, introducing us to the sights, smells, and tastes of Athens. Not only was it delectable, it was educational! We learned so many nuances along the path that they took us on. Having grown up here, Julia has an in depth knowledge of her city and she leaves you with a richness that makes you want to return. While George forges ahead to prepare for the next stops along the path, Julia fills in so many details along the way. From hand-crafted pies to third generation artfully crafted spices and honey, the fish market, the meat market in which Julia’s father once had a booth, to carefully selected restaurants with historical significance in which you experience the culinary heritage for which the Greek’s are known. A great cook herself having learned from her grandmother, Julia has a vast knowledge of the seasonality of the Greek foods (varying foods for the seasons) and shares her knowledge and family tradition throughout the tour. She even takes you by her childhood home that is now a boutique hotel and shares stories of growing up there. You leave with visions of her living there as a young girl with her multi-generational family that taught her so much about the importance of bringing the family together through food. They were the optimal host and hostess providing the very best of the Greek culinary culture!! Thank you Julia and George!!

IF THERE WAS A FOOD TOUR TO DO, DO THIS ONE!!

If there is any food tour to do, do this one! It showed different and local spots. The food is super good! After the tour we went back to three spots that they showed us to buy some tea, spices and honey to take home. Without this tour I don’t think we would’ve went to either of those spots. The guides were very knowledgeable. 10/10 would definitely recommend and would do it again!

Marvelous Food Tour in Athens Central Market

Delicious Athens was an outstanding tour!! Not only did we visit the food market & specialty shops where honey, herbs, & other items are sold, we sampled them as well. We learned about the history of the shops & the market, and were delighted with the sights, smells and sounds of local Greek culture. If you are into non standard turist tours, this is the right one for you. I recommend you do not eat before the tour as you will have the opportunity to do so during the tour around the places know to the locals. Wonderful tour - must try

What a wonderful experience ! Have done foodie tours all over the world and this was up there with the best. We were a group of 4 friends and Lucky enough to have the charming Duke all to ourselves. He regale us with foodie and culture stories of Athens, whilst sauntering around the beautiful streets. All the food we tried was on point, traditional and delicious. It was great not to be trying the “usual“ Greek foods but lots of different things. Finished up in a gorgeous restaurant with amazing views of the acropolis. Fortunately, we were given little boxes to take our leftovers home because there was quite a bit – we were absolutely stuffed! Cannot recommend highly enough… Five stars ! Thank your 🤩 Footnote: the beautiful man making the pastries was an added bonus

Foodie Heaven

This food tour was absolutely phenomenal! Portion sizes were perfect, make sure you come on an empty stomach. Everything was unique and we learned so much about the origins of the foods we were eating! There was zero obligation but I couldn’t resist picking up spices and other treats from some of the shops. Will absolutely book again next time I’m in Athens. Thank you so much for the hospitality and personable experience.

Delightful and Delicious Athens

We had a wonderful tour with Julia, whose passion and pride for the local food is clear from the start. We had a handful of stops including coffee, bakery, butcher, grocer and market, sampling some of the local produce before a stroll through the fish and meat market. Each stop Julia would share her knowledge not just about the food but about the local area as well as recommendations for great places to eat. We had a delicious lunch, that showed off a selection of Greek dishes which filled our stomachs for the rest of our day. I will not hesitate to book another tour with Delicious Athens on our next visit.

Excellent tour with a local guide

Julia was wonderful host for our food tour! She showed us places that we would have never found ourselves, all while being an gregarious and knowledgeable guide. The lunch that we had with her was our favorite of the trip and we left feeling so full and satisfied. She was even able to very kindly accommodate me, a vegetarian, though this tour will suit the meat-eaters very well also. I recommend this experience to anyone visiting Athens!

Had a wonderful time. Julia is delightful and loved her stories and love of the city. It felt like walking around town with your grandmother. George and her have the sweetest relationship and we were honored to be a part of this. What a special treat!!

What a wonderful experience. Julia clearly loves to share her love of Greek food and Athens. Everything was so well planned ( like making sure that at each place we stopped, a table was waiting and the food magically appeared. The various restaurants, food markets or local shops were ready to welcome us and personally give us a tour! This is a tour I’ve already recommended to friends!!

WOW!

This tour with Julia and her family was exceptional in all aspects - organisation, local knowledge, food tastings, sightseeing and the personal touch. Julia was able to accommodate our schedule and conduct our tour during one of the busiest times of the season. We visited many local markets and tasted their delicacies (so many different olive varieties!) before indulging in a light snack at a small square. Then it was off to lunch with a view of the Acropolis in a private dining room in the Plaka district where the eggplant dip danced on my tastebuds. We couldn't finish all of the offerings and Julia's husband kindly provided take-away containers so we could enjoy this later at our leisure. The highlight for us was the bougatsa pastry - it was heavenly - I'll have to go back to Athens just for some more!

Full bellies and tasty memories

I discovered a few travels ago, that food tours were the best way to learn about a place, it’s culture and more importantly, where to eat. Julia delivered on all 3. She was passionate about her city and it’s food scene. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and came away with full bellies and a desire to explore Athens. To me this was incredible as I was initially put off by Athens. I found it too crowded and touristy. Thanks to Julia and her partner George, I saw another side of this gritty city. A city I will happily return to. And when I do, I will book another tour with Julia!!

Local Food Scene in Athens!

Douk was a fantastic guide to help us explore the food, culture and culinary scene in Athens. He focused on helping us understand and taste the “local” food scene - taking us to shops and markets and restaurants that he, his family and locals would attend (versus the tourist areas and food). Including Turkish coffee, feta cheese, bread with cheese inside (Bratagne ?) spice market, meat market, vegetable, and olive market, and the old market in Athens (fish, meat, etc) We had a meals at two establishment that serves to the neighborhood. He was full of advice for our future visit to Athens. We had a great morning and look forward to the next time we return to Athens.

This tour was a ton of fun. All of the food we tried was delicious. I don’t eat meat and Julia was more than accommodating to that. She made sure I still had something to try at every stop.
