Athens Combo: Hop-on Hop-off Bus & Cape Sounion Sunset Tour

Not a happy memory

The weather was a negative factor: clouds, rainy, cold, windy. No sun at all. Restaurant service was abysmal. Twenty minutes before a waiter finally came to table. Average food. Below average service. Great staff person at meeting point. Driver was excellent, including narration en route. Wish I had not booked in advance.

Must go for the panoramic views and Temple of Poseidon!

The views are amazing. Panoramic views from the most Southern tip of mainland Greece. Just in awe of the Temple of Poseidon. Brilliant day out, would highly recommend! The recorded commentary and tour guide commentary are very informative!

Not worth the time or money

The hop on hop off bus was fine, but the audio guide was the least informative I have ever experienced. The sunset "tour" was a bus ride with a prerecorded audio guide of the things along the way. Absolutely nothing interesting. Nothing about the temple of Poisidon. The "guide" said barely anything at all. They drop you off at about 6:30, and will get you again a bit after 8. The place it's self could be a half an hour stop, not that much to see. It's lovely, but could not justify spending so much time there. Very windy and cold, and the sunset is just a sunset. Every one was very underwhelmed. Would especially not recommend for kids. Very rocky and nothing to do but wait for nearly 2 hrs.

Pure disaster….

Arrived 30mins early, were missed and forced to take a cab to the next stop. How could it happen??? The way the company handling this is blaming their own customer and said other people on the bus didn’t complain. Good job!

Sights of Athens is to be trusted, good service and prices

Excellent tour company, we were delighted with the service from the super friendly Anastasia. We used the HOHO bus service over 2 days...service was very prompt on timings and the buses have drivers who speak good English. The routes span three lines so it can get confusing and the literature could be clearer and better designed. Sounion trip was excellent value for 35 euros per head. It takes 90 mins one-way to reach via lovely coastal/beach scenery and you get 90 mins at the Poseidon temple to see the sunset and use the cafe if desired. Views are stunning. Service was prompt and the tour leader was scrupulous about ensuring all 40 of us got back on the (modern) coach.

Great trip, misleading advertising

The trip was great. The combo advertising is misleading and not correct. The combo is not priced 35€, this is the price of the trip to Capo Sounion only. The trip is not on a double decker bus as you might imagine from the picture. It was on a very comfortable mini van with a kind driver. It worth absolutely but it should be advertised more clearly.

Perfect way to travel to Cape Sounion for a gorgeous sunset.

The trip was exactly what I wanted. Sights of Athens got me to Cape Sounion with time to see the site and be in position for a phenomenal sunset. It was all very affordable and I also enjoyed the guide's history lesson on the way to and from.

This is actually a great way to get around Athens for the first time. It allows you the opportunity to see the sites.

It would have been 5 but we were mislead on our second day and ended up taking the same route, rather than heading to the beaches! Drat!

Good service with a personal twist !

Very good service , useful , good frequency and relevant stops. For us it was much more than that. Vasili, who sold the tickets , become a kind of "guardian angel", he was always available to guide us, recommending spots along the way . So we very happy about the service. Thanks !

Temple of Poseidon sunset tour

Charalampos Our guide for tour to Sounio and temple of Poseidon was very helpful, entertaining and history enthusiast. Highly recommend him.

Make sure you know what tour co you're with

Got passed around from one hop on/off company to another. Finally got the right company. Wasted 75% of our tour time. The bus ride to the temple was ok.

Disappointing

We cannot review the actual experience because the bus driver never gave us a chance. He was to pick us at the old parliament building he parked further down the street we tried to get to him but he only stopped for about 30 second and then took off. When we called he said he would wait further down the the street it was just a 4 minute walk. Maybe for some people but not for 2 over 70 women in 100 degree weather. We saw him again ahead of us but he took off again. We called again. He said to get a cab and meet at another location he would wait 3 minutes. With traffic and road construction we were unable lot find a cab in time so we just gave up. Maybe the experience is as good as sold but we will never know

A long drive but a fabulous sunset at the end. The restaurant at the site ( which is the only place to eat there) is so-so

Don’t miss it!

Great guide, beautiful ride. The sunset at Cape Sounion is not to be missed. Plus, it was really nice to take a ride along that part of the coast from Athens south to the southern most tip of Attica. Plenty of time to have dinner or a drink before the sunset. Turns out we really didn’t use the extra two days of hop on hop off, so we would not have needed the combo tour (though it was a great deal.) Our guide, Charis, was exceptionally knowledgeable and actually excited to share lots and lots of information about Greek history with us on the ride. This was not part of the formal tour nor expected. But it sure was interesting!

This is a relaxing tour with a great tour guide and comfortable bus

Hoo on Hop off bus access was easy. Staff always helpful with support and suggestions. The Sunset Cape Sounion Tour was brilliant. It was an opportunity to experience the beautiful coastline of Athens plus seeing the Temple of Poseidon before sunset and at sunset

Cape Sounion lovely experience but city hop-on- hop-off not worth the time and money.

We enjoyed the Cape Sounion Sunset Tour. It was very well organised and we received regular communication through WattsApp from our tour guides. There is a lovely restaurant where we had a great meal. Entrance to the temple was not included in the price though - €10 per person but worth it. The general city hop-on-hop-off was very boring and not worth the money.

Bargain price for the two!

Fantastic tour and the best guide to explain history and instructions. Comfy bus. Fantastic opportunity to watch the sunset and chill out with a drink at the restaurant at the Temple area. Highly recommend this. We used the buses - yellow and blue- over 2 days with the ticket and they took us to the places we wanted to see. Easy to collect at the Square.

Tour guide Charalambos made the trip very exciting with his historical knowledge, in this trip you get more than you have paid for

Private van tour

We got a private tour with the Hop On Hop Off company because the group one was nearly sold out. The young lady working for them took the initiative to contact a driver for us at the last minute. We had 7 people in our party so they sent a 7 passenger van and English speaking driver. He was wonderful. It was only 5 Euros more per person and ir was worth it. The company was wonderful.

Beautiful sunsets. Be prepared to have dinner there at the small cafe or bring some snacks. You hang out for two hours to wait for sunset. You also need to buy a ticket for the entrance fee. The guide was really good.

Beautiful Sunset

The bus trip out to Cape Sounion was beautiful. Charalampos was an excellent guide. He had a great sense of humor and engaged the tourists by quizzing them and playing games. The hop on hop off bus was an added benefit. I enjoy these kinds of tours because you can learn about the city and get off any time and get back on after a meal break or shopping.

Great way to get around the city!

Great service to get around the city. Stops near all the tourist highlights and walkable to tons of shops, restaurants, etc.

Great value - 2 day pass was perfect , made it easy to get around Athens and see key sites . Sounion trip very well organised , excellent guide - overall fabulous

Enjoyed the Sunio tour. Do not recommend the hop on hop portion.

The Sunio tour was very beautiful. The coach bus was comfortable and air conditioned and the views spectacular. The pickup time and location was communicated to us very well. Our guide Charis was very knowledgeable and helpful. By the time he got to the back of the bus with headsets he didn't have enough for everyone so we had to share them. It was harder to hear him speaking with only one headphone. It would be better if there were enough headphones for everyone on the bus. The price included a hop on hop off ticket for the day. I do not recommend this experience as a way to see the city. It was very hot on top with a small covered portion that had didn't have any breeze due to the windows. The downstairs did not have AC. It was very hot and due to the traffic congestion in Athens the bus was stationary more than it was moving. It was very crowded on the bus and we had to ask for the headphones to hear the tour explained as they weren't handed out or visible when you entered the bus. Most of the audio stations were not working and the audio explanation was not in synchronized with the sights. . The driver was very rude to a lady who couldn't find any headphones. We lasted 4 stops then got off. I recommend the Sunio sunset tour portion only.

Great time in Athens thanks to Sights of Athens.

Great support and help. Well organized tour with good hints how to manage schedule to make the most out of it. Sights of Athens delivers with their tours and services all around and been a pillar of our Athens trip which made it most enjoyable. We booked several tours but no tour was pushed on to us. Sales personal is advising and helping to make your time in Athens memorable.

Viator platform is ripping off its customers. Blue LIne bus tour excellent

We were overcharged 10 Euro each for the trip. I wrote to your organisation and have received no explanation, Sounion itself, the bus driver and the Tour Leader were excellent. But Viator as a platform is overcharging without declaring what this 28% charge is for.

PERFECT

We met them by chance together with my girlfriend. We did the sounion cape, but they have many packages. Well trained, nice and very friendly staff. I highly recommend them

Careful when you choose to stop

Unless on early you won't get a seat be prepared to stand downstairs not ideal. Also the stavros stop and pickup are at 2 different places which isn't clear on their map. You have to ask for headphones to hear the tour and you will only be able to plug in if you have a seat. All bus companies do the same trip so the choice is yours

Lousy

The your to Soinion was great. However, hop on hop off part was not so. The maps and timetables were misleading, the stuff could not clearly explain the routs and transfers. The electronic guide was a minute late and did not make any sense.

Excellent

Very comprehensive and value for money. They’re staff and drivers very courteous. Special mention of one particular staff Vasilis at the Acropolis/Acropolis museum stop, who was very friendly and went out of his way to explain in detail to every single person who approached him. Most commendable indeed.

6/5 if possible ♥️♥️ The experience was amazingly unique. It ignited my curiosity that i wanted to get down at each stop and explore each place inch by inch. The guides and the drivers were extremely helpful and friendly; I enjoyed talking to them very much. The buses were warm on the first floor and the second floor was open-air , I switched frequently between the two during the three-hour tour. I loved every second of the experience and am planning to repeat it soon if possible. The tour to the Temple of Poseidon was one of kind experience , and believe my when i say that i could have stayed up there all day long because the view was simply breathtaking. And even along the way we visited a lot of other sites. I am quite thankful to my guide for talking me into taking this extra tour 😍. I learned tons of new things about the history of athens and how it came to be the way it is today 🤗😊. Thank u guys for the magnificent experience.

Poseidon Temple experience

Incredible experience in the Temple of Poseidon. Not only knowing the archaeological site, but also the atmosphere at the temple by the sea.

Perfect in every sense

This experience was really fascinating. The season, the weather conditions all were perfect for such a visit considering the less crowd which made the visit even more comfortable. I can also say that our guide was so very well educated and informed, spoke very well English and described every detail with patience and he was quite nice to the visitors. I would actually want know his name if it's possible because I'd really want to thank him personally.

Terrible Tour

The only thing we liked about this tour was the actual temple of Poseidon itself. The tour wasn't really a tour. We were given a headset to listen to that spouted off random facts about modern Athens as we drove by. We would have loved to learn about the history of the city or Ancient Greece, instead we learned about modern tourist destinations. We were expecting to actually get a tour of the temple once we arrived there but instead our tour guide let us off the bus and told us we had 90 min to explore and be back by then. We received no history of the site and we still had to buy entrance into the site. It was extremely disappointing. I would never do this tour again, waste of money.

Great

The busses were very clean and well organized. Agents at the stops were very helpful and courteous. The trip to Sunion was fascinating with the coastal road and all the towns and beaches.

Absolutely worth taking it

Frequency of the buses, polite, helpful drivers, recorded narration was very helpful. Cape Sounion sunset tour was great, gave us much more to see on the way there, put much better perspective on the surroundings of Athens

Wonderful!

Everything was wonderful. Our driver was so friendly and pleasant and gave us a chance to stop at a scenic place to take photos. The ride was so smooth! The only disappointing experience (which was not so bad) was the sunset that I've been looking forward to--hence, this tour was called the Sunset Tour. I didn't see the sun.

Not the best sunset ever

Very unorganized, after two hours arrived at location two hours early. Was not informed that the park fee was not included. Not the best sunset ever, Beach House Restaurant in Kauai is much better.

Bad service

Not enough buses, long waits for the next bus. Hot and uncomfortable. In my seat the plug in earphones didn’t work. The staff at the acropolis didn’t seem to know what they were doing. We were told different times for a bus to get us back to the cruise port. In future we will use the big red buses which we usually do.

Beautiful sunset.

A beautiful sunset with the temple as an ideal 'prop'. Our guide, a young lady, was very cheery and efficient. The only drawback is the time it takes - 1.5 hours there and 2.25 hrs back (it was a Sunday and the traffic was horrendous, the driver had my sympathy) . However it was a very good experience and I would recommend it.

Excellent

It was a great experience, such a beautiful setting. My only complaint would be the van held 20 people. We had 19 people. We were the 3rd stop to be picked up, my daughter and I are not very tall, but we're squished into the last row. Then for the return, everyone took their same seats so back row. I would suggest only booking for 16 people max.

Worth the trip

The trip out to Cape Sounion was well worth it , it was well organised and i was messaged on day of the trip about what pick up point i wanted picked up from , the mini bus driver was cheery and you got head phones with information about all the sights you were passing on the way The hop on bus was easy to use and it was handy being able to get on varies coloured buses as it ment there was less waiting time , but they ran approx every 5 mins anyway

Best way to explore the sights of Athens

The buses have been really comfortable. Nice and very friendly staff and bus drivers. Price really good and affordable and good value. A lot of central stops to reach all sights. The tour to Sounion really nice the scenic drive to go there imazing. A lot of time to enjoy the sunset and take pictures.

Today we went to Cape Sounion with this tour. In the morning a very kind lady told is everything about the tickets etcetera. At 16h a private bus brought us to Cape Sounion. The driver was a really nice and friendly man, who enjoyed in his earlier years the discotheque “Boom Boom” which now doesn’t excist anymore. The name of the driver was Georgos (or George). He told us about the nice spots in Athens and drived carefully. Now we have also 2 days with our ticket to use the hop-on hop-off bus. Tomorrow we will go to Akropolis :-)

TERRIBLE

REALLY DONT TRUST! It is the terrible experience that I already have as tourist. I just took this bus because I would like to go to the lake with some trustworthy transportation. And I just got the ticket. The bus was so old and fast all the system to listen the audio guide was broken. And for last, I was waiting 2 Hours from the bus on the strong sun without shadow. Please take other Company or Even the public transport, I’m sure it will better than this one!
